Finding your way when cell signal / Google Maps are not available
In a recent post from another thred, there was mention that they had trouble finding their way around because they could not access google maps because they had no cell reception. I have an android phone and the Google Maps application allows me to "cache" maps for offline use. You can pre-download maps for the area you are traveling to and access them offline. I usually turn my cellphone to Airplane Mode, and leave the GPS on.

Android users: If you need "other" maps, like topographical or aerials, consider purchasing BackCountry Navigator. You can download free offline maps, as well. There are maps for almost every place on this planet!
If you are familiar with the Google Maps I created, you can download all the locations in a single KML file, then import them into BackCountry Navigator.

Pretty cool and a fine value for only $10. I use this a lot for hiking. 4-wheeling, and street navigation, when no cell signal is available.
Good luck and happy mongering!
El Gato Negro, El Establo or BSD?
I haven't been in Mexicali for about 6 months but have to be in El Centro in a couple of weeks. I have has so-so experiences at BSD and good experiences at El Establo in the past. Never tried El Gato Negro. Which has the best action and girls currently? Anyone have any recent experiences?
Thanks!
I Am Planning A Trip To Mexicali Soon, Please Let Me Know If You Want To Tag Along
I am not sure when yet but I am planning a trip to Mexicali fairly soon. It will be on a weekend before the end of the month, possibly even this weekend. I plan on spending a night at the La Chinesca hotel leaving the morning of the next day. I live in Tempe, Arizona (suburban Phoenix) as you can probably tell by my handle. If you live in the Phoenix area or somewhere in between like Yuma or something and are interested please let me know. The only thing I would expect from you is maybe a little money to help pay for gasoline. I drive a very fuel efficient vehicle that gets about 30 miles to the gallon so it should not be very much. I usually do not drive into Mexicali, I park at the AA parking lot and walk in going to places within walking distance of the border (The zona, Miau Miau, Chaoz etc). I am thinking about though taking a taxi this time to either El Establo or Bar San Diego so if you are interested in that maybe we can split the cost of taxi cab fare. I do not like dealing with Mexican Auto Insurance (added expense and I have read reports that it is worthless) and I do not speak Spanish so I would not be able to read the traffic signs. I drive a fairly new vehicle that is sort of flashy and sporty looking so it would stick out like a sore thumb there and is almost an invitation for police to bother me. I also can not risk driving without insurance down there because the car is financed and still has decent value so if it was stolen I would be in deep shit. Please let me know if you are interested.
