There's quite a few hotels to be in Semarang. You can try Hotel Puri Garden in Puri Anjasmoro area. They have a massage parlour down there too by the name of Aloha. Prices are quite expensive according to those who know the street well, from 100-500,000 rupiah, maybe more now cause that was last year's price. Anyway, for more info about sex scene in Semarang, it's as simple as getting a ride on a taxi and asked the driver. Let me know if you find a good place and the prices. Hi, John. From my experience puri garden is quiet and relatively safe, is somewhat more expensive, although it would beat overseas prices quite easily.

You can try plaza hotel which is even futher from the main city than puri garden is, or rinjani hotel which is not that far.

You can also just go to Ciputra Mall and ask the cab drivers for direction and they will take you there. They will have the knowledge and probably ask you for some tip, probably just a few dollars worth. Most of them are safe, that's my experience but always be careful.

You can see everything in one day.

Am planning to visit Semarang shortly. The last time I was in Semaang I visited the Puri Garden hotel. It was a rip off in terms of value for money. And it is pretty isolated. I propose to stay in Ciputra. How is the MP there. Do they offer full service? Does the bar in Ciputra have girls who can be picked up? I was there last Jan. I stayed at Ciputra. It's the best hotel in Semarang, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, their bar is kinna small and it's one of the places for locals to hang out. As a first timer, I felt like I was in a private party with nobody I know. Not recommended.

Just hop in any taxis and ask the driver to take you to 'cari cewek'. In my last experience, he took me to about 5 different places, before I settled with one. The usual ST rate is Rp 300K (which is it can be negotiated, I believe. However, the rate is not the concern, the quality is).

The following day when I was in line for a taxi in front of the hotel, I decided to walk out of the line, as I saw few taxis parked around 30ft from the hotel. Surprisingly, the driver offered me a 'semi-pro' girl, 500K for LT plus 50K for himself. I said OK, if the girl is OK to me. And then in about an hour (after he took me to my destination, and then dropped me back at the hotel) he brought me a cute, petite girl. Her name is Ayu. To make the story short, she turned out to be non pro at all (my cup of tea :)), however, very GFE after few martinis :). She just graduated from a high school 2 years ago and still jobless. I even ended up taking her to my next visit: Jakarta. Total damage: 1M plus airfare. Unfortunately, I don't have her number anymore. This time I was in Ciputra Hotel. The bar Tiyo is located in the ground floor. There is a band from Bali playing there.Lot of locals and Bules and Indians were hanging around there. I'm in Semarang now and I can't agree with the people who said there's no action here. There aren't as many bars full of working girls as there are in other cities, but they're here. I have not posted for a while, so I think its time to add some hopefully valuable information about my experiences in Semarang where I stayed for 24 hours lately.
I arrived at noon and went staight to the Novotel to fresh up a bit. 5 minutes later I found myself in a taxi to the first location I got told by a fellow forum member (thanks SIJ).

The location is called Rinjani Hotel (at least thats what you need to tell the taxi driver). Its a little complex in the hilly area. When you enter, you see a couple of doors: Left in the corner is a Karaoke Club, right is the Hotel (i guess) and straight (a bit left) is a Sign Sauna - thats the entrance to choose. I told the guy at the bar that I wanna have a look and he showed me the fish bowl with around 10 girls - all acceptable but not stunning. I made my call (6, forgot the name).

We went up into a clean room with an attached bathroom. After having a quick shower I requested a BBBJ but she refused initially. I talked her somehow into it but she did not like it and was not very enthusiastic.

Visted a new spa that just opened on Jl. Imam Bonjol (across the street from a gas station). Facilities fairly decent and the place is very clean.

my one-night tour of semarang, on a recent tuesday. thanks to “rtff” (especially the useful reports by field mouse), i was able to see several different places:

1) graha spa: (mentioned in a post by desmondthom below) when i arrived at semarang airport, i was greeted by two spg’s (sales promotion girls) who were handing out flyers for this spa right in the baggage area, pretty much a giveaway that this place is legit and at best hj-only. the flyer included photos of three guys in a sauna and two guys each receiving massages (one foot, one back massage) from male masseurs, not the most enticing prospect. so i never bothered to check out this place.

