According to my passport the change putting a huge visa (10/25 USD) into it came in 2003.
Before it was free even for 60 days.

The change started officially on 26 january 2010. From that day no more VOA's valid for a week. Instead, a 30-day visa and as a bonus, it is extendable for another 30 days without having to leave the country.

The 6th floor, sometimes indicated by 5+1 is a bar/bordello on the 6th floor of Hotel Melawai I. The name of the bar is Maribaya. Girls/masseuses (?) hang out in the bar and you can book them for a massage which comes with/turns out to be a complete sex-session.

Thatīs why I have a multiple entry visa for Indonesia.
The old days it was easy to get but now I need an official letter from the Immigration office in Jakarta. The multiple entry Visa is valid for one year. I donīt know the cost right now (company pays).
I just saw that the price is 450 for Melawai I and i know that I have to pay at Travel only 300. Is Melawai much better then Travel or has Travel also increased the price?

Yes, indeed. That is what I wrote and it's the true. Read the Frankfurt Thread if you don't believe me. The rate in Frankfurt is 25 Euro, but in some houses are less and in some more. The range is 20 - 30 Euro. You can even have anal for 40-50 Euro. Of course not all girls provide. Girls from Turkey are often open this. Koeln is more expensive, because less competition I think. In Frankfurt there are about 12 - 15 houses like Pascha. But, also alot of FKK-Clubs. They are more expensive, there you pay 50 Euro entrance for the Club, incl. Yeah, they don't bother about security either.
Recently I had enough time left after a local flight, so I checked in for my flight back to Europe (Garuda allows this a long time before the flight) and went with my carry on bags to Blok M. Nobody batted an eyelid when I took my bags to the 6th floor. And indeed, in the elevator an Indonesian took a look atme and said "Lantai 6?". It is obvious.

I'm sad for you DG69 but maybe it's no bad thing to have fewer "hunters" in Jakarta. The girls are much more astute and much quicker to spot someone less familiar - even if you don't seem to do anything stupid. Speaking the local language helps too. I'm shocked when you say there are girls in Top Gun asking for 1 million as that is far too much for that kind of location. You will always be approached if you're in that kind of place and a foreigner - let alone a (relatively young) bule. As a 46yo Asian, I tend to find that I have more work to do - but I would still never accept such prices especially at such a venue!
Incidentally, you don't have to be a local resident to hunt normal girls. I'm only ever there for 3 or 4 nights at a time, and it's still sufficient provided you do some homework first. The girls are very good at spotting guys who are just that little bit less familiar and take full advantage. It's that and the occasional guy who really doesn't know his way around and falls sucker to the prices quoted. Red Square is very much as you say it is. Don't worry about me, Master Diver, I didn't felt sad or disappointed. I were in a special situation. I have a long holiday and I were in Thailand in for 4 weeks, but have to leave for a visa run. I choosed Jakarta, this time, in a similar situation I choosed Manila. I wasn't to eager to find somebody and I had of course some opportunities. I also got quoted for 500.000 LT from quite pretty girls. I refused, since I had a all or nothing policy. The top stunner for 600.000 I would have taken, but not a lesser for that amount.

I'm a 46yo Malay Malaysian so I would seriously disagree with you. While there are girls who want bules, there are plenty who don't care about race. I don't know about takeout, since I was not staying nearby and the ladies I picked had no English language skills at all, so I wasn't interested. They had plenty of other skills, however, which I was able to thoroughly evaluate in the on-premises short time rooms.
I'd say that any time between 4 PM and midnight is plenty good. I've no experience with later than that, and I saw a dramatic increase in the numbers available between 2:15 PM and 3:30 PM.

Popper, I have read many of your posts in Thailand, so I know you spend some time there. The quality of dental care in Indonesia does not compare at all with the quality of dental care in Thailand. If you have a tooth problem, get it taken care of before heading south.

