I've been here since early July, hit Blok M some nights, other places other nights. I have to say third floor of the Classic Hotel has a club Terminal 21 that is awesome. I was there on weekday nights, I saw no fewer than 75 girls all ready to go, Two at a time for 400, 000 which is 40. 00 USD. All were cute young and hot.

Hi,
Was in Jakarta for 5 days 4 nights last week and had sex all four nights. No surprise here, I know.

Personally, I like to go to Jakarta and find a nice girl and take her to Bali with me. The indo girls can normally get a cheaper rate for the hotel than you can as a foreigner, so it ends up saving you money.

Could some of you experts on Jakarta give me a hint of a 2-3 days mongoringpackage. Just wanting Freelanceladies. I presume I will end up in Block M (My Bar, Top Gun, Sportsmann) so I would realy like to have tip of the closest decent hotel preferably walking distance to this place. As I have read most of the hotels (99, 9%) are GF and no joiners fee am I right? So then it is just location location and licefree bed (I hope) which is realy important to me.

You can take the girl in an on site short time room for an hour. If she's an attractive girl, about 15 minutes after you finish with her, another guy will be having sex with that same girl in a different room. The girls service approximately 8 guys a day, so the earlier you get there, the fresher the girl. Price is 270k for 1 girl for an hour or 400k for 2 girls for an hour. They will expect at least a 50k tip each, but I normally give them 100k tip each if they are good.
Hotel Classic is far from Blok M. All the way at the other side of Jakarta. Even non rush hour, it will take you close to an hour to get there from Blok M. At Rush hour, maybe 2 hours by taxi. North Jakarta has brothels designed mainly for the local Chinese and Indonesians such as Hotel Classic. South Jakarta has freelancer bars in Blok M for the expats such as Top Gun, D's Place, and My Bar. There are also expat freelance bars in the 5 star hotels like Hotel Shangri La and Hotel Mulia but the price is higher. The girls in the expats bars speak English, the girls in the North Jakarta brothels don't normally speak a word of English.

As for the pricing issue there are a few things worth remembering on a general level (my meaning). First try to look up what is the main price beeing quoted from the freelancegirls. In Jakarta I have been reading ISG forum and also got PM`s that a freelancegirl can cost from 3. 500. 000 ST and from 500. 000. 1MILL LT (overnight and multiple entries). I guess you can consider your DIA date a freelancegirl. So 2MILL sounds steep to me if she is not very Hi So, Model material or have some special skills as squirting, wetsex and the like. But ofcourse only the sky is the limit when it comes to pricing and ofcourse someone having their looks and beauty playing as an advantage can keep a higher price as long as they get customers / sponsors.
Second and more important is if you agree to a high asking price the girl can easily choose not to perform (starfishing) and she still knows she will still get good money from the situation. Example: If you agree to give her 2MILL for LT she can perform badly so you want her out of the room quickly. She knows you will not give her full asking price but she will probably end up with around 1MILL or so (for maby a bad and even short ST session). This is calculated up front. I have made this mistake when I was a young mongorer and it is educational.
And third never pay upfront. You tend to get more motivated girls this way.

/QUOTE]I'm not an expert, but I'll give it a shot. Smoothy already addressed Hotel Classic so I'll mention other info for you to continue your research. Ramadan will be over on 19 Aug. You may want to travel to Jakarta on or after this date. As far as hotels go, look on TripAdvisor for the Ambhara Hotel as well as the hotel Gran Mahakam. I don't know what your budget is. Ambhara is closer to Jalan Palatehan. Mahakam is also within walking distance but you may prefer a taxi. Mahakam is nicer and has a more conservative feel but like any hotel I've used in Jakarta they won't bat an eye if you bring in a girl you've picked up. Hotel Melawai is an easy walk from Mahakam. Just head to the elevator and go up to the 6th floor. Also, there are two malls within walking distance so you have that. Look up Ambhara and Mahakam and take your pick. Or try something else in the area. If you want to venture into Kota you may want to save it for your next trip and just use this round to get your feet wet in the Blok M area which is relatively tame and manageable.

I am not sure which area of Jarkata you are looking at you should be able to get a studio apartment outside the city center for less than 7 Mil RP a month, Condo in Jarkata are cheaper than in Bangkok you should ask for help by Local co worker for help don't go to real estate agent they will find all the high price condo for you to get more comissions.

