That's an understatement. I've sampled many of the girls there at maribaya - including Ety. Ety isn't all that new since she's been there a couple of months. However, she is far from Bulai's type. I'm not saying your suggestion of Ayu or Ety or Sari or Sella or any other girl aren't good ones. But there are others that are just as good (in my opinion), so I wouldn't want the members to think they have to go there and ask for any particular girl. The only one I can think of that would fall into that category would be Lusi from the day shift a while ago. She was something quite special since she had the biggest tits in the history of Jakarta but her body was still pretty firm. However, she doesn't work there anymore as far as I know.

I find Maribaya convenient due to location and I've gone there quite a few times in the past month, but honestly the girls at the massage places in north jakarta or kelapa gading are nicer, more plentiful, and cheaper (and the rooms are nicer as well). I still go to all of them though. :)

On a side note, I saw long time Maribaya girl "Siti" at CJ's last night. That was a shocker since I'd never seen her out anywhere before. She was a stunner back in the day.

Finally get to post some pics and contribute some here. Alexis Hotel in Kota. Took advantage of holiday and visited today. Top class facility, treated myself to a PRC. Smoothy, sorry if you understand my good intentions. I'm not trying to pretend that I've made any dramatic discoveries or "finds," I'm just posting about some of my recent activity, and let readers know about a few of the new girls out there.

Some of these girls work in collusion with the bar maids. Where they charge full price for discount drinks or specials and then split the difference amongst themselves. So be careful when it comes to the bar bill.

Ex. There rate for $100 US is 9375, at Plaza Semmaggi it was 9300 and other places I visited was 9100.

The place is called InterAsia.

Please understand that I am quoting the rate for today and that it will change an a day to day basis.

My point is that this place always had a better rate when I needed to change money.

I just can't be bothered. Card in the ATM, pull out money, done. Seems to give a pretty good exchange rate too.

Having something from Citibank or HSBC helps - worldwide banks seem to be more accepting that people will withdraw money worldwide.

I told her that I have agreed to pay only Rp400,000 and nothing else. Finally, I agreed to part another Rp100,000 (considered as transportation).

Finally, I was alone with the girl named LIA is only 18 years old from Bandung. Only 2 months on the job and knows nothing else what to do. Heck what a rip off, a dead fish and not even sexy. Immediately call Aurel and complaint about this and was promised a return call which never came.

My conclusion was that AUREL is the messenger earning commission and pass all info to NUKE who has about 20 girls under her wing staying in Hyam Wuruk area.

If you think that place is dark, try going to any of the places up north. They are 10 times darker. As a comparison, you can hardly see 5 inches in front of you in places like TC. You could literally hold your own finger in front of your face and not see it at times. I think Melawai is pretty darn well lit. I can sit at the bar and check out the girls sitting 20 feet from me fairly well. If I walk over to them, I have no trouble at all seeing any defect in those girls there. There is little doubt that the girls in the massage places in north jakarta are younger and better looking, but seeing them well enough to select a nice one isn't the easiest thing. Once you're in the room though, you can see fine.

I agree that the rooms totally need to be renovated. They are some of the worst rooms in Jakarta. For the price you have to pay there, you'd think they could renovate. Then again, they don't do the business they did prior to that police raid a while ago. That scared off alot of customers.

There are places with nicer girls, younger girls, better value for money places, nicer rooms, cheaper places, etc etc than Melawai. There's no doubt about that. I go there because it's convenient for me and I don't go there very often anymore due to the number of new places that have sprung up. I might go twice a month on average these days.

I still think it's a good place to hang out because of the relaxed and fairly quiet atmosphere. I can actually sit there and have a quiet beer before making my choice. If I go up north, they will invariably have the house music blasting away so loudly that I can hardly even talk to my friends. In my opinion, Melawai caters more to what an expat living in Jakarta would want - a fairly quiet place to chat with your mates and have a few beers before chosing your massage girl. The places up north cater more to the locals. The locals seem to like that loud house music crap and dim lighting for some reason. Again, the places up north most definitely have nicer girls and nicer facilities. If I were a tourist, I'd probably go there (flashlight in hand). If I want a gorgeous girl, I go up north. If I want to just kick back and relax, I'll go to Melawai or a "real" massage place like Delta.

