Judging by some posts and my own limited experience, I suspect that foreigners are often given a limited selection of less than attractive girls at some health/pink salons.
Some of this could be the girls are afraid of AIDS, other cases could be that attractive ones have regular clientel and are busier than the dogs. Another factor might be that foreigners are cheap and don't want to pay the extra 1-2,000yen shimei charge to choose. In cases where attractive girls are offered to non-Japanese, that sometimes means they are non-Japanese as well.
This is not to say you can't score a J-beauty. I would just like to suggest that all you non-Asians getting stuck with dogs cough up the extra 2,000 and demand a pretty one, instead of taking whoever they give you because you are desparate to get off. If the answer is "you must wait a long time" then tell them you will move on. If it is a slow time, I bet a pretty one will become available soon.
(I am guilty of twice not demanding high quality girls, and am mad at myself for this lack of courage. Next time will be different!!)
Here is a question for those of you using SW or delivery health girls:
When you go to a love hotel after 10 or 11pm, you have the option of staying the whole night for about 7-10,000. Is there any rule which say that after the girl leaves (say 1-2 hours), you MUST leave as well? Common sense would say that if you paid for the room for the night, you should be able to stay, even if your partner leaves early. But then again this is a love hotel, which may have different rules..
Any comments/experiences would be helpful, as I am wondering whether I need to book a real hotel to go to later that night or not.

Some people stay at love hotels in Japan because they are cheaper than the bigger "name brand" hotels. You save a lot, plus those taxes. It's been awhile, but when I was there, you'd always pay the hotel fee through a little square opening (no-one supposed to see you) when you leave...so I guess when the girl leaves, just stay put until morning and they'll charge you the all-nighter fee. Once you leave the room, the doors locks behind you and you're screwed, so stay put until morning (and be sure of the rates..........). There's nothing wrong staying all night, couples do it all the time! Have fun!

I need to ask people who are familiar with the West.
What I want to ask is, are "Short stay hotels" in the US and Canada or Europe only used with professionals or do people sometimes take their girl friend in for a quickie? How strange would this be?
As some of you may know, there are places called "love hotels" in Japan which are rented by the hour (or 3, sometimes all night) where people go for sex (and occasionally just for a rest or to stay the night because they are cheaper). Sometimes people will take prostitutes to love hotels, but often they will take their girlfriend, including especially the person that they are having an affair with, or even their wife.
The reasons for this are perhaps
1) Japanese young people live with their families for longer, often until they marry, so they often do not have a place of their own.
2) Japanese houses are smaller and are often partitioned with paper walls.
3) The architectural problem is exacerbated since many Japanese ladies sometimes make those moaning noises.
4) There is a more permissive culture of sex (perhaps).
5) And hence they are provided to give a more interesting sexual experience with them rooms, toys, videos and mirrors that would be difficult to provide in such variety at home.
6) Japanese morality depends on *where* you are - i.e. they have a strong sense of propriety, and a sense of inappropriate behaviour depending upon where they are. Having wild sex in ones parent's house might be felt to be shameful (even if they are away on holiday) but doing it in a love hotel -- well that is the place to do it. In a sense this is the opposite to number 4. Japanese are so shy about sex that they like to go to a sexy place to get turned on.

Since most N. Americans usually live alone or with a roommate after age 18, the demand for love hotels is less than Japanese who may live at home or in a company dormitory. People do use them when they pick up a hooker for a quicky and want to stay anonymous.
Sometimes couples will use them for fun-the ones with mirrors and hot tubs in the room can be pretty erotic if your girlfriend or wife is into it.
Is prostitution legal in this country? Does anyone know any website that gives a quick yes or no to whether prostitution is legal in every country of the world? I have read again and again in this forum that in Japan in most places it is essential to speak the language to be admitted. Believe it or not, Japanese think of blood type as an important factor in determinng one's personality and even suitablity for dating or marriage. This is also true in Taiwan but I cannot speak for other Asian countries. If you ever see web sites with Japanese singers or actors/actresses, they almost always have blood type listed along with other "vitals" like height, weight, etc.

This sounds backward to me, as it took me a while to get used to girls not being on the pill or using a diaphram, and exclusively relying on condoms here. Now the pill is here (thanks to Viagra-the old men in the Diet had to give in since they needed there own pill ASAP), but I doubt that many are using it.
I imagine a lot of J-girls are used to the guy taking the lead (and risks). Might also be why withdrawal and facials seem to be regular fare here.

Yeah, it is totally the culture here to not use condoms. I usually will use a condom the first time I do it with a J girl, but then after that she tells me I don'T need to, so I don't. I think as far as avoiding pregnancy the pull-out method is actually not so bad. I think the western press or media or whatever, has made us think that any kind of unprotected sex will result in pregnancy. I've been living in Japan over a year now and had mixed experiences with Japanese women as g/f. There ya have it! This is way too general a stereotype. Men may get theirs, and women may cheat, but no more that in any other western country.

I agree what I say might seem harsh! But it's just my commentary from direct experience (no articles, btw) and I've been coming here more than 5 years and now living here. I guess my advise would simply be cautious and understand the deep cultural history that forms a basic part of anyone's life. Compromise and communication are of course the key to any successful relationship - regardless of tenure, desu ne?

OK, since you've got more than a year under your belt, I grant you that there are some strange girls out there, and that with any international relationship there will be issues which might not arise if you dated a woman from home. I had one Japanese GF who was insanely jealous, and then another who had a second foreign boyfriend on the side (no secret though, and I didn't mind actually since we were just infrequent sex partners).
I personally think we are lucky to be in Japan, with legal sexworkers all around us and women who know how to care for a man. My experiences with Western women, while usually fun, always had more antagonism then I like (or perhaps I am too used to the East now).

The Palace Hotel is not in a great area for action. The nearest play districts (but not much FS) are the Yaesu side (bay side) of Tokyo station, the inland side of Shimbashi station and maybe the area around Kanda station. For a cheaper hotel try the Ibis in Roppongi, which is a better location.