And white guys are not their preference most of the time. They normally prefer a rich Chinese or Japanese guy first.
I do notice in Thailand that they will ban Indians, Arabs and African Blacks from the bars telling them "members only". But that's not really racism as much as a logical business decision based on experiences with those types of customers in the past. I do think a bit of that goes on in Jakarta as well on a personal level with the girls, but not as much as in Thailand. Once those bars / girls find out a black guy is American, they accept him with open arms, so it has nothing to do with skin color. It's all about culture and how different people are perceived who come from different cultures. And the perception of the types who get banned from the bars in Thailand is that they are normally cheap and / or rude. (at least that's what I've been told by the Thai girls) I'm not agreeing with it or saying it's right, but it happens. I actually think being arabic in Jakarta is an advantage with most of the girls.

2) Any tips to note while I travel on these, based on your experience? AR: Allow 3 hours at least for transfer time between flights as these one-sector carriers are often late, especially with domestic flights. Also to allow time to pick up your luggage and get to the international terminal.
3) What about Tiger Airways. They seem better than these, but is slightly expensive. AR: No difference. I used Lion Air many times going between Singapore and Jakarta. Good airline at a great price.

I concur with this. Budget airlines are cheap and reliable. No need to pay the SQ / GA infamous rates to go to or leave CGK.
I would add that, when I manage to get a decent rate, I prefer to take Air Asia, which has its own terminal which is brand new, less crowded and more efficient.
Arriving in or leaving from the "normal" terminal (#2 for most airlines, thai, sq, ga.) can really be a pain. You can be facing lines at immigration that can take up to one hour. Am not joking. If your flight arrives at the same time as one loaded with foreigners who need visa on arrival, especially Chinese (PRC) , japanese, koreans, who, take longer to clear in general, for some reasons unknown to me if not just with the language bareer. Same goes with departure process, which is most of the time quite annoying at T2.
To be completely thorough, two things about Lion Air :
- one positive : the stewardesses rock! I found Lion Air to have the prettiest in general. Other airlines have apparently lower hiring standards. Although nothing to be compared with our European or US airlines, where age does matter!
- one more negative : lots of Indo people still talk about the one or few case (s) where Lion Air pilots were caught positive on metamphetamine or a similar drug, this being blamed on the very pressuring flight schedules imposed by their sophisticated model. Have no idea if this is a legend or not.
Last, on some destinations, and that goes for Jakarta too, compare extensively with flag carriers. Jakarta-KL seems to be a very competitive route, and sometimes Malaysia Airlines is cheaper than others, if you add up prices for extra luggage, or meals and drinks. And you get miles on all Skyteam programmes for most of the tickets.

SpartanThe Onyx bar is a small bar. Sometimes there are FL there and I have used their services whin I was attracted.
The bar is not a regular hunting ground; mostly for hotel guests, but there is the occasional live band.

Tiger air I flew twice where Airasia was not flying eg Saigon to Singapore. Again no problems, Simply book your baggage when making the reservation otherwise you"ll have to pay very high charges at the airport.
Lion air I never had the chance to use them.

I fly Lion air last yr from CGK to Batam they have 4 flight a day about 45 USD one way on time no problem and from Batam you just take the fast Ferry to Harbur front in Singapore about one hr.

BATS-walk in and get followed by so many skirts. Picked a 22 yo that was 4'9" and maybe 80 pounds. Over priced but was cute. Asked for a million and over paid at 600, 000 plus tip. I rocked her world but was not impressed with her skills. BATS is got to be the easiest place to pick-up here as over half the girls are on the take. I have yet to try block m or any of the other places listed here.

