Here is an eyewitness report from Bhagdad, excerpted from today's Washington Post:
Indeed, I watched one day from Yaser's car as three attractive young women, dressed in traditional gowns, walked slowly through an upscale residential neighborhood. They had long, silky black hair and modest makeup. Two looked like they were in their twenties, the third probably a teenager.
"Check out the prostitutes," my cousin said.
Prostitutes? I had thought nothing of three young women making their way down the street. We had just passed the homes of some ambassadors and the headquarters of opposition leaders. Surely prostitutes would not walk these streets.
In the past, prostitutes were most often found at bus stops. They used to dress like everybody else, in knee-length skirts or dresses. They hung out at bus stops so as to have a reason to be standing in the street. Long before the Baathists came to power, there was a whole neighborhood of brothels near the ministry of defense. And there were the foreign women who hung out at nightclubs and commanded a higher rate than the local girls.
I rolled down the window and looked back. I actually thought they looked lovely. The only hint of their work was in their walk: You could see their hips swaying as they went down the street.
"Look at how they're dressed!" I said, looking at my own jeans and white cotton shirt.
"Many prostitutes cover up like conservative girls," said Rana. The subtle communication is necessary, of course, in a conservative culture. Their walk, their glances at the men in passing cars, their shy smiles may all have been signs to those in the know, but I had my doubts.
Yaser laughed. "You are ridiculously naive," he said. "Just watch them." Soon, a car slowed at the curb, and the men inside stopped at the top of the street. The young women continued to saunter along. I began to wonder if Yaser wasn't fooling with me after all. When the women reached the car, however, one of them leaned into the passenger side window to talk, and soon after, all three of the women hopped in.

Was reading in the recent Newsweek Magazine that prostitution is becoming VERY widespread in Irag now. They state a case where a man pays $1.50 for 15 minutes with a woman. Also, they reported that the police rounded up a bunch of pimps and prostitutes, however the american soldiers ordered them released, so who knows what's going on there now!!

Heard that some Iraqi babes are making their trip over to Dubai as well!
-
There are definately prostitutes and a few brothels in Baghdad but I have not had any luck finding them yet but I have heard from many reliable sources that they are here.
The latest word is that the hotel Babylon is one of the larger meeting places in town but I have to confirm this myself.
I'll let everyone know as soon as I find out.

Can anyone provide more information on where to go to find girls in Baghdad? How dangerous is it with the whole Muslim thing, cutting off heads and hands, stoning adulturers? What do girls cost and where to find them? Are they cute under all those robes? Can you bring them back to your hotel?

monaghan as someone who is currently based in baghdad i would say it would be very difficult in this present situation to obtain accurate information about mongering.
let’s be clear here, if you are currently working in baghdad and want to break up the monotony with some women, then all well and fine – but there are a couple of points i would like to add first.
“how dangerous is it with the whole muslim thing?”
iraq is currently considered one of the most dangerous places in the world; it is not just to do with religion but general terrorism and criminality thrown in.
foreigners are targeted for attacks by various organisations, too numerous to mention, on top of the general opportunist criminals, many of whom who were released from prison before the out break of the war, and ak47s are sold for around $20 in the street bazaars. a pimp is unlikely to attract attention to himself by providing girls to any foreigners and likely to keep a low profile. last week there was an article about prostitution in the iraq today newspaper: 26 january 2004, "in seedy underworld, slave trade is booming" – www.iraq-today.com/pi2.php?pi=2004-01-26
are they cute under all those robes?
the few women i have seen in baghdad do not wear robes about 30% do and the other 70% wear western style dress, abet that its somewhat conservative and not very fashionable – so no mini skirts or cleaverage showing outfits. this in not a fundamentalist country (yet)– so we do not have cutting off heads or hands nor stoning adulterers, give it six months. but on the positive side, the majority of iraqi women i have seen have j lo sized booties and i am sure a few of them want it as must as i want to give it to them because you can see it in their eyes when you talk to them.
can you bring them back to your hotel?
which hotels are you talking about bring girls back to? the majority of hotels are filled with journalists, security companies & businessmen seeking out opportunities, there are restrictions on entering the majority of hotels in baghdad considering that three of them have been attacked in the last three months alone. women don’t go out at night unless with their men folk, there have been many [CodeWord124] and kidnappings in many parts of the city power cuts are frequent,
now with all this in mind why would you really want to come here just for sex?
generally, you will find iraqi people are very hospitable and many will invite you to their homes for meals, but these girls are looking for one things and one thing only –a way out if the country, marriage or green card. i and i imagine several hundred troops, contact workers and security personel based here have been trying to get these girls to give up the panties but to no avail. i guess based on the law of averages that some guys have been lucky but none that i know and believe me we have been trying - its extremely difficult to move about this city especially after dark and even worse if you are a foreigner.
so please take my advice – don’t come to baghdad just for sex, just come to iraq to make the big money available here and for mongering activities i suggest you go for r&r to dubai (3 hours away) or bangkok (7 hours), manila (9 hours) rio (18 hours)
i don’t think any poon is worth risking your life for even for an adventurous monger.