Great place I visited a year or 2 ago. Some over developed, some plain and simple. I was a guest for the day but I understand the trip out there will cost about $20 and the beach cabins about $50/night. Most taxi drivers should know the street without any problems.
Dr. Halim completed all of his dental training at universities in the U.S. and has all of the latest equipment. My entire family and I visited him regularly for cleanings, mouth guards and fillings.
Note: there's no sign outside the building, just the number "7" and he doesn't advertise at all, as his schedule is pretty full every day, but he should be able to fit you in with no problem.

I was checking and a search on Agoda/Hotel Club/Asia Rooms will turn up a couple of hotels including Novotel. Novotel looks like the most upscale - I got rates of RM262 (Rps750k) nett with breakfast. There was a very basic accommodation at about RM100 (Rps285k) nett at Papa Lodge or something. Good luck and happy golfing.

Head to Sentul on the way back, I hear there are a few bars there catering to what you want.
Bogor is dead for the most part unless you fancy SWs near the station or chance your arm at a Mall pick up. Harley's Dynamic cafe bills itself as an expat pub there, but not sure of the pick up potential. There is a bar/cafe at the top of Botany Mall too, but its a bit hit and miss.
Your other option is to finish your round early and head for Bandung

yes i confirmed that i don't get blocked with max3/biznet isp but only the telkomsel 3g. i guess they leave it up to each isp to determine what should be blocked.

No doubt there, but my recommendation was based on West Jakarta being largely unkown for the kind of funm the brother is looking for (unless you want to split hairs and say Hayam Wuruk and surounds are West Jkt., which they are, but are still a ways from Slipi). If he were to stay in Menteng/Thamrin area, there would be easier access to the delights of Central/South Jakarta (i.e the blok, Kuningan, Kemang etc.)
I stayed at Ibis Slipi several times and never had any problem taking one or more girls to my room.

I've yet to see anything turn up on my passport or immigration record wrt to hotels I've stayed in short of what I fill out in the immigration form. Even then I have ended up staying at a different hotel from the one I wrote in the immigration card due to non-availability - but nothing has ever been mentioned regarding this. Has anyone had any different experience to this?

I had a friend fly to bali and she got there fine yesterday . The ash cloud at about 20,000 feet is not affecting Jakarta but is just south of the city and this may change .

Mount Merapi is due north of Jogja, making it ESE (east-south-east) of Jakarta. NE of Jakarta puts you in right in the middle of the Java Sea.
Start the day early, ask HM to send to LRT station to go to Sentral, then board yellow bus to LCCT about 7. 40am, after straight to LCCT. Verified web boarding pass which took almost half an hour due to limited counter was open. Then straight to the gate. About 10 minutes later boarding call was made and I'm lining in the que waiting for the gate to be open, luckily manage to get a hot seat, so manage to squeeze my self among the 1st few passengers to board the flight.
Arrive in Jakarta around 10. 50pm local time and straight to the immi counter, passed all the docs after about 1 mins or so checking my passport, he suddenly asked for return tickets. Just remembered, forgot to print, then said to the officer " maaf ya mas, lupa utk print dr komputer". He nodded and reminded me to print for next trip. Fhewww, what a close call. Then went thru the customs smoothly and straight to Taxi counter to Mercure Hayam Wuruk.
Upon arriving in Mercure, true enough that my room was not ready due to some conference held. Told the counter to check in later and left my luggage at the concierge.