I agree with you that Delta is FAR nicer than Melawai as far as facilities. Then again, it offers a completely different brand of entertainment. It's a great place to get a real massage, although I think it's a little pricey. I've never had full sex at Delta though. If by "happy ending" you mean a hand job, yep - that's standard there. They don't even ask, they just go for it. LOL!

If you are willing to pay the higher prices for a nicer full service massage, why not go to a place like Sumo? That's even more expensive, but you can find nice girls for sure. Russians and Chinese as well as Indonesians. I wonder how many "massage" places there are in Jakarta?

The Argentina forum of ISG has separate threads for each different popular night spot and massage place, etc. It's nice having an actual sub-section for each massage place/night spot. It would be nice if we could branch this site out similar to the way the Argentina site is. That way we could more easily search for information on the various night spots and massage places.

For those who don't know. Hartono's is located in a private house in Prapanca. Finding it isn't so easy by yourself, but pretty much any silverbird taxi will know where it is. You go into a room full of ladies and some of them are very nice indeed. However, the price is 3 million for 3 hours. And the girls are take out.

MR. SMOOTHY: I agree with you that North Jakarta has younger and better-looking girls, usually for cheaper, and the selection is also much "wider," i.e. you can get not only Chinese and Malay (and very cute mixes in between) local girls, but also Thai, PRC, and Russian/E.European.

I also agree that Melawai and places like Delta and Fortune provide a more relaxed atmosphere, whereas places up north like TC (Tiara Ceria/Today Country), and BM (Bunga Mawar), can be a little scarey for the average expat and caters more to the local customer. Yes, these places are dark, dingy, packed, and loud. However, it's all up to how you handle it, IMHO, although I say that only because I'm part Indonesian and can speak the language fairly well (with nary an accent, I might add, but blending in physically with the local masses is a little more difficult, he he).

For those on this board who want to taste the Northern side of Jakarta but feel a little wary of the situation, perhaps contacting one of the more experience members might provide a solution? A friend who knows the way, so to speak, can be a great help. I will say, though, that once you've been up north it's tough to keep away.

After the roaring success of Big Game Hunting Jakarta BGHJ 1 it's time to go back for a sequel.

I pass thru VoA, immigration and customs without a hitch but Immigrasi Boy cracks me up. I put Leisure as the reason for visit on my Arrival card.

Just returned from Jakarta, visited Kartika and from the direction by Mighty Spearsman & Bebek (Thanks guys) I made it there easy. I tend to think that Hartono's is overpriced and past its prime. There was a time when it did have extremely high quality but unless I'm much mistaken, they dont anymore. You may as well find yourself in 1001 or Zen for that kind of money - but it's subjective and you might not be into karaoke.

You are also unfortunate that you're going right at the start of Ramadhan. Normally the start, middle and end of the month is to be avoided for best returns. Take note that everything will shut down in the middle of the month (15th night) and a lot of places will close down for the entire month (rather than risk the wrath of the militant extremists). Hotel bars will stay open but even they will respect the middle of the month.

Plus, the Fortune Spa (part of the Comfort group) was open last year and should remain open this year as well.

Many girls end up going back to their home villages for the month, while others will stay in Jakarta and still work the shopping malls and night spots. i was lucky that i have local colleague who bring me around for good local food and r&r.

i am also lucky that being mix blood, i understand bahasa and can speak enough that i am understood.

my colleague/friend who was also born and raise in mangga besar (so mabes9, you may have grown up with my colleague:-) area brought me around to such places as mtr in jayakarta, mtr2 in kelapa gading (just opposite delta there), travel hotel, tropical spa, kartika, berlian, alexis, and many more (some other places that i don't even know the name or location as they seem only for local. did not see any foreigner there and did not hear any english spoken).

feels that if you just want some good sex this are the places, but tropical spa also have some good therapist that give acceptable massage.

i agreed with what is written by all the senior member (mentor) in this forum. you can have a good time in jakarta in whichever way you like. with fl or wg or to those places.

Yes folks, you can tell it's coming up. The Supermarkets are being piled high with traditional clothes and boxes of dates, every second scene in the sintetrons starts with "Assalamu alaikum! I was in Jakarta for 4 days last week and here goes my report.

On the first day, I was told that Alexis is a great place to go for relaxation and that is where I went.