Hope someone can help.Some of the places on Jaksa might serve, although none of them are really much good. Djody's Guest House is not too bad, Nick's is a flea-bag, so is Borneo. I only use those places when I pick up a girl in Jaksa who even I would be embarrassed to take back to my apartment, and I usually end up paying for the night but leaving after I've done what I need to do and go home. Many of the other cheapies on Jaksa discourage tourists checking in with obvious hookers, although if she's a "girl-friend" (ie. You actually check in together) , they may not kick up a fuss. Still, quite unlike quality hotels, who usually don't give a shit, they worry about hookers bringing the tone down. For about double what you mention, there are a few hotels on Wahid Hasyim that might be a bit better. I don't know if F1 is girl-tolerant, seems likely, I've never used it. Jakarta is generally not good for what you want, though. It's more geared towards expats and visitors with some cash to spend. Jogja and Bali and practically anywhere else in Indonesia, except the more Islamic provinces (Aceh, West Sumatra, some of the Nusa Tenggara islands) , are much better. Hotel Travel is inconveniently located for tourists, but will tolerate anything so long as you don't stain the sheets. There are a few other places that are pretty explicitly short-time hotels, often used for nookie with someone else's wife, but most of them aren't really designed for anything except that single purpose.
EDIT: The other thing about the cheap Jaksa places is that even a self-respecting Blok M girl would probably turn up her nose and sneer at you if you tried to take her there, let alone anything classier than that. They are really only good if you pull a girl on Jaksa itself. The girls on Jaksa range from grim to just ok, with the ones in the latter group usually being left-overs from Blok M and the clubs - ie. the ones who can't always get a guy, so they go to Jaksa for a last-chance shot or a consoling drink. Nicks actually has a dorm with a nightly charge that some girls use when they are really down on their luck, but you are talking the bottom of the barrel, bar the railway lines.
DOUBLE EDIT: Forget the advice about Hotel Travel, it's just a knocking shop, not a real hotel. I'm getting it mixed up with the one near Utan Kayu, forget the name ... don't worry about it anyway, a bad choice, filled with Arabs, extremely shady characters, and Mamasans pushing girls who should be at primary school ... lousy vibe, dangerous, and uncool.

I remember a few years back they had a zero fare promo. I booked several flights going around SE Asia. Eg Jakarta to Singapore not even a penny was charged since airport tax is payable in cash on departure. I paid nothing flying to Pnom Penh from Bangkok and I had to pay 7 dollars for the taxi ride to my hotel. I was thinking of that and was laughing.
Those days have gone now but still their promos are cheap. Eg BKK to Chang Rai for 7 euros and returning from Chang Mai for 8 euros, or round trip to Surathani on my way to Koh Samui for 17 euros. Just peanuts.
I book the extras a few days before my flight when I am certain that I am going to fly.

Reading reports it seems that the malls have dried up in south and central Jakarta. It is the end of the holiday and was in Pacific place yesterday. Mall was not it's usual business. BATS at the Shangri-La: a medium sized hotel pub with cover band, this bar reminded me of an American Sports Bar. Customers seems to be mostly expats, many men in suits but also women. When I visited there were maybe 10 freelancing girls on the premises, quality 4-7, I flirted with a a pretty classy woman, MILF type 35-45 years old perhaps, I bought her a drink and for that she let me cuddle and kiss her, pretty nice but didn't feel like taking her she was asking for big money, smoked a lot, was sweating a lot (menopause?) and I wanted to move on. Like most places in Jakarta nearly all girls smoke cigarettes almost constantly which puts me off. Drinks are expensive and the service was not great, I am not used to pay entrance fee to a place like this. As you can hear I did not like this place.
CJ's at Mulia: I liked this better that BATS, a much posher place with more beautiful people in general, clientel seems to be rich beautiful welldressed people with some expats and working girls, quality 6-8. Music: a live band was really good when I was there and service was also good although expensive. Chatted with some not super attractive girls but never got the chance to chat with the really hot ones. Again: LOTS of cigarette smoke.
Classic Hotel: Well I did not get this hotel / establishment, I went to several different places in this hotel to find me some girls / sex, first the "stripclub" which was pretty boring, girls quality 3-6 then I went to the massage / spa which had no girls at all? Then up some floors to some KTV type place packed with loads of locals and cigarette smoke and SUPER loud music where the mamasan kept bringing me totally bored girls that could speak zero English, I did not like or understood what anyone said so I left unsatisfied.
I met a girl from Tagged. Com but I did not like her either hehe so all in all no luck in Jakarta. I did not like the city much either, I had not much time to explore but what I saw was not that nice and it was pretty difficult going places due to distances and traffic and almost non existent public transport.

I do spot them in a group sometimes with real girls at places like Dragonfly, but the numbers are usually 1 shemale to about 50 real girls. And yes, I've chatted with one before and could easily make it out from the voice and size of shoulders. When in doubt I always leave out.

