If you are buying a ticket outside of Philippines for a trip to Manila to cebu you will pay much more. Buying ticket on Aussie or USA ground will cost more. Any others want to share in why other than the obvious of fleecing the foriegn guy.
I'm headed to the Phils for the first time. I have a round trip ticket purchased from SFO to Manila from Oct. 23-Nov. 10. I'm thinking of spending maybe the first two nights in Manila, then maybe three days in Puerto Galera, back to Manila for the night and then connect with a flight the next day for maybe a week in Cebu (with perhaps an excursion to Bohol, Siquijor and/ or somewhere else in that area). Then I'll probably spend the last two nights in Manila.
If anyone will be around during the time I"m in the Phils, let me know and maybe we can hang out some.
My question is: Is it advisable to buy the Manila to Cebu round trip ticket before I go to the Phils as I've heard it can be busy around Halloween. Or, in case I want to change some of my plans after I arrive, is it ok to wait until a day or two before I fly inter-island so as to maximize my flexibility? I want flexibility, but don't want to get stuck with having difficulty booking a flight from Manila to Cebu, for example. Can anyone shed some light?
Thanks guys!
It is really up to you, if you have a bit of flexibility there are lots of flights from Manila to Cebu, even boats. Check out the Cebu Pacific web site (http://www.cebupacificair.com/). Flights can't easily or cheaply be changed but they are cheap and pleantiful.
You can book you flights now on line. There are sales now, so it will cost you only about $60 round trip. Book each leg seperatly so if you decide to abandon one they won't cancel both (thought I am not sure they do this anyway).
You could

I just took a few island flights a few months ago. I really liked the flexibility of being able to buy my tickets a day or 2 before my flight. Just compare the PAL and Cebu Pacific websites for a flight that is good for you, so many flights between Cebu and Manila you should have no problem getting one that fits your schedule.
I am not sure about Halloween.
Yes, well, that's what I'm wondering about. As I'm planning on flying to Cebu from Manila around Oct. 31st. Give or take. I don't want to get stuck in Manila. I'm guessing that I'd be able to hop on a flight with a day or two advance booking there, but not sure. Otherwise, I can just book it here I guess and hope those are the days I end up flying.

Hmm. Since Oct. 31 is All Soul's day, maybe if I changed my Manila to Cebu flight (tentatiave from Oct. 31 to Nov 8) to a departure time of Nov. 1? Would that help?
Suggestions here are welcome as this is my first time to the Phils.
Thanks, guys.
I spent 9 nights in Angeles last month, stayed at the Tiger Hotel (ok but small for me, service good but location not so good). I met up with a couple of friends, experienced mongers, a brit and a chinese from malaysia. They got here a few days later, but luck was with me.
First day I ended up meeting a real cool guy at Margaritaville, playing pool with him. I know I know, we all gotta be careful of strangers, however, turns out he worked for CDC and was just the acquaintance I needed. All I did was just buy him a few beers, met his wife and kids.
Best of all he introduced me to two guys who i now consider friends, an american who has been living there 6 years and a greek cypriot aussie citizen.
You know they say birds of a feather flock together, well we sure hit it off. All these guys do is just hang out, party, enjoy the clubs and the pinays. They were kind enough to take me around all the nice clubs from Dollhouse, to Insomnia to Camelot to you name it, I went there. 7 ladies in 9 days, and one two nights, a bit much for an old fart like me. It was really paradise.
They even took me in their car to Subic for a day trip, had lunch by the beach. I am experienced in Thailand, been there, done that, seen that, and I now have the Philippines bug.
Just came back 25th of Aug, and already have a booking leaving again on the l3th thru the 31st of October. Again angeles this time, but in december new years at Cebu with an american friend. Have to decide where I am gonna hang my hat for a while.
A quick question: I know a foreigner cannot own land in Ph, but what if a filipino buys the property, and I am holding the paper on it, (the trust deed or mortgage), then I lease it back from him for something like 25 plus 25 years or in some cases it can be 50 plus 25 years, at 1 peso a year or something.
I am looking a lot of developments and will check with the developers also if I can buy the house outright from them but lease the land for 50 years at a nominal rate.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Hoohah, counting the days.
By the way, any of you check out the Bangladesh site, I used to be an authority there for a while but it got boring, as no interesting action from other mongers, just requests for numbers.
Cheers