It would turn out that the girl would ask 800 or 1 juta in CJ's and not go for less than 600. But when she is in TG she will ask 800 initially, then go for 350. If what JAD says is true, that the bar itself is getting into the business and taking a cut with minimum (but high prices like 1 juta), its all the more reason for gents to stay out of the place for mongering purposes. Go if you like the joint, the atmosphere, the ladies. But taking girls out of there is overpaying, and will eventually drive prices up elsewhere.
Its similar to taking the overpriced girls in Manila from the EDSA complex (or on Burgos) for p3000 barfine + p3000 for the girl's tip, when you can find a girl LT for p1500 total in other joints nearby. Market economy. The local WalMart sells a hammer for $8. The big-name hardware chain store nearby sells the (exact) same hammer for $20. There are many reasons why WalMart sells it for less, and the hardware store sells it for more. Location. Quantity sold. Customer base. Store expenses. And so on. The hardware store is making a profit selling fewer hammers, so is WalMart selling more hammers. If they were not, they would cease selling it.
There are many factors that go into the customer's choice in purchasing. Maybe the Walmart is close to his home. Maybe he likes the customer service at the hardware store. And so on. However, I would argue that Walmart would lower its prices if the hardware store lowered its prices. If the hardware store suddenly lowered its hammer price to, say, $10, more Walmart customers would waltz to the hardware store. Or there would be a glut of low-priced hammers on the market, forcing Walmart to lower its prices, say, to $7 (or such). Each time a $20 hammer sells in the hardware store (regardless the reason the customer went there to purchase), it keeps the Walmart price inflated.
The same holds true with cewek. If the gents stopped grabbing girls from CJ's (the reason is unimportant), the CJ's gals would flood elsewhere, malls, the Block, etc. The extra girls in those places increases competition, driving the price down in TG. Each time a gent takes a high-priced gal from CJ's (regardless the reason, like the hammer in the hardware store), he is keeping the TG (or other) price inflated. Had a business trip to Jakarta and my first ever trip to Indonesia. I started with reading the forum well before my trip.
I was staying at Le Meridien so I decided to checked out the resident bar, Tiga Puluh but found nothing initially. It was about 8:30pm. I asked the security guy when it would get busy, he told me about 11pm. So I progress to walk to BATS. I could have taken a cab but I wanted to see a small mall, Citywalk in between. It took about 20mins to walk. I was walking along Jln Kyai Haki Mas Mansyur and saw quite a Massage place across the road. I could not be bothered crossing the busy street to check it out, but would not mind confirmation from any members here who has been there.
At BATS there was a cover charge of R110k (about USD15) which included a drink and I thought was OK to pay, until he wanted me to select a drink right away. I didn't know what I wanted to drink nor did I want a drink right away, so I left and took a cab back for about R20k.
Caught up with some work then I decided to head down to Tiga Puluh again, by this time it was 11pm. I was also pretty tired but my curious mongering instinct overcame my exhaustion. I thought if there was nothing I could always head back to BATS.
Initially I was disappointed, until I realised the bar extended beyond the pool table. There was a girl playing pool and she smiled at me and gave me good vibes. Beyond the doors (which I thought had led to the toilet) was actually the bar.
A good band was playing but it was too loud, so I went back up to my room to get some earplugs and returned. On the plus side, the wing where my room was was almost directly above Tiga Puluh and close to the elevator. By then, they are charging the cover and not serving dinner anymore. Honestly, the cover is no big deal because you get a drink with that and the price of a drink is the same price anyway.

Update: My expierence is that at least on Sundays they do not charge you the entrance fee (110K), also a very slow day for the bar.
I will check tomorrw/today again.
And yes they ask frequently if you stay in the hotel (I believe they want to see you keycard).

BTW The Mulia (CJ) ask every day an entrance fee of 110K (and on Sundays they have also lower numbers of customers). Also here they start with asking if you stay in the hotel (than you have free access.

Absolutely - the security guys normally do give hassle because they're looking for cash from the girls. I normally ask them to call my room number if there's any problem and most manage ok. But then again, I normally tip the security guys and doormen at whatever hotel I'm in - and I've been regular in a couple so that they know me by name. So I had no problems in Manhattan, Park Lane, Akmani and Le Meridien, although it may well be necessary to escort the girl in an unfamiliar hotel. That being said, I have had girls insist on being escorted down in Mulia Hotel when I was quite regular there - not the best thing for you if she's leaving 8-10 in the morning; to make it worse (as a Malaysian) that hotel could almost be Kampong Kuala Lumpur at times...

initially i was disappointed, until i realised the bar extended beyond the pool table. there was a girl playing pool and she smiled at me and gave me good vibes. beyond the doors (which i thought had led to the toilet) was actually the bar.