I stayed at the Novotel Mangga Dua Square and Alexis is only a 2 minutes ride by taxi or a motorbike taxi. And It is a hotel with a club on the ground floor and a Lounge Bar on the 7th floor.

Was expecting something like the windows in Thailand, however lo and behold, this place was amazing. On one side were the hot pools (included in the price) and on the other side was the lounge. The lounge is huge with music at just the perfect volume.

Now the girls. On one side were the locals (15-20 of them), then in the middle there were 6-8 Uzbekistanis. At the other end of the lounge were 6-8 Chinese and 4-6 Thais. All rated from 6-9 out of 10.

Prices as follows: 800K for the locals, 1. 2m for the Uzbeks and Thais and 1. 5 million for the Chinese. Personally I am not into Chinese, but some of them here were stunners. The price is for short time including a room.

The routine is that on entering, one of the "pursers" asks you what is you choice and after you tell them which nationality you like, all the girls from that section are paraded in front of you and stay there until you make your selection. I agree with Smoothy. While it is true that I have been turned down by women in both BATS and CJ's who were asking for more, I also have never spent a million rupiah on a woman anywhere in Indonesia. In fact, the most I have ever given was 500k, plus funding both room-service food and a (duty-free) bottle of wine during a break in the action.

I feel a little bit guilty for encouraging any high-rollers here to sample the 3 to 7 million rupiah asking price from the pimp whose contact number I supplied, but only a little (grin). The way I look at it, this pimp has a business that is the equivalent of the hotel mini-bar where you can pay US$4 or $5 for the same drink that you can buy from a mini-mart for less than $1.

So I plead guilty to encouraging over-spending, but with three caveats: One, several people are asking for high-priced contacts. Two, I make very clear that I find the value-for-money not worth it, so I have never tried. Three, I truly will like to know whether anyone ever finds something so special from one of these Hartono-type places that they claim the price to have been worth it . . . and not simply a mini-bar-like overcharge for identical pussy.

Now for the obligatory poon report (smile) - last week in Jakarta, I met a moonlighting nurse in the bar at the Marriott. Not my usual haunt, but I was there for a drink, and she was clearly cruising me with an inviting smile, so I approached her and we left together 5 minutes later. Just enter the main lobby, take the escalator down, and you'll see it near the bottom of the escalator. There is a sign out front that states "diplomatic passports required" for the sale, but I've been buying there for 4 years with not a second look. Prices are not as good as airport duty free, but not a rippoff either.

I have seen it when you go to block M and everything is mysteriuosly closed. Next night it is open, but very quiet. In this case, better to stick to the hotle bars, but even they are sometimes shut. It probably won't happen to you, but jsut be aware that it can and go with the flow.

Best thing is to have a drive you trust who knows the score and can check things out for you. Also he can wait so you don't have to try to find a taxi late at night.

I wouldn't be concerned, just keep your eyes open.

Just a word of caution about the SPA in the airport, be careful with your money.

On my way from JKT to BKK I had some time before my flight so I decided to try the 'family' massage at the airport spa.

During my massage someone mamaged to steal 400,000 IDR from my wallet.

And this is true, I am not making this up. I knew how much money was in my wallet before I went in because I was calculating at the exchange counter, converting IDR to TB.

During my massage the girl insisted in covering my head with a towel (guess that should have tipped me off). And during the 30 mins somehow managed to remoe my wallet from my pants they were hanging on the wall and remove the money from my wallet.

They didn't take all of the money just some of it, they left enough for me to pay for the massage and the exit tax.

So a word of caution, if someone covers your head with a towel during a massage, be aware of what may happen.

I didn't think much of it beacuse usually in BKK when you get a massage theis sort of stuff never happens, I can say that with assurance.

But I just can't believe how dishonest the Indonesians are. There are many instances where people try to deceive me with exchange or wrong change.

And never expect any change from a taxi driver.

But I still love the place, I have never had so much attention from girls in all my life.

It's a great place to pick up girls.

I am buying my duty free from this shop in Fatmawati Mas along Fatmawati of course.... I think it's the only place that still say yellow card welcome??

But stock is rather low when last checked..... They say shipment is in but having quota problem.... Not sure why though... Stock can only be cleared after ramadan....

...a word of caution about the SPA in the airport, be careful with your money.