For those who wonder what an "Este" is:
Usually run by Koreans or Chinese, there is a chance of FS, but just as likely you will get ripped off. These are unlicensed places, employing foreigners who may or may not be in Japan legally.
On the plus side, 90% of the time they will take non-Japanese, including white guys who don't speak Japanese.
A few will provide a decent massage, but that is hit and miss as well. They often make it a CBJ or CHJ (ouch), which is either safe or unsatisfying depending on your perspective. Sometimes they wil switch girls on you, or give you one who is totally unenthusiastic.
A Typical Menu:

I have not had problems getting my WSG buddies together with Delivery girls but I had to call and set it up. If you can figure out a way to convince the people who send out the girls that you are an native it will work. First you have to call the place and find out whether the delivery place is a Date Club/ Circle or a Delivery Fashion place. Delivery Fashion say that their service is like the service provided by Hinomaru or 21st Century, ie BBBJ or HJ with no FS. FS is possible if you can negotiate with the girl they send and if the girl they send doesn't freak that the person at the door is not a 'small' asian but a 'huge' Foreigner. I don't think one word answers will suffice for the entire transaction. Find someone who will act as an intermediary for you. A native or near native who will act as your mouthpiece. The person will have to either go to the hotel with you and get a room in the same building or be reachable quickly and reliablily by phone. This is necessary cause unless you are able to speak with the girl, how do you deal with an angry woman who doesn't enjoy having you go down on her or one who won't deliver what you think the people who sent her said would provide? It would be a long report but I don't recommend doing it unless it is an English speaking Escort service and even in this case be careful to get clear what the costs are up front. They send a dog, (YWDEISPY) you decline they charge you travel time and costs of 3-5K for waiting for this to show up and looking at it is it worth it?

I don't think you want a DH. I think you want a DC unless you are happy with paying more for less. DC girls will do the BJ/BBBJ/HJ and FS depending where you go and when you go you could get something good for 25K to 30K plus 4K to 5K for a hotel. You definitely need a cell phone, you could go to Costco and get a prepaid phone for less than 4K. I was there this evening and saw one. I may be missing something but I fail to see the value in a DH giving a HJ or covered BJ for Y20k+ plus hotel costs. Is this good value?
A few months back I was staying overnight in a city on the Japan sea coast. I phoned all the DHs I could get, and the seven or eight where a man answered the phone I knew I had no chance. At Dogenzaka in Shibuya they are going through a "no sticker" phase. I never thought I'd see it but the phone boxes are all clean and in each phone box they have a little pile of two multi-page brochures, each consisting of a collection of all the stickers that would be plastered over the phone booth a couple of months back.
The stickers advertise services starting at about 20k, going up to as much as 35k or more for two hours. I guess this tends to include FS or at least BBBJ. I have seen Chinese girls walking into the Dogenzaka hotels. But to my mind this is too espensive, especially if you include the hotel cost. Let me start off by thanking Sailing! He was an awsome host. This was not my first trip to Japan, but my best so far. I had just over a week in Japan and while I can't go day by day, I will hit the high points. Sun afternoon contacted Sailing and set up a time and meeting to go to the party he has talked about in previous posts. He met me and another wsg member and off we went. THe party was nice, a little intimidating at first then I realized some of the ladies spoke Korean as do I, although I was a little out of practice. I've had some hits, but more misses in Oomiya. There is a sure bet place in Higashi Oomiya. I haven't been there in awhile, but FS was guaranteed, and the girls are not hideous. Kado Ebi revisited
The Kado Ebi chain of soaplands (?) has been mentioned here before. I haven't gone to any of them, but there is one where I live, about an hour from Tokyo. It's in an out of the way part of town, really only accessible by car, which makes it unusual for a fuzoku in my experience. Most of them seem to be located near stations, business hotel areas, drinking areas, or some combination of the above. I'm guessing that they get a lot of business from truckers here. Maybe somebody else could clue me in.
Anyway, imagine my surprise when I was drinking at a local snack, staffed as usual by the mama only, about 58 years old, and she gave me and another two customers a plastic covered business card for Kado Ebi. Actually, it was one business card and about ten coupons, held together with a rubber band. The card has a picture of a nice looking young lady, and when you rub the plastic covering the card, her bikini top and bottom "disappear". The other two guys, strangers to me until that night, rubbed the picture and later left the card and coupons on the counter. After about an hour, I tucked mine into my backpack when I didn't think anyone was looking. I knew the mama didn't mind getting rid of them, but I didn't want to explain why I might need those coupons... :-)
Seeing the card for Kado Ebi there surprised me because the mama, who started the snack about 20 years ago when her dentist husband passed away, had never seemed to me to be the type to talk sex or to keep those kinds of things around. After being the beneficiary of the wonderful information on this site multiple times, I thought it would be my turn to contribute some information. Unfortunately this information came at a mighty high price with little precise information about the actual subject in mention.
Great R, I finally had a chance to strike out to Omiya with some money in hand and a lot of time. I immediately headed out to the red light district in Omiya, just outside the east exit of the station. After wandering around a few streets unsuccessfully, I was approached by a rather persistent tout. To get him off my back, I asked him if he knew about Bishin Club. He said he did and that he would show me. He said so in a way that implied that I would have to go to his shop. Well, his shop costed 5,000 yen, so I thought it would be like killing two birds with one stone and save me a lot of time. It turns out Bishin Club is difficult to find if you are just wandering the streets. But, in going to this man's club, I ended up paying about 5,000 yen for entry and another 15,000 for a good BBBJ with CIM by a half Chinese-half Japanese girl named Hana. The service and the girl weren't bad, but the price was unreasonable. But hey, I'm taking one for the team to find out the info. The shop to avoid is called VIP.
Well Bishin Club doesn't open till 7:00 pm. Since I was there earlier and spent most of my money over at the other place, I wasn't in the mood to go in after all was said and done. Here are the directions if you're still interested:
Go out the east exit and go right. Walk towards the McDonalds on the right (be careful as there are two McDonalds at the east exit, one on the immediate left and one on the far right). Right next to the McDonalds as you're coming from the station is a fairly large side street with lots of bright lights on your right. You really can't miss it. Go down that street a little ways and you'll see a Kotobuki Pachinko parlor on your right. There is a fairly large Karaoke place right next to it if you can read Katakana. With your back towards the karaoke place, you'll see a very small side street that isn't very well lit. On the corner you'll see a sign on the building in English and Katakana for a "Dramatic Pub" named Penthouse. If you see that small sign, you're going down the right street. Go down that small alley and you'll see very few stores and it feels like you're on the wrong street. After going down for awhile, you'll see the street open up and you'll see what looks like a fairly nice building that contrasts the shoddy buildings in the immediate area. Now I think the whole large sign is written in Japanese, but there is a website advertised for bishin.com (it doesn't work). It's written in English, so if you can't read any Japanese, you can still know you're in the right place if you see the web address. Now unfortunately, I can't read that much Japanese and I don't know exactly what kind of place it is, but it did mention "topless show" and two different floors. One of the floors was a gentleman's club and the other floor (4th) had the Kanji for both men and women entrance fees, so that isn't where any pro action is going to take place I think. If you have some time and if you're in the area, you could try your luck. Now that I know where it is, I'll go back and write down the phone number. Being the idiot that I am, I didn't have any pen and paper to write it down at the time.
Anyway, the VIP (rip-off) club is located straight down the street with the pachinko and karaoke place. It's on the left and is kind of tucked away. They said that having little or no Japanese ability didn't matter. For a better deal, head to the Esute on the fourth floor on the right called "Boa". It's a ways in from the main street, but you can spot it pretty easily even though it's not as gaudy. It costs about 10,000 yen for 50 minutes with a Korean beauty and massage/sumata. All payments are taken up front so there are no hidden charges. For anyone heading to Higashi Omiya for some odd reason, PM me for directions to the "companion" service a bit of a distance from the station. It's a good bargain for 8,500 yen (50 minutes) for FS with either Chinese or Koreans.

