This really depends on the cabbie, I suppose. A few of them can speak a little English, even fewer can speak moderate English. Don't count on them speaking any English, though.I would get in a cab and just say, "Yoshiwara, onegai shimasu..."After you're in transit, you can speak in nouns and verbs to get your point across. Hopefully, the cabbie will be receptive to this. You can leave out the particles (wa, ni, etc.) because those are easy to screw up.If it's clear you're a foreigner, then your speaking style will be appropriate. If he thinks you're Japanese, then you need to make it clear that you're a foreigner.Something simple like, "Soaplando iki-tai" (I want to go to a soapland). Wait for the nod or grunt, assuming he acknowledges.Then something simple like, "Gaijin-daijobu soaplando, doko desu ka?" which roughly means (Gaijin-no problem soapland, where is it?)If he's receptive so far, then you'll probably be OK. If not, then you'll probably need to walk around and talk to touts. Assuming he's receptive, you might communicate your budget. Depending on what that is, "ni man en" (20,000), "san man en" (30,000), etc., it will give him more information.I've rode in hundreds of cabs and I've found the variance extremely wide. My advice is to avoid a lady cabbie. Some cabbies are extremely friendly and helpful and others are just plain rude and unhelpful.

I did some serious legwork today and found a Korean esute that services gaijin (no blacks according to the shop manager, sorry). Basic Japanese is required (you must be able to understand the rules, take prompts from the lady when she wants to you move, turn over, etc.). I'm not conversational but I know enough to understand what they're saying.I've talked to quite a few managers in my broken Japanese now and I get a sense as to the "gaijin-problem" so to speak. It pretty much hinges on their fear of a gaijin demaning FS. Remember that the Japanese often have "no means yes" and "yes means no" in their communication so it's understandable that a gaijin can miscommunicate. They find it difficult to be absolutely sure that no FS is available. @land/NYNY/Champs all make it very clear that no FS is available. @land even has a crib sheet that the mamasan hands to you. She speaks English very well, too. I think many of the Korean esute that turned me down just didn't want to deal with the risk of mis-communication. I got turned down at eight esute before this one gave me service. I was basically on a mission with a large list of candidates, culled from the Internet and took one for the team. Too many drunk idiots kill it for us. One idiot can really traumatize a lady and shop manager, I could imagine. Thanks to Viagrant for the info. With help of his map my GPS unit (to make sure I was going the right way), I found Yoshiwara. The touts spoke Japanese to me as I was going down the street. I did later approach a few and asked if foreigners were allowed. After being told no by a few, I found once that said yes and told me 35K for 2 hours, 2 pops. After picking the girl, they told me 75K! That was way out of my budget and $ I had. Later he got it down to 35K for just 90 minutes...more than enough for me.The place was Blue something (forget the 2nd part of the name) I had a pretty good time but had a problem communicating since I know no Japanese. I was a little alarmed about here giving me a BBJ at the beginning and later a little while in the tub (brief one). If I were you I would ask directions of any good looking woman you see in English. Any one who will talk with you and may even take you to the station would be a prime candidate for hitting on later. If you insist on taking a cab, taking one from the Tokyo Disney land area to Ueno would set you back 6-7K yen. Taking one from the Tokyo Tower area of Tokyo Bay would set you back 5-6K yen. This would go up about 20% after 11pm. Please understand that giving a cab driver the address of the place you want to go does not necessarily guarantee that you will get there. Address in Japan are unlike address in the US so unless you have a cab driver who has a GPS system in his car you are going to be out of luck.Compare this with 2-300 yen by train and you can see that trains are the way to go. If you have got time i.e. you don't have to be somewhere by a particular time getting lost in Tokyo can be alot of fun. You can choose who you will meet by being choosy about who you ask for help. I again would go for good looking women to ask directions from and perhaps thanking them by taking them out for a cup of coffee or something.

If you know how to get to Shimbashi by Monorail (one stop from Takebashi - Tokyo Bay area) you get out of the Station at Shimbashi and get into JR Yamanote Station take the Yamanote Line towards Ueno. You can also catch the Kehintoyoko line. Kehintoyoko Line has a express which brings you to Ueno in 9 mins.Tokyo Bay is a Culture Area, I am not sure you can find any Soapland in those area. Shimbashi is a better bet. I've used Club Boo around 4 times, and each time was very satisfactory. Fujiko has an amazingly Western-type body! I was in Tokyo last month for business and because of a very schedule I only had one free evening to monger. Gyaos:I agree with you. Everything is relative, but Japan is not like it was during the 1980's when melons cost Y10000 and salarymen had huge expense accounts to pump the price of everything. Additionally, compared to the US where I'm originally from, with the exception of the state of Nevada where sex at certain brothels is legal but costs many hundreds of dollars with a limited selection of ladies of questionable attractiveness, Japan is a real bargain. For about Y3000, a gaijin can go to a pink salon and get a perfectly legal BJ. I don't think you can even come close to that in the US.
