I was thinking I could pay freelancer in Jakarta on the same price range than Manila or Bangkok ($30/40 all night) and so I booked my flight without esitation for 30 days vacation in jakarta, but now reading posts here I might have been wrong.
Hope prices in Block M are similar to Manila and BangkokIDR 500-600 levels (or lower) are quoted quite frequently at Block M. So if you like that, its quite possible.
I do enjoy the convenience and the safety of the clubs in the 5* hotels and prefer not to venture outside of the prime areas.

The better looking low end freelancers for all night in Bangkok pulled from in front of Nana or Beergarten is 1500 baht last time I checked. That's $50. But that's the lower end girls. You can even get them for $1000 baht, but those are usually pretty low quality. You can get low end girls in Jakarta for the same price. If in Bangkok you want a girl as nice quality as you will get from CJs, that will cost you 3000 baht (100 USD). The price is the same in both countries. This is my feedback from a short 4 days stay in Jakarta.
Jakarta scene is a bit complex it's doesn't really have easy to go places like Nana Plaza or Soi Cowbow or Burgos in MNL.
So I would recommand to Jakarta virgins to use the services of JAD (http://www.jakartaafterdark.com/)
This will save you the troubles of the « learning curve » which can be quite long in Jakarta. If you don't know and stay short time, you won't be able to enjoy your visit.
I believe I did the whole tour (the newbie one at least.)
300K places such as : Classic, Hotel Travel, Stadium.
Pick up bars such as : CJ's, Top Gun in Blok M.
Spa : Alexis.
Alexis is a nice place for those that like Macau style places. But I had a disapointing service (compare to the 300K one). As I paid 2, 5 for the service, entrance, drink I can't really recommand the place! :)
As JAD says, « in Jakarta paying more doesn't ensure better services, it just means you'll fuck a better looking girl by indonesian standards »
That means tall / thin girl with a lighter complexion.
Overall I have mixed feeelings about Jakarta. It's a promising place, but I've had more luck with Manila girls. Also communications is easier as most girls in the Phils speak english properly.

Superb field report on the pro establishments north of Bunderan HI (as opposed to the freelancers of south Jakarta).
Two points struck me. First the deteriorating standard of BJ's in places like Classic and Malioboro. Where once bareback BJ's was the accepted norm, covered BJ's seem now to be customary. And when the condom isn't used the tissues and never-ending spitting is turning into a real turn off.
Secondly what's with the tin of fruit? I too offered a girl a drink in the room and she also opted for a tin of lychees. Well I was wondering how much you guys usually pay for FS with the in-hotel massage services. Lets say 500. 000 IDR till 800. 000IDR hotels in jakarta. I have not yet experienced a single hotel in jakarta or medan where they offer HJ but do not want BJ or FS. Although I usually do have to propose the BJ or FS myself.
In my experience an extended sessions is around 250. 000-300. 000 for the massage itself and I can not get to settle the girls for less then 1 till 1. 3 juta total (massage + FS included). The older they are the less they seem to let the price go down. BJ or FS negotation usually seems to be the same price for the same girl which I find rather odd. In le grandeur manga dua 1. 4 juta would usually do it for the most gorgeous women (around 25-27 year old) I saw in indonesia, on the downside the actual action after the massage is a little bit time-limited. I enjoy the massages so usually we discuss extra service at the end. I realize this are very high prizes compared to freelancer and standard spa's. That is why I wonder if I am the only one who can not negotiate for in room massage. Usually they ask how much I want to give, but a low or high opening bid does not seem to change anything.
Any personal experiences? Or perhaps negotation tips. I do not want to ruin the market prize. I realize the room prize gives a bad start negotiation entry already.