Actually this is standard practice in Jakarta from my experience. Think about it for a second. Security does it for your benefit so you don't get ripped off. Stop complaining, throw some clothes on and walk the young lass past security, it will only take you a couple of minutes. Once she is past security, typically at the elevators but every hotel is different, she is free and clear.Did not realise it was standard practice. If it was I would have done so.

I do maintain an apartment in Jakarta but I do not like to take the ayam back to my building as it can be worse than the walk of shame to the 6th floor Melawai. While I am registered with immigration with my apartments address. If I check into a hotel in jakarta or anywhere in indonesia will this show up on my immigration records. Since the girlfriend handles my immigration documents this could pose a problem. i don't really know about the status of the jakarta city rail. but if i recall something about the jakarta subway. one of my nightlife tour clients, a briton based in hk, architects the infrastructure. dunno the time table but they are working on it.
at the moment, jakarta has a very effective busway system for the city and a light train system connecting the city with bogor, depok, tangerang and bekasi.

At the moment, Jakarta has a very effective Busway system for the city and a light train system connecting the city with Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi.

Hand in passport, forms, folder, photocopied pages. Come back in 4 business days. Get folder back, go to cashier, pay 250k. Take folder back to other window. Come back the next day to pick up passport. Have to now take it to get the new stamp photocopied and give the copy to the desk.
A big pain in the ass. I'm sure there are travel agents that can do this service for a lot less than 750k. Given that I spent about 2 hours at immigration. 3 round trip journeys, and a ton of paperwork, it won't be something that I want to repeat in the near future. o. k, i'm probably going to bore anyone here who spends time in north jakarta, but for the benefit of anyone like me who doesn't know much outside of blok m and the four / five star hotel scene, here goes.
jakarta after dark (jad) offers tours of the nightlife in jakarta. see the classified section here or his website, www.jakartaafterdark.com, for more details.
jad was at my hotel promptly at 7:00 pm yesterday. we headed first to kings cross, in west jakarta (kelapagading). the trip there was memorable, past nice houses, lakes, and colonial looking architecture. i'd never seen this part of jakarta before.
there were several clubs in the area where we stopped. we headed to king's cross. women were available for 300, 000 to 550, 000 rp. for an hour and were reasonably attractive. the facilities were good.
next stop was alexis, north of downtown. this was more upscale, and consisted of a club, massage, and brothel in the same building. the outstanding feature of alexis was the pool and spa. it was really nice and you could head there with your date after making your selection. prices ran from 950, 000 for indonesians to 1. 9 million for foreigners, primarily prc with a few thais. the indonesians in king's cross were actually more attractive on average than the natives i saw in alexis.
the final stop was the most intriguing. marlioboro was like alexis on speed. the strip club within the building was on par with a really good gentlemen's club in the usa the separate bars had nice selections of women of various nationalities, even about 8 colombians. on average, the women were better looking that the other places. and if you go there in late evening from the central business district, it's only about a 15 minute trip, assuming traffic's not bad. there was one bar in the building where indonesians available for 350, 000, and another bar with natives costing 800, 000, and the foreigners costing 1. 5 million or so, i think.
having jad along was great. he's a great conversationalist on whatever subject, indonesian finance or politics or whatever. and he knows how the system works. i have spent some time in past years in north jakarta in today's country and clubs on jalan mangga besar. i couldn't communicate with the girls or the mamasan's, didn't even know you're supposed to ask the mammasan's for line-ups, and sometimes was frustrated with the process. so jad was a big help with that.
the tour was supposed to last for 3 hours but went for 5-1/2, and the reason it ended then is because i've got a lot to do today and couldn't stay out all night. i believe jad treats his other clients with similar consideration.

