Definitely short sleeve shirts (because of the weather), casual shoes, jeans, NO t-shirts, and bring a cap-hat to guard against the suns rays.
Hey all,
In all the pictures I've seen so far everyone is wearing jeans or pants. I'm from the northern half of the states and with the temperatures they have in MDE I would prefer to wear shorts.
Will I stick out like a sore thumb if I'm in shorts?
Button up collared shirts only and dark dress shoes when going out at night?
So what I guess I'm trying to ask is what is the proper dress code for Medellin?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,

Jeans, Tennis shoes.
Maybe a little better clothes for some local night club.
Thanks WT69.
Anyone have advise for duck butter? I know that may be an issue for me down there if I'm wearing jeans in 80 degree weather.
Cheers,
LR

LR
It usually is only hot for an hour or two in the mid afternoon. Mornings and evenings are pleasant and you will be comfortable in long pants. Yes, it would be nice to wear shorts during the day but you will stick out.

LR
I spent Jan & Feb in Medellin. Like you I didn't know what to wear so I brought both. Turned out I only wore shorts every day because that's how I was most comfortable. And I spent much time in El Centro wearing shorts as well. I'm clearly a gringo and wearing long pants was not going to fool anyone so I figured what the hell. I sometimes hung out with a couple USA Expats and they wore shorts too. So, in my opinion, I'd say it's not a big deal to wear shorts in Medellin unless you are hoping to appear as a local. If you are hoping to blend in then do not wear shorts. After dark I would wear long pants.

In January he was showing me around and for the couple of days we were there he was wearing shorts and a tshirt as well; with flip-flops. I questioned him on it and he was like fuck that I want to be comfortable. He wasn't treated any differently. No matter what you wear, and as much as you want to fool yourself, from a kilometer away they know you are not from there.

No flip flops.
In the daytime I wear shorts, a good tee shirt and a good pair of sandals, and at night I wear jeans, and a dress shirt.
The only place I draw the line is no flip flops. It seems in the US many woman wear them, and I hate to see it on them so I don't wear them for myself. I like to walk, and good footwear is important to me.
Maybe the local men don't wear shorts as they think it is not macho. I don't need to be macho. I just need to have a smile on my face, and money in my pocket.

Another plug for Jake
Let me repeat what I wrote two months ago. I think Jake provides an unusual service, one that I really like and wish I could find in more cities. He doesn't just hook you up with someone to bang for an hour (though that's an option). You get to go out on a date -- eat, drink, dance, walk around -- with girls that know how to make you feel like The Man. For me, it was the feeling of being with someone who recently became your girlfriend, that early stage when it's hot and fun. It also feels really good being out in public with a hot-looking woman holding your hand.
A few of them speak English, so ask for that if you know little Spanish. Also let Jake know what you like in a girl in terms of looks and personality. For me, he scored three out of four. (The fourth was gorgeous, but not at all the personality I hit it off with.).
Any nightclubs / discos / bars in Medellin where there is a high chance of hooking up with prepagos or where most prepagos hang out.
Someone told me about Charlee hotel but I am not sure.
This is common in many other countries including Panama.
Farenheight late night you can pull a stripper who gets off early and parties there. If you really want to try and pull a Prepago in a casual setting then I suggest day time trolling at the mall in porta del northe. Also I have picked up crazy hot chicks on the metro. If you ride that at the right time you can get. A number almost any day you do it. Also of you want to find a real real girlfriend who isn't a prepago. Go hang at Efat university. I hung out in the food courts and the grounds. Picked up Soo many girls. They see an American there in a natural setting and the gyard is down and they are super curious. Good luck!

Shorts and flip flops!
Sorry fellas. I am one of those guys you hate seeing probably. I wear shorts cargo usually Nike flip flops and a nice t shirt in MDE. Although. I usually don't leave the mansion much since what I came for is pretty readily available there. LOL. But day time when I do leave I usually go shopping to Santa Fe and Oviedo. Hit up the supermarket for booze to stock my fridge with. The pharmacy for all my goodies. If I go on a daytime date with a chica to a nearby pueblo or other attractions. I will wear nice jeans nice t shirt and a nice pair of Nike cross training shoes. Usually about $100 usd shoes. Night time same thing. If I go to steak house on a date then I will bust out nice shoes I bought the day I get there. Usually from Bossi or Valeaz. Those are 2 high end stores in MDE for those who don't know. I usually do clothes and shoes shopping as part of my trip. I like doing stuff like that. I live in CA so nothing is really out of my budget. LOL. I used to think to dress business casual and never wear shorts. But all sorts of girls always told me it was no big deal. They were always surprised why guys even thought that. They would tell menits not like you're going to work or something. You're here bc you work hard and save money to come and enjoy yourself. They said I should feel and dress comfortable. So I do.

If I recall, the Puerta del Norte mall is in Bello. After the last metro stop. Yes? Never been to Bello. I assume the mall is safe. But what about getting from the Niquia metro station to the mall? And around the mall itself? Just curious. I'm all for hunting at the source.

LR
5-6 years ago, I would have said don't wear shorts, period. But in recent years, I have seen more and more Paisa men wearing shorts (at least during the daytime). Nighttime definitely jeans / slacks.
It rarely gets real hot in MDE so you won't be uncomfortable wearing jeans. Highs don't vary much from about 80 degrees F.