I'm amazed we do this every year, but for the benefit of those making their travel plans, I'll try and make it clear. Please do correct me if I get any facts wrong.
Ramadhan may start either 9th or 10th July and the Eid will follow either 7th or 8th August. Some girls will leave Jakarta before Ramadhan and some before the end of Ramadhan to home to their families. It's also a time of discipline and fasting, hence some girls will not indulge in anything between sunrise and sunset. There will always be exceptions to the rule and it should also be noted that not all girls are Muslims. Incidentally Ko, Bali is predominantly Hindu. Although a lot of Javanese women are "working" there now. I was chatting with one of the old FLs I knew from quite a while back; she told me that she had long since stopped going to CJs, but will be heading there to get some money for the fasting month (ironic really). If you do see her, be nice but be firm with your pricing. Her pic is attached below.
The net result is that most bars outside of hotels will shut down for the month and even the ones in hotels will close middle of the month and for the first two days of the Eid. Girls will be looking for money before the start of the month and those that stay until about the third week or so, will be looking for money to celebrate with their families too. There will be fewer girls around and in some cases they will be more discrete (I believe the Maribaya girls fall into this category) so please do your planning and homework. Some of the better connected places will still operate (read: Alexis, Malioboro, Travel etc) but do check beforehand.
The other topic frequently coming up is the pricing. Please do listen to the seniors who have been advising here; they have nothing to gain by giving false information. BTW Sebans, a cheaper girl doesn't necessarily mean less experienced. Some of the hardcore Blok M girls fall close to your price range, it's just that they can't find anyone to pay outrageous sums anymore. If you are really worried on the budget, go for the dating sites, after all, you have 30 days. That's more than enough time to date here. Within the dating sites, you'll still find the pros, the part timers and (in JAD's words) the civilians. The part timers are normally prettier and more demanding of your financial resources (read more expensive) but play your cards right and (if you're young and reasonably attractive) prices can come down.
Among the civilians (my area of interest) there are those truly seeking love; those who are seeking love but wouldn't mind some fun along the way; some looking for an escape to a foreign land; the ones seeking friendship and hoping they'll find love but don't mind some fun and a few just looking to have fun. Then there are some looking for something but they haven't made up their minds yet. I can't count the number who've expressed interest in me (and my profile is pretty clear that I'm not serious) yet when I check their profile, they're looking for marriage - so go figure. Within all these categories, there are some who expect oleh oleh (presents) and some who don't. Some who want to go out partying, and others who want to have a romantic dinner (plus a few who just want to come to your hotel room and have a good seeing to). Cheapest date: just about zero (I still give the minimum of chocolates). Most expensive date: 4 Million rupiahs plus shopping (she was regular and it wasn't every time that we went shopping or went out like that. Nice restaurant plus out for drinks and clubbing). My average date cost is around 200-500k depending on the person and the restaurant we go to.
Incidentally, if you do have a date, it's a hell of a lot cheaper going out for drinks and clubbing in Kemang rather than in BATS / CJs etc. Places like Dragonfly will kill your budget. The "normal" clubs are generally cheaper than the FL clubs for drinks but just check before you walk in. A simple indicator being the price of a bottle of vodka: if it's around 2 million and up, then you know the drinks are going to slaughter you. I think the club in Crowne Plaza (Retro?) is cheaper but not an FL joint last time I went. I don't dare comment on the price of drinks further than that as it's not really my area of expertise (although I've fallen prey to buying the odd Long Island for a girl here and there). If in doubt - or you're lazy to read and take in the advice here - seek the services of JAD.

What bugs me is that you guys always receive tons of interests and emails from young and sexy Jakarta girls on DIA and Indo cupid or Tagged and Badoo. I also have accounts on DIA and Indo cupid (gold) and Tagged and Badoo but I always receive only messages from old, ugly and overweight women living in Kalimantan, Irian Jaya or Medan or any far flung corner. They'll be smiling staring down at the towel tent or (if there's no towel) the clear signs that you're not in the strongest negotiating position. The thing is that they might be just as horny as you, it's just that they haven't been "teased" into the same predicament yet.
Medanboy, you can't spoil the market really. The hotel in house massages are all more or less similar in price. Perhaps you need to "disturb" them during the massage and throw in the odd flirt. It does work upon occasion to help in the negotiation if they themselves get intrigued. It certainly isn't the cheapest way to have your fun. Alternatively suggest that they massage you in their underwear from the start. If they're open for anything, they will be open to this too. I managed some decent negotiations this way. You certainly aren't as compromised during negotiations somehow. Good luck.

just so you know, weird things are happening in the north part of jakarta. multiple clubs have been raided multiple times in the last 3-4 weeks. stadium, millenium, millie's, and illegal's have all seen police and military enter and patrons were [CodeWord109] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord109) tested on the spot. google this and you will find tons of newspaper reports if you don't believe me. in all cases police had people in the clubs before to look things over before starting the raid. good news is all of these raids had to do with drugs and not the "other activities" that are agaist the law. but if you fancy more than a drink just know you could find yourself in a hot mess. also, if they decide they want to extort from the foreign bule caught with his pants down, you better hope your atm card works well. no one is sure why this is happening. but be careful. so far they have not targeted places such as sun city or malio, but for now i would stay out of places where drugs are the norm.
Been in Jakarta 2 weeks so far. I speak fluent Bahasa but I am very notorious (or famous) for not being able to pick up girls in Jakarta. So far only had 3 girls all of them from Tagged. And here I am having just slept with 3 girls of whom 2 were very average in looks and body (bit overweight).

MD IIThe Arab guy is around 46, so a couple of years older then me, apart from that I cannot judge if he is handsome or not. Yes it is indeed in the pedurenan area that kos. There are actually quite a few other bule guys staying there who seem to bring girls to their place also on a daily and sometimes even hourly basis.

Most girls in jakarta in my opinion do not like arabs, so they usually ask big prices at them. On the other hand the advantage for him seems to be arab AND australia. With speaking bahasa the dating girls should love you, I am not sure what seems to go wrong. The Arab guy is around 46, so a couple of years older then me, apart from that I cannot judge if he is handsome or not. Yes it is indeed in the pedurenan area that kos. There are actually quite a few other bule guys staying there who seem to bring girls to their place also on a daily and sometimes even hourly basis.
I know what you mean, for a white guy Jakarta is heaven, probably even better then heaven, but for some reasons I always miss out on the girls, mabye I am too shy or not confident enough or too negative in my thinking but whatever it is, I get less girls then the average Western bloke at age 45 or over would get in his own country.