OK, one more note about the Bishin Club. The last time I checked it out, it wasn't open and I failed to write down any contact information. This last weekend, I had some time when I was in the area and turned up there at opening time at 7:00. I knew from the start that it would be foreigner friendly since the tout was non-Japanese. Here's the information I gathered from my stay there:
It's not a sex joint. It's a strip club/hostess club. There is no funny business on the premises. The show itself starts at 10:00 so plan on going later than the opening time of 7:00 unless you want to pay for fake companionship of the non-contact sort. Fees range from 5,000 for entry, 1,000 for the show, and drinks for the ladies. Just as Great R mentioned, the girls were very nice to look at. Unfortunately that's all you get to do. There was one named Ami (pronounced the same way Arnold Schwarzenegger would say "army") who was from Romania and very good looking but refused to speak English. She was eighteen and hot, but her personality left a lot to be desired especially for someone who works as a hostess. From what I gathered, most of the girls also dance on alternating nights. I think there was only one Japanese girl on the roster. In all, this little excursion set me back about 12,000 yen for the night. In conclusion, it wasn't all that great. If you're interested in a night at a strip club and hostess bar, then this combines both, but if you're interested in sex, then skip it and save your money.
Lion regarding your inquiry on the prices quoted for those soaps you mentioned. The price they are quoting is the entrance fee. all the extras like getting FS, BJ or even a HJ are added to the entrance fee. Often there is a qualifing kanji with the amount quoted saying that the fee is for entrance. This means you get a room with a bathtub and girl, what you do with the girl and how much the girls gets out of you is based upon your negociation with the girl. You are wrong about your not being able to get into one of the soaps however. Another WSG fellow came in from Singapor wanted very much to try out this service I talked to a porno actress friend of mine to find out which Soapland shop was gaijin friendly and took him there. I think it cost him 35K for the course. The girl spoke English and though in her late 20`s was in good shape and evidently satisfied whatever fantasies he may have had about this particular venue. If you walk around in Yoshiwara, (which is East of Minowa Station on the Hibiya subway line) you will get to the Yoshiwara area which is like the Akihabara of the trade. Just blocks of soaps, if the guy at the door talks with you, just find out what the charges are and if agreeable go with the flow.

In your area, try going to the fashion health shops in Kawaguchi. they are well known for giving FS to finish you off. As you look Japanese enough and though your Japanese isn`t that fluent they may service you as you are Nikkei enough. The fees vary from 10K to 15K the girls are Japanese but the time is rather short. Lets hook up again soon.

I could read the kanji regarding the entrance fee, but didn't see any other info on prices, hence my confusion. Some soaps do charge Y50,000 or more an hour, so those are probably including FS I imagine. I'm sure you're right about Tokyo, but I stuck out a number of times in Nagoya. The negotiation part is tricky when you don't know the usual price for the establishment, but I guess the door guys can be helpful on that point if they feel like it.

First, a disclaimer. I have never even tried to get into a soap. But if I recall from info on another board like this, the amount you pay inside typically is two or three times the entrance fee. The Japanese man who had that website even recommended asking the tout how much it would cost inside, saying something like Naka wa, nanbai desu ka? Hope other more fluent Japanese speakers can help me out here. Lion, I've been intrigued by some of the very reasonable prices listed for some soaps, too. If we can find a decent one in Tokyo that is reasonable, maybe we could go together so our increased buying power would impress our way through the door ;-)
As FS is technically illegal it would not be appropriate to post those prices. Entrance fee is a typically Japanese way of implying there may be additional costs. What those costs are depend upon your negociating skills.

depending on where you're at and how much time you have or choices you have you may be stuck. I think, though, that 20,000 is reasonable for FS in a soapland.

The Este Experience
I had been turned off by mediocre experiences in the past with Chinese whose primary goal was to increase the price and decrease the service to the point where I was sure never to return.
Recently I had a very positive experience at an out-of-the-way place, and now I feel there are 2 kinds of estes: rip-off ones that offer a quickie FS and real ones that employ profession masseuses who take their time and may be willing to flash a bit of skin and give HJ or CBJ, but that's it.

There was an interesting article in today's Japan Times about Watakano Island in Mie-ken. This island apparently has been a "hotbed of prostitution" for more than a hundred years. Recently, more and more of the women are Japanese, who come to the island to work because they know they can save up more cash in a short time than they could in a big city, what with the temptations for them like host clubs and Louis Vuitton shops.
"An estimated 50 women work out of the island's 10 okiya (houses of assignation), where the pleasure of their company runs between 20,000 yen and 40,000 yen." It seems you don't need a reservation at these places; just walk the streets and an older lady will hook you up with one of the ladies.

