I'm not sure, but there may have even been a requirement of a passport and an Indonesian ID. Card if one were an expat foreigner.
I was a bit skeptical (although we also have a report here in this thread of some similar actions by immigration taken outside one of the Novotel hotels recently). I did some internet research, and did stumble on a forum that essentially describes what my friend described, although the raid mentioned there was in June or late May. I had totally opposite experience on two occasions back to back, I was recently in Jakarta and based on my experience the places which are old are better then the newer ones like in case of Alexis. I found Alexis girls to be arrogant and had to bolt out of that place within few minutes!

Following the interesting post about the excessive tip seeking of staff at places like Classic I had a couple of experiences in the past few days that have really made me change my attitude to tipping and service standards.
Previously I would have been free with the tips, I worked in my youth in the service industry and I know what a difference tips can make, not just to a server's income but also to his or her standards of service. Usually you tip taxi guys, and traffic guys 20 cents or less for hailing a cab, or opening a door etc. Tipping is purely optional, but these people work in a 3rd world country where the government doesn't do enough to support them, and they make around $100-200 a month to survive on. If you are an expat who can't afford to give 20 cents here and there to a taxi guy, I think that is really low pathetic, not Smooth at all. In response to the real point, I see it broken down into 2 issues: 1. The service you received, and 2. The price you paid. 1. Service is always YMMV with any girl, but I find I get better service when you try the be playful, relaxed, charming, and engaged with the girl, and yes looks and age are a factor. If you can speak the language that helps too. With some girls you can be more assertive and initiate more contact, so that is worth a try also next time. If you have stiff body language and not smiling (not saying you acted that way) the girls don't react well and you may get worse service. However, you were there and I wasn't there to see it. If he was able to negotiate the agreed upon price to something lower, and you felt slighted by this, maybe you can try this and let us know if this works. I think if he 'agreed' to pay for 10 shots, and than later said he's only paying for 6, that the girl or management would take that very well.

On my third drink I got fed up with being ignored so up and went to the other room with a live band, left when the singer started murdering I Can't Live if Living is Without You, came back in the big room and this time sat down stairs. I've been digging around for a few weeks now for my first trip to Jakarta. The trip will only be a few days.
I have some work to take care of in Kemang, South Jakarta, but obviously want to hit these spots in the North.
From what I hear about the famous traffic. Am I just screwed, and looking at hours each way to get up there from Kemang?
I'm wondering if I should just take care of my business on the south and totally uproot myself to a hotel in the North, rather than waste so much dough and time bouncing south to north. Advisable?
Been reading of price jumps for Classic and the like.
Honestly, since spending so much time in China, I've taken a liking to Spas.
How are they? Sands? Orchards? Comfort? So much to choose from.
Is Kotah Indah worth hitting as a foreigner?

Whenever I have been stuck working in South Jakarta, I don't fight it and try to go up north because it's not logistically sensible due to the traffic and the fact that I have to be up at the crack of dawn to go to work again. These days you don't really have to go up there anyway. There are plenty of good places in South Jakarta now, they just aren't quite as cheap as up north (but still reasonable). By the time you pay for the taxi to go up north, the overall price is about the same anyway.
Go to Grand Wijaya center. It is very close to Kemang. It has plenty of good spas and you can get full service there with young girls just like you would up North. D'Heaven spa is the newest one there (open about 4 months now) and does a full nude massage (they take their clothes off the second the door is closed), the massage is good and the rooms are nice, and that is followed by full sex at the end. It wouldn't be a bad idea to simply go to D'Heaven every evening. Hell, I used to drive all the way up to Kelapa Gading to go to it! The girls are not anywhere near as good looking as the ones at Grand Wijaya, but the service is the best in Jakarta. Of all of the places up North you mentioned, the only one possibly worth venturing away from Grand Wijaya to hit would be Alexis. That is a different animal. When you are looking for options on a limited budget, you need to say where your hotel will be located. There are many many many options in Jakarta, Hotel Classic is by far the best option.
I would avoid Blok M and Maribaya at all costs, unless you like Old women in their 50's.

Was staying at Hotel Santika Premiere. During an evening walk along Jalan Mangga Besar Raya, visited the Lokasari Plaza in search for some restaurants for a good meal. Saw lots of girls around that area. Some were doable and asking IDR 300,000 for ST in near by hotel called 'transit hotel' which charges IDR 100,000 for an hour or so. None could speak English except one who was quite fluent but a little plump.