Been in Jakarta 2 weeks so far. I speak fluent Bahasa but I am very notorious (or famous) for not being able to pick up girls in Jakarta. So far only had 3 girls all of them from Tagged. They were ok looking, one of them was actually quite ok and I want to meet her more but after she met me 2 times she mysteriously disappeared from the face of the earth (her phone would also not be active anymore). Probably gone off to some far away island with a bule.
Malls, bars and clubs don't do it for me. I am simply unable to pick up in those places weird as it may sound (yes I am a real bule guy from Europe 100% white). I went to Gaja Mada Mall in Kota the other day for a stroll around that old sad mall. So not much action for me, been sleeping alone most nights. I am staying in a nice Kos in the Kuningan area and it does not help that my neighbour (an Arab guy living in Australia) has a handphone full of gorgeous girls (I saw 79) of whom one comes to visit him every night. The girls that visit him always come in their own car and he assured me they are not rich callgirls but just rich girls with either rich parents or well paying jobs, so this Arab is never paying one rupia (not even taxi money) to the girls. And here I am having just slept with 3 girls of whom 2 were very average in looks and body (bit overweight).

Counting the days!With a bit of luck you should arrive just after the end of Ramadan. Don't now how long you will stay in Jakarta, but the girls should be arriving back by then. An additional perk will be "sisters day". Girls coming back from the kampung bring their younger sisters and introduce them to the Jakarta nightlife. I have witnessed this a couple of times in Jalan Pelatehan (Blok M) and I was often pleasantly suprised by the amount of new talent.

Well my luck has changed a bit. Just 6 days ago I met a girl who is exactly my type body wise, and she seems to be a nice person too. The problem is that she is insatiable in the bed (just 20 years old) , and she wants it a lot. It's becoming a bit hard for me to keep up with her. With speaking bahasa the dating girls should love you, I am not sure what seems to go wrong. For clubs it is easier with a wingman if you want a civilian, it is what I miss when I go alone to jakarta. Actually socializing with the male local compagnions works quite good. In bars go sit next to the lady boss. For malls, go sit next to them and talk. One of the most stunning normal (I think) girls I had said that she almost never clubs and in the malls she just wants the guy to come to her and say hello and ask stupid questions. As most of them do not get the signals she sends. If you do get them usually its a semi-pro in action and then it should be obvious.

Cheers!According to the website of the Indonesian Embassy to the Netherlands Eid al Fitr (or Idul Fitri as many Indonesians call it) is 5, 6.7, 8 & 9 August this year. This is regarded as National Holiday. Ramadan is not specifically mentioned, since for your average Indonesian its is not a holiday, but Idul Ftri marks the end of Ramadan.

Counting the days!If "5 weeks" means that you're arriving around June 28th, then you should have at least a few days of fun before many of the spas begin to close down and most of the working girls begin to head home.
Most of the regular spas, such as Kartika, Berlian and Maribaya spa, will close a couple of days before Ramadan begins. However, some of the spas that are located in "hotels" such as Alexis and Malioboro, remain open through the first few weeks of Ramadan.
During Ramadan in 2006 and 2007 I was able to have several sessions with Maribaya Spa girls who were working out of a couple of rooms in the Melawai Hotel. The Maribaya Spa is on the 6th floor of that hotel and was closed down just before the start of Ramadan, but many of the girls stayed in Jakarta for a couple of weeks to earn some extra money. Typically. 3 or 4 girls would chip in on a room, then take turns entertaining a gentleman while the others waited in the lobby (unless the guy wanted a threesome).

Go to any shopping plaza. And Jakarta has some huge shopping malls.
Screw the ones outside of the city where we can buy delicate, cheap local stuff. Fuck those. Go to the ones in town, those with real branded goods. Plaza Indonesia, Grand Indonesia, Plaza Senayan, Senayan city.
Hey, even the second rated ones are good. Pondok Indah mall. Anggrek city. Pacific Place.
It's easy to just do a pick up anywhere in those malls but the best places are the typical English speakers hang outs. Starbucks, English book shops, sandwich shops, English lesson schools.
Or the women hangouts. Hair salon, Shoe shops, trendy branded shops. Basically, see a shop with lot's of young women, go in!
(And do what after entering you ask? Well, since I started doing this, I have been into manicure, pedicure, say I'm buying shoes for my sister, checking on clothes for my boss' mistress and a million other lies. The manicure is the only thing I truly enjoy.)
Now comes the next challenge. Spotting a willing local takes a lot of time and talent. And I have not yet perfected my recce SOP. So I do the next best thing. I let them spot me.
Beware though bros. Like anywhere else on earth, women are not stupid. They may pretend to be stupid to suck us in. But they are very sharp when they feel someone bio-ing them.
So we must be very natural. In fact, this one no need to pretend. Once you have tried and find that the method works. You will be calm because you know. Sooner or later you will score. No need to be pushy and play the hard up, desperate guy.
The game plan is simple. Ask questions in English so that other people can hear you. If your target is not into you, often times, another willing person will step up. Sadly, that willing person may not always be who you want. If that's the case, thank the person, ask one more question and then move on. But if she is who you can want, then switch target. Once in a while, the original target may come back for a reassessment if this new girl is into you.
Keep moving if the mission cannot complete at one place. You are a tourist and you want to see / try more things. And Indonesian girls are really quite helpful to clueless charming tourists.