This isn't exactly a nampa report, so I guess it falls into this category better than any other. I had an AFF date the other night, and met the lady in Akasaka as per her request. (The next morning, I noticed on the sign outside that the rooms _start_ at 12,000 for "tomari" (stay).) I didn' t want to suggest looking for a cheaper room elsewhere, because she had been kind enough to guide me in this area, which I'm not familiar with. But the room turned out to be a real loser. Kind of looked like an old minshuku room, I kid you not. At least the bath was big enough for both of us. And the requisite queen size bed was there, of course.
Well, just wanted to post here to let you all know that Akasaka is not the place to go for a cheap night's stay in a love hotel.

This is not exactly a mongering report, but a little story and request for comments.

i did not come to japan to discover about the wine industry but to meet the girlfriend and stay with her family for a while. obviously, living with an extended family in a house with a wooden floor meant that there was absolutely no fooling around especially as the doors had no locks and her niece had this habit of opening my door at every opportunity to look in on me (dont as me why). mind you she also kept giving me pieces of paper and pens for some strange reason she must have thought i was an artists.
so obviously in this environment for a bit of privacy we required a love-inn hotel. these are rep001tered around asia but in my books some of the best ones are to be found in japan. i recall reading about these hotels and i am still searching for this one love-inn hotel that has a little swimming pool, with perspex see-through side in the room, i kid you not, unfortunately, i have yet to find that one.
in all small towns in japan there seems to be an abundant numbers of these establishments and a country like japan this is understandable, where many people live with extended families. its easy to identify them from the regular hotels since these ones tended to be lit up, las vegas style and have some pretty obvious names as hotel love, new york etc.
so anyway its around 8pm when my gf says to her parents that she is going to show me around town, in the dark, when to be honest i had already seen 90% of the town, i think they knew where we were really going. i was quite surprised when we arrived because it was quite busy in the area and by 8.30pm most of the hotels were already full up. we tried the newest one on the block, called hotel sonita and was surprised that it still had many rooms available, ok some of the others were much cheaper but not as nice this one had a touch screen room selection panel in the reception that gave you a imagine of the room on a 42 plasma screen. if you came in and there were no rooms available you obviously could not get a room.
i noticed that a young couple also looking for a room had an awful lot of baggage for the three hours session in the hotel but my gf said that some couples prefer to stay in these to ordinary hotels, as they are sometimes cheaper. the reason i am writing this post is because the room was quite impressive, so ok it did not have a swimming pool but it did have a jacuzzi, 22 channels to choose from including the three porn channels, playstation and karaoke on a 42 plasma screen (see photo). for anyone that has never visited one of these hotels before it was impressive, but the piece de resistance was most definitely the television screen in the bathroom so you could watch one of the porn channels or ordinary channel whilst enjoying the jacuzzi. (see photo) you can purchase a selection of sex toys (ok three vibrators), meals and some clothing (in one place had a maids, nurse & school girl uniform for hire) in these rooms and they provide two condoms, but take my advice and bring your own, i found the japanese ones a tad to dam tight. there was also a good size bed and light duvet not blanket, so comfortable that my gf fell asleep for a while.
the price for this room was 7,000 (u$62/34/50), for three hours, around 3,000 more than some of the other establishments nearby, hence the reason the others were busy, but at the same time offered a better standard of service and the best thing is you could make all the noise you wanted because the couple in the next room were using the karaoke machine but we never heard them until we passed their door on the way out. i dont know what the attraction is of this singing is myself, but each to their own.
you pay on the way out, using the machine ( see photo ) by the door that accepts various notes, but not credit cards, you would have to go down to the reception for that, but at the same time this is very discrete, not seeing any staff on the way in or out. my gf settled the bill promptly before i could put my hand in my pocket, so to speak and during my visit we visited three love-inn hotels but the hotel sonita was by far the best of the bunch.
the best touch i saw in the reception in one of the hotels we looked at, had a dancing doll of james brown, push the button and what to you get? yes, james browns singing i feel good i wonder if the godfather of soul knows about this?

I agree that those videos look staged (not sure if they are actors), but in my experiences at Soaplands, they are pretty accurate. The differences in my case were that I never tried to have intercourse while on the air mattress but instead waited until we rinsed off, dried, and moved to the bed. By the way, I always had young, nice looking women at the Soapland I visited, but sadly that (gaijin-friendly) Soapland went out of business.

I normally contribute to the China Forum, and I need a bit of advice.

A word of warning. Say what you will about Japanese men but, they are experts on Japanese women and you are courting an unusual one. Keep in mind that her husband is willing to part with her for a reason and it might be a good one. It might not be a bad idea to plan make your move in 20 months and at a time when you can blame alcohol in the event of failure.

Yeeah, I got this book a few years back. It is called JAPAN'S SEX TRADE by Peter Constantine, published in 1994 (may be later reprints).
The island you mentioned is Watakano, accessed from Anakawa Stn. It seems the place is Yakuza controlled, and they have strict controls on who visits.

then there were a couple issues that i got confused in my memory over time since i saw the show. i remember them talking about enjo kosai, and i think there was some reference to it involving high school age girls but the show didn't give the impression that the term 'enjo kosai' refers strictly to high schoolers, and that it also references girls 18 and older. a quick check with wikipedia seems to confirm this, but wiki seems to give a stronger emphasis to the h.s. angle, and that it doesn't always involve sex, etc.
so one of my questions is, how is the term 'enjo kosai' understood by most japanese?
is it a situation where the meaning depends on the context? like in the us with the word 'escort', the meaning is understood based on the situation. is it the same with 'enjo kosai', that depending on the situation, a person would understand whether you were referring to a younger girl or an adult female?

here's the deal. i live in a college town, and there is a fair number of japanese students. of course they tend to stick together to a certain degree, working and hanging out at karaoke bars and sushi restaurants. i've often wondered how one could best go about seeking out an arrangement with one of these girls.