Charles 49, Hotel Classic would have to be one of the Top 3 places to visit whilst in Jakarta. I actually rate it the best as it has around 250 ceweks, decent clean rooms 8 pool tables, huge bar area and you get 2 ceweks for 400 ribu, otherwise if you aren't feeling greedy 1 for 270 ribu. There are apparently 2 Hotel Classics so ask for the one at Pasar Baru. When you arrive walk up the elevators to the 2nd floor. Don't go to the Bunker which is on the ground floor as it is way more expensive with imports.
Another place to visit is the Travel Hotel on Jl Mangga Besar VIII same sort of set up but no 2 for 400 act but fully recommendable as they have over 200 ceweks. Don't get hassled by the mamasans and get lumbered with a cewek straight away just tell her you want to have a look first but they never listen anyway. HT is 285 ribu for one cewek in ordinary room or 310 for one with executive room. There are six executive rooms which used to be karaoke rooms but are now the most arty farty funkiest rooms you will ever come across. I reckon the guy who designed these rooms was gay and on acid. These rooms are about 3 times as large as a normal room with 100cm tv and complete ensuite. They must have used half a mountain of granite and marble on this hotel. Got to give it to the Chinese as they definately have the best complete entertainment venues.
Another place to hit during the day not night time is Kota Indah which has 4 main bars, MTR, LA, Sari Ayu and one other which I forget right now. I always park my car at Lokasari shopping centre and jump on a ojek to kota indah as its way easier with the traffic jams etc. 10 ribu one way and all of the riders know where it is.

C49, Too expensive but if you need to indulge be prepared to fork out around 2 jta. If you must, you play around till 12 midnight then take one back as it will cost you around 800k after 12. If before 12 your looking at 2 jta. Thats how it is at the HT so I'm just supposing its the same at the HC.
Best way is find out if the girl has her own kost as you get her hp no. And arrange for some freelancing after she knocks off. I also prefer Maribay. The observations before I totally agree with. Perhaps the girls in Hotyel Travel might be younger and a bit more beautiful, but that depend on your personal taste. It comprise of different floors with various categories of entertainment within each segments. If you intend on exploring the "kota" lifestyle, this place would be ideally located. Note that during 4. 30pm. 7pm the streets within this district would be gridlocked to the point of standstill. Another hotel I would recommend is the red-top or ibis hotel.

I stayed twice in the Meridien. Shopped one time for a FL there. Reported a month ago or so. Most of the girls look either old or have had kids etc.
IMHO, if you can spare the time, nothing works better than DIA or other dating sites. Hookers in Indonesia, unlike in the Phils, deliver poor performance and limited enthusiasm. Freebies, even not 100% free, are much more interesting.

Firstly, thank you very much for providing me with so much great information to help me plan my forthcoming trip. Nevertheless, I have some questions. In return for your help, I will post lengthy reports, as I did after my trip to Philippines last year.
1. I really enjoyed LA Cafe when I was in Manila last year. As such, I will certainly visit the bars in Blok M. However, it seems that Kota is the place for mongers to stay, in which case, are there are freelance bars in Kota? How long does it take to get from Blok M to Kota by taxi and what fare should I be expecting to pay?
2. Regarding the bars in Blok M, it seems from the forum that Top Gun is the 'top dog' and the only other ones I seem to read about are D's Place and My Bar. Are there are any other bars? I enjoy 'bar-crawls' and would like to visit as many as possible in the name of research. Also, what time should I arrive? It seems that they are dead any time before 10pm?
3. I know that pricing is a delicate issue as there are so many different factors, like the girl, the time of night etc but it's my understanding that "correct prices for those in the know is 3/400k ST. 6/700k LT", is this right? I'm guessing that since I'm mid-30s, girls may think I'm a beginner and try to charge a vastly inflated price.