After your visit, you might be able to write a book on how to visit Jakarta as cheap as humanly possible. Your only mistake was going to a place where girls are 330 k. Classic Bunker is closer to Jalan Jaksa and the girls are only 300 k. Easier to get a gojek from there too. By going to bunker, you could have almost saved enough for another bus ride back to the airport. It's just a damn shame that Kalijodo is closed now, you could have gotten some action for 185 k. You might want to try the Ruko Robinson area, you can break the 300 k barrier there.
However, if going as cheap as possible is your goal, Bali is probably a better choice than Jakarta.

Whiz Prime Hotel Kelapa Gading is on Jalan Boulevard Barat Raya near Mall of Indonesia. The Grand Whiz Hotel on Jalan Raya Gading Kirana is nearer to the'Heaven Hotel and Spa.

Hotel Alexis: wasn't too interested in their lounge, so headed straight to their 7th floor bathhouse. Entry was 140 k, which gets waived off if you take a girl. Place gets crowded really quick, and you might end up sharing a couch with other folks. Mamasans are generally non-pushy and pretty helpful. Selection-wise, it's like a fucking UN conference in there. Locals, Chinese, Thais, Vietnamese and a couple of CIS girls as well. Was quoted a little over 1 million for locals and 2 for imports. Picked a hot Chinese girl despite mamasan's recommendation of Viets. In hindsight, should've listened to her. I was there last week, and the prices were different - 500 K for all-in massage plus tip. Might price differently on different days. My VIP room had a shower big enough for both girl and me. I'm not sure what time it opens, so I don't know if you can go there during the day for a drink (I never drink during the day so I couldn't tell you a good place to grab a drink during the day), however, I know it's open by 10 pm and as soon as you go in, you can turn to the left and go in the quiet bar side. That's normally where I go when I am at CJs. It's more quiet and the chairs are much more comfortable than the ones in the main area.

Of all the places in Jakarta to choose, I find it bizarre that you would choose Emporivm spa over any other. I don't think the quality there is as good as many other places in town. It's a good place, but to single that particular place out is a bit odd in my opinion.
They do accept International Cards from the USA. I have no idea if they accept them from India.
As I was staying in the Grogol area for a few days I decided to check out Medika Bar on Daan Mogot especially as it was reported that it might of been renovated / improved or something happened. At best IMHO it might of gotten a good dusting or a semi cleaning and that's it. But anyway left early around 530 pm and did see a total of around 35 girls show up for work who are available from 320 k to 360 k. Definitely nothing approaching a semi stunner could be found and left me desiring to flee back to FM1 to try my luck there. At least with FM1 the rooms are better that Classic / Hotel Travel. As I didn't take a girl from Medika I can only guess how the rooms are and would hazard a guess that maybe on the Pen J high side. Definitely nothing at Medika to make one go out of his way to get there. At least with the nearby FM1 you do get a b'Fashion type environment and a chance of getting a stunner for 275 K. On past visits that has happened to me but not this trip.

Try that place late at night around 11 pm. It's a place similar to Milles where the trippers go. It's rocking late at night. For me, it's far away, so I rarely go. I do like one of the girls who dances there on occasion though so I do visit her sometimes. If you are near there, it's a decent option. I would never stay in that area though, so I wouldn't recommend to anyone that they stay at a hotel near there unless they have to for work.

Well, I was kind of sure that there exists only one Emporium in Jakarta that is famous and mostly has all positive reviews only, in this Forum.
But it seems there's more to it. Jakarta100 Bars website tells me there are 2 Emporium Spas in the city and Google Maps suggest they are located about 2. 5 Kms apart from each other.
Now, Which one of these two is the one that regulars here are all praises about?

As to Kalijodo, there are a couple of mitigating factors in terms of extrapolating to the entire hobby. So, I ticked off all the 3 places I had narrowed down on, over the course of last one week. Overall, All 3 visits turned out to be worth the buck.