Have visited CJ / Bats last week and about 50 % of the girls are still the ones who I saw 6 months ago, another 40 % more than a year old and just about 10 % fresh talent. I doesn't look like there are is a no foreigner policy anywhere. BUT, all clubs anywhere in the world have a "no troublemaker" policy. If you stick out by virtue of ethnicity its a good idea to dress a bit above the local level, be clean shaved and not drunk. I gave similar advice to Asians coming to Europe. There are always people at the entrance (and girls) with prejudices, sometimes bordering racism. Making in a little bit extra effort in dressing, grooming and politeness goes a long way in avoiding those.

Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia. It is the business, political, industrial, transport and financial centre of the biggest economy in SE Asia and whilst to its north there is a major seaport Jakarta is most certainly not a beach resort.
It's strange that anyone would need to point these obvious facts out but when I look at some western blokes wandering around the streets of Jakarta on week days I often wonder have they accidentally got off the plane one stop short off Bali.
In London, New York, Sydney, Moscow, Beijing, Bombay, Paris or countless other major international cities if you show up at a five-star nightclub wearing shorts and a t-shirt you will probably be refused admittance, it's not racism, it's a simple fact of life. Why would Jakarta should be any different?

I did notice a few weeks ago two UK guys carrying their drunk friend and entering X2. Jeans, t-shirt and drunk for them was ok. Can't say I wasn't bothered by "bad stereotype advertizing".
Personally I often prefer to go 2day unshaved as I seem to have more luck with the girls.
On a side note I had some girls who said they actually liked the indonesian awefull looking chinbeard or ugly mustache on some locals. Not to mention the occasional long nails.

So you should have no problems in Classic / Malioboro / BATS / CJs / Tiga Puluh / X2 / Red Square provided you're not a total mess. You may however find it stricter in certain clubs like Dragonfly. Generally your luck will be better if you dress at least half decently.

Cheapest date: just about zero (I still give the minimum of chocolates). Most expensive date: 4 Million rupiahs plus shopping (she was regular and it wasn't every time that we went shopping or went out like that. Nice restaurant plus out for drinks and clubbing). My average date cost is around 200-500k depending on the person and the restaurant we go to.
Incidentally, if you do have a date, it's a hell of a lot cheaper going out for drinks and clubbing in Kemang rather than in BATS / CJs etc. Places like Dragonfly will kill your budget. The "normal" clubs are generally cheaper than the FL clubs for drinks but just check before you walk in. A simple indicator being the price of a bottle of vodka: if it's around 2 million and up, then you know the drinks are going to slaughter you. I think the club in Crowne Plaza (Retro?) is cheaper but not an FL joint last time I went. I don't dare comment on the price of drinks further than that as it's not really my area of expertise (although I've fallen prey to buying the odd Long Island for a girl here and there). If in doubt. Or you're lazy to read and take in the advice here. Seek the services of JAD.

I've stayed at the JW Marriott a few times, it's a nice hotel and the restaurant's evening buffet is a bargain; breakfast is included in the room price and is also good. And yes, you'll impress the ladies when they find out you are staying there, that's one reason why it always pays to stay in a decent hotel in Jakarta (instead of staying in a backpacker-type place on Jalan Jaksa).
Not surprised to read that you are finding numerous divorced / separated Indonesian women who are in their 20s.

Last night I went to D's Place in Jl. Felatehan in Jakarta just to have a few drinks and chat up a barmaid. Meanwhile I took a good look (very pleasant) at the dancing crew. At least four of the young ones have accompanied me to the VIP-room on various occasions, one of them twice and the second time I fucked her. Quite possible, because these idiots had been busy in Jakarta all day, blocking traffic on the Sudirman which caused a tailback all the way to Harmoni. Never saw anything like it. They probably went looking for an easy target after that.
There was nothing in the Jakarta Post this morning about a bomb scare. Will ask in J. Pelatehan.

