Hey guys,
I'll be spending a month in Cali around March and was wondering what would be my best options in finding cheap accommodations? Is there a website to check for people looking for a roommate or anyone know of some pensions?
Cheers

March is a little to far out for me to know for sure but I might be up to sharing an apartment for a couple weeks in March.

Art has many more rentals that aren't on his website.
There's a Cali monger who goes by the handle of Parcero. He's got apartments for rent. I don't know where they are or how much he charges but you can call him.

The website doesn't list prices, but I'd imagine its in the 700-1500 USD a month range at least.
I'll most likely be using local classified etc to find a place.
My budget is around 350 USD a month (what I am aiming / planning for anyway)
The bulk of my money I like to spend on partying.

Told me it was a great place right at Chipichapi- the pictures he sent me looked great. When I arrive, he said that place is rented. Instead, he had an alternative. Unfortunately, this place was pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I would have told him to fuck off, but I had already given him a decent deposit and I was tired from from flight and wanted to get settled. The apartment sucked. It was way north of town, near basically nothing, no places to eat, drink, cafes, chicas. In retrospect, I should have just eaten my deposit and stayed elsewhere.
Lo and behold, during my stay in Cali, I run into another tourist who had the exact same thing happen to him with Art.
I would say only rent from this guy w / no deposit. And even then, have a backup plan.

There already enough shit you have to deal with in Cali (keeping from getting robbed, stabbed, shot, etc). No need to unnecessarily add a scumbag apartment renter into the mix.
Is there ANYTHING worth siteseeing in Buenaventura, most of the reports have pretty negative about the city. That it was dangerous and an ugly port town. Any beaches there?
I do not think that there is anything special apart from what you already mentioned. Half of the center is the industrial port. And all over the city there is port related industry. Beaches are far and can be reached either by car (or better by motorbike) or by boat. The City is neverless poor and in bad shape. I know only one mall (Brisa Plaza) which cannot be compared to any mall you have in Cali. Close to Buenaventura there is the " bajo calima" region hardly controlled by public forces, a center of cocaine procesing. As far as the population is concerned there is probably a majority of colored people. If you do not speak decent Spanish I consider the place as dangerous: You really need to communicate with reliable locals where to go and where to stay away. No idea about P2P in this city but of course there is. It is a port after all. But I believe that the high standard ladies migrated to Cali anyway. Will post some photos seperatly. First need to downsize.
Attached some Buenaventura impressions.

Here are the classified ads from Cali's newspaper El Pais for studio apartments.

Keep in mind that most require a lease and do not include utilities or furniture. You have a lot of time so you might want to post an add on craigslist to see if some gringo will rent you a nice room for that price.
Here is a studio furnished with utilities within your budget.

LOL, he pulled the same stunt on me a couple of years ago when I was new to Cali. Upon arriving at the residential unit "right next to Chipichape", as in a good 15 minutes walk, Los Patios De La Flora, he told me that the unit I was supposed to live in was rented out, but that he just happened to have another unit available same place but in a different building (torre) , only it cost 400. 000 more than the other one. So there I am, 20 hours and 2 connecting flights later, first time in Colombia at 10 pm. It's pitch dark, no back-up plan and I already sent a deposit. So I decided to take it simply because I just wanted to get settled and in all fairness the apartment was actually quite nice. I did, however, vow never to rent from him again and later found a Colombian owned company from which I have since rented. Slightly lower prices and super efficient service, always polite and friendly. My impression of Arthur, well let's just say he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. Nuff said.
The apartments he supposedly have, that are not on his web site and that I am aware of, are apartments he rents from other rental companies, and guess who pays that premium for the extra middleman.
Caveat Emptor.

http://clasificados.elpais.com.co/detallev3.php?src=FR&ida=9-862461
Yea, I need to find some pensions or something. If anything I can have my Colombian friends find me a good room to rent for the month from a local.
I could pay up to 500 USD but I'm trying to keep my lodging costs down as much as possible. Simply need a room, bed, ac, and shower to use. Nothing fancy.
Hi friends,
I went to Medellin some times and I can tell it was very good. I'd like to try with another town, I'm thinking about Cali. Are girls in Cali all black or are there also many white girls? Is Cali town more dispersive in the concentration of interesting places? Is easier to fuck regular girls than Medellin?
