Hi All, just came back from a SEA trip. Also spent 3 nights in Jakarta. Great as usual. Met a girl called Nora in Bats (yes I know this old bad place. 1."High end", the "in" places, where you go to see and be seen. First of all, pop music sucks and bad cover renditions of pop music suck even more. The bands at bats and cj's rotate every couple of months or so, but I typically prefer the one at bats. Sometimes they play good rock stuff. The cj's bands are usually extraordinarily cheesy in the music they perform.
But getting back to Dfly. I assume nothing has changed since last year, but it's basically a normal modern day nightclub. There's no dance floor per se, which is unusual, but you can dance if you want to. If you're much over 40 and look it, then you're perceived as the weird old man in the club. That's one reason you don't understand.

Hmmmmmm That's a good theory. Live music has been out of style for 30 years? I wasn't old enough to drink 30 years ago so I'm not sure what the rage was back then, but I'll take your word for it being hot back then. I was 33 when I first came to Jakarta and back then could basically get any girl I wanted anywhere I went. Ya, I'm about 10 years older now and the girls don't flock like they used to. However, when I first arrived, I thought places similar to DragonFly (which didn't exist back then) sucked back then just like they do now. I've always liked places with live music better than places like Dragonfly where they have nothing to offer other than standing around listening to music played by a dj and no dancing. If there were girls popping their boobs out there for some entertainment, it would be ok. But that doesn't happen. I just don't see what entertainment value that place offers that you can't find anywhere.
Best place in Jakarta (in my opinion) was the old Hard Rock prior to it moving out of Sarinah. Hookers were in the bar area to the right and the "nice girls" were either upstairs or to the left or center so it was easy to know who was who. Haha. The bands there always got the crowds dancing (fairly rare to see that in Jakarta actually). By 2am, everyone was dancing on top of the tables. That place truly rocked. If you need a table in those venues (DF or CJ's) , you can drop me a line (better via pm as I'll get noticed by email) at least a day before you plan to go and state whether you want the long tables or the sofa.
Be advised however that for table or sofa they have minimum charges in both places (table's cheaper, CJ's cheaper). I forget how much (I think it was around 1, 5m for table and 2, 5m for sofa? Not too sure, sorry). But if you came with group of friends, or if you're much of a drinker I think you'll easily find the way to fill up the charges.

Had some time this week so decide to check the situation for different weekday.

First night back in Jakarta I headed down to the blok as Tiga puluh prices were just too high. Not a long cab ride to the blok from le meridien. So there I was in a sweet pickle, set to fly back to Jakarta for a dummy mission (fully accommodated) that could be done in mere 4 hrs time but scheduled for two-nighters. And I was like a zombie turned back to life when the plane hit Soekarno-Hatta Airport at last on May 3 morning, embracing the first breath of sweet polluted Jakarta air and raring to go.

Around 1. 30pm I was back to the hotel after concluded the day's meeting (politely declined the lunch and entertainment offer, and made appointment to meet again at next day morning). As for myself I frequent both of those places (in fact I have Dragonfly's membership and also member of CJ's / anyone needs a table?). I've got to admit thought that when I went to these places, I was with a companion (or sometimes companions.) already, so I just went there to enjoy the place athmosphere, not on hunting mission. (the owners surely sank some dough into the place, I wonder if they recouped their money, much less made a good profit when the times were good. Hmmmmmm That's a good theory. Live music has been out of style for 30 years? I wasn't old enough to drink 30 years ago so I'm not sure what the rage was back then, but I'll take your word for it being hot back then. I was 33 when I first came to Jakarta and back then could basically get any girl I wanted anywhere I went. Ya, I'm about 10 years older now and the girls don't flock like they used to. However, when I first arrived, I thought places similar to DragonFly (which didn't exist back then) sucked back then just like they do now. I've always liked places with live music better than places like Dragonfly where they have nothing to offer other than standing around listening to music played by a dj and no dancing. Best place in Jakarta (in my opinion) was the old Hard Rock prior to it moving out of Sarinah. The bands there always got the crowds dancing (fairly rare to see that in Jakarta actually). By 2am, everyone was dancing on top of the tables. That place truly rocked. Yes, outside of the US, live club music remains far more popular than back stateside. However, the big trend in clubs has been to play Electronic Dance Music (starting with 80's synth stuff and then house music) ever since the mid 80's. I know because I started sneaking into clubs at that time and then worked in several after I turned legal.
The cool "in" places now will play progressive / trance. No live music with cheesy pop covers thank you though I'll grant you that Indo girls / women will still love those very very painful cheesy shows at CJ's.
Bottom line though is that even in the developing world, the "in" places have modeled themselves after the US and London, etc. Why do all the "cool" places in Bali play trance / progressive? Why do thousands of people flock to Stadium and Millenium, especially on weekends? Is it to hear good "live bands" doing cheesy pop covers, etc?