her business goes south, ex-hubby starts contributing less to her, she takes all three kids. money is tight, she puts up the ad again, then quickly withdraws it and only keeps about a dozen customers, whittles it down to 2-3, then again down to just me. amazingly, she repeats the cycle a third time. but by now she's getting wierd on me, she's kinda old and bitchy, going through the change, doesn't enjoy the sex anymore etc sorry to bore with the details. in a nutshell, its over and i haven't seen her in years.
the moral of the story is that she seems to reflect much of what i seem to be hearing about general attitudes. again i hate to extrapolate too much and overly generalize from a single relationship, but here's what i assume, please support or correct me with the following lessons.
first, it seems that for women that haven't directly chosen a career of prostitution (soapies, etc) there's not a strong aversion for most women to get paid directly for sex, as long as they don't feel like they are a career prostitute. if she has a career or is a student, if she only does it for merchandise or if its only an occasional thing, and if its not with large numbers of strangers, etc, then its not really prostitution per se; then its just 'enjo kosai' or 'compensated dating.'
secondly, it seems as if their society doesn't look down on regular prostitution, and much less so on more fixed arrangements like the hubby with one regular girl.
third, it seems that once the girl starts receiving the proceeds, its as if she feels like she needs that income, or deserves it, or can't live without the extra merchandise and lifestyle that is now affordable to her. a sense of entitlement creeps in and its hard for the girl to cut it off and go back to how things were before she started receiving the income or gifts.
fourth, the girls seem less fearful of really bad things happening. somehow they feel pretty safe. and yet there's a certain thrill or rush, similar to hitch-hiking cross country.
so i'm wondering if there are any lessons i can learn from the one lady i knew; and from the show i saw and the limited research. am i far off the mark so far?
now for the real nitty gritty. i know this is an extremely long post with lots of questions but i'm hoping a few of you can pitch and help me out. do i have much chance of success trying to get something going with a japanese college student in the us? i'm a pretty average looking middle aged guy. i'm not shy around girls but to be honest, i don't "got game" which is primarily why i'm a hobbyist in the first place.
i don't speak japanese. i don't want to learn to speak it, but i'd have no problem learning several phrases or words. i'd even be willing and able to learn a hundred or more words if there was a need.

I can see your point that many of the girls that get over here come from big money. At least, they're of a different breed than japanese that never get too far from the farm. Also many are incredibly driven and focused on school. But on the other hand, I do see potential in a couple areas. It seems that many of the girls (and young men for that matter) do kinda need to work a little to maintain a certain lifestyle. But even if a kid is living pretty comfortably, there's always that next thing or two on a person's "wish list" that's just beyond daddy's allowance.
When I see them hanging out or working I get a sense that there's potential... somewhere, somehow. If you are so good with foreigners, then you should have no problem getting a J-girl for a temp GF (although I am wondering what your age is-if you are over 35 it will be a challenge to school with a 20yr old). I'm based in the US and I've had decent luck with nampa outside of Japan. In fact, my biggest score (former mid 30's Japanese starlet) happened outside of Japan. My nampa outside of Japan falls into two categories: plain luck, and the Internet.
The starlet was just plain luck. I was at the right place at the right time. I didn't know who she was and I treated her like a normal girl. Once her friend told me the deal, I backed off a bit. In the end, she asked me for my number! I've managed to date three J college girls over the last two years that I met on the Internet. Each of these cases were fairly difficult to set up though.
I think you have two choices here. The first is you can go out and hit the karaoke places near you and hope to break one from the pack. Doing this without a wing-man will be difficult especially given you're over 40. If you do try this, look for groups of three. You have a much better chance pulling one away (or getting a phone number) in this situation. The second is to try your luck on the Internet. This is hit or miss as well, but you never know. Both of these are probably true, however, Asian foreigners also suffer from being restricted, and I don't think Asians provoke penis envy or penis fear. :-)
I think it's more than these two items.
Contamination is one, scaring off their customer base, in other words. I think some places just don't want to deal with gaijin because so much of the fuzoku business is based on unspoken understanding and trust that the customer "knows the system." Fairly or unfairly, foreigners in Japan are often viewed as dirty, smelly and crude.
Lack of cultural norms behavior may be another. Bad experiences with loud, drunken foreigners, demanding services not offered, etc. go a long way to ruining it for everyone who follows.

regarding stinky and crude foreigners: i also saw some japanese in my life, who acted and looked like far away from being the most clean ones. but nobody is perfect. but if this reason would be really valid, why do japanese men allow themselves to do mongering onto foreign thai or philipin pussies in their homelands? sounds paradox, eh?

I have seen both do very well without luxury hotels, expense accounts, etc. Just keeping the vibe positive and understanding the little emotional and under $20 material luxuries that J-women want puts them in a good place.

If it works for you and you have the resources then fine. Finished up a stay at Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel in Shibuya. If you're traveling on corporate's dime, definitely recommend this hotel. Very close to the entertainment scene surrounding Shibuya 109, easily a 5-7 minute walk. L/S, G-Style and Garden are right across the street too. If you arrive via Haneda airport, catch the Shibuya Station bus at stop #14 outside of the baggage claim area (Y1,000). This bus stops at The Cerulean and also the Mark City Dept Store. Depending on traffic, bus ride from airport is about an hour.