On my way from JKT to BKK I had some time before my flight so I decided to try the 'family' massage at the airport spa.

During my massage someone managed to steal 400,000 IDR from my wallet.

And this is true, I am not making this up. I knew how much money was in my wallet before I went in because I was calculating at the exchange counter, converting IDR to TB.

They didn't take all of the money just some of it, they left enough for me to pay for the massage and the exit tax.

So a word of caution, if someone covers your head with a towel during a massage, be aware of what may happen...

The frustrating part of the story is that it probably would not have happened a few months ago. Unfortunately, thievery, robberies and similar petty crimes increase tremendously during the days before and during the fasting month of Ramadan.

It's a simple Harvard Business School case:

- most of the working girls in Jakarta are not from Jakarta but rather from someplace else, a town or village referred to as their "kampung." Most girls seem to come from Indramayu or Semarang, both in Java, as well as other parts of Indonesia.

- these girls are expected to travel home to their kampung to celebrate the "Eid" festival (also known as "Lebaran") at the end of Ramadan. The girls need to have enough cash to pay round-trip train or bus fare (200,000 rupiah, maybe 300,000 rupiah or more) and buy clothes and other presents for their families (including the girls' children), plus have some cash in their pocket to pay for food and some cash gifts as well, in total we're talking at least a couple million rupiah (over US $200) if not more. The expectation for gifts brings enormous pressures on these girls; they have to come home for the holiday, and they cannot show up empty-handed.

- on the other hand, the potential revenue earnings for these girls in Jakarta temporarily drops during this period, as many of the MPs and spas are closed for the entire month of Ramadan, and bar activity drops as many bars/discos/pick-up places have reduced operating hours for the month. And of course most of these girls have saved little if any cash during the last 11 months (since last year's Eid).

- the bottom line is obvious - the pressure to get money for Lebaran can force even the most (normally) honest girl to be tempted to steal! or beg or borrow, etc.

Of course, not all girls will steal; many will use their feminine charms to persuade their gentlemen friends (like me) to come visit them for a session at their MP/spa just before the spa closes for Ramadan, or at least to get a small cash donation. During the last 10 days, I received sms messages from at least 12 different girls, all asking me to stop by for a session, with the obvious hope of receiving a larger-than-normal tip from me.

Again, I'm truly sorry to read of your misfortune, and thanks for warning us and reminding us of what might happen.

It seems like Ramadan would be a good time for mongering for the long time residents who have a collection of phone numbers. Not only the regular bar girls but the massage girls as well are not working and desperate for money. They will readily come to your place at any time of the day and shag your brains out. The fasting month of Ramadan has started, so most of the MPs and spas (other than the ones located in hotels - see Oyenk's list) are closed down, to reopen in mid-October.

I am a caucasian, and I visited the Duty-Free place in the B1-level of the Intercontinental this week (Sept. 11'th).

There was a woman by herself behind the counter and not another person in the entire shop. I picked out 2 bottles of red from Argentina and was pleasantly surprised when the price was just US$7 each . . . that would be roughly 65k rupiah per bottle. But then the woman asked me for my "diplomatic credentials". I misunderstood at first, and handed over my passport. She handed it right back and told me "No, only diplomats can shop here".

I tried a few things - "Look, I'm a tourist, and tourists can buy duty-free" . . . "It's only 2 bottles" . . . "How about if I pay the duty on these duty-free bottles" . . . "What can I do to make it possible for you to sell this wine to me?". Everything was no sale; she was very firm, even though there were zero other people in the store.

It turns out that there is another wine-shop directly across the hall-way from the Diplomats-Only place. That one (called Bacchus) WILL sell to anyone, but the very cheapest bottle in the entire store is roughly 200k rupiah, and most are considerably more expensive than that.

I asked the staff in Bacchus why I couldn't buy from duty-free, and they said "Oh, sure you can. It is only Indonesian's who cannot shop there". So I went straight back to Diplomats-Only wine-shop, and got turned down again.

Net/net, there must be either some luck involved on a hit-or-miss basis, or some trick to getting served in the Diplomats Only shop. That is a pity, because the prices are much, much lower than at nearby Bacchus.

I am a caucasian, and I visited the Duty-Free place in the B1-level of the Intercontinental this week (Sept. 11'th).