2) my hotel’s massage spa: i stayed at the santika premiere, right downtown just 50 meters from the center of town at simpang lima (where the “po-ci” tea shops are located). the hotel spa was part of the club arena chain, which is normally a straight massage-only place, often times not even a hj, never more than that, so i did not bother.

3) tea shop girls: i had a local driver during the day, so i asked him about the “po-ci” tea shops with the “ciblek” young girls at simpang lima that were mentioned in the post by the exile. he laughed and said that they were only in operation beginning thursday evening, and since i was in town on a tuesday evening, i was out of luck.

4) “houses”: around 10 p.m., a taxi driver took me to four separate places where girls are available for take-away to your hotel. the first three places had only 35-ish women, and only a total of 4 women for all 3 places, i quickly passed on all. the fourth place had only one very young-looking girl who had a terrified look on her face once she saw that i was a foreigner, so i passed on her as well.

the first two places asked for 400,000 rupiah for short-time then dropped to 350,000 rupiah, the last two places started at an amazing 500,000 rupiah for short-time, quickly dropped to 400,000 rupiah once i started bargaining in bahasa indonesian. still, too high!

5) shinta spa at hotel rinjani: by the time i got here (almost 11 p.m.) they were closing for the night. there were two ladies wearing uniforms standing by the front door, not sure if they were masseuses or receptionists, but both were over 30 and unattractive.

6) jalan argorejo vii: this is a “miniature dolly” -like street near the airport, mentioned by field mouse in his report six months ago. it’s one long block on a narrow hilly street, with around 100-125 girls sitting in groups of 5-8 in front of several local houses (each girl lives in a room in the house, similar to the dolly setup). there’s also a karaoke pub named barbie’s doll house halfway up on the right that was closed by the time i was there (11:20 p.m.).

the percentage of decent-looking girls was higher than i thought it would be, at least 50 percent of the girls were in their early 20s and decent-looking (no obviously-**** girls here). there were several taxis at the foot of the hill and a strong sense of security and organization here. i appeared to be the only bule (foreigner) there.

i walked up and down the entire street for several minutes, ended up picking a 20 year old named setya, from solo (near yogyakarta), cute face, chunky body (but something very nice about her), from one of the houses towards the bottom of the hill. the price was as field mouse mentioned, 150,000 rupiah for a foreigner, with a 15,000 rupiah “security” fee (not sure what this is, maybe a bribe to the local police?). i asked one mamasan if they charged locals only 100,000 rupiah, she insisted that everyone was charged 150,000 (i didn’t believe her).

when we were outside we spoke only in bahasa indonesian, but once we got into her room, i discovered that setya spoke excellent english, seemed very educated, and was very pleasant to be with. she showed me a certificate stating that, in december 2007 she had attended a 4-day training program co-conducted by the australian and us governments on safe sex and the dangers of hiv/aids (i know one of the persons who signed the certificate!). setya was very proud of her certificate and stated that all of the girls in her house would only have sex with condoms.

she said that she had worked there for almost a year, works seven nights a week, from 7 p.m. until 1 or 2 a.m., usually only one customer per night, most ever was 3 one night, and she hates her job. i was her first foreigner, she said that she rarely sees foreigners on the street.

I spend the last two nights in Semarang. Arriving at about 18:30 in the Novotel after a day driving though remote areas in Central Java. After a shower I went to Shinta Spa at Hotel Rinjani. The place was apparently very busy and only 5 girls were in the fish tank when I arrived. Picked No 21. Went upstairs and only one large room was available and a few small rooms. Ironic part of this was not easy to find chicken either. after reading about Simpang Lima & Semarang was expecting happy time but finding chicken was hard work. hugos at plaza simpang lima was pretty much empty . a couple of girls but not sure if WL or not.

