Not that much to say about Santa Marta
There are at least 8 P4P spots there, I went to that many and figure there may have been some I missed. Some are decent, all are a bit overpriced, around 150K pesos for not even an hour generally. Renobar is less expensive, I think that is your best bet but be prepared for a scene. Blaring music, all local clientele really, lots of very drunk patrons, no language other than Spanish and kind of a buck and grab atmosphere. Spot a girl yyou like, pay your 70K pesos (or whatever they charge now) , try her on for size and if you like her, invite her to hang out during the day. The girls I took out of there didn't even ask for money, I paid their cab and for their lunch, about half the time I tipped them if I had a great time. YMMV but I bet anyone can get a good bargain that way.
Bananas and Flamingos were both decent for the pricier ones, forgettable experiences though.
Overall there are only two reasons to go to Santa Marta: Tayrona and the backpacker scene. If you're into the latter, there are a lot of ex pats and people, um, skiing on the local "slopes," if you go to the former, you will not be disappointed. Many people think the beaches are a bust, that is because they were lazy, if you explore you will find some stunning ones, they are not located in el centro or el rodadero though.
I have had a great time there but I have generally taken girlfriends after spending a week there scoping out the mongering scene. It's not so bad though and there is street action if you like that. Some OK girls near the beaches, overall I thought the ones on the actual calles were repulsive though. Freebie scene is OK, university there with some gorgeous girls but they like a tall, young, blond gringo they can show off to their friends. I made some good friends there but generally brought up a Paisa lady friend for the actual bonin and groanin.
GF Hotels in santa marta?
Hi Guys,
Can anyone suggest a girl friendly hotel in Santa Marta that isn't going to break the bank! Prefer downtown rather than out in the resort area. Only a couple of nights on the way to and from Tayrona.
Appreciate the info on the board about Santa Marta options.
Cheers,
B