I have been shopping there since August 2004 and I have noticed a few changes myself. At first I used to buy whatever I needed no problem at all, but then they started asking about my "diplomatic" credentials, I just laughed but the girl said seeing as how I was a regular and all that she could serve me but strictly speaking it should be diplomats only. At that time I was living in an apartment near by so I only needed a half a dozen bottles at a time however when I moved out to the 'burbs I would pop by every other month or so and load up with as many cases as would fit in my boot, no problem again.

However recently the manager, the girl with glasses right? Told me I could only buy two cases at a time, I could call every day and get two cases but only that anount in one go. I tried to reason with her and she looked pained but apologised and said that was the new rule.

I then discovered another bottle shop on Jl Gatot Subroto which was conveniently located near my home, so I shopped there for a while, but they closed down last year. Then earlier this year I found another Duty Free in Jalan Sabang, not far from Sarinah, they were great, loads of good Aussie and Kiwi stuff at US$5 a bottle. I've been going regularly but their stock has stopped being replenished and now they are running very low, they promise "next month mister" every time but it never arrives. They also made a song and dance about taking my photo id (no I'm not a diplomat) before allowing me to buy and wouldn't sell me wine by the case instead insisting it be bagged up to prevent me reselling the stuff.

So what to conclude? Well these problems all started around the same time they banned wine and liquor from the supermarkets a year and a half or so back, I also hear rumours of problems with getting supplies of booze to hotels in Bali, something to do with a backlog at customs or inability to clear bonded warehouses or something. However in typical Indonesian fashion it may well be that some grubby fingered official is trying to impose a monopoly of alcohol sales in Indonesia (I believe in the past Tommy Suharto might have done something similar) and this is why the bottle shops are comiing under such pressure these days. Anyone who has further info could maybe let us know.

Finally, the obvious point: anyone who's interested can easily find 5 girls to pick from - just show up at Hotel Melawai and stand in the lobby, follow the security upstairs and make your pick! Turned out I was wrong - most places will reopen by Wednesday, Oct. 16th, so plan accordingly.

The pure "streetwalker" scene is primarily for locals, not visitors, usually in somewhat-rough neigborhoods, which is why you won't find much written about it here in the board.

Went to Malioboro Hotel and Spa on Monday for the first time, great place, glad I went, will definitely be back soon despite the confusing pricing scheme here.

Walked upstairs and into the main lounge, where two Chinese-Indonesian mamasans sat me down at a table. While I drank some Aqua, they explained what was available. One mamasan was clearly the high-end mamasan, she pointed out several Chinese girls (all decent looking), two Uzbek girls (no way!) and a Thai "model" who was 1.80 meters tall and looked like a lady boy who had recently had a sex change, all available for 1,500,000 rupiah. The other mamasan spoke great English, and described all of the options available, including the freelancers for 800,000 and other local girls.

I said I'd think about it, and walked over to the "theater" room, with the mamasan with great English following me. There were a few Chinese masseuses in there, all tired-looking and over 35 years old. Supposedly these ladies do massage plus HJ only, no FS. The mamasan then asked me to sit down in one of the large padded seats in the theater, sat down next to me, and said that she could offer me local girls for 350,000 rupiah for massage, blow job and sex all included, plus I could give the girl a tip if I wanted.

She called in 3 local girls, all of whom were just ok-looking and supposedly 18. I pointed out that they all looked bored and that I was more interested in good service, so the mamasan sent the 18 year olds away and called in a very cute 21 year old named "Salsa," promising guaranteed good service. Salsa spoke some English and looked like fun, so I said yes and off we went.

Salsa has a beautiful face, just so-so body, around 5 kg. overweight once her clothes came off, but great service, and I was very pleased with the session. Afterwards we walked back downstairs and she hinted about her tip, and I said "don't worry, I will tip you." We got back to the 2nd floor and I filled in a tip slip for 150,000 rupiah.

Back downstairs, showered and dressed, walked up front to pay, and found that my bill was 675,000 rupiah! I asked for the breakdown and was told, in addition to my tip of 150,000 rupiah, the standard charge was: 350,000 for the room + an additional charge for the girl of 175,000 rupiah.

I was not happy but decided not to make a fuss, as I plan on returning here soon. Luckily I had plenty of cash, otherwise I would have had to charge it.

So here's a warning for the future - get a better understanding of the pricing at this place up front! Despite that, I will be back here again soon.