Alexis: I had been in two minds about this place for a long time but finally decided to go ahead. I usually don't like places that are perennially crowded and have the feel of a "Market". A lot of what I read about Alexis gave me the sense of this "Market" feel and one specific report here that mentioned the place getting filled real soon and often times resulting in you struggling for place to sit with others on the same couch, terrified me. (This is the reason I never fancied a visit to places like Hotel Classic). I chose a weekday evening therefore, and I think that helped. Was not sure whether I would get the Imports I was looking for that day but thankfully I cracked Jackpot. Went straight to the Bathhouse. Asked for the Viets and was presented one. Fantastic experience, The DFK and Oral sex part stood out the most here compared to the other two places I visited. Not sure about locals or other foreign imports offered but I can most certainly vouch for the Viets. It is definitely very expensive compared to other joints in the city but I felt it worth an experience. Overall damages were 2 m plus but I would recommend a visit here for everyone travelling to Jakarta at least once.
So, I ticked off all the 3 places I had narrowed down on, over the course of last one week. Overall, All 3 visits turned out to be worth the buck.
Key learning: If you are going to try out locals, better brush up on your Bahasa. I assumed at least the common English words would be easily understood but that was not the case. The only let down was the effort it took to communicate. (However little that part may be)...Nice report, detailed and concise with very good intel. Thanks.
Emporium: This place is worth all the hype it generates. Wonderful ambiance, very friendly staff and plenty of variety on the menu to choose from. I had thought of trying out Imports here but found the local chick more appealing. I have read from another member here how the imports did not seem as Interested as the locals here and found it to be surprisingly true. There was no eye contact or smiles from the Imports but the local appeared Inviting right from the outset.I don't know how you figure Emporium gets a lot of hype. It's only been mentioned on here a few times in the last 20 years. I have only been there twice myself and I have never given a report on the place here. Maybe you are finding it getting a lot of hype on some other forum. I have zero interest in spending a half hour in the pool with a girl prior to sex, so I don't find that aspect to be a big benefit. Even at Alexis, I skip that part. The girls just end up worrying about getting their makeup and hair wet. Emporivm is a good place to visit (just like many places in Jakarta), but I wouldn't say it has a lot of hype. If you like it though and think it's worth the money, that's great. They have some good special events there on occasion.
As far as the imports not giving eye contact or smiles, I think that depends on who you are and which imports you are talking about. As a white guy, I notice that the Uzbek girls will normally smile at me a lot more than they will smile at an Indian or Chinese guy. Vietnamese girls are every bit as friendly as locals, if not more so. Same with Thai. Chinese girls do seem to be more indifferent. I watch them, and they are mostly like that even with the Chinese guys, but they will smile more for a Chinese guy than they will for others. Those Chinese girls many times can't speak either English or Bahasa Indonesia so I think they should actually be cheaper than locals. In my opinion, the locals are much better value for money regardless.
At D'Heaven, the girl will specifically ask you if you want SHIATSU or not before she does it. Shiatsu is the type of massage where they walk on your back. I personally love Shiatsu so I always tell them yes. If you don't want them to walk on your back, just say "tidak mau shiatsu" and they will focus on only the normal massage.
I do find that the Vietnamese chicks usually do provide good service relative to the other chicks in these places. When they can speak some English. Of course, there are some good ones and bad ones of every type of girl so that is not a blanket statement. I have had some Vietnamese girls who spoke no English who where good, but some who were horrible. In my opinion, Alexis is over priced so I haven't been there in probably 5 years. But the girls there are nice looking.
It's tough being stuck in South Jakarta when you are looking for that kind of action.