So sorry to hear such a sad story about your trip to Jakarta. I am guessing that you may not have read the forum to get a better feel and directions as to how to enjoy Jakarta. Unlike Thailand or Philippines where girls are all out in the open and available in numbers everywhere, Jakarta is somehow more secretive and is more about knowing the right places (its a huge city) and how to move around so as not only not waste your time but also, especially for short stays, optimise your monguering. You have certainly walked next to extremely hot places loaded with lovely girls without knowing it. Its a pity you did not call on JAD's services. I can assure you that you would have had a totally different experience.
BATS: its a typical hit or miss place, it can be excellent or real lousy. The girls move around several clubs and bars and hence depends where they went at any particular time. I lived for months in the Shangri La and had the opportunity to see how it goes on there. The main lesson for that bar is: get in, not too early, evaluate the place and move on if not much is happening. In that bar as well as in all other places, I did pick up real jewels at times.
CJ's Mulia: its one of the best pick-up spots of Jakarta, though a bit pricy. The girls there were (while I lived there) better than average elsewhere like BATS or Tiga Puluh. Again, sometimes you may find it hard to choose as there are so many stunning girls and sometimes there nothing worth to see or talk to. Same as for any place in Jakarta, if you don't find anything you like, move on.
Classic Hotel: I only discovered that place last year ... believe it or not, though I had lived in Jakarta before, and believe me, I do believe that its one of the best value for money places in Jakarta. Loads and loads of pretty and fresh girls, most of them willing to please you, read the posts of those who have been there and see their pictures taken there. I actually cursed myself for not having tried it long ago. I honestly do not understand how come you did not like it ... Maybe you did not go to the right place?
Tagged. Com: I notice that you met only ONE girl from there. Its like buying one lottery ticket in your life and expect to win the jackpot. I cannot count the gems that I had from Tagged. However, I had to talk and chat with dozens of them before getting a good hit. When I used to date them, some days I arranged up to 4 meetings with different girls in one day. The trick here is to play the numbers. Eventually, out of a certain number, you will definitely have a hit.
Lastly, Jakarta is a city that needs one to invest himself much more than in any other city, especially cities like Bangkok which receive you with open arms (and eventually wide open legs. Hehehe).

When there is a possibility, best to postpone or bring forward your trip to two weeks before or two weeks after Ramadhan, if not a month either way. Been there during the Muslim fasting month three years ago. Thankfully on work as I would have cursed myself had I booked the trip and paid for it myself.

If I had found one special lady / had some good sex maybe I had been more happy and not so critical but my assessment now is that for a 2-7 day visit a normal traveller / tourist with an interest in sex have no major interest in Jakarta unless one has other businesses in town I certainly did read the forum and spent some time researching, I had a shortlist + map of 7 places but only visited 3 of them as distances were so big and taxis from the more expensive hotels were pretty expensive.

I called up one of my standby's, an occasional Blok M girl in her mid 20's, skilled at "empot empot ayam" technique. reading your further comments about the clubs, the smoke, the girls, the hospitality, the transportation system or lack of it, the taxis, etc. you show clear signs of having developped a serious allergy to jakarta. and my friendly recommendation, would be: do not go back there, you'll only be wasting your time and money.

Maybe try being a bit more accepting yourself next time you're in Jakarta or anywhere else in South East Asia. The cigarette, particularly the kretek, is part of Indonesian life. In fact I believe this is one country that has more smokers than non-smokers.
I also can't make up what could seem so unwelcoming in Jakarta from what you've explained, especially in the establishments of interest to us. The only major problem as far as I can see is the traffic. Other minor issues, yes, but nothing to feel so disappointed about from my experience. I can't imagine Jakarta being a city where I'm made to feel unwelcome. The hospitality, well depends on what you expect for what you're willing to pay, I guess. Same as anywhere else.
Maybe you want to elaborate on your experiences so that we might have an idea of what you went through as a precaution for coming visits.

My point of view as a short time visitorand tourist is clear: Jakarta ranks VERY low. If you read travel literature and other travelers opinions in forums / blogs etc this can not come as a surprise to you guys. I did try to to be accepting and I have no discrimination towards Indonesia or other South East Asian destinations; I did enjoy Lombok, Gili Islands and some places in Bali. I love going to Thailand and I have enjoyed Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines and South China.
My main problems with the Jakarta as a city was: traffic, pollution / lack of fresh air, very visible poverty, the lack of public transport, a rather unpleasing architecture / city planning and a feeling of not being 100% safe. Plus a lack of major attractions or nice neighborhoods for dining / shopping, everything seemed to be mall based.
I found the local people more unfriendly and less smiling than the rest of Indonesia and other Asian countries.
All the three nightclubs I frequented were in hotels with super high security / armed guards, I was told I need to take a taxi there, unsafe to travel any other way, this left me with a feeling of unease.