P.S. One would never know it was Ramadan, this place is open, in full swing. Lots of customers, all Chinese except me.

inspired by all the posts on this thread, i decided that i, too, had to 'buka puasa' in so far as sexual abstinence was concerned.

my general observation is that despite the slightly higher prices at alexis, it is an experience not to be missed. it has much more ambience that beverly although both are high-end spas. i am going to return and perhaps taste one of the exotics. so despite fears of having to go hungry over ramadan, i would that they were belied. in fact, when i asked rani her religion,she replied islam and when i further asked her if she was observing the fast, she laughed!

last observation- it's much better to take the transjakarta to both these places whenever you go, whether in th4e afternoon or the evening. besides saving money, you save time. it took me 40 mins to get to kota from plaza indonesia and only 25 mins back.given the macet, an ojek to alexis is the best way to go further from kota to the spa.

MS - You did get overcharged at Marioboro, those local girls are 350K all in. You should have called the mommy down to straighten that out. Also those 350K locals are mostly girls who rotate each between Marioboro and Travel Hotel where they are 285K. Tips are up to you as always but you can tip as you would in Travel.

I went there some time ago with JAD and, I think, Patbutter or Artisto Ken. Like a number of other guests I ordered a fruit salad that was priced at Rp. 11.000,=

The bill that was presented with the salad however, mentioned a price of Rp 40.000,=. I expressed my surprise and the WG that was with us said, that in the preceding days, a number of guests has already expressed their surprise as well.
I asked the headwaiter to explain the difference. It was a misprint in the new cards they received that day(!), he said. I told him that that was a lie and that guests, ordering a fruitsalad should be informed about the misprint when ordering it. He insisted however that I'd pay the 40K. I left the restaurant/bar without paying one rupiah! The surprise however, came when I returned the number, they gave when entering. There was a cover charge. I don't remember exactly what the amount was, but it was huge! If I'm not mistaken, it was like 140K per person. I haven't been there since!

Actually I do speak the language fairly well, in particular the numbers.

With most Indonesians, even when I am speaking in English, I always state or re-state a monetary price in bahasa Indonesian, just to avoid any innocent (or purposeful) confusion. For example, most Indonesians, indeed most Americans can easily mis-speak "fifteen" and "fifty," so I always use Indonesian to more easily hear the difference between "lima belas" (15) and "lima puluh" (50).

Being a foreigner was most likely the problem, as they probably figured that I'd just pay and not make a big fuss (correct!). But even my respected Indonesian friend Menteng was overcharged there, so maybe they try to rip off everyone here. If so, then maybe it's time for me to boycott Malioboro and try a different high-end spa next time.

Or, I could just take a rest and wait until late October when Cynthia returns to Kartika Spa :)

She pointed out that the hotel rooms are nicer and have a television, while the 3rd floor massage rooms did not have a television, to which I responded that I did not come to Malioboro to watch TV (she smiled at this comment).

I asked why I had not been given a room on the 3rd floor, and her response was "the massage rooms on the 3rd floor are closed because of Ramadan, so we have to put everyone in the hotel rooms until after Ramadan is over, and charge the extra 175,000 for the hotel room."

I then asked if the extra room charge applied to the high-end Chinese/Thai/Uzbek girls and she said no, the 1,500,000 rupiah charge for those girls already includes the cost of the hotel room. I then asked "what about the free-lancers for 800,000 rupiah?" and she replied same, the room charge is already included in the fee.

Not sure whether to believe her or not. I guess the only way to find out is to wait until after Ramadan is over and then see if the lower price for the local girls is reinstated.

Hotel management had to tell you first at that time, they had to achieve your agreement to move to 4th floor...if the 3rd floor room can not be used during ramadan. Customer is the king and 175,000 rupiahs is too much for that I think.

I believe if you had picked free-lancers for 800,000 rupiahs that time, they would have charged you with another 175,000 rupiahs or more.

When I was in Travel couple months ago, execution rooms were full and mamasan ordered the WG to open hotel room and I had a hotel room (this room was for transit hour with rate 150 k/per 6 hours), They did not overcharge me at all ! ( sorry I didn't promote Travel). I had that room for an hour.
FYI: Execution room and hotel room in travel have television.