While it's tempting to ignore you, I'll respond with some info. If you read the post by Koperen Karel that's located just two posts down from yours, you're quickly learn that "D's Place" is a bar on Jalan Faletehan (Jalan means Street) in the Blok M part of Jakarta (south of downtown, north of the Kemang area). This street has several bars where young (and a few not-so-young) freelance ladies will vie for your attention and money.
You can also pick up free lance girls at some 5-star-hotel bars, such as the BATS bar at the Shangri-La, the Tiga Puluh bar at Hotel Le Meridien, the bar at Hotel Mulia and others. The girls working these bars tend to charge more than the Blok M girls; however, oftentimes, the same girl who's asking for 2 million rupiah at BATS at 10 pm can be found later in the evening at D's Place or one of the other bars on that street, willing to settle for a much lower amount of money, such as 500,000 or 600,000 rupiah.
You can also find girls by mall-hunting. RTFF for more info or check out some old posts by esteemed Senior Member Bulai69 (they are referred to in a post under "Reports of Distinction")
Price inflation is becoming an issue. Please don't overpay, but also don't be a cheap Charlie and expect that the girls will go home for pennies.
Having said that, several posts here discuss "freebies" found on IndoCupid or similar web dating sites. RTFF and youll learn more.
And don't dismiss the massage places. Every man deserves at least once in their life a 2-girl full-body massage at Kartika Spa, one alley south of the interesection of Jalan Manggga Besar and Jalan Hayam Wurk in the northern part of town. Was at CJ's bar in the Mulia Hotel yesterday. (Thursday) started to get pretty crowded around 23h00. A pretty good amount of girls avaiilable and quality ranged from 5-8 on a scale of 1-10. As I left D's yesterday evening I took a Bluebird (ordered by phone) and as we left he went against the one-way traffic direction. When I asked why the driver told me the street was closed off by police because of a bomb warning in Oscars. He blamed FPI for this.

Both bars are closed since some time now, I believe. The atmosphere was pretty relaxed, in typical Indonesian style. Everybody smiling. The guys sitting outside on the terrace of the Falatehan hotel, next to Oscars, just remained there during the scare, happy chatting and finishing their drinks. Hehe. I didn't have that much nerve.

Short report: just wanted to let you know, that the Mulia Hotel, if you can afford it, is a good albeit expensive choice. Very good quality rooms, service etc. And girl friendly. Of course it has CJ's bar at the M level, which opens around 19h00 (things get going around 22h30) and closes around 03h00. Last night (Friday) CJ was really busy, some 300 people I guess, with 1/3rd being girls. ST starts at 1M rupiahs. (1 hour or if you neg. 1.5). So it's a bit expensive.
Alternative: take a blue cherry taxi to Blok-M where price is about half or less. The taxi will cost about 25, 000 Rupiah from Mulia. See my other report on Blok-M for more details.

Blok-M is a section of Jakarta which has some reasonably good night life, if you know how to find it. So here are my findings. Blok-M can be reached from most major hotels in JK within 10-20 minutes, in the evening, if traffic is normal. Take a Blue Cherry or Express taxi. Price to get there should be between 20-40K. (from the city center that is). Other taxi's can not be trusted, they will try to rip you and ask double or more.
Blok-M is an older part of town, but yet very lively. The street to try out is the Jalan Falatehan, in Blok-M. Any taxi will be able to find it. This street has a small number of bars with WG's. Just check them all out. Best time: starting 22h00 on Fri / Sat / Sun. I liked Top-Gun and D's but others can be good too. In the clubs which have dancing girls (definitely the best looking ones) , you can't take those out, usually. They can do some stuff (BJ) in a backroom, but ask 300K for 15 minutes, so forget about it. Some of them may be willing to go to your hotel after midnight, after the dancing is over. The non-dancing girls so to say, are the ones to look for. ST (2-3 hours) can be had for 500K. That's the going price at this moment (2013). Not bad I think. Dunno about LT, but guess that maxes out at 1M. I was able to find a nice WG for 500K. Please also give 'm something for the taxi back. Now IMHO some 40-50 Euro's for 2 hours of fun is good stuff. Indonesia isn't Thailand, but comes closer than I thought.
Melawi Hotel.
Next option, is to go to the Melawi Hotel in Blok-M. The place is pretty run down, but still OK. They have a nightclub bar at level 6. You can walk into the hotel and take the elevator to floor 6. They don't stay open very late. Their opening times are 17h00 to 23h30. But around 18h00 a good number of WG's were there. (10-20) Quality was OK to good. (mostly 6, but some 7 and 2 8's. ST is 1 hour and you pay 500K. Take a shower together (they'll wash you) and off you go. No problems with DATY, BBBJ etc. Service was good. One of them (Irma) even gave very good service. Treat her nice please.

At level 2 the Melawi hotel has a small massage place. 250K for 1 hour of regular oil massage. I was not so impressed by how the place looked. The Hotel also has an ATM in the lobby, so that can be convenient.
SAMAYA massage, blok-M.
A far better option for massage can be found right across the street! If you like to relax between your mongering activities, Go to the SAMAYA Reflexology and Spa which is 50 meters across the Melawi Hotel. Really good massage for an excellent price. 1 hour foot massage costs 50K. (4 Euro!) 90 minutes body massage costs 120K. (so that's less than 10 Euro.) Recommended. Just do take into account that the masseur may actually be a man. Again, this is regular massage, but really good. At those price you want to give the masseur a tip, if you think the massage was good. I gave 50.
Other Blok-M stuff:
There may be more to do in Blok-M, but I was happy with the 2 things I explored. Not up to the quality level of Bangkok (Soi Cowboy, Nana etc. Etc.) , but certainly worthwhile to try out. Will I repeat: yes.