And yes, in agreement also with Wild, you can't help but notice the negative side of Jakarta which is the extreme opposite of the levels of pleasure available in the city. That said, we're generally not there to look at the poverty, the quality of life of the locals and the architecture. In most cases I'm either there on work or on a dirty weekend off of it. I don't think you want to go to Jakarta for the scenery, because there's nothing really great to see compared to other tourist driven destinations in Indonesia.
If I'm in Jakarta, I'm out there to just have a great adventure in pursuit of great sex with arguably (if you're in the right places and lucky) some of the best looking women you'll find in Asia. I believe most of us are and heck, that's what all of you've been rambling about all along. The pollution, air quality and the traffic jams are just there as part of the adventure. So I can forgive the imperfections of Jakarta because the dirty adventure scene it offers is, if you could find some ratings and figures, for sure in the top 10 of the world.

My main problems with the Jakarta as a city was: traffic, pollution / lack of fresh air, very visible poverty, the lack of public transport, a rather unpleasing architecture / city planning and a feeling of not being 100% safe. Only thing is at some major hotels or malls, you do get to run through scanners prior to entry. These are mainly American owned establishments which are most likely to be targeted by extremists. In that sense Manila is rather more unsettling than Jakarta, as you never know who might be carrying your graveyard ticket.

Travelling businessmen, people passing passing through for the night and so on. For the true enthusiast you will not find any of this interesting at all.
The true enthusiast should stay in North jakarta and focus on the clubs and esteblishments there, namely Hotel Travel and Hotel Classic and I personally think Stadium nightclub is well worth a look just for the spectacle of it. Also laced in with all that is places like Berlian and so on.
True enthusiats should stay at the Mercure (I think it is that one) and just spend a couple of days in that North Jakarta area and don't waste your time on the over priced "touristy" type places elsewhere.

They're a mixed bunch in Berlian and Ibu Linda's, from all over the archipelago. But the ones there are also mostly a few years older than you are, young lad. RLIf your smart about it you can generally get 4-5 bottles per person per trip. Put no more than two bottles in each checked bag. As stated the X-ray machine will pick up but they don't always put the chalk marh. If your bag has a chalk mark take a damp towel and wipe off before exiting by customs. Then put one bottle in your carry on. When leaving through customs you'll need to put your hand carry through the X-ray. If they see a bag with a single bottle I've never been stopped. In other words there is no attempt to match up all the bags going through the X-ray machine with individuals. So if you have two carryons with a bottle each they generally are not watching to see if those two bags are with the same person. When you buy your duty free have them split up so only one bottle per bag. When you go through customs put one inside your carryon which will go through the X-ray and the other carry by itself or put in the trolley. In all my years here if they see its a clear duty free bag with a bottle they do not require you to put through the X-ray machine, worse case they do but as previously stated the guy watching the X-ray machine doesn't try to match each item to a individual. So in my case with a family of 3 and two checked bags each its not difficult to get 15-18 bottles per trip. Of course you always run the risk of being singled out but a few well placed rp100k notes will generally solve that. If your really paranoid a family of 3-4 can split up so if singled out you only have a portion of your loot to explain / pay for.

Could not find any information that looks correct on how much wine / liquor that a person can bring into indo when there on a short visit. Can anyone she some light? I know that these products are avaiable but I prefer some of own local stuff when I travel, usually bringing 1 or 2 bottles for myself and maybe some hard liquor as well. Is the prices for alcohol comparable to my purchasing in duty free?I used to bring liquor and wine into Jakarta without any problems, sometimes up to 4 bottles in the checked suitcase plus one or two in the hand carried one. The trick I believe is to talk nicely to the custom officer and just say that they are not for you but for friends, I used the indo word "Teman teman" meaning many friends. They never said anything or ask to pay any fine. Try it.

TMTI have no idea whether FX is girlfriendly and massage being offered or not, but on the other hand I have not heard of any hotel giving any serious trouble to guys bringing back girls to their rooms. I am sure other bros here who have tried it will have more appropriate answers.

Never even hinted that we were already past the aloted time of tour. Class Act.