The month of Ramadan (fasting month) for the Muslim is quite a low time for having fun in Jakarta. I was there 2 days into the said month for a business consultation and was informed by my assigned driver that the picking was slim but not impossible. Having been to Jakarta many times, I was not interested to pay for the higher end imported goods.

After ordering my meal I was looking for a place to seat (surprisingly it was quite pack) but to my dismay no empty table was available. I must have look desperate because a lady smiled at me and offered me a seat at her table. I gladly accepted. Having seen all these posts about the Malioboro which is located on Jl Hayam Wuruk, I tried to spot the sign for the place but was not succesful. Are there any nearby landmarks by which one can find it or which is the nearest Trans-jakarta busway halt?

The nearest Trans-Jakarta stop is "Harmoni" on the Kota-Blok M line; Harmoni is also a transit stop for two other lines.

Take the exit ramp to the side where Carrefour is, then walk heading north (i.e. towards Carrefour). At the end of the block you'll see the Lion Air building, keep walking past Lion Air (with Lion Air on your left) and you'll soon find Malioboro Hotel and Spa, in a plain boring-looking grey building on your left.

The spa is right on the ground floor - walk through the front door, up to the counter, you'll get a wristlet with a # on it, then walk through the doors into the area of the spa where the lockers, sauna, etc. are located. The girls are located one flight up.

Another landmark? you should see a Dunkin' Donuts across the street/canal.

Perhaps the confusion has to do with the street naming. The northbound (left) lanes on the left (west) side of the canal are known as Jalan Gajah Mada, while the southbound lanes (on the east side of the canal) are Jalan Hayam Wuruk.

Good luck! Look forward to a report of your experiences there. And make sure you clarify all of the charges for the room and girl ahead of time.

Don't know if Stadium is open or not. Ask Oyenk, he should know.

However, please note that if Stadium is open, it would be a prime target to get "attacked" - usually a group of morally religious rowdies try to attack and close down a couple of open bars, pubs, discos, etc. every year to set an example. while it’s true that virtually all freestanding mps and spas in jakarta are closed for the fasting month of ramadan, with some open mps/spas that are located in hotels, i recently found a possible exception. i had heard stories about the hidden brothels in the northern part of jakarta (kota, grogol, pluit), and finally got to visit one for myself.

an indonesian friend of mine introduced me to this place. it’s in a fairly-new three-story building located on a canal in a crowded part of grogol, on jalan bidara raya, walking distance from the “angke” exit of the toll road. as you can see from the two attached photos, there’s a bintang beer sign out in front but no name sign, and you have to walk from jalan bidara raya across a bridge to reach the place.

looking on the map: just north of jl. pangeran tubagus angke, south of jl. teluk gong, east of the toll road and west of jl. jembatan dua. the directions that were sent to me in an sms also said “gang kambing, sinar budi/kali jodo” which the taxi driver seemed to understand.

walked inside the other afternoon at 3 p.m. and the ground floor appeared to be a dance hall, with a wide open central area, high ceilings, chairs around the perimeter and a home-made stage at one end. there were a dozen or so girls sitting together in one section, all appearing to be late teens/early 20s (none appeared to be ****), dressed fairly regularly, jeans and short-sleeved tops; that is, none of them were dressed like “hookers” in negligees or mini-skirts.

sat down, ordered a soft drink, and talked with one young lady. she asked if i wanted to go with her, and i asked “where?” to which she replied that there were rooms upstairs. she said that the room price was 100,000 rupiah for an hour, and that i should pay at the bar. we walked together over to the bar, i paid the 100,000 rupiah, the bar guy gave the girl a clean towel, and upstairs we went.

the second floor was bright, clean and airy and looked like a floor in a hotel (which may explain why this place is able to stay open). there were 10 rooms on each side, numbered 1 to 20, and evidently each girl lives in one of the rooms full-time, sleeping there at night. the room itself was fairly small but there was room for a bed, a mini-closet with shelves, and a walled-off area with a water faucet, for shower and [CodeWord134] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord134) (no sign of a sit-down toilet).

one thing that i didn’t like about the room – once we undressed, took a quick shower together and got into bed, and the girl turned out the regular light, a second, ceiling light stayed on, this one had a yellowish/greenish bulb (like the bulb in an outdoor bug lamp). i asked what the light was for and she replied that that light would stay on until our time was up, then it would turn off. weird.

another consideration is this place is a potential target for the religious zealots, especially if a foreigner is seen walking into the place.

i’m curious what jakarta after dark 2 has to say about this place.

oh, evidently the expected tip is 50,000 rupiah, but i gave the girl 100,000 rupiah, since she gave good service, also because i doubt if she gets to keep any of the room fee.