Since this is a problem that occurs in places other than Tokyo as well, I thought it worth starting into here.
There has been the odd comment about how the Japan threads are slow, how people aren't necessarily sharing information. Places that get mentioned here often change their policies towards foreign clientele shortly thereafter - because there are some folk here that go in and ruin it for the rest of us.
AAA and Mermaid in Yokohama. L/S in Shibuya, Hinomaru's Ikebukuro store, (reportedly) several of the pink salons in Sugamo. Virtually every shop listed on Tokyo Pink Guide (which is why the fellow running that site gave up on updating the English side).
I know a few tenchos (shop managers) of places that have adopted no-foreigner policies (or at least, no foreigners who can't speak Japanese policies). The reasons they give for changing their policies:
1) Gaijin who demand or attempt to force activities that are not on the menu - generally FS or anal. This is the most common reason. If full service is on the menu, the girl will make that very clear - otherwise, assume it's not on offer.
2) Gaijin who make excessive noise in the establishments. Think of how much noise you're hearing from the other clientele - not much, right?
3) Gaijin who attempt to haggle. Japan is not Mexico or Malaysia. Prices are generally fixed.
Those are the main reasons - some folk here need to keep them in mind.
There are also some shops that entertained limited access to foreigners - meaning that they would accept, for example, other east Asians but deny access to south Asians, who extended to a ban on all foreigners because they were tired of certain segments of the gaijin community complaining about being denied access.
Right or wrong, there is an established hierarchy (in the eyes of most Japanese) among the various types of foreigner in Japan.
Caucasians are the most "acceptable", then American/European blacks, then East Asians, then Southeast Asians, and South Asians and Middle Easterners, wand Africans finally take the bottom rungs. East Asians become more/less favored depending on how many news stories about foreign crime have been in the news. Discrimination may also come for other reasons - many Korean establishments refuse to entertain Koreans, and many Russian/European staffed establishments refuse Caucasians. The girls don't wish to run into someone from home.
Please do not mistake this as my agreement with this systematic discrimination - I think that any shop that turns away willing punters with money in hand is being terribly short sighted and missing out on potential profit.
But the fact remains that this is the way the foreign community is pigeonholed by many of the locals, and it's not going to change quickly.
So, if you are turned away from a shop that you know has serviced other members here - don't raise a fuss.
It could be that they don't like your particular branch of the genetic tree, it could be language ability, it could simply be that all the girls who take foreigners decided to take a trip to Disneyland that day. Politely apologize for the misunderstanding and go down the road to another place - there's always another place willing to take your dosh.
You may also be pleasantly surprised to find that the next time you pass that particular shop you get waved over and invited in as they remember the politeness you expressed the last time - it's happened to me more than once.

He was rather shocked to hear that and said no gaijin sorry. But the second day I walked pass the same soap land running into the same guy. He immediately recognized me and welcomed me in for another look. Inside he told me He asked the boss and the place was 'Asian looking Japanese speaking Gaijin OK'. Ofcourse it I was running to a date and had to decline.
Well what I learned was that if you are Asian, clean cut, Speaks basic Japanese and very gentleman like, You have as high of a chance to get into soaps as Native Japanese. Good luck.

So - unfortunately there is nothing you can do legally to require ANY kind of establishment to accept a foreigner into the place of business. This carries over into all sorts of places - not only pink industry.
Luckily Japanese women typically have no discrimination about whom they date - and in fact, we foreigners have much better success than the Japanese. So, I just encourage you to practice a little nanpa before you hit the soaplands.
Also - just call the establishment on the telephone before you go there. This saves alot of time and hassle. The basic rule is that if you know enough Japanese to make this simple call - AND the establishment will accept foreigner that day - you will get a YES. Otherwise you will get a NO. Their poilicy is exactly the same whether you call or drop-in. And in fact you 'll have higher chance if you call (IMO).

I've just moved to Tokyo and yesterday I noticed a Philippina bar called, just that! In Kabuki-cho. Now my question is, I've been warned about bars in Kabuki by Japanese friends overseas. Apparently going on your own is asking for hassles. The service price board mentioned 1,500 yen for 90 minutes.
I like Filippinas and as yet cannot speak Japanese.
Anyone know that bar?

Each word you mentioned is very true.
Japan is a country, where they respect and treat well in turn.(same with other country, one might say.). I have noticed, not for just these reason, but in general though, coutersy and politeness really pays you. These people are kind and wish others treat them the same.
So if you are refused for some reason, just back-off, no point in pushing harder on it. Remember some of these places are run by some unknown people (you know who) and arguing about anything will get you in more trouble.
So just say OK, understood and carry on.
Since this is a problem that occurs in places other than Tokyo as well, I thought it worth starting into here.
There has been the odd comment about how the Japan threads are slow, how people aren't necessarily sharing information. Places that get mentioned here often change their policies towards foreign clientele shortly thereafter - because there are some folk here that go in and ruin it for the rest of us.
AAA and Mermaid in Yokohama. L/S in Shibuya, Hinomaru's Ikebukuro store, (reportedly) several of the pink salons in Sugamo. Virtually every shop listed on Tokyo Pink Guide (which is why the fellow running that site gave up on updating the English side).
I know a few tenchos (shop managers) of places that have adopted no-foreigner policies (or at least, no foreigners who can't speak Japanese policies). The reasons they give for changing their policies:
1) Gaijin who demand or attempt to force activities that are not on the menu - generally FS or anal. This is the most common reason. If full service is on the menu, the girl will make that very clear - otherwise, assume it's not on offer.
2) Gaijin who make excessive noise in the establishments. Think of how much noise you're hearing from the other clientele - not much, right?
3) Gaijin who attempt to haggle. Japan is not Mexico or Malaysia. Prices are generally fixed.
Those are the main reasons - some folk here need to keep them in mind.
There are also some shops that entertained limited access to foreigners - meaning that they would accept, for example, other east Asians but deny access to south Asians, who extended to a ban on all foreigners because they were tired of certain segments of the gaijin community complaining about being denied access.
Right or wrong, there is an established hierarchy (in the eyes of most Japanese) among the various types of foreigner in Japan.
Caucasians are the most "acceptable", then American/European blacks, then East Asians, then Southeast Asians, and South Asians and Middle Easterners, wand Africans finally take the bottom rungs. East Asians become more/less favored depending on how many news stories about foreign crime have been in the news. Discrimination may also come for other reasons - many Korean establishments refuse to entertain Koreans, and many Russian/European staffed establishments refuse Caucasians. The girls don't wish to run into someone from home.
Please do not mistake this as my agreement with this systematic discrimination - I think that any shop that turns away willing punters with money in hand is being terribly short sighted and missing out on potential profit.
But the fact remains that this is the way the foreign community is pigeonholed by many of the locals, and it's not going to change quickly.
So, if you are turned away from a shop that you know has serviced other members here - don't raise a fuss.
It could be that they don't like your particular branch of the genetic tree, it could be language ability, it could simply be that all the girls who take foreigners decided to take a trip to Disneyland that day. Politely apologize for the misunderstanding and go down the road to another place - there's always another place willing to take your dosh.
You may also be pleasantly surprised to find that the next time you pass that particular shop you get waved over and invited in as they remember the politeness you expressed the last time - it's happened to me more than once.