TMTAs has been said many times, all hotels (barring Syariah hotels like Sofyan) are pretty much girl friendly. Having said that, walking with a girl obviously dressed "for the job" does attract more attention in some places than others. Try sending your girl down in Mulia at 8:30/9am and see what I mean. As for the usual North vs South debate, it really is a case of personal preference. I've long since moved into the dating market over there and am very happy. No BS and they know you're not being faithful to them either. One of my current ones now has a new BF but will willingly meet me (even if he's around) and stay over if he's away. I stayed at the M Hotel at Block M, a new and decent hotel BTW. I visited all the usual bars and with the usual results, but I was a bit surprised by a couple of things. And what should I expect as a reasonable exchange rate?Don't exchange in the hotel since they will give you a raw deal. I would suggest that initially you exchange @ 100 dollars in the airport. There are money changers all over Jakarta. The one in Plaza Senayan gives a good rate. The exchange rate is dynamic, but, nevertheless it's been going between IDR 9200 to IDR 9500, depending upon the time and date of exchange. Most hotels would give you IDR 8000 to IDR 8500.

There are a lot of 24 hour money exchange on hayam wuruk across mercure hotel.
But exchanging the dollar in Indonesia is tricky, even for us local, because the only accept crisp dollar and big bill.
Also they have a list of dollar serial code that they prefer (make the most money).
I think ATM might be a good choice because of it.
For hotel exchange, check the online rate first. Some hotel rarely update and might give you good rate.

I always use the money changer own by Chinese in Loposari plaza at mangar begsar they will change most currency prefer RMB alway got good rate there, there are a few in the plaza and a bank that I use to change my US tc, you can change a small amount at the airport but hotel exhange rate is very low. Most money changer will not take bill with any kind of marking one them they like brand new crisp bill.

the first thing i did when i reached jakarta was to open a bca account, since even if one of the card gets swallowed, i could use the account of the other bank. in fact after a few days, i recall seeing a post in isg that someone else also had his card swallowed. while we could use the atm always, since one would get the correct rate and also no hassles about damaged or wrinkled notes. it's always better to ave cash handy, just in case of an eventuality of the card being swallowed. am sure you would endorse my view, gained after my past experience.

I think the main difference between the two scenes is that the girls in South, except for those in Maribaya, are "take-aways", while those in the North are generally for "in-house" activities.True, but that's during working hours. Hi Menteng, how have you been doing mate. I was in Bali last year and dropped into the BCA ATM opposite Hotel Kartika Chandra in Kuta area. Wanted to draw cash and inserted my HSBC card. And the next thing that happened after keying in my password was that my card just got swallowed. I rushed to BCA nearby and told them. They said nothing can be done, since sometimes it does happen that way. I called up HSBC and they said they would send me another card, but that would be to the address listed in my records and it was Jakarta. I could feel from the communication of both the banks, that this was a common occurence and both the banks did not show any element of surprise. My card was also swallowed without any reason once at a BNI in Jakarta. I told that to the Satpam who was on duty and to my surprise he was able to open the ATM. And there, on top of other cards was mine! I had more luck than you apparently!

True, but that's during working hours. As you may have found out yourself many Maribaya girls are quite happy to make housecalls outside working hours to get some extra income. They have to like you enough to exchange hp numbers, but that happens soon enough if you treat them like human beings.

My company insists on paying salaries through HSBC to all of the expats and so have it there. Easy to transfer funds to home country too. But, now I realize that having a local bank account is so convenient after opening a BCA account. Have easy access to their ATM's all over, which was not the case with HSBC. Since withdrawing money through debit card from any Visa compatible ATM resulted in a service charge being levied. We have a BCA branch in our building, where all local employees are paid their salaries. I just withdraw from HSBC the USD and deposit it in BCA and then have easy access to cash any time from BCA ATM's even in the remotest places.
Is it possible to buy a local prepaid sim at the airport.

TMTDon't buy a SIM card at the airport, the prices there are about double what you pay anywhere else. You can buy a card at practically every street corner. Simpati is good for remote regions, otherwise ProXL is fine. The only other point is that you can usually call people with the same provider at extremely cheap rates, so if you have business, girls to call, etc, then find out what card the most common contacts use. It will probably be one of the two that I mentioned. I think the "Only use Blue Bird taxis" mantra is overstating the case, there are quite a few other good companies, most notably Express, which is just as reliable and a fair bit cheaper. However, taxis at the airport are notorious for not wanting to use their meters, except ones from the more reputable companies, like the two I mentioned. If I use other companies, I ask them politely to turn the meter on and promise them I'll pay a bit extra. An extra 20, 000 is usually enough to keep them happy, but they can spot me as an old Jakarta hand. They may try it on a bit if they think you're a newbie to the city.
Another way to travel from the airport is just book on car service counter.
You can find it when you are exiting the passenger only area.
Never took the offer from unlicensed taxi.