On THE ROAD
Left home Tuesday night for Manila and onward. The Philippine Airlines flight out of LA has replaced its usual plane with a 747 that can make the trans-Pacific flight without a refueling stop at Guam, cutting the flight time several hours from the usual butt-numbing 16 hours. Unfortunately, PAL hasn’t changed their departure time, so the flight arrives before 4 a. M.
Not much to do at NAIA at 4 a. M. My connecting flight leaves at 10: 20. Too little time for recreation, too much time for sitting around. I considered Air Force One, but that didn’t seem the right way to start my adventure.
I’m heading for Davao. As I suspected, my flaky Internet café girl flaked out. She was always a maybe – torn between a desire for a wild afternoon and a reluctance to bend her rules. The rules won.
I’m not too concerned. I collected info from various boards on where to meet temporary company. I’ve probably got more opportunities than time. I’m staying at Casa Leticia, and word is that ladies are available just outside the door and down the street. For a start.
I like Davao. It’s not a wide open town, but that’s part of it’s charm. Last time I was here alone, I was only partly successful. I hope to do better this time.
I tried to pack lighter this trip but I still wound up with a small suitcase and a heavy backpack. My worst indulgence is five paperback novels. I’ve also brought a bunch of small chocolates and some small stuffed animals as gifts for the girls. Although my friend travels with only a backpack, I just can’t get that small. The backpack has my laptop, which I want on the plane, and clothes for a three-week trip go in the suitcase. I also brought a full-size vibrator in addition to the pocket rocket I usually carry.
I’m expecting them to announce my Davao flight any minute. Onward.
ON THE GROUND
Got to Casa Leticia in Davao yesterday mid-afternoon. A nice hotel and closer to the Apo View than I had thought. It’s just down the street. But the first priority was sleep, in a bed. I woke up around 6 pm and started out for dinner and company.
But no ladies on the street. It had started raining and kept raining until nearly 10 pm. About 8, I set out with my umbrella and made a big rectangular loop down Legaspi/Palayo to San Pedro, south to Recto, back to Palma Gil and up to the hotel. There were a few girls at Recto and Palma Gil but nothing I wanted.
A bit frustrated after so much planning and anticipation, I was ready to call it a night but the rain stopped. The front security guard suggested a massage but I wasn’t in the mood. Instead, I took a walk north and, turning down Quirino, noticed a bar on the other side of the street. I walked on but headed back on the other side. It was a KTV. Bah!
But, to my own surprise and after some conversation outside with a couple of the girls, I went in. To my greater surprise, I wound up in a VIP room with one of the girls. She was not especially pretty and she was plumper than I like, but she was nice and willing and we did the deed. Twice. She gave me her phone number but I’m not going to call. I have no excuse except that I’d never been to a KTV. Well, now I have. I doubt I’ll do it again. Bonking on a sofa is for teenagers. I paid 1500 pesos, which was too much, and there were too many beers that I didn’t drink. And several that I did.
Went to sleep about 3 am, woke at 7 hungry enough to eat a shark. I had an excellent breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The cook actually managed to make eggs over easy that were neither under- nor overcooked. Will wonders never cease? Good toast, too, and excellent juice. The coffee was so-so, but not bad. Satisfied, I went back to bed and slept until time for lunch. I had planned on visiting the Japanese restaurant on the top floor but the housekeeper said it was closed. It is, but reopened next door, which I didn’t discover until after a modest lunch.
I spent most of the afternoon reading. Tonight, I’m supposed to connect with a board member. After that, I don’t know. But so far it isn’t raining, and it’s Friday night. Have to be better hunting. (Said with fingers crossed.)