Last Monday, went to BATS at 11 ish and it was half full with customers and a few FLs.
The ratio of male customers to FLs was about 2:1 and no pretty to me as well as they were not young so as soon as finish my drink I moved to CJ's.
One bad point of Shangrila hotel is that it takes time to catch bulebird taxis so after waiting for 20 minutes I took Silver bird and the fare was about 70 K. (the minimum charge is 50 K).
At CJs, yesterday's band was Indonesian which was different from Sat. Sun (Western) and this band was also good.
There were also not so many FLs and most of them were not young enough so after having about 5 times circulation of the club I decided to grab one young girl who was not that pretty, but looked innocent and newbie to this professional industry.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but also where you look is very important too in arriving at one's final opinion. I find Jakarta girls equally as attractive as Thai girls and on average slightly better looking than Filipinas. This is taking into account the face and the body of the girls. I have to admit that I like the exotic sultry look that many Jakarta girls possess along with their slim yet slightly more endowed SE Asian physiques. Now to be fair in my comparison, I am only talking about ladies of the night found at certain similar quality venues in roughly the same price range across 3 different cities. So I am comparing roughly the top 10% or so of working girls at each venue with all the girls roughly in the $90 to $150 price range. Mangos to mangos as it were. Perhaps I would have a different opinion if I were comparing LA Cafe girls to Classic girls to Soi 24 massage girls. LOL.
Now judging personality and performance of my girls in and out of bed is another matter. I know some great girls in all 3 cities. It depends on the type girl you select. I prefer the dancers because they are the sexiest and friendliest girls in the place. The imports seem half-baked and lifeless to me. The harem girls of which some are cute and doable, are just not as hot or as lively as the dancers. IMHO, there is no comparison. Other punters are free to have different opinions. That about covers the available Malioboro selection.
Two more things:
1. the Malioboro dancers operate more like Go Go girls than sauna girls, so buying them a Tequila or two and test driving the girl ie kissing her and fondling / kissing her ta ta's before deciding to take her upstairs is my preferred MO. As far as I know, 30 minutes jacuzzi is an option which you can choose.
If you wish to go to the room directly you can do, which makes you have 90 minutes time in the room.
As you know, normally people spend about 35 40 minutes for shower, boom boom and get dressed so 90 minutes should be 2 pops considering the price as well. At least in my opinion.

You have to negotiate with the mamasan up front. This applies to all of the brothels in Jakarta when it comes to 2 shots. If you tell the mamasan that you want 2 shots, she will likely direct you to a girl who will agree to that. She will then confirm with the girl and make sure she is going to take care of you. At least that is what I used to do back in the day when I could get off 2 shots in that amount of time. After she picks my girl, I would tell the mamasan that if I do get 2 shots, I will give the mamasan a tip on the way out. If I don't get 2 shots, I won't. There wasn't one time ever that a mamasan gave me a girl guaranteeing 2 shots where I did not get 2 shots off. Now I don't even worry about it because I am one and done. I just pick the hottest girl. As a matter of fact, it's more likely that I will not spend the full time in the room and will leave fairly soon after I have shot my load. Not because the girl is forcing me to do that, but because it's my preference. Day two visited Classic and Terminal 2. This was a place I really enjoyed and ended up buying a few lady drinks to one of the dancers and then tried two girls. Clean and nice rooms even if a bit small. The mamasans are pushy and will constantly ask you to take girls, you just have to reject and be direct if you simply want to enjoy your drink. Good mix with dancing and music on stage. Prices here are reasonable and the quality of the girls in general good (all depends on the eyes looking.). I spent about 600 k in drinks and lady drinks (which are cheap compared to e. G. Malioboro) and then girls are flat 350 or 550 (1 or 2). I opted for only one but two times Visited CJ after this but it was no good this night. A lot of people but not like it used to be before.
Day three time to try out Malioboro where I have been before. Went straight to the club. Here the girls as before are really pushy for lady drinks and will drink them as if they were coca cola. 55 k a drink. You need to be really straight forward if you don't want to buy drinks. I did not try the girls which goes for 900 k locals but have to admit I spent some money on lady drinks. After I headed over to Bats and within 5 minutes I met a girl of my choice. Agreed to bring here back for 1. 5 for the night (which is the absolute highest I have paid for a LT in Jakarta). She was certainly value for money.
As I tend to do when I meet someone nice I keep them for a few days so I kept the girl for two other nights. Went to Skybar (Skye) for a few drinks but crowded and limited seats. This was Saturday so we were up for a party and went to Bats where we met another guy and toghether we brought three girls to Immigrants right after midnight. That was a hell of a party and lasted until they closed at 5 am. Sure you can have fun with these girls if you are up for it.
Next day planned to just stay in hotel but destiny wanted it different. Ended up in Illigals KTV together with another guy from the hotel and the same girl. He also brought a girl, first time I have actually brought a girl to KTV. But anyway great fun and prices in Illigals is reasonable for KTV including drinks and food.

During that time many PFP venues close, some open with limited hours and staff, many people go home for Eid and to make things worse, food options are limited as well.
Not sure whether there's a best time, Jakarta is a mess year-round.

This is pretty dependent on how long you will be there and why. If you are o a business trip then you need to be close to where you will be working, otherwise it depends on what you want to do. If taking freelancers back to your room is your thing then you should stay near the pick-up places.