Hey guys,
I'll be going over to Bahgdad in a week and a half. I'm going over to be in charge of my companies network, so I will post if anything happens. But from my understanding, most guys are getting it from women soldiers trying to get knocked up so they can get a direct flight home. Basically they are whoring themselves out to anyone who will take it. But on the other hand I dated a Persian/Armenian girl from Iran for two and a half years, and they are the freakiest in bed. Oh yeah. I do know there are quite a bit of Armenians in Iraq, so I'll see whats up with that and Ill try to put my armenian skills to use, though not very good I must add.

I came over into this one to look, expecting it to be empty. Someone actually asked about mongering here? Hell, this is definately not the place right now for that.

Hi. Forget about Iraq now. Iraq now is living in hell. In the old days, especialy in the eighties and seventies, Iraq was one of the best places you could go to have sex. Brothels were everywhere. Cabarets to. It was a street that called abou Nawas where there a lot of action to do. Now iraq its dead zone because of the wars. Of course there is prostitution but its now very hidden because of the circumstances of the country. But anyway who thinks of visiting Iraq these days? It isn't worth. I heard that there is Iraquis girls in Jordan and Bahrain and Dubai. But never experienced for sure. But because of the present circumstances forget about Iraq.
Thanx

Can't help but see the funny side to the "I am going to Iraq..any action there"...stuff..hohohohohoho. An old picture but ok for you guys using up your right hand...
-
Guys,
I have been here for over four months and believe me, there is NO action here. I am in the Green Zone which because of the shear number of westerners should be the most liberal place in Iraq. Yet, the only thing you can buy here is booze. There have been rumors of "houses" and SW's in the Green Zone but that's all that they have turned out be...rumors. No wonder some guys around here are so eager to get to heaven and meet those 72 virgins. That's the only way to get sex in these parts. In order to get any action, we military types have to do our R&R in Kuwait.
-
Tripod, I am in Kuwait frequently for the past ten years or so. I have never found any organized or consistent P4P. You can see a couple of posts by me on the Kuwait board.
May I ask where you are now finding action on R&R in Kuwait?
-
nice guy 99,
there is a lot of action in the deployment/redeployment camps set up in kuwait. on my last visit, i connected with a nice us air force nco who was trying to make a little bit of extra money on the side. through the military grape vine you can always find some women who are willing to make a few extra dollars. of course, it helps if you are in the military as well. in meantime, i have not given up on baghdad. one of our interpreters here told me about a neighborhood near the green zone called al-batween and a certain area call bad al-sharki. i will check it out once i do a recon on the place for security purposes (it would be extremely embarrassing to killed over here trying to get a piece of ass).

National Public Radio has a show called "This American Life" which did a one-hour report this past weekend on private contractors in Iraq by an indy journalist woman, from recordings she made some months ago. Among many other things, they spent a few minutes discussing rumors of a brothel in or near to the green zone. Having heard this, it sure was interesting to come here and read tripod's reports.
If you want to hear it: visit www.thislife.org, choose "All Episodes/RealAudio in order of broadcast", choose the episode from June 4, 2004 titled "I'm From the Private Sector and I'm Here to Help".
To those of you who are private contractors: while the report was not blatantly critical, and maybe tries to sound objective, you may not find that it casts you in a favorable light.

Gentlemen,
There are a lot of rumours and hearsay with regards to what is happening in Iraq, as someone that has been in the green zone since last year and also looking for “action” so to speak, but its dead, you have to get outside and into the red zone of the Babylon Hotel, where several girls do hang out, easy to spot touting for business. I have asked many of the KBR contractors here but nothing most of them, do as I do and go to Thailand for their breaks.
On the subject of journalists I have been approached by several, (maybe I look dodgy) and spoken to respected journalist Peter Arnet all looking for a different angle and one of the questions they ask is if know of or aware that there is a vice ring operating within the green zone. So I would suggest you take many of these rumours with a pinch of salt – such issues are very sensitive.
As for action within Camp Wolverine in Kuwait- if you have actually been there and seen the place you will realise it’s a non-starter in my books, so unless someone can pm with some hard evidence to check out and verify, because I will be down there later this month I would disregard this information.
If I was to find any action within the green zone I would be very reluctant to post it anyway because the CPA has to be seen as being whiter than white not only do you have to worry about the terrorist but if the journalists gets hold of this information – you know what would happen it would be closed down. So guys I suggest you stick to the Rashid disco on Thursday night for the closes action you will find within the green zone.