But to answer your questions:
1) Filipina bars are generally hostess bars, not "service" establishments. The system usually works out to around 3,000-6,000 yen per hour to sit and chat with attractive women at your table. Touching is generally NOT allowed. You can sometimes make arrangements for other deals outside, but most of the women in these establishments are not P4P. The one you mention in Kabukicho is one of those.
2) Non-working or freelancer Filipinas can often be found in Roppongi, frequently in one of the Motowns. Be careful that you're not chatting up a ladyboy though.

Good report, Lion, and based on my experience with virtually dozens of such agencies in Tohoku, Oita, Fukuoka and Saga, I concur with just about all you say. The FS thing, though, I've found seemingly varies from one prefecture or even one city to another.
For example, In Tohoku, I used the services of 4 different women from one agency, and 3 of them gave me FS w/o extra charge (I told all of them up front I wanted FS), while the 4th one asked for an extra 5,000.
In Oita, on the other hand, I got serviced from nearly 3 dozen women from around 15 different agencies and was asked for extra (1 man) by only one of them. In an article on CNN or Yahoo,I don't remember which, it was reported that one can never wipe all info off your mobile phone.
You best bet is getting another mobile ( 2nd hand perhaps) with a sim card that is not registered anywhere, that can be filled as per use with a phone card, or as Orange calls it 'pay as you go'. Thailand has 1 2 call as another example.
Some phone sets also have programmable codes that can be used to keep any unauthorized person from getting into the phone.
Even if not married why leave anything to chance when for a small fee one can keep that part of ones life reasonably private.
Some guys have a lot to lose, especially if kids are involved. It's not so easy as to just say, "whatever" and be done with it for some mongers. Fear of getting caught is part of the thrill and fun, too. Minimizing that is part of the game. I'm neutral on this and I believe in letting the chips fall but I know some guys who just can't do that, although, subconsciously, they probably feel that way.

I have always believed that one of the main reasons so many brothels in Japan refuse gaijin is the fear that their customers will go elsewhere. Pair robs sex shop in Kawasaki of 8 million yen
KAWASAKI -- Two men sprayed a chemical at the face of a sex shop employee here early Monday and made off with 8 million yen, police said.
The 63-year-old employee suffered slight injuries. Police are searching for the robbers, who appeared to be in their 20s or 30s and were wearing balaclavas.
At about 6:30 a.m. on Monday, two men broke into the office of S & G, a company that operates sex shops, in Kawasaki-ku, sprayed a chemical at the employee's face and threatened him with a wrench, local police said.
They hit him in the back of the head and demanded money. They made off with 8 million yen in cash from a safe.

Blow up love-doll business puts boom into boom-boom
Blow-up love dolls used to be distinctive for the open-mouthed looks on their faces, but now it's interested onlookers whose astonished countenances are notable as Japan's market for artificial amour booms, according to Shukan Shincho (3/8).
Aside from skyrocketing sales of the love dolls themselves, recent innovations in the fake female field include rental rooms and escort services that cater to those looking to make out with mannequins, and even magazines focused on the dolls that show how "getting blown" has adopted an entirely different meaning when it comes to some Japanese sexual practices.
Love doll escort services usually throw the blow-up babes, affectionately referred to in Japan as "Dutch wives," into golf bags or the like and carry them to customers' homes, where they're left depending on the course that has been selected. A 60-minute session costs 5,000 yen, while a 3-night, 4-day sojourn will set back the lover of latex a hefty 35,000 yen.
Love doll rental rooms, meanwhile, offer space where a client can peacefully pump plastic, so to speak. One example of pricing the magazine offers is a membership fee of 1,000 yen, another 1,000 yen to rent space in the rental room, then 9,000 yen for every hour with the doll.
"Nearly all of our customers fall in their 20s to 50s," a Tokyo love doll rental room worker tells Shukan Shincho. "Customers are generally salarymen, but we get otaku (dweeb) types, too."
Among the dolls on offer at the rental rooms are those that are buxom, childish or even made to look like cartoon characters so they appeal to the otaku.
Rental rooms lend out spaces about 18 meters square and dolls are left waiting for customers when the areas are unoccupied. When the customers do come, it's not always a pleasant experience.
"The dolls are about 150 centimeters tall and weigh around 30 kilograms. That's pretty heavy, you know! And you don't know where the doll's weight is going to be placed. Moving them around can turn out to be a fairly demanding task. Taking their clothes off is hard work, too. The dolls don't move, so it's actually a fairly grueling job," a 20-something customer of a love doll service tells Shukan Shincho. "The skin is a bit cold, but it's taut and almost like a real human's skin. The nipples are fantastic -- exactly like real ones. The doll has a hole between its legs into which you can insert an adult aid made to resemble a woman's vagina. This feels identical to the real thing, too, except you need to use lube before you stick it in. Once you're inside, it's tight, probably better than a real one. But the eyes keep looking at you the whole time and there is absolutely no reaction. I gave up on the missionary position and tried to do it while sitting up, but the bloody doll was too heavy and I couldn't use it right."
Hideo Tsuchiya is not surprised to hear a love doll fan say they feel better than a real person. Tsuchiya is the president of Oriental Kogyo, Japan's prime purveyor of love dolls over the past three decades.
"In the blow-up days, the dolls had no strength and they were virtually like toys. That made people doubtful. That led to the start of improvements by making the face and breasts with a soft vinyl and the body with urethane," Tsuchiya says. "Now, we're seeing the results of many years of research, with the main part of the business seeing dolls given silicon bodies that have an elasticity similar to people and a feel that is almost real. Prices for dolls start at around 130,000 yen and can go up to about 600,000 yen. We sell about 50 dolls a month. You can buy replaceable heads for them, too."
Japan has about 10 love doll manufacturers. Their activities are closely watched by the publishers of "Aidroid," a magazine for men who like plenty of silicone with their slap and tickle.
"We publish about 10,000 copies an issue," the managing editor tells Shukan Shincho. "Love dolls are expensive. When you buy one, it's only natural you want to learn as much about it as you can. We try to get as much information about new products as we can, which is one of our sales points. Love dolls are getting lighter. I posted this some time ago on WSG, figured it may be of use to some people on here.
As is well known a substantial portion (I would say the great majority) of the Japanese sex industry is off limits to gaijin (non-Japanese).
When the chips are down this is because of ignorance and laziness.
Here are some of the contributing factors as to why gaijin are not allowed into Japanese run, Japanese staffed, sex establishments, some are just bullshit excuses, some are things that these simple-ass-motherfuckers genuinely believe:
(I am stating these rules as if I were one of the guys who works the door at one of these places, these are not my opinions)
- Gaijin dont speak/understand Japanese.
- Gaijin have STDs
- Gaijin are simply not capable of comprehending the rules.
- Gaijin who have been told the rules by an English speaking Japanese person will always break the rules specifically they will always try and fuck the girls
- Japanese girls do not like Gaijin
- Gaijin cause trouble
- Gaijins penises are too big and the girls cant fit them in their mouths.
- Gaijin dont have Japanese passports and you need a Japanese passport to pay for sex in Japan.
- All gaijin look the same age, its impossible to tell if they are of legal age to enter.
- The Chinese mass produce fake ID for gaijin criminals so having Japan produced ID that states your age is not really proof of age for the purpose of entering.
- You might be an international journalist trying to find some sordid story with which to tarnish Japan's reputation.
Id be glad to hear any other reasons/excuses yall have ever heard.
What it all boils down to is that these places make quite enough money from Japanese customers only and they cant be fucked with dealing with gaijin too.
Japan is a country that over-reacts.
You buy something in a shop and they often seal the shopping bag shut with sello-tape because before this was standard practice there were people who would buy 1 thing then shop lift putting stuff into the bag.
No doubt over the years that have been various non-Japanese that have caused various problems in various sex establishments. Rather than actually thinking about the nature, cause and solution to these problems (something that is quite hard for the average Japanese person because such an approach is discourage by the Japanese education system) they just go well this must of happened because that customer was not Japanese! it would never occur to them that maybe the dude was just drunk, or an asshole, or had a bad day, etc, and God forbid it should ever be any fault of their own staff (though that would surprise me they run a tight ship and Ive never had a girl with the slightest attitude problem).
For the record I have set foot in over 50 healths/image clubs/esutes and received service in less than 10 of them. There is one crap-ass city in the north of Japan where I have been into every single establishment in the city and been turned away from all but 4 of them (out of about 20).
Additionally most red light districts have places where none of the girls are Japanese and in those places its usually no problem being non-Japanese, but IMO you are unlikely to get the same quality of service from those girls (although it is much more likely that you will be able to actually fuck them).

