First of all, there are two airports to KUL, the big ultra modern one, KLIA, and the older Low Cost Carrier (LCC) airport. This is only of note because my favorite airline in SE Asia, Air Asia, uses the LCC airport. The city is 30 miles away, so transport to and from becomes an issue. From KLIA, there is an express train that gets you back and forth in 28 minutes. Quick and simple. From LCC, you have to take a cab. There are other options, but they suck (believe me, I tried them). The take home point is, try to fly into KLIA. Your life will be much easier.
Secondly, get your hotel on Bukit Bintang St. Most of the great restaurants, nightlife, and extracurriculars are in this area. There is no point in staying anywhere else. You will definitely end up coming here for fun. And the thing is, the traffic here is terrible, so taxi drivers HATE taking passengers here and will charge you extra. Just do yourself a favor and stay as close to Bukit Bintang Street as you can, if not on it. I stayed at the close by Impiani, which is a Hilton type hotel, only because I got a fantastic deal, a $250 room for $100, that I couldn't pass on. Otherwise, I would recommend the Radius International Hotel. It's about $70 / night, literally in the middle of all the nightlife, and to top it all off, has one of the best 'renowned' Spas in the area. Check out a recent ROD on the spas that covers it pretty well.
I was very impressed by the nightlife in KUL. Lots of clubs and bars, all of them slick and polished, and all in a concentrated area. I was in KUL for the weekend, and it seemed like all of them were packed. Not only that, but there seemed to be working girls everywhere. I have never seen a city where working girls were so pervasive and integrated into the mainstream nightlife. The famous Beach Club had what seemed like 30-40 working girls each night, many of them very attractive. But the BC was also just a very successful and happening bar / club in general. Packed every night with mainstream partygoers.
KUL looks like a great scene. If I was fresh out of college, looking to work overseas to build my resume, I would definitely consider coming here over Bangkok. On the downside, the girly scene isn't quite as good. The WG crowd is dominated by Vietnamese girls, the issues of which have been well described. It's a little pricier, but the Spas, also well described in a recent ROD, partially offset that. It's also a little hotter, if you can imagine that. But the general nightlife and food are better. The regional tourism opportunities are also better. Borneo and Bali rock! KUL gives off a very hip vibe. In comparison, Bangkok seems cliché and played out. Other travelers be forewarned, however. The nightlife scene is definitely skewed to the younger. Most frequent travelers to the Phillipines wouldn't fit in here.

From KLIA, there is an express train that gets you back and forth in 28 minutes. Quick and simple. From LCC, you have to take a cab. There are other options, but they suck (believe me, I tried them). The take home point is, try to fly into KLIA. Your life will be much easier.There is a 3rd airport to access KL. It's Subang (IATA airport code SZB) , and Firefly Airlines operates there. Subang is a mere 30 minutes from KL (exclude peak hours traffic jam). Subang (and adjacent areas like Subang Jaya and PJ) is also a "happening" place by its own right. Residents here prefer to play here than to brave the traffic to KL.
Firefly Airlines fly to / from Singapore (Changi Terminal 2, not Changi Budget) from / to SZB. International traveller can access KL via Singapore by using Firefly to fly from Singapore to Subang. KUL (both main and LCC) is in the middle of nowhere, and SZB is right smack in the middle of the happenings.

During my brief stay in KL last week I stayed at Fraser Place, which is only 100m from Beach club. As a first time visitor to KL, I thought I would have a quick look to see what BC was like.

I take the bus from KL central to LCCT for 10 RM there are 3 bus line that service here so one every 10 min it take about 45 min, there are also bus from Pudu bus station near chinatown, the express train only go to KLIA only.

Firstly there is a direct bus service from KLIA to LCCT which runs regularly and takes about 30 minutes travel time. I have made this connection several times no probs.
Secondly, transport from LCCT to KL Sentral is no probs Taxi is by far the most expensive. There are many bus services I think about 10-15 ringits. You can also for about the same cost take a coach to Salak Tinggi train station and do the rest of the trip in the train. Once at KL Sentral take a train or walk about 400 metres to the monorail station. Most hotels are pretty close too train or monorail.

My feeling is that they must have made enough with a few customers who paid big dollars and can afford to pick and choose customers. Bangkok and Macau are better on quality for the money you pay in KL or Singapore.

I think both you guys are wrong. Firstly there is a direct bus service from KLIA to LCCT which runs regularly and takes about 30 minutes travel time. I have made this connection several times no probs.
Secondly, transport from LCCT to KL Sentral is no probs Taxi is by far the most expensive. There are many bus services I think about 10-15 ringits. You can also for about the same cost take a coach to Salak Tinggi train station and do the rest of the trip in the train. Once at KL Sentral take a train or walk about 400 metres to the monorail station. Most hotels are pretty close too train or monorail.I didn't mean to say that it was impossible to get the KUL from LCCT, just that it's either more complicated, or much more expensive. I have been to SE Asia many times and am generally familiar with getting around. I got on the wrong bus, and went to KLIA instead of the airport express terminal. KLIA and LCCT are 2 different terminals at the same airport. The problem is there is no proper connection between them. If you arrive at KIA with Malaysia Airlines and want to transfer to an air asia flight from LCCT, you need about 4 hours for the connection.
I was in KL last week and arrived at LCCT. Taxi into town was RM 75. On the return to KIA the taxi was RM 90 (about 45 minutes each way). You can use the express train, but you have to get to the station at the airport, wait for the next train, and then arrange transport from the station in KL to your hotel. Might be cheaper, but probably a lot slower, in anything less than the KL rush hour.You're right they are different terminals of the same airport but you don't need 4 hours connection time for any other reason than you're on a long haul flight and uncertain of arrival time. There is a shuttle bus between terminals but it doesn't take more than half an hour. Incidentally there is a coach / train service from LCCT to Sentral. It reliably takes just under an hour regardless of traffic jam and costs just RM 12.50 each way. You can take an LRT train from Sentral to several areas in KL like KLCC. The monorail will be a convenient air-conditioned walk away once they finish the shopping centre near Sentral. The monorail takes you directly to Bukit Bintang without having to change train.
There is a 3rd airport to access KL. It's Subang (IATA airport code SZB) , and Firefly Airlines operates there. Subang is a mere 30 minutes from KL (exclude peak hours traffic jam). Subang (and adjacent areas like Subang Jaya and PJ) is also a "happening" place by its own right. What I was doing was making it clear. In addition, anyone who does pay attention to signs, notices, displays etc and only using English, can still navigate the ins and outs of the LCCT. But as I said, less conveniently than the main terminal. Some with less deep pockets than your own may still prefer this more difficult route (perhaps that's why the LCCT is very crowded?) so perhaps it may be an idea to provide clear information as to what to do to travel to and from the LCCT, rather than just recommend people away from it?

Been MIA for a while, mainly because I am currently busy with work. Reading through some posting about BC and from my own experience there. It really seems the price range has increased. Maybe they think they are worth that kind of range but sadly, the quality dictates much about the old price range of 200 or so for ST and perhaps 400 for LT.