Hard to find at first but cool once there. First night back in Jakarta I headed down to the blok as Tiga puluh prices were just too high. Not a long cab ride to the blok from le meridien. As advised I jumped in a cab just after midnight and was at the Shang in 10 minutes (Rp20, 000). Walked into BATS and paid Rp115, 000 entrance fee which included a decent pint of 'Bintang'.

RTFF revealed nothing recent about facilities around Sari Pan Pacific.That's basically because there are none. Back about 10 years ago in the days of Tanamur, that was a great place to stay, but not anymore.
You have Zen karaoke right across the street from there and that's a fun place where you can get girls (although it isn't cheap).
You can pick up girls in the Pit Stop bar in front of Sari Pan Pacific on occasion, but it's not a very good pick up spot.
The nearest massage place is about 1/2 hour from there in a taxi. Your best bet is probably to grab a taxi to Malioboro (tell the taxi to take you to Gajah Mada plaza and Malioboro is about 1 block before the Mall on the left) or some of the other Mangga Besar area massage places like Hotel Travel or even Hotel Classic.

So if we remove that specification we can say that in fact your choice of hotel is really quite strategic given that it sits slab dab in the midway between the two happy hunting grounds of Kota and Blok M. Have a look out the front of the hotel and you will see a dedicated buslane with big orange and red buses running north and south stopping off at the various bus shelters, your nearest one will be Sarinah. Buy a ticket, princely sum of Rp3500 (about $0. 40) and decide where you want to go.
Go south all the way to the Blok M terminal and as you leave the bus have a look down to your left to see a shabby little street with several bars, Top Gun, My Bar etc. After 10pm these bars are buzzing with ladies who for a certain sum will provide you with carnal pleasures. The Busway stops running at 10pm so you'll need a taxi home but at that time of night (or morning) there will be little traffic and the journey back to your hotel will take about twenty minutes or less.
Alternatively go north and get off at Harmoni, a busy intersection, within walking distance of this stop you will find two very well appointed massage parlours / knocking shops called V2 (in the same complex as the Carrefour supermarket) or a block or two further north past the Lion tower, the Malioboro Hotel, all your needs should be taken care of there.
If you like you can stay on the bus and go to Mangga Besar (caution alight at the stop after Mangga Besar, Olimo, to avoid a long walk) and this brings you to the area of that name. Within walking distance of this stop (or alternatively hire the motor cycle taxi driver,"ojek", patiently waiting at the foot of the steps outside the Ibis hotel, Rp10-20,000 should be sufficient) to take you to whichever delightful establishment in that locality that you will have already read about on the forum.
The Busway beats the traffic by day, by nights you will be less than half an hour's taxi drive from your hotel.

Woke up refreshed and immediately swept over my ass to the work appointment, and this time I had to accept the lunch offer, as it would be quite rude of me to decline their offer twice. My Fridays are now a frenzy of scheduling and being a middle aged British man I love my neat orderly timetables but unfortunately when this is combined with the time-keeping abilities of young Indonesian women chaos can sometimes reign. With my two fifteen arriving a quarter of an hour early I have to give my twelve thirty, who came half an hour late, the bum's rush out the door. It's like one of those bedroom farces, I'm waving off one set as I rush around tidying the room with the next set already on the way up in the lift. By six thirty I'm thoroughly knackered and ready for home.

I had something similar happen to me a few years ago. Met a girl in a north jakarta night club who was there with her college friends. I gave her my number and had a nice afternoon with her the following weekend, then it seems she passed my number around. At first it was quite fun waiting to see what the girls would look like when they showed up. But the problem with getting those sms from girls I'd never met before is that some of them were downright ugly when they arrived. Sure there were some very nice ones, but it got to the point where I didn't find it worth the time to wait for the girls to come just to be disappointed. However as I get older I rate attitude higher than looks, I recall posting pictures of an extremely hot girl a year or so back which caused quite a stir but she was a complete starfish whereas "Ela" whose photos are posted hasn't the greatest looking face but with those tits and an attitude to match I'd be delighted to hook up again. That's also why I try to schedule in several meetings in the course of an afternoon, you do get the odd munter but it averages out and there are usually many more attractive girls and even the occasional stunners.

Tried to post this report a couple of days ago, I actually rewrote it in ISG, took me about 2 hours, after that I pushed the add report button the forum went nuts and became white. So I try again in shorter versions and parts. I have abused this forum to long and I'm sorry for that. You may find my report boring though I must say I had a great time in Jakarta. Maybe some newbie find this report interesting. Its the third time since I got home to Europe, that I wake up and don't know where I am, what hotel, alone? It happened before when I have come home from asia. Must be that Padang food we ate JAD.
Part 1:
Only handluggage in the x-ray, through custom. I had some presc. Medicine but they did not open the bag. (Fisherman had told me that they don't scan the handluggage, hehe). Took a preordered silver to Le-Meridien, and when my luggage was in the room, nice deluxe room by the way but nothing special, I went to Plaza Indo to eat. As I told the waitress it was my first time in Jakarta I got her number, she told me she was free on Monday. I had this crappy HP I bought in BKK, wich I had to recharge every 6 hours or so, and it soon became a problem. I took a taxi back to the hotel. Had a nap but got awake in time to take a shower and then about 7PM I got a call from Mr JAD the II..Is it Primo Bolan? This is JAD, meet me in the lobby. (Sounded like I had an appointment with KGB). So I went down and after some small chat, we walked straight out in the night. JAD is a really nice guy and very social. It was the first time ever, from what I know, that I met someone from the forum. Hotel Travel, Kings Cross and Malioboro, they vere all hot places full of beutiful girls, but I like to hunt. I think we went to Blok M also but everything seems like a fog of girls, bars and new impressins, because it was my first time in Jakarta and Indonesia. But JAD was always there to help, giving info about everything and anything I needed to know.