Yes inflation. Most of the time I work a different market or am with gf's, but going out regularly in Jakarta, I can see a price hike that has taken hold in the last 3-4 years and mostly in South Jakarta. Although prices in Maribaya have remained pretty stable, looking at the ST asking prices. Correct me if I am wrong, for blok M it went up from 300k to 500k. And in the five star bars (CJ's, BATS) from 500k to 1 million.
Especially the 1 million, crazy stuff. Comparing to what's paid as a monthly minimum wage, those look tourist prices. Bali price. You're in Jakarta, but they treat you if you were wearing flip-flops and a loud Hawaii shirt.
Above Thamrin, in Jakarta North, prices have remained much more stable. Eg. Berlian, Kartika 350 ST. Likewise, Atrium Mall, Jalan Jaksa. 300k ST. Even the tiny 5 star bar in the Aryaduta, the Tavern, the prices have remained pretty much the same. 500k ST. Goes recommended BTW, if you're staying in the Aryaduta, take the signature club. Free drinks and canapes at happy hour. The resident ayam in the Tavern are great. Pretty girls, that dress, behave and look gorgeous.

Maybe the dosage is lower in the knockoffs, but it doesn't seem to be a major issue.

- Sorry you had to wait so long for a cab. Next time take Silver Bird instead of Blue Bird, it's the slightly higher priced branch of the Blue Bird Companies. The fare may be 15-20, 000 rupiah higher, but there's never a long line, the car's more comfortable and the drivers usually speak better English.

75k rupi with the taximeter. The driver asks for 90k, I give him.Unless you personally paid the tolls along the way, he's asking for more than the meter because of tolls and airport fee. I think they pay 8,000 rupiah airport fee (they usually present the receipt to you as you enter the taxi) and the toll is like 12 or 15,000.

- there used to be some ATMs between the immigration counters and the baggage carousels, too bad if they are not still there.If you exit to the left after Immigration (the main block of desks for Indonesians and KITAS, Diplomats etc) after a few meters on your right there is an ATM gallery of sorts. As far as taxi charges go there is an airport surcharge which varies slightly depending on destination. The person sorting the taxi, I. E. A Bluebird representative will give you a card which details the charge. Around 10, 000 IDR so you need to add that plus the toll charge if the drive paid direct.
On the subject of taxis, you won't come unstuck if you take an Express, Gamya, Taxiku from the airport. All those trips are logged and meters used etc. You may have communication issues though in terms of English.

Bartele (the original Bule Gila) later started Eastern Promise on Jl. Kemang Raya. A successful bar annex restaurant that is popular among expats of various nationalities. He later sold part of his interest in the bar to another Dutchman, who is very good at running a bar. I was there yesterday and plan on going again this evening (om het af te leren). Bartele also started the Kazbar in the Central Business District and also has an art gallery.

On my second day I go to the bar in Sparks hotel, tonight they have dancers. The sitting area is really dark, imposssible to get a good look on the ladies asking for LDs there. So I move on to the infamous club Stadium. It's not far from my hotel, but the streets of Jakarta is really tiresome to walk, so I go by taxi. Also this time the Bluebird charges the minimum amount of 30k, but I found out that they not always do this, even from a hotel. An alternative is to get a cab from another company and then negotiate the price, usually that means 20k for a short trip. Anyway, when I get to Stadium I become surprised, it's smaller and more "normal" than expected. In fact it's neither that interesting nor dangerous as some say. Can this be the right place? Maybe it's some kind of copy? No, it is the original, it has the four floors as I have heard about: The 4th has the disco, I arrive at 11 pm on a weekday, so few people there. CC is 50k including a drink. The mamasans push their girls. On the 3rd floor the girls push themselves. Here they dance topless also, really sexy girls here. The best floor, but watch out for the LDs, I buy one for 50k, then the waitress arrives with a tray with very small glasses. The girl empties the glass quickly and the waitress asks "one more?". Down in that area it is hard to find a trustworthy taxi. IMHO bluebird / Pulski or express are equally trustworthy. Express is the White cabs with an E on the top.
Stadium, I also was there recently for the first time. (Well had done the hotel a few times and the strip show) It was my first for the club scene. I was not impressed. Smaller crowd and mostly guys. I was there on a Sat. Night from 1130 until 330am and the only attention I got was from the working girls. I did see pills passed and popped plus many kids stoned out of their mind.
Not worth my time for another trip.