My advise is to play around the sandbox for a year of two to get acclimated before you invest, and find a good lawyer. I've met too many mongers who jumped the gun and now regret moving too fast. Just my two cents.
As I suspected, my flaky Internet café girl flaked out. She was always a maybe
Thanks for the report Titmouse.
You know, it has always amazed me how many guys will spend so much time finding chicks on the internet in preparation for their trip. There is no need! Don't bother. If you read the reports, the internet girls usually don't pan out. Many are flakes just looking for a guy with $$.
The whole beauty of the scene in the Phil is the ability to troll around the bars and retail spots. There is a huge abundance of bar girls, freelancers and freebies (and everything in between), and lots of chances to check out the girl face to face before taking her back to your hotel.
I am a big believer in chemistry. You will never know if you will click with a girl and feel that mutual attraction until you meet her. There are so many girls looking for a western boyfriend, IMHO there is no need to bother with all those interent girls. Just a waste of time and energy in my view.
Well, Igofor, you may be right. To each his own. You may enjoy trolling the bars, and sometimes I do, too. The truth is, I'm basically a shy guy who compensates as best he can but is not a social lion. I'm better in the long run than the short. I also like to have extended chats with girls on line. So far, I'm pretty accurate in assessing them. But it's really just a form of play. And what else can I do from Los Angeles except anticipate and salivate?
last night ended at 5 am this morning, so please excuse a report much shorter than it deserves. it began with dinner at de bonte koe on rizal street with michael from the isg board and his lady, mary. they were both charming, especially mary. he also invited two others who were in town – orlando and mike. our long. leisurely dinner began about 8:30 and ended close to midnight, with henny, the owner, joining us for the last hour or so.
michael and mary went home, and orlando, mike and i went to club 183, which is less than two blocks north on rizal. it’s actually a series of bars in and around a passageway. we had dirnks outside but the action was was thin. it was probably better inside the club bars, but we were not in the mood for drinking and dancing. we headed down the street and turned the corner where orlando – recovering from a hip injury and making his first excursion without a cane in several weeks – caught a cab back to his hotel.
moments later, we bumped into marlyn, a thin, cute and somewhat older girl than the younger ones we had been ogling. we were headed for the auto shop but marlyn said the venue was better so we invited her to come with us. as it turned out, the venue wasn’t very lively at 1 a.m. the band quit playing shortly after we arrived, which allowed us to chat without shouting.
at first, mike – who is younger and a better talker than i – seemed to have the inside track. but when marlyn went to the cr, he took himself out of the running, saying he had several girls from previous visits and at least one would be willing to come over to his condo despite the late hour. his condo is near bangayan (sp?) beach and he invited us to go down there. when we grabbed a cab, he took the front seat and marlyn and i sat together in back. she cuddled up and took my hand without being asked, not minding at all.
we didn’t get to bangayan, which i would have liked to see, but instead walked down an alleyway with karaoke booths on both sides. i could have skipped the karaoke but marlyn was as eager as a filipina, so we shared a large outdoor booth and listened to bad singing from both inside and outside the booth. fortunately, it was 2 a.m., and the singing soon had to shut down. before long, we said goodbye to mike and grabbed a cab back to casa leticia. i was glad the desk clerk was male, as most of the daytime desk staff is female. the clerk smiled and handed me my room key.
marlyn had already made it clear she was ready. she stripped to bra and panties while i was taking a [CodeWord134]. we kissed standing for a bit and then we took turns in the shower.before launching a marathon bonk that only ended in exhaustion around 5 a.m. i expected marlyn to stay and catch some sleep, but she asked nicely if she could go home as her sister was expecting her. i didn’t really mind. i slipped 1000 pesos in her hip pocket, which she had surely earned, and handed her 100 pesos for cab fare. and said goodnight.
the sun is up and people are drifting into people’s park for exercise. i’m going to sleep.

Titmouse's latest post apparently belongs in the Davao thread. Thanks for the DV field report.
And IgoforAsia, have you really tried Net gals? Looking forward to your post in the chat/pen pals thread detailing your lack of success with web ladies.
I've had 40% success rate in the first 24 hours. Maybe I'm just better looking than you.
And why would Net gals looking for money be all that different from bar girls looking for money.
Some people can't see the forest for the trees.
X
I agree X, I live and work in the Philippines and I still use the net to find diamonds. I like the chase and adventure of meeting a lady online, especially one who has never dated a foreigner, and after meeting her in person taking her to my room. I try to make all new dates:D for lunch, so I can I leave fast if it isn't right, but if it is right, I always have time:D I am also about at 40% success rate. I also like to go bar hoping, but something about fucking a stunner, who has been BF'ed every night for a year vs. a lady who hasn't had sex in five years...hmmmmmmmmm. Try it, you might like it. Most girls online tell me that their biggest problem is that guys chat with them and never come and visit. So, thanks for not showing up, because when you do show up, they know that if they do not sleep with you that you can go to the bar, so they want to make you happy.
Picture is of a 31 year old accountant. I met her on line one year before meeting in person. She is the most vocal that I have very had. Over time she web cammed (nude) and told me what she would do, and she lived up to the expectations.

X
There was no intention on my part to disparage those who choose to go after the internet girls! If you have the time and inclination, go for it!
I think if you read my post closely, I am just giving my humble opinion (maybe I should have spelled out IMHO). I was trying to share some advice for those who are perhaps planning a trip to the Phil that it is not necessary to set up a bunch of contacts before hand. Again, if you do have the time an inclination, go for it. But some of us have full time jobs and don't have much free time when preparing for a trip.
As for you X, I have long tired of the way you attack members here who make valuable contributions. Now that you have made an unprovoked attack on me, you will now have the honour of being the only member on my "ignore" list. You can therefore expect no further comment from me.
Cheers and happy pooning!

EzFeelin
Seems the land issue still stays alive and well here, should I buy or rent. Please dont think that you can get a clear deed to the land even if you go through a lawyer.I have a friend who thought he was OK with his purchase and last I knew he was in the shits with a title problem.
Be careful and why buy a place when you can rent and never part with your hard earned peso.