To balance my other post about why we get turned away here are some tips for getting turned away as little as possible.
Feel free to add you own tips.
It's worth noting that even if you follow all of these tips most places will still refuse you service.
*- Look for places that are newly opened, they won't have regular customers and can't afford to turn anyone away without good reason* - this is by far the best tip I can offer!
- Speak Japanese.
- Go at off-peak times such as weekday afternoons, heavy rain.
- Don't go at peak times (pretty much every evening).
- Don't be wanting to pay by credit card.
- Dress presentably.
- As soon as you walk in, like before the guy at the counter gets a chance to react to you, tell them (in Japanese) what you want - don't order the cheapest course: one reason they don't like gaijin is because they are all cheap skates. If you know the names of some of the girls that work there ask if they are working today.
- NEVER walk in and say "hi, gaijin wa, ok desu ka?"
- Make it abundantly clear that you understand the rules, you will not try and fuck the girls and only want a blow job (unless you are ordering an AF/anal course).
- Tell them that you have been in other places before.
- Be sober.
- Be polite, and try and use to Japanese mannerisms.
- Be smaller than the dude behind the counter: if you are bigger than him he is gonna be thinking that if you do cause trouble he won't be able to subdue you.
- Don't be black or south asian (not sure about being middle eastern, latin, or other asian).
- By all means swing by one of those information booths, and IF there are no Japanese punters in there see if the guy can help you find somewhere, if there are Japanese punters they will almost definately refuse to help you.
- If you have seen their website, and it is great (well produced), and all their girls are hot 18 or 19 year olds, then sure stick your head in on the off chance, but I have never been accepted in one of these places, they are so popular that I wouldn't be suprised if they turn Japanese customers away too. (If their website and girls are not 1st class then you are in with a chance).

You will have much better luck at Chinese places. A little less luck at Korean places. Most probably bad luck at Japanese places. (all assessments statistical) This all assumes you follow the basic advice to only try during slack times and avoid busy times or when there are Japanese waiting.

Yes, the key is "Japanese skill." If you're one of the typical Westerner English speakers in Japan who's too friggin' lazy, uncaring, or whatever to learn the language of the land (and I mean literacy, too, not just small talk BS), then expect to have endless trouble trying to get laid unless you pay double the usual rate for English-speaking services such as Club Boo & AM. Even if you become fluent in Japanese, however, you will still be able to enter only a handfull of sex establishments--unless you happen to be of Japanese/Korean/Chinese descent--because of your appearance.
On the other hand, if you can read the websites of deriheru agencies, you can have an endless pick of women at any time of the night or day, and you won't have to deal with touts, sit around in waiting rooms, etc. I've used the service of 5-6 dozen women from more than 2 dozen agencies in 4 different prefectures from far north to far south and been refused service by only less than a handful. Even some who originally detected from my speaking that I was not Japanese and thus didn't want to give me service gave in when I explained to them that yes, I was a gaijin, but a Caucasion American who had lived in Japan a long time, was a college professor, and had used deriheru service numerous times in the past so understood the system very well.
I can also tell you that it is almost never the woman who objects to the foreigners, but the men who run everything in Japan. Of the dozens of deriheru women I've had experience with, only a handful acted at all hesitant, and some of those (the really young ones) may have been because of the age difference (I'm middle aged) as much as or more than the fact that I was gaijin. For 80% or more of them, the reaction (after the initial shock/surprise at my white face) ranged from OK to very positive. Many of them said things like "suteki!" or later told me they had always been curious about what it would be like to screw a foreigner; a couple even admitted that they'd always had a strong desire to try one. And of course, they were universally relieved and appreciative when they found out I could speak and understand their language so they didn't have to worry about struggling to communicate, etc. Thus, if your Japanese skills are even moderately good, you can get laid just about any time of the night or day in just about any place you want without the humiliation of rejection after rejection by the yakuza front men one has to deal with in streetside establishments.