Mulia looks like a palace when walking through the lobby. Thats my first impression. But I know that some hotels have a nice "face" and the rooms can be another story. Mulia looks nice and have a good reputation in tripadvisor, right now its nr 2 in the Jakarta rating. We went inside CJs and it was a big place with a big scene and a live band that played occasionally and some other music in between. We had some beer in the bar (and I had one on the floor). There were not to many girls but the number were rising after a while and I walked around in a candyshop with big eyes, trying to chat with some. They opened with one juta but came down when they realized how nice I was, hehe.

Of course I have not brought in everything to this report, It was more girls and more black ops but they are either classified or my mind is getting old. The report would simply be to big and never end, and I am tired now, I'm an old man.
Me and JAD also did some cultural stuff and one day we went to the old city to have a look at the history of Jakarta with some museums and the pier, but thats another story. I like Jakarta because of the beutiful girls and I felt that everyone was very helpful with everything, well almost. Maybe I am just tired of the Philippines and Thailand.
When the mongering places are spread out as in Jakarta the biggest problem must be the traffic, sometimes it could be a real pain to sit in a taxi and see the time pass by.
I also tried the DIA but I rather try to forget about that. I did not follow up with the Indo Plaza girl, but I will be back to have my revenge on Jakarta some day. Thanks JAD it was a nice time I had with you.

Thats a pretty good analysis Doorman. I would agree on the most part. I would add that every freebie girl I have had (ok only 3 so far.) has also mentioned their dislike of marrying Indonesian men. Something I have not really understood yet. But whatever reason it is, the fact that your a foreigner also helps pull these girls.

In my opinion, Club 36 is a waste of time. If you don't book a table in advance, you won't get one without paying someone there some money to get one. And the way the place is set up, you need a table. They do have topless dancers that show up around midnight. Some Thai, some Indo. And there are some lady escorts there who will try to get you to buy them drinks. The place is basically all locals who come there with a bunch of friends and buy bottle after bottle of liquor (which guarantees them a table). In the old days, this was one of the few venues with topless dancers, so it was a novelty. Now I can see topless dancers all over the place, so this place isn't worth my time. Yes, it does have Thai girls dancing there, but I go to Thailand all the time so that's far from a novelty for me to see that.

so, i was wandering if you can help me to figure out what would it be a holiday here compared to pattaya.i wouldn't call the scene here as particularly easy. it's not "in your face" like thailand, so you need to deal with the constant hassle of moving from one place to another with taxi drivers that could learn how speeding in a traffic jam won't really solve any problem. and nobody really speaks english here, so there is always confusion. on the other hand, the quality of cewek here is much better than what you'd find in even bangkok in my opinion. pattaya is just a shithole where the leftovers from all across the country end up.
met up with smoothy the other day and hit classic hotel. there's definitely better stock in the afternoon than night.

I'm sure there are a few downmarket places that are "cash only" but most if not all the upmarket with take plastic. Last weekend at Alexis and you have to love that they put the room / girl charge under "Red wine bottle" or something similar. Makes it easy for anyone on an expense account, then again you might not want to risk that your boss has been to this place and knows the name.

Neither instance had anything to do with an MP or spa, but still, my advice would be to always try to visit Hotel Classic, Travel, Malioboro, Alexis, or any other MP / spa on a cash-only basis. It reduces the risk of someone stealing your card number, also you don't leave an electronic / paper trail that you've ever been at such a place.
In fact, if I know I'm going into a questionable area, sometimes I'll leave every credit card at home and just go out with cash; even if my wallet is stolen, I can always take a cab back to my hotel / apartment and get money from there to pay the taxi driver.

Your other option would be to type the letter w three times then a period then the words jakarta after dark as one word then a period then the letters see o m and you'll find his website.
JAD2's services are highly recommended by me. Money well spent for any first time visitor such as yourself.
Try not to use your credit card in Jakarta except for 5 star hotels as my card was cloned & I'm now in the process of either being sued by the bank or suing them for allowing this fraud! :(

Last month I was forced to use my credit card as I had lost my Ozzy atm card and couldn't handle being in Jakarta with no cash to flash for some gash so used my credit card at HC & HT.
