Boxes are in the lobby and it has been robbed before.

Robbed by whom? Staff? Thugs? Has this happened alot?
I'm bringing a good amount of cash with me so I'm a little concerned about safety.
Maybe another hotel is better?

The armed robbery was an isolated incident.
There was a murder suicide a few years back and some people claim they have seen ghosts.
Yes the hotel is tired.
If you want to stay in that area, the Clarkton is a better choice.
Evening,
Myself and another member, Blacklisted, are heading to Angeles in mid December to bite our AC cherry. Both know the Phils pretty well (lets not count the number of 2009 trips!) but have never strayed further north than Manila.
I am happy to splash out. A bit.
On accomdation: A big bed and decent shower and/or bath are required and some peace and quite. Only one type of banging will be tolerated and the sound of doors is not it. Blacklisted is more budget orientated.
Shortlist is looking like this:
- Amsterdam. But no mentions on this site. Trip advisers reviews suggested like minded people stay there but not ISGers?
Pacific Breeze. Pool sounds good and seems to be a firm favourite of some
ABC. But seems damn expensive. As BL pointed out. You are hardly there and when you are you are shagging or sleeping. Is it worth it?
Valentino's. Seems cheaper and more mentioned here
Savanna. Looks good. Just trying to figure how far from th action it really is.
Top budget is supposed to be USD$50 per night but I am happy at 80USD or so and BL is stretchable.
Thoughts from others? If I did not know ISG I would head to the Amsterdam. But silence on that one suggest something is amiss.
Also, I normally book Manila hotels via Agoda and the like. Better to go direct to the hotels in Angeles?
If anyone is around, we would be keen to meet up for beers and women.
Thanks in advance
WGS
I have never traveled to PI or Thailand, I dated some cute PI girls in US. I have both places on to visit list. I would like an experienced Mongers opionion on which place and girls are best. I already know the PI girls are cheaper. Most gfe? Most beauty?
If your in it just for girls. Go to AC. Can't be beat, the girls are cheaper, more real, better looking, and if you have never traveled to SEA you don't really have to worry about Ladyboys in AC! In Thailand they are everywhere, some them are model gorgeous, so you really have to be careful or you might accidently end up with one.
Overall I prefer, Thailand, because there is much more to do, AC can be boring as hell, during the day, unless your want to start drinking at 10:00am (Which I don't). I LOVE both places, but prefer Thailand to everywhere else. However, I speant a considerable amount of time and energy into learning how to survive in Thailand, as I plan to live there one day. But for purely mongering, AC is much better. Plus the girls in AC, all speak great English, whereas a lot of Thai's do not. AC is more user friendly for first timers, the prices are more set, and don't require negotiations. When the girl leaves in the morning you can give her nothing, or as much as you want, as you have already paid the bar for her services.
Bangkok is my favorite city on Earth, and I've been to a lot of them, but IMHO for mongering it is really crappy. The prices are over inflated, defiantly need to stay away from Patpong, it is full of scammers and cheats, nothing good will come out of there. You can still find good looking girls in Bangkok, but they are harder to find, and will cost more Pattaya is much better, girls are cheaper. Keep in mind that anytime anyone tells you a price for anything, that is merely a starting point for negotiations. I will rarely ever except a first price given to me Thailand.
AC is a little bit more dangerous than the rest, and you wil certainly notice the presence of guns with the security guards everywhere, as opposed to Thailand, but if you stay at Hotels like ABC or Lewis Grand you will be fine as long as you don't act like a F***ing moron.
This was kinda all over the place, back and forth, but I hope it helps you!

I am staying there right now.
It is clean, modern, well run. Staff are friendly and efficient. Guard with gun outside the front. In the middle of Fields action. Room safe. Booked most nights, so don't assume you will get in unless you book ahead. (I booked two months ahead and had to change rooms once because of prior bookings). Site photos are typical.
Against. No pool. Restaurant temporarily closed for renovations.
I have been staying here a couple of times a year for the past three years.

With this little notice at this time of year, the bigger consideration will be where you can get a room. Many of those hotels are going to be booked. I wouldn't be surprised if they all are.
Amsterdam is fine. In fact it might be my new favorite.
Pacific Breeze will fail on your noise consideration; the doors will let in the noise of every drunk guest returning loudly with his drunk barfine.
Valentino's is another nice but cheap place I love.
Savannah is too far out for me, but many folks love it. I think it depends on how much of a hassle you find trikes and jeepneys to be. I hate and avoid both, so I won't stay anywhere other than Fields.
You're right, ABC is not worth what they charge. Someone once described the decor as "vampire bordello" and that sounded accurate to me. Not attractive. Even ABC is further from the action than I like to be.
Just had a brief stay in AC (will FR later when I have the time). Stayed at Affinty Condo Hotel (googele for the web site).
New, clean, nice rooms, internet in rooms etc. Pool on top flor. No elevator though so if a lazy bugger stay on the ground floor!
Small coffee shop, nice food, nice staff.
Located on Sophie Street.
Check prices on the web but my room (studio) was 1950 pesos . The hotel has 1 & 2 bedrooms and a penthouse)
Would recommend and will stay there again

Will hold those rooms and perhaps see if I can get something closer in. We only have a couple of days at the end of the trip so don't want to spend forever going back and forth (I assume it is 10-15 mins from Savannah to Fields by trike?)
Good advice and much appreciated. Will post all final details when we are done and dusted.

How is The Swagman?
I was thinking of staying there.
How is The Swagman?
I was thinking of staying there.
Ended up at the Orchid Inn (see post below). The Jasmin Wing (Superior Delux Rooms) is just fine. Clean, quiet, large rooms if somewhat worn. The bed was comfortable and staff very accomodating. Lots of hot water although only a shower. I did have to 'plunge' the shower plug but that was a minor inconnvenince.
It is right in the centre of the action. If and when I return to AC I would not worry about going anywhere else.

WGS
I stayed at savannah twice. It's about 15 mins walking distance to Fields. Less than 5 mins by trike. The hotel has a car that will drop off and pick you up at Clarks airport, Fields and SM for free. The only down side is if the driver is out on a run you may have to wait for while. This has happen to me and I just took a track to fields. I hope this help.
How is The Swagman?
I was thinking of staying there.
Too far from the action. There is/was a Filipino's strip joint close by and few Filipino's bars but you are far from fields avenue. Restaurant fine, Ozi sport on tv, pool nothing special, rooms average.
Yet to do a proper FR of my time in AC but when I was there stayed at Affinity Condos (google and you will find). Nice place, clean, new and hopefully by now has credit card facilities (as it was new it was waiting for the connection). Reasonably priced and not too far from anywhere (Sophia Street). Food in the restuarant not bad either so next time will stay there again
How is The Swagman?
The property is located in the very quiet Diamond Subdivision about a 15 minute walk from Fields. But they offer complementary trike service to and fro. The rooms are a bit tired but worth the price. The main attraction is their open air bar and resto accross the street serving great food. If you are an Aussie, you will get along famously with the other mostly Australian clientele.
That being said, you might want to check out the hotel first because they lost four units a few months ago after they were swept away by a typhoon!