That dreadful duplicity with Javanese that means you can never get a straight answer from them also means that they are the most tolerant and lovely people you could ever meet.

So it's chin up eyes forward and look the receptionist in the eye as you stride on past. Who knows, maybe she needs a top up to the salary ha ha.

Flew into Semarang around 9PM, place was flooded after some heavy rain which was quite funny driving around through 300-400mm of water, checked in to hotel. Showered and headed off in search of Ciblek.

Though I would check out the girls around Poncol station but the streets were too flooded so asked the driver to take me to Sunan Kuning compleks, past the airport and in a little.

SK was busy being a Saturday night, the quality of the girls was variable but not as good as I expected. A couple of guys offered to find me the girls but they just went to the same places I had already looked so wandered off. The complex is very tight over a small area.

Tried to get to my pocket looking for a KTP but I was having none of that. Asked him what he wanted which was 400K.

Said I had no money left, just 200K so he took that although he was still pretty pissed off spending a long time telling the taxi driver something that I couldn't understand.

I must admit I was quite pleased to get back to the hotel. No I probably won't be going back to SK or Semarang anytime soon, this is the second time I have been to Semarang and both times I have found the people quite averse to bules.

In hindsight I don't think I was rude at SK as I try to always be as respectful as possible and this guy was quite aggressive right from the outset. The question for any of you that know Semarang and Maybe SK well is who was this guy? He could possibly do with some mentoring on his style, I would be keen to help him with this.

It's actually pretty unusual for a Javanese person to be that publicly aggressive, perhaps he was high on something or drunk (or desparate for cash). Indonesians will always respect you if you stay cool and calm in these situations. It's possible that you might have been able to leave without paying anything, but on the other hand you got away cheap by paying 200, 000 rupiah, so no real loss.

You really have guts to visit SK. Even for local, that place is on the low level income, so not many brave enough to go if they not familiar with the situation. From what I heard, locals use to pay just +- 150. 000 per FS. I think that he is a local mob (or "preman") who want take advantage of you. And like Mighty Spearsman said, he probably on drug. Even if you call the local police, SK usually already pay a regular bribe, so they won't be fair to you.

In the web (local forum) reports from SK was very scarce, last reported on 2007. But local usually don't get any trouble there. So again, maybe he was just take advantage of a foreigner which in his opinion / mind have a lot of money.

Having said that, if you keep your expectations low, I think you'd enjoy a 2 or 3 night visit here. There's a section of town with some old buildings, an interesting new Chinese temple, and a new mosque with a high tower, I went to the top and enjoyed the aerial view of the area. A local traditional medicine factory, PT Nyonya Muneer, has a museum that's worth a 30-minute visit. And, if the "po-ci" tea shops are still operating, it might be interesting to check them out. I'm also happy to recommend my hotel, the Santika Premiere, right downtown just 50 meters from the center of town at Simpang Lima, where the “po-ci” tea shops are located (read my post for more details).

I used to go to SK often enough, but like you, I found that bules were tolerated by the pimps, but not many of the ladies showed much interest in us. I had a cow of a time trying to arrange 2 ladies at once, and some actions they just flatly refused to do. I am a decent sized bloke and never really felt intimidated by the 'corner boys', but I was always wary of their presence and frequently had one of them say things in Javanese, which I couldn't fully understand (my grasp of Bahasa was reasonably good). As you drive out of the airport, there are tons of banners advertising Legends Spa and KTV, which as it happened, was near my hotel and the driver specifically pointed it out to me as we drove by, saying if I wanted to drink and / or go to an adult spa. So of course, I went there that night! The facilities are in the Grand Edge Hotel and pretty nice. The elevator takes you to the KTV on 3rd floow. The spa is listed on the 2nd floor, but you can't reach it directly through the hotel elevators, you have to walk through the KTV and then go down a flight of stairs. I went very early evening and the girls were a little on the heavy side for my tastes, but I was in the mood, picked a girl with a pretty smile.
