I give a ton of detail on nonpro spots, in my trip report (july?) in this cali thread. Malls, bars, clubs, other places - times, concerns, plans, etc.
Post any specific questions so I can help further.

Pro,
When you going? I'll (we'll) be very interested to see how your trip went... hear your stories!
Leo, i'll arrive in Sao Paulo on 26 December, for New year's Eve in one of the good clubs there, then a little side trip to Goiania, back to Sampa and leaving to Cali around 12 January (flight Varig SP/Bogota) : i can't wait to meet some Calenas !!
Cheers
Does anybody have any info on how cel phone works in Cali. I havea cingular GSM phone. Can I buy any sim card in Cali to work with my tri band celluar phone?
I'm a regular on the Cuban forum, but have decided to take the plunge and try out Cali. Based on the posts I've read here, it sounds perfect.
Shaft57 - You endorsed Andreas as a guide. What did you pay him per day? Did it include gas?
Some posters say I should bring US currency and exchange it at black marker rates. I saw the exchange rate in a currency converter as 2.9 CP to the US dollar. Can I expect that rate down there?
I'm looking for a place to stay. It sounds like the north end of Cali is the safest. I want some creature comforts and room, but don't want to pay the Intercontinental rates. An apart hotel or apartment would be great. I want to have access to a pool and either a balcony or courtyard so that I can hang out outside. Any advice would be appreciated.
I'm looking for a place where to spend new year's eve and talking with a girl from Cali she told me that every year there's a big convenction of salsa bands (feria) and the whole town is quite a nice place to be during that period. Anyone that has been there can confirm ? What would be instead a nice location to relax by the beach ? I like kind of untouched places and don't mind having to travel a little before getting to the city for action.
I was in Cali last XMAS season ... it was a blast! Lots of chicas from all over Colombia. Every night was like a Friday night.
If I remember correctly though ... the first week of the year (after New Years eve party) ... it is absolutely dead ... the casas with chicas ... the streets ... everything.
Right before XMAS and up to Dec 31 is really fun ... people are ready for a party!
El Colorado, see my post of Jun-2003 for some info.
It is nearly always best to use an ATM in foreign countries (economically speaking) vs. exchanging US/Euro currency, using a CC, or using travelers checks.
Regarding a black market rate of 2.9 (if I read you correctly) - the FX is currently 2,860 more or less - about the same as the 2.9 so why bother with any extra risk?

Leo - Thanks for your response. I checked out your summer 2003 posts and picked up some good tips. A few questions if you don't mind.
Did you use a guide like Ramon, Carlos or Andreas? If so, what did you pay them per day? Can you make a recommendation?
Is the pool at Hostel San Fernando or at the club. How far is the club from the Hostel? Was the hostel chica friendly for girls other than agency girls? What were you charged per day for viewing and setting up dates from the hostel's listing of women?
Are there outdoor places to hang out during the day at the hostel?
Is the south end of Cali as safe as the north end?
Did you stay anywhere else in Cali?
Thanks in advance.

i'll answer the questions in a post, vs. private email, in case other wish to follow along... sorry if that's the wrong approach.
Did you use a guide like Ramon, Carlos or Andreas?
my friends had a guy named raul - but i'm more of an anti-guide type. i love having to speak spanish, and shy away from english speaking girls... true the guides can take you places you might not know about, but wsg has so much detail on 80-90% of all the places you'll need to hit (unless you're there for months).
If so, what did you pay them per day?
it was more of an hourly thing i believe... or arranged for a day... maybe one of them can follow up, i think they read here.
Can you make a recommendation?
sorry, i'm not the right guy to recommend in this area.
Is the pool at Hostel San Fernando or at the club. How far is the club from the Hostel?
the pool is at the club. it is 5-6 blks, so walking distance if you want a little walk, taxi (like us$1) if you just showered and it's sweltering out. there is a nice drug store, juice/smoothy place, supermarket, and 3-4 atms between the places, so i walked often.
Was the hostel chica friendly for girls other than agency girls? What were you charged per day for viewing and setting up dates from the hostel's listing of women?
it's more like an apartment in that regard, so you can do what you like - have 3 girls over at once i guess - they don't care (unless you create a disturbance). i don't know if they have any listing, or can help you by providing a meeting... i never asked for that (given it's so easy to meet girls in casas, malls, street, bars, discos).
Are there outdoor places to hang out during the day at the hostel?
not really... only a very small couryard suitable for a coffee/bfst... waiting for a taxi... just talking...
Is the south end of Cali as safe as the north end?
both have equally safe and dangerous areas - you really can't categorize it like that. the areas like santa monica, av sexta, chipechape are safe, in the south, and probably better than staying south. but hostal s.f. is not in the south - more of the central. unicentro mall is in the south, and it's a distance (maybe 6000 pesos taxi) away.
Did you stay anywhere else in Cali?
i didn't... i've only visited once. i have friends who have stayed at rayda apts, intercontinental, a friend has a place in santa monica (it's kind of remote though).

Colombia rocks!
Yesterday before leaving Medellin for Cali (due to the total lack of decent hotel rooms due to a horse show) again I met a couple of the sweetest young cuties in the food court at Oviedo.
I am in Cali now. Posts to follow.
Private message me if you are in town.
Someone mentioned a swing club a while back in Cali. Does anyone remember what its name is and where it is? I have searched and cannot find it. Is it Club Ecstacy?

Yesterday went to a casa on Avenida 9B. 4 women, none better than a 5 (scale of 10 not 100 you perverts), but all sympatica, so I passed. This place is not recommended.
Last night hit Avenida Sexta. Went for an early nut with a 19 year old streetwalker - and for a streetwalker, what a beauty. As soon as we hit the room, my hotel room, she was naked in bed masturbating herself until she came. What a horny little girl she was. Total price 40,000 pesos or about US$15. Now tell me, all you sorry fucks stuck in the Police States of America, would you have gone for it even if streetwalkers arenīt your thing? Duh.
The scene around Mysti-K and the Forum Club is hopping. They are both located near Avenida Sexta and Calle 25. I am not into dark nightclubs so the numerous outdoor cafes on Avenida Sexta were just perfect for me. Great scene if you like friendly pretty young non-professional women. If you donīt, then you should stay away. In fact, considering how effin dangerous it is here, it is probably better that you stay away even if you like friendly pretty young women.
Things you can do in Cali safely:
1) Bone as many beautiful young women as is manly possible.
2) Dine in as many gourmet restaurants as is manly possible.
3) Hail a taxi on the street.
4) Bone as many beautiful young women as is manly possible.
Things you can't do in Cali safely:
1) Get shit-faced drunk and fall asleep on the street.
Today's plan is Avenida 2N this morning and then a mall scene around 5 or 6 this evening. Reports tomorrow.
Hey Stud.
I know a good place to stay in Cali rund by a cool American if you need it. About $25.00 a day.