The third day I relocate to Blok M. At 10 pm I go to investigate Jalan Falatehan. The first impression is not good, the street is dark and quiet. To early, I guess. The only bar with a lot of activity is D's. A few dancers on stage, some pretty, but as I have understood it from posts on this forum they are not for take-out. I don't usually give 30, 000, but at least 5, 000 over the meter price is normal. And taxi drivers outside clubs and bars always expect a bit more. Blue Bird drivers usually don't say anything if you just give them the metered fare, but they won't be very happy. The others are likely to demand it up front.
EDIT: Hehe. I just saw Hilo77's post. Fair enough, but a little bit of thought to the logistics of the operations doesn't go astray. Paying a small tip enables me to think less about taxis and keeps my interactions with them down to a minimum. And I don't care about the color of the taxi, but avoiding really bad ones reduces hassles too. A general rule of thumb is that taxis that are in crappy condition have crappy drivers.

I'm based in Thailand and the difference between this board and ours is significant. Over the years the value of our posts has eroded significantly. Much of that, certainly not all, is because some members like to criticize other people's posts as not being a valid contribution. Like how to deal with the taxis. I very much appreciate reading the details so I know how it works when I return. I've been there only 3 times in the past few years but dropped in to catch up on the scene as it is today. Keep up the good work guys, I think this forum is basically a good example of how we should be doing it.

Then it's on to finding a taxi, the Bluebird line is long, I wait more than half an hour. (Next time I will take the Damri bus.) Finally I get a taxi, it's just half an hour and 75k rupi with the taximeter. The driver asks for 90k, I give him.I suppose he payed the toll for you.
Last trip I went upstairs again (the departures level / which has 4 different atm's on each side iirc). I walked to the end on the left as there are less people, no cops this time and lots of place for a taxi to stop and pull over. The drivers, mostly bluebirds, look at you and check if you signal in the Indonesian way. I never get really used to that waiving style. I open the trunk (driver stays seated) , throw in my baggage, get in and drive off. No waiting cues (2 seconds for a taxi. 20 seconds if you are picky) , no airport charge, just the metered price + toll. It is a huge bonus already that they can take someone back from the airport. As bluebirds get payed bonuses for an active day and have more chance for another tip.
If the airport security / guidance guys whistle the driver explained courtesy is that they drop 2000 IDR as a thank you gift.
Does anyone know if there is a massage service (other then just the foot reflexology) somewhere in the airport?

The point is that bluebird / pulski and express are usually the cabs that are the safest to use. They have been cases of fake taxis. You walk in and are trapped inside with no door handles. Be safe and be smart.

I have had drivers get lost in order to boost the fare. Those were bluebird as well.Although it does happen, I usually get just the opposite. The drivers almost always want to take the route that will be the shortest drive and cheapest fare. I normally have to re-direct them to take the long way around since the long way around may have a higher fare, but it's faster due to traffic. I'd prefer paying a little more than sitting in that damn traffic for an hour just to save a buck or two. When I ask them why they want to take the route with the most traffic (and ask them if they are crazy to want to be stuck in that traffic) , they normally tell me that they didn't want me to get angry because they took the long way to avoid traffic because the meter would be higher.
Then again, there are some taxi drivers who ask "you want to go tollway" to get to places you can get to faster than without taking the tollway. Those guys can go screw themselves and are likely suggesting that to jack up the fare. It's a rare occasion where taking the tollway in a taxi to go anywhere within Jakarta other than the airport is a smart idea.
You need to avoid the beat up taxis that wait outside the discos at 4am, but I do think that overall, taxis in Jakarta are more honest than any other city I've ever been in. And the prices are cheap other than the Silverbirds.

I'm thinking of doing a short trip to Jakarta (out of Singapore) between August 14 and 17, and noticed that the 17th will be Independence Day. Any thoughts on how that might impact the days I am considering as far as venues being open, or anything else like lodging / transportation?
Also, will girls be back from their Ramadan travels by then?
I've been to Jakarta twice, and may consider Phnom Penh as an alternative since I have never been there. Any input comparing the two places would be welcome as well.

Stadium (5 min walk) , Crown (10 min walk) and Mangga Besar and its delights of Travel hotel is just round the corner. Malioboro and Classic are not far away too so you could say this is the ideal hotel for sampling the nightlife of Jakarta.

You can look for Fortune Spa to the left to Meridien. Meaning, when you look out of the entrance of Meridien, it will be on the left. 2 minutes walk. Ask for a selection. And remember, the service providers are nowhere as hot as the hostesses. Would have loved to bone those!

AngeloJust remember that its Ramadan time when you are in Jakarta and its quite likely that most of the places including Fortune is closed. Check and better to delay your plans till August 15 or so if possible in my opinion. Me, I try best to avoid Jakarta during the fasting season.

As you stated Mercure Kota, this is excellently placed for nightlife activities. Stadium (5 min walk) , Crown (10 min walk) and Mangga Besar and its delights of Travel hotel is just round the corner. Malioboro and Classic are not far away too so you could say this is the ideal hotel for sampling the nightlife of Jakarta.Haggis Man,
That was the Mecure Resko at Mangga besar I stay there many time but it is a bit run down now, there are another one only 1 miles down the road at Hayum Wuruk near Malioboro is the Grand Mecure open last yr at Harmoni much nicer room around 75 USD a night.