Jakarta Airport taxi's. Pretty well all Cab's with a ground staff member in a uniform and whom will give you a card detailing airport levies etc and a complaint number are reliable. Gamya is owned by Blue Bird but is there lower priced option, they are green, always good.
It can however be a bit like Dodge City if you arrive at midnight or similar especially at Domestic. The dodgy ones move in.
Bank accounts, as pointed out you do need a KITAS or residency to open an account but a tip for frequent Bali visitors, Permata will let you open an account if a local resident with a Permata account vouches for you, they do not need to act as a guarantor or anything.
At least that is the case in Sanur. My friend visiting for an extended time did it with a local lass.

I'll focus on South Jakarta.

I always use the money changer own by Chinese in Loposari plaza at mangar begsar they will change most currency prefer RMB alway got good rate there, there are a few in the plaza and a bank that I use to change my US tc, you can change a small amount at the airport but hotel exhange rate is very low. Most money changer will not take bill with any kind of marking one them they like brand new crisp bill.
Fast Eddie 48I believe that I have found the best money changer in town. They give you basically the interbank rate for exchanging cash. Today he euro was at 12 535 Rps, unbeatable anywhere.
The place is called VIP Money Changer. 23 Menteng Raya, Jakarta Pusat. 10340 Jakarta, hotline: 021-3190 7777 and 4444, its near Menteng Plaza, in Cikini area.
There are 3 drawbacks however:
- one is that the taxis may have difficulty in finding it, its near an ugly building painted in bright blue and white,
- two, you have to take a number and quue up, it took me 37 minutes wait,
- and three make sure you have your I'd with you, I had to get back to the hotel to get my passport.

On the subject of taxis recommended ones include Express, Taxiku, Transcab, Gamya from the 'Tarif Bawah' section. Only once have I been taken for a ride when I used a dodgy taxi and it was raining thus no reputable taxis were available once he started to unfollow the directions I was giving I paid the metre and got out so I stick to above mentioned taxis on the whole.
PS avoid the KostiJaya taxis remember one time no AC in the 30 year old ford banger.
Ok so I have been here two weeks in Jakarta and I have come to two conclusions that have been expressed before, in part or whole 1. You treat Indonesian women with respect and be nice to them and they will do anything for you 2. Indonesian women are real sex machines.
From my contacts from DIA so far I have batted 100. I have met with 3 of them and each time was not disappointed. The first date, we were in the sack on the second date. The next time I met her friends and we all had dinner, that night I was repaid were well. Not a night to forget. And all it was, be yourself. I have found that the rate that is charged at the Shangrila is not that much different than the rates the money changes charge. So maybe a good thing to change it at the front desk if you have older notes to change the staff is pretty friendly and accommodating to your requests, (that cute hostess even suggested she can go to Bandung with me when I take a trip next week) and the hotel seems to be girl friendly as I have not been asked about guests.
Now the cons, hotel is far from anything so have to take a taxi to get there and the restaurants in my opinion are not work the time or cost, you can probably find better and more authentic foods at the malls for a lower price and this is where I have most of my meals.
So my two cents for now, will have more reports to post in the weeks to come as I have more adventure here in this city Jakarta.

I was going to write a long report with a lot of blah blah (I already posted something in the Hotels thread) , but I decided to cut it short. We often tell people to RTFF, but honestly it took me a lot of reading, re-reading, and organizing to make sense of all the posts. The monger map was a huge help:

