Leonel will be good for the country but the place is such a mess things will need to get worse before better.
I see the exchange rate hitting 60 soon.
The past few months the exchange rate has been artificially low because of the govt trying to keep it low for the elections and also for the IMF. Posted rates of 42-1 mean very little. If you walked into a bank and said you would like to buy 10k in dollars they would not sell.
People holding dollars usually means the rate is actually higher.
At champions in the Juragua prices are now all in dollars. Same with the all night cafe in the Juragua.
I went to Outback the other day. My GF and her son. Bill was 3,700 pesos which is not bad.. . . . .. but in december we went with 10 people, 7 adults and 3 kids, had appetizers, lots of beer and the girls had frozen margaritas etc and the entire bill was like 6200 pesos.

Prtyr2,
Doing the math your Outback bill was around 70US with the dollar around 46-1. Are food prices now that high, or is that just reflecting the cost of beef in RD? Or you guys can really pound down the drinks, junior included...:)
I hope pricing in dollars is infrequent, I don't want to carry both currencies around not knowing who accepts what.

We probably had about 6 beers, 2 froxen lemonades, for the kid, their rib apetizer, 2 prime ribs and a burger. The 12 ounce prime rib is now 750 pesos. I remember when the 16 ounce was 400. Oh well. OTOH, I ate pasta with garlic and olive oil for dinnner the other night. Got it from Pasta Y Basta on Independencia. Cost 100 pesos. Just a bit over 2 bucks, can't beat that.
A dozen wings at Champions was $4.25 last night so it is still more than reasonable, but not as good as before. . . . .

Looking for: caramel complexion chicas with big tits and beautiful, round asses that are into giving bbbj. Where is the best place in the DR to find them?
Questions: a. Have any of the mongers out there ever brought a chica to the States with them? I've heard it is not a good idea. Not that I would ever consider doing this, but just curious as to the reasons why you should never bring one home with you.
b. I read that there are downsides to living in the DR as an ex-pat. I have considered buying a condo there to become a part-time resident. I know all the pros (pussy, low cost-of-living, pussy, warm weather, and pussy) but what are the cons?
-
Gee D Bridge. I've done both. . . . .he he he he. Married a Dominicana brought her to the states, seperated and now finally getting divorced. I also now live in Santo Domingo.
No major pitfalls to report in either case. The marriage didn't work but I can't say anything bad about her. No scamming etc involved, we just couldn't live with eachother, despite being in love.
The ex pat thang is similar. I would suggest spending a TON of time down here before moving here. I had been here over 30 times before hand. Still one gets confronted with 3rd world issues constantly.
Heck I had one apartment above a colmado, so peace and quiet were not something I got a ton of.
As far as caramel complexion with big tits and round asses? Where to find that? The answer is easy. . . .EVERYWHERE!

D Bridge:
The only major con I know of in the DR is obvious: compared to the U.S. due to economic conditions, there's less opportunity to make good money.

Don't Speak Spanish?
How sensible would it be for me to come here for a vacation not speaking Spanish? Would I have a good time? Would I have any luck with non-pros?
For p4p, would I find any English speaking ladies to spend the whole day and night with me?
Which city or town would be best? The capital?
If need Spanish, suggest some other countries in Western Hemisphere where English would be sufficient.
Thanks

Prayers to the families of those who perished in western DR and Haiti this week. We should never forget what we have and where we go to relieve the daily stresses of our lonely lives. Help others who have difficulty helping themselves.
Peace.

Boy in Bubble,
I have been to the DR four times since Sept. 03, with only one solo travel. I speak little to no spanish and manage to communicate and have fun. I wouldn't suggest doing this if you have a big heart and can't stand up for yourself. I rented a car from national rental and grabbed me a presidente beer and was off. Make sure you exchange your money at the airport and separate the dough to several different pockets. I would go as far as suggesting a wasteside money bag or a money belt. Have loose dominican coins due to the possibilty of the toll collector ripping you off. Carry a small calculator to stay on top of how much money you spend and receive. Stay away from multiple groups and the occassional amigo who is willing to look out for you. You are better off dealing with employees, but I recommend someone who doesn't leach onto you too close. If you decide to rent a car keep in mind that most dominican drivers, drive as if they're trying out for nascar. there are numerous pedestrians out all times of day and nights and dashing across the major highways like deer during hunting season. If you do decide to go solo, consider paying one of the hotel staff who speaks both languages to chaffuer you around on their off time so you can enjoy the sites and drink till your heart desires. Keep the passport and valuables in your room or hotel safe. My only problem when I travel to the DR is that I don't budget myself smartly. I find myself making frequent trips to the ATM, exposing myself to many hungry eyes.
Be safe and enjoy.

hey I have been to several countries and your spanish does not matter. grab a book from the writers of lonely planet the book is caled something like latin america phrase book it has a few pages on getting freaky. If they are pros they know the basic anyway .I have been with a few domicanas in panama they were kind of aggressive. if not some one in the pick up spot knows english tell them what you want . or most of us at first go around with a taxi driver that can bargin for you good luck

Kuranyi,
You get about 48 pesos to the US dollar. I guess you can do the euro calculations. It's VERY cheap!

At *******,
It depends what you mean with "cheap". The dollar has been pretty strong in the last 4 years, now it is the euro. For me a hooker in a 3rd world destination who wants 50$ for ST is not cheap. It looks like in DR the price is about 800-1500 peso which is about 14-25 Euro. That is o.k. I am monger on budget, but i always had a good time when I traveled.