Quite a few PRC to choose from at King's Cross Kelapa Gading at 1 million a shot.I went to KC last night around 8pm. Large choice to choose with around 50 locals and perhaps 10 PRC. The price for local is above 400k including room, the PRC will cost from 800k to 1, 1jt (for the younger ones) including room. 1) hotel bars are usually not required to close, but may operate under tighter regulation. for example, they may close a bit earlier than usual.
2) brothels in kota will usually be shut until about one week after idul fitri.
3) blok m clubs may or may not be open, although they probably will be. as with point one, they may shut earlier than usual.
4) some warung and restaurants will be shut during the day, but many will be open.
5) some girls will refrain from having sex during daylight hours.
6) freelancers will still be looking for clients, but may adopt alternative marketing methods (such as ringing up old clients and telling them how much they miss them).
7) the whole city will become deathly quiet in the week before and up to and following idul fitri, with large numbers of girls and other useful members of society returning to their rural homelands.

Most kota places provided they will come under the name of a hotel, like alexis or malioboro will be open, however it depends how the area of kota has closed it deals with the local mafia be it the preman from Ambon or the cops. So kemang can be subject of the FPI mafia raids as kota is prone to the police raids. Central Jakarta area is worry free pretty much controlled by police who is not really fuzzy but caution is still required. Some stand alone bars and restaurants like Lanna Thai & Hazara are open and attract a good foreigner crowd thirsty for alcohol and fun.

I don't agree with that and think it's misleading for guys considering visiting Jakarta during Ramadhan. It's not as easy to get chicks during Ramadhan. You can still get them, but it's not as easy. If your sole source of girls is dating sites and mall hunting then you won't notice as much difference as you will if you like going to the great variety of "massage" places and discos. But Ramadhan does hinder things, especially as it gets closer to idul fitri since the girls go home to their village and the city empties out.I don't mean picking up girls from clubs or bars because the bars have tighter opening hours and there will be less girls visiting during Ramadhan (I believe?) but I mean scoring girls from the mall or the internet, I see no difference, actually I am getting more action these first few Ramadhan weeks then I was getting before Ramadhan.
I never go to a club to pick up girls, just not to my liking, I rarely visit a club and if I do I never bring a girl home, I am mostly accompanied by a girl anyway.

I did this kind of hunting activity few times. If the girl appears attractive / nice attitude in someway, I fall in love with her. For sure, even the girl said looking for serious relatioship doesn't actually like serious at all.
This makes me in a bad condition.

This questions might be silly. Unfortunately for me, it happens routinely. It makes me kind of uncomfortable.Falling in love is the biggest mistake you can possibly make. If you fall in love with an Indonesian girl (any girl really) you are like putty in her hands and she will use and abuse you any way she sees fit. Actually many girls will leave you right away if they sense you are needy or head over heels in love with them because it turns them off big time.
You just got to act like the MAN. That is what girls want. You got to be cool in any situation and you got to be cool with her. Just act like you don't need her and you have scores of other girls waiting for you. I always show my new girls my whatsapp list of pretty girls (about 30 now) and it makes them only more interested in me. Girls really love bad boys and Indonesian girls love them even more. Be confident, be cool and be funny, be an allround nice person to be around with and the girls will come with you almost without any exception, even the ones that are initially not into you, they will change their mind and come with you.
Also when you are with a girl for instance in a cafe or whatever, talk to the other people around you too, don't only focus on her, show her that you can talk and joke with anybody and she will think, wow that guy is fun, I cannot wait to check out his spring bed later.
My god I should not be giving all these advices, believe me most of the regulars on this forum know exactly what I am talking about because they do this every day.

I guess you consider your time not to be worth anything. It takes time to scour the internet dating sites and send message after message to a girl to get her to meet you. The reason I don't prefer the dating sites is that it is time consuming. I prefer just to go to the bar or massage place and pick out a girl. I resort to the same way as you do. For non-pro, sometimes they fall in love with me (don't know is real or not) , sometimes amazingly I fall in love with them!

In jakarta, p4p provides the best among the best to me. It justs doesn't deliver some sort of excitement on hunting. Otherwise, p4p is simply awesome.
I've been watching the posts here about pay vs non-pay. You probably end up paying at least as much for dating-site civilians as for P4P once you add up the taxi money, gifts, meals / drinks, whatever. So its not a money-based decision for me. In my case its about do I want to know what I'm getting or take a chance on the marketplace.
I have had my profile up on IndoCupid for about 6 weeks. I have almost 400 incoming expressions of Interest. Yes, some are howlers. But I'd say 60% are do-able and half of those are 7-9. Challenge is location, because INDO is so huge, many are too far for me to get to from where I would be.
I was in Medan for 3 days and Jakarta for 4 days in June, and am coming back to Jakarta in late July. I did all my work in advance on the IndoCupid site. Only had a little free time in Medan so I only lined up one 26 year old, but she was very hot and gave great GFE for 2 overnights. Total damage 300, 000 taxi money, some inexpensive shared room service food, and $40 USD cash for "her family".