Places visited:
1. Tiga Puluh. This means "30" in Bahasa and maybe it's the minimum age requirement for the ladies to enter. I was warned that there older girls here, but honestly I saw all shapes and sizes. It's super convenient if you're staying in Le Meridien, since it's downstairs. I ended up taking a girl with big boobs (silicone assisted, alas) and a bug butt up to my room, and she seemed to know all of the security personnel. One cautionary note: the girls look much different in the bright lights of your hotel room than in a dark club, so be ready for a surprise. I got three pops in eight hours, so I was satisfied. I was there on a Monday night and it was quiet, but they had a Filipino band (they have two that alternate) that was quite good and played everything from rock to rap. They had a "buy one, get two free" program that they strangely called something like, buy one, drink three.
2. Maribaya at Melawai Hotel. (They pronounced it like Mela-"way") I really liked this place, reminded me a bit of the thermas in Rio. Go into the hotel, take the 5th floor, and walk down some run-down hallways into a run-down club, and you're there. There were a couple of girls near the entrance, and about 20 girls total, all looking at me like hungry dogs. Only one other customer at the bar with his girl when I was there. With all those eyes on me, I chose a rather non-Indonesian tall girl, with A / B cups and a nice personality. Back to the run-down room for the usual activities. The fee was 450K plus a tip (I was on the generous side) , and 80K for my Jack & Coke and her Pocari.
3. Hotel Classic. This place is a huge club with a little of everything. When you come in, straight ahead is a stage with a junior-high style dance show; on the left are some strippers' poles; and on the right are couches with lots of girls. The mamasans are very aggressive about trying to bring you girls and use green laser pointers to point them out, call the waiter, etc. The shocker was that the show switched to a topless show-in conservative Indonesia! Still, most of the topless dancers looked bored and were not into it, but I couple had my ideal body type. Additional topless girls came out to dance on the poles and hustle for shots. I think it was five for 25K? One of the girls had a smoking body and really big tits, so I bought her three shots. (She climbed up on me and I even discretely touched them-they were real-and I didn't get thrown out of the club.) But she had a tray of shots to sell and soon moved on. It was my last night in Jakarta and I had several places to see, so I didn't try any of the girls, though there were enough cute ones to be happy and all shapes and sizes. When you enter, you are given a wrist band to aggregate your purchases. At one point, they took my wrist band away while bringing me a drink, and I was worried about my tab being padded, but you have to sign for drinks, and the bill was correct. (You have to pay and get an exit card to leave the club.)
4. Hotel Travel. I didn't stay long here. On the ground floor, you enter what was described as a hotel cafeteria. There were some girls sitting on couches and a karaoke video playing on stage. Behind the main room was a second room with pool tables that was pretty busy. It seemed you could get a girl and play pool for the evening. The main room had small circular tables and uncomfortable looking high chairs, and I didn't feel like I wanted to stay there long. And I didn't.
5. BATS (Bar at the Shangri-La.) This was tied with Maribaya as my favorite place. You enter the hotel and go down, down. And enter a rocking party! When I was there, it was full of expats and working girls, and the girls seemed more dressed up and "upscale" than at Tiga Puluh. Everybody was having a great time, there were plenty of girls to go around. I stood at the bar and started flirting with some of the working girls. I ended up taking the one nearest to me home (I should have looked around-there were some hot girls there) , and she ended up getting a phone call because "one of her friends was drunk," which was okay with me because my flight was leaving in a few hours and I had to pack. The girls had wanted to drag me to Red Square, but I didn't have the time. I had also wanted to go to Blok M (she claimed it was some kind of bad area and to "wear a condom" if a brought a girl home (like I did with her) , but I ran out of time and it got late.
I spent too much time in Jakarta (and wasted a day taking a city your) , but I needed a couple of days to get the lay of the land and get oriented. Next time, a couple of days in Jakarta, then on to Yogyakarta, and maybe Surabaya. My opinion was that the girls were more relaxed and friendly than in other high-traffic mongering areas.

ThanksYou are about 5 minutes away by a cab to Delta Spa at Gatot Subroto. Or just walk across to Ritz Carlton and pick one of those free lancers from Mistere. The bar at Ritz changed the name from Mistere to Tempus a couple of years ago. But they have been closed completely now for a few months. Supposedly renovating again, but business was so bad, who knows if they will open again? I do hear there is a special Halloween party there Wednesday, so maybe they are opening again. My reports are not in chronological order. This one is from the last day.

On my way to Classic on a Bluebird, I realise my folly. The club being referred to must have been the Malio Club, and not the Spa upstairs bar where girls could be had. Newbie mistake, anyway, decide to carry on and check out the early scene at Classic Terminal. Have a whicky soda and chat with 4 mamasans. Their girls are just checking in for the day and the pickings are slim. Watch a few line-ups frp Jap clients, finish my drink and leave. The girl I did on my first visit here give me a wink but I'm not interested in a repeat. I jump into a silverbird and head back.
