Stay at Rromanov or Europe[/QUOTE]Going to have to disagree with you there Taur55. Just came back from spending two weeks in one of Rocky's rooms. No. 3 to be exact. Granted the rooms are very basic, but what do you want for $20 a day. The rooms are cleaned everyday. The place is super central, and you can bring back chicas anytime. Mosquito's and noisey motoconchos, you'll be hardpressed to find a place in Sosua that you will be free from those pesky things. Food is always good at Rocky's also.
I usually stay at the Tradewinds condos when I'm there, but the last time I tried Rocky's bar itself, and I found the place OK.
Taur55,
Plus I forgot, you get free wireless internet in these basic rooms at Rockys.

I like the food at Rockys, and the owner is a cool guy but, there is no way in hell I would ever stay in one of those rooms ! We all have our standards and those rooms are well below mine. I rent villas and I never had any mosquito problem, EVER !
I do some property management in Sosua and have private apartments and villas available. The flying pests always come and go and especially when you leave the window or door open. I always recommend to bring a can of OFF.
You'll even get bit by the little bitty ones at the beach or while sitting at a bar. It's the tropics!
Rocky's is nice too for the budget minded traveler, but you always have trade offs when you decide to rent on the lower end of the scale. The location is great, the food is pretty good too, but the rooms are small, etc, etc. etc. Trade offs do exist. Expect them in life.
If anyone is interested in a different place to stay, you can check out the link I added in the Sosua classifieds section - it is post #3 in that thread.
And to our veterans, you will never be forgotten!
Best Wishes,

Hey Mr NYC...
When are you heading back to DR?
Peace:

Damn.... I don't know. I was hoping by mid-late June for a few weeks. I'll know more the end of this week.
How about you?
MISTER NYC :D
I'm a middle-aged, relatively experienced monger in the world (Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Thailand) and have been to the DR 2X. I'll be in Sosua in July. Point is that I like the darker girls who come from Haiti.
Question: Has anyone here ever rented a car and driven toward Haiti in search of sweet chocolate in the smaller, less traveled border towns of the DR and Haiti? Are the border towns OFF LIMITS? Or are there some that can accomodate a single white traveler?
Love to know if there's any experience with that here.
Thanks for your help!

Haiti can be a little hairy.... there are plety of dark skinned chicas in Sousa/Puerto Plata .... know a few guys who have done the small towns - seems like too much work for me....
Can any of you point me to a site that gives the best rates for DR? I'm trying to go in June. Any info will be appreciated. Also is it possible to get a rate below $500, I don't want to spend all the dough on just getting there.

What area would you be flying from?
For example, those who live in NYC, like to choose JetBlue because the flights are sometimes like around $300 round trip with all taxes and fees included. However, the downside, if you can call it that, is that you must fly a red eye in/out.
MISTER NYC :D
P.s. I hope to fly out again sometime in June as well.
Hey, thanks for your response.
To clairify---I wasn't thinking of actually going into Haiti, but just driving by car more toward the border, but DEFINITELY staying inside the DR. I thought there may be some of you with experience in some of the barrios along the way.
I've enjoyed the dark women of Sosua in the past, but it's the spirit of adventure that moves me for my next trip in July. And to get away from the cold-eyed, totally mercenary and mechanical encounter that feels like such a waste of money when it's over. I'm strictly P4P, but think I would enjoy those semi-pro mamis who might be less into the Sosua grind and norteamericano con-game. I was thinking that it might be available somewhere in the barrios out in the campo, nearer to Haiti, where they see less touristas and have less opportunity to make the big easy money.
Just a pipe-dream? ;-=)
If anyone has actually tried this, I'd love to hear about it. BTW, I do speak a minimal, but effective high school Spanish.
Thanks, #2128
The farther you get from places that have a lot of tourists the less likely you wil find any P4P. With the malaria risk and the general shittyness around the Haiti border this sounds like a bad idea for a few reasons.
Minimal high school Spanish won't allow you much opportunity to hit on real girls either. Although the time and effort required is probably not worth it.
If you want to see beautiful girls and wow them with your words of amor try Moca and the Cibao valley.
See! I can speak Spanish!
Just busting your chops Gran Pollo! I do appreciate the "head's up" about the malaria infested Haitian border.
I guess I'll take my sense of adventure elsewhere. I saw some intell on DR1 in the other direction, toward Terrenas, a smaller Dominican tourist town of NAGUA. It said there was a healthy P4P scene and beachfront hotels. However, the information was real old (2002). Anyone been there, done that?
Ever heard of the town? I don't think it's been discussed here before.
Like I said, I've been to Sosua and had my fun there---enough so that I'm heading back in July, but I'd really like to expand my horizons this time around. I've been overnight to PP---the Long Beach area, the 3000 peso rip-off places like Crystals and the little bars along and around the Malecon. I also went into downtown with a driver who showed me around to a bunch of the outdoor Domincan dancing bars where the typical available girls looked thick, raw and rough. The gems were few and far between, mostly just walking around on the streets and hard to pursue.
So, we have NAGUA? Any other spots within striking distance of Sosua where a monger might score? There is also the "town" right past the town beach in Sosua where the Dominicans live, right? The name escapes me right now, but is that a reasonable hunting ground?
BTW, I'll do my best to report on all this when I return at the end of July...

If you could speak Spanish you'd remember grande or gran BEFORE a noun means great. Grande after is big.
Near Sosua with your great Spanish, Moca, Santiago. There should be posts here about both if you search. Moca or other Cibao locations you won't find P4P but you will find some of the best looking women in this hemisphere.
