Maybe one more time in Lima
how many years has it been ? i forget but i can assure you not much has changed only prices and how things operate. it is unfortunate because i would expect alot more from a city like lima.
iīve been here for another month. there is really not much to say but as usual i have some observations and comments.
weather :
i loved it. the daytime was like a nice fall spring day in nyc minus a few chilly days. most nights i was fine with a little heater and thermals.
flight :
going through mexico city fucked me up...19 hour ordeal door to door. it would be much wiser to go through a us destination. the only reason i tried to avoid the usa is due to summer rainfall. there is always a storm when i travel!
conclusion - donīt go through mexico city if you can help it.
chongos:
unfortunately its the same ol same ol. the big four cucardas la nene trocadero and el botecito. the only new place i went to was 1733 petit thours yellow house on cuadra 17. 1 sol entrance fee 30 soles entrance.
lima really needs some new blood in the budget scene. there definately is a demand for them but nothing new seems to arise. the low end barrios might have a spot but it would take a local to find them. no local forum that i had been on had info regarding any.
* las rocas/conejas these are two budget chongos side by side to each other in huachipa (outskirts of lima). lr is a mini trocadero with two hallways while conejas es like a las cucardas. i was hoping to alternate between the troc one day and lr the other day but traffic was just too brutal coming back. it is worth a trip at least once though. both 3 soles entrance lr 30 soles sessions c 40 soles sessions. *less of a chance at getting bbbj at lr due to less girls. it was somewhat annoying. conejas is like a las cucardas...latex bubble sex....no bbbjs were offered to me.
food:
miraflores has gotten way more expensive. bkfst and lunch are still a good deal like anywhere in lima but dinner is a load. i used to take non pros out to dinner and around miraflores but i just wasnīt into it this trip. prices kept me away from trial and error non pro action.
a typical dinner entree and a bottle of water was around $15. i dont mind paying $25 for a meal but it has to come correct. i felt like i was back in nyc here. even ready made food at the supermarket (vivanda) came out to $12 complete meal...but sometimes way better food!
adios chow- next door to cafe z. they have the best flame burger ive had in lima. thanks to lima busy for the recommendation
la mayma (for lunch)- imho the best lunch menu in miraflores for 15 soles...high for lima but well worth it. located on larcomar a few doors up from the store la quinta upstairs...great food and great deal.
latin flavor- another dinner option located catty corner to cafe cafe upstairs. located on the same block as haiti and the macdonalds...no atmosphere hardly any people. they will even offer you a magazine while you wait to keep yourself occupied. good home cooked food good deal.
miraflores chifa (parque kennedy) fuck em! they serve overpriced rep001 meals on par with trendy miraflores restaurants but chifa isnīt trendy. $6 meals in the past now cost at least $15.
hotels:
i have years at the maria luisa but the love affair is over. i dont like the new staff and i need to get out of miraflores. can you believe i did the walk of shame at the luisa ? i dont have the patience to train the new staff. one night i felt like my privacy was infringed upon. at 10:30 pm someone made a little tapping noise on my door. one of the male teenage cleaning boys invited himself in and was wandering around my room pretending to look for a sheet....bs i had a hunch he was just snooping on me. after all the window wouldnt be a good place to look for a sheet now would it ?
one day a cleaning guy cleaned my draw out...no thanks getting rid of the bags i was guarding. at the same time he thought my un opened snacks were garbage too. i called him on it and made a stink. he had them saved down in the maids quarters. considering i bring everybody presents i was pissed off.
santa maria hotel ( la marina) sometimes people ask about staying in san miguel la marina area. i went into this place and looked at a small and large room. they looked great and for a great price. large around $30 small $20. they do allow one visitor at a time..only female.

non pros:
i didnīt do too much of it. i had a list of emails i gathered in march when i was supposed to come but i never kept in contact afterwards. i did manage to go on 3 new dates. i was into 2 of them but only 1 worked out sexually for me. i also saw an old fling from last time as well. i had the balls to stop a girl on the street and ask her for coffee...we went but then i decided i wasnt into her...kept on seeing her over and over on the street...very embarassing for me.
prices/change :
if there was a theme for this trip it would be exactly that prices and change. a day at the trocadero used to cost me around $17 with rt transport entrance and a bbbj session. these days it runs me around $27. then you have to deal with rush hour traffic back to miraflores. i dont know if its worth it. for an extra few dollars you can do a sw from miraflores in the comfort of your hotel room. i have mixed feelings about budget mongering in lima at the moment. $30 seems to be the norm in many latin budget locations...why deal with traffic and an expensive airfare to get there ?
service was decent in all situations but nothing too off the wall with the pfp action. the off the wall shit happens at sly oneīs parties and with independent chicas. if you get locked into a good network you can have a really good time. connections are manadatory though.
* thank you sly one for all your help. your help was priceless to me.
nice meeting munich boy...a new friend. see you in march hopefully.
forgot to mention they have completed a new bus route along the via expresa that will go from chorillos to coma...a great addition to lima. also a new above ground train that will go a similar route through la molina which desperately needs it. tickets for jay walking coming soon...change.
thatīs it. i will help anyone that needs it.
i'm pretty sure i will return to peru one day before i hang it up, but now you see why i prefer mayorista. lima was my first great mongering trip and between the tr of old and david's girls and my one time with sly, and r+ v ( many times till they rasied the price to 90 soles ) i must say lima was great. 3.15 soles per dollar also helped.
my last trip was in late oct 2009 and as you say the ml is not the same and the dollar is weak and it seemed the pollution was much worse this time. still beats most latin america countrys but imho not worth the extra miles and expense to get there.
Another use for the heater
This will be less applicable as the weather warms up, and actually by the end of last week cold wasn't much of a problem. But if your room is not heated you can get a very compact space heater for 90 soles at Saga Falabella at Ovallo Miraflores, go to the third floor and the appliances area. I went to Ripley first but they only had large units. This heater is not too powerful but works well enough to take some of the chill out, perhaps upping the temp from 64 to 67 degrees after running it for a few hours in a small to medium size bedroom. I got temps as high as 70 but the weather was warming up a bit anyway and my bedroom was fairly small.
The guys at apartmentclubperu are holding the one I bought, so if you rent from them and the apartment has no heat or supplied heater my heater may be available to you, just ask!
I did the exact same thing. One interesting discovery for me was that if I put the heater in the bathroom with my clothes that were hanging up to dry after they were washed, the clothes would actually dry in a few hours. On the other hand, when the clothes were just hanging out in the open in front of an open window, they would not dry after a day and a half.
A small heater, for about s/ 100, absolutely did the trick for me. Just ride the escalators up to the third floor of Saga Falabala and you'll find what you need. They had a pretty good selection while I was in there.