The month of Ramadan (fasting month) for the Muslim is quite a low time for having fun in Jakarta.

There's not much in the way of full service places on Jalan Jaksa itself, although you should find some free-lance girls easily.

I've been living (and mongering) in Jakarta quite a few years now. I do agree that on the average, the indo girls are more gfe than the Thai girls (although I've had some sweet Thai girls who were fantastic gfe's as well - and I think the Thai girls are also better looking on average).

There is a dangkut cafe at Ancol just before you reach Alexis hotel. Around 12mn (presume close early these days) there are a quite a population of girls who work there hanging out to be picked. For them who came as visitor during ramadan, they can choose hotels around Mangga Besar - West Jakarta. Most population are Chinese people who are Buddhism and Christian. Most of them also work in hotel in that area. So do not afraid to eat during ramadan in that area (just be aware of it). Chinese people also provide pork in their restaurant. I mentioned 3 hotels that have good service and economics (around 25 USD for standart room) in thread info...please find it.

Other area I suggest to stay during ramadan are Kelapa Gading, Sunter and Pluit (North Jakarta). The majority population also chinese.

* I believe most spa/bordello which open during ramadan also in that area. For example: Classic (bro Mighty Spearsman mentioned), Travel, Malioboro and many others (see in my last updated fuckshops)

When you want to search, click on "Advanced Search". Put in what you want to search for. And make sure in the bottom left hand part of the screen that you have checked "Show results as reports". The default is show results as threads and it will just find the jakarta thread. But if you click show results as reports, you will see each individual report on that topic.

That being said, it would still be nice if we could get separate threads for each bar/massage parlor, etc within the jakarta thread instead of just one huge one for all topics related to jakarta.

Truly sorry to read about what happened to you.

The frustrating part of the story is that it probably would not have happened a few months ago. Unfortunately, thievery, robberies and similar petty crimes increase tremendously during the days before and during the fasting month of Ramadan.

It's a simple Harvard Business School case:

- most of the working girls in Jakarta are not from Jakarta but rather from someplace else, a town or village referred to as their "kampung." Most girls seem to come from Indramayu or Semarang, both in Java, as well as other parts of Indonesia.

- these girls are expected to travel home to their kampung to celebrate the "Eid" festival (also known as "Lebaran") at the end of Ramadan. The girls need to have enough cash to pay round-trip train or bus fare (200,000 rupiah, maybe 300,000 rupiah or more) and buy clothes and other presents for their families (including the girls' children), plus have some cash in their pocket to pay for food and some cash gifts as well, in total we're talking at least a couple million rupiah (over US $200) if not more. The expectation for gifts brings enormous pressures on these girls; they have to come home for the holiday, and they cannot show up empty-handed.

- on the other hand, the potential revenue earnings for these girls in Jakarta temporarily drops during this period, as many of the MPs and spas are closed for the entire month of Ramadan, and bar activity drops as many bars/discos/pick-up places have reduced operating hours for the month. And of course most of these girls have saved little if any cash during the last 11 months (since last year's Eid).

- the bottom line is obvious - the pressure to get money for Lebaran can force even the most (normally) honest girl to be tempted to steal! or beg or borrow, etc.

Of course, not all girls will steal; many will use their feminine charms to persuade their gentlemen friends (like me) to come visit them for a session at their MP/spa just before the spa closes for Ramadan, or at least to get a small cash donation. During the last 10 days, I received sms messages from at least 12 different girls, all asking me to stop by for a session, with the obvious hope of receiving a larger-than-normal tip from me.

Again, I'm truly sorry to read of your misfortune, and thanks for warning us and reminding us of what might happen.

I truly agree with Mighty. Ramadhan to these girls mean a lot of pressure to bring home money, presents, clothings and toys for the children. It is normal for these girls to ask or hint for a bigger than usual tips which most of us are willing to fork out and in return to this understanding, the girls give us their best! So it is quite a fair exchange!
