True are doing 3G trials in Bangkok.
Its their way of "getting around the system".
So their "trial" is in fact them launching their 3G in Bangkok.
Normal Thai nonsense. Not allowed to do 3G yet, but as True has powerful supporters in the government they are allowed to "trial" 3G forever.
Meaning that everyone signs up for 3G from True and gets them established and a massive headstart over the others. When the tender comes out and the others start, all the lead customers are already on 3G from True.
Corruption. Thailand. No. Pull the other one.
As far as I know there is nothing like 3G in Thailand. The tender for the 3G network has been postponed by the Government.
Cheers
Gents; My generally impression with this November, 2009 Bangkok is just great and very positive from the Majestic suites hotel to the MP. And NEP. And soi Cowboy. The political demonstrations are just having little to a Non Issue to the foreigners. I put Bangkok on top of the list destination for entertainments.
There are some in BKK that are good, the major problem is getting to them as traffic is so bad. I go to Pattaya, 140km south, on the bay of Thailand. There are about 25 championship courses within 40 km radius. Not all spectacular but many are as good as you will find anywhere. All are within 45 or so minutes of central Pattaya. Fabian at Thi ger golf is great, they go in vans form his store to about 3 different courses each day, sign up the day before.
His website is thigerlinegolf.com. He is a good operator and will not let you down. Courses I strongly suggest are St Andrews 2000, Leam Chebong, Khaokheow and almost right in town Phoenix. Feel free to ask any questions.

Great suggestions.
Can you give a general pricing on those golf courses? I'll be going soon but have not begun finding their information on websites.
Thanks
I got flagged down by the police the other day at a checkpoint on my motorbike. Two cops stood in the middle of the road to not let people drive around them. I didn't speak, I left my engine running and when they motioned I just handed them my U.S. driving license (not int'l) and they gave it back and let me go. I wasn't expecting it to be so smooth.
My strategy of having a good day at a checkpoint is.
Try to avoid them in the first place. Wear a helmet, use blinkers always even on one way streets, make sure your lights work, always carry your drivers license, limited or no talking to them when pulled over.
I also wanted to give a little more info on the 3G I'm using from this post

I bought a 3G enabled USB Dongle (Air Card) from Banana IT. If you find a cheaper one just make sure it's 3G enabled because many aren't from what I saw. The one I bought was 2900 baht, you can put a 16gb micro SD card inside if you want. When you plug it into the USB the software auto installs and will track your time online and your MB in and out.
# Model : vodafone X070M
# HSDPA USB Modem
# UMTS 850/2100 MHz HSDPA
# EDGE/GPRS/GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz

And another thing. Don't go the wrong way down a one way street. That is how they got me. I went down Soi 8 toward Beach Road and turned left. They were set up in front of the police station and he pulled me over. Although I think there was no fucking way he saw me turn left from where he was (maybe there was another cop closer who radioed) I did not have my license on me. Then he tricked me and got me to pull over in a no parking zone. They put a lock on my bike so I could not move it until I had cleared the 600 baht fine. (400 for wrong way and 200 no license...it is actually posted 400 for no license; don't know why they only made me pay 200). When I finally got everything paid, I went outside and the guy was about to put the bike on a tow truck. I got there just in time.

Why not settle it all right there? did you have to go to the police station?
Just tell the copper you want to settle it there and then! he will ask you for 100 thb more or so but it's better than having to go to the police and pay and waste 30mn.
Sometimes they even allow you to give the money and ticket to a moto-taxi, you pay the moto taxi 50 thb and he goes to the station to pay for you.

Of course I tried that brother. I even showed him the money. I think he would not do it because 1. we were directly in front of the police station, and 2. there were many other people around.

I've been stopped by the police 4 times in Pattaya, twice for no helmet, once for wrong way on a one way street, and once at a random checkpoint where I could produce no valid license. I offereed to settle the matter with money each time, but each time I ended up at the police station paying the fine, so as for bribery, it's never worked for me.
Maybe the cops are more honest in Pattaya.

send him an e-mail, his name is Callum. Tell him the dates that you will be there and he will resond with the dates he has available. He goes out to some of the best courses all the time, his rates are good and he is a top bloke, some of the best times I have had in Pattaya are with him, on and off the course.
Good shooting.

Load of #### I told him "give me the ticket and I will give it to my very high ranking police officer friend in Bangna".
Riding a bike is like being a cash machine at the end of the month. If you can it is best to pay on the spot. As for police in Pattaya being more honest than Bangkok one's. Doubt it.
Motorbikes do have their advantages though. Cheap to run. And never sit in traffic jams. I have saved myself about 2 hours a day! That is a lot of extra time for fun!
See when you get stopped! you can't just make the offer or pull out the money from your pocket and say how much? You got to be discrete! you got to have it folded small and slowly you slip it to them like in a hand shake so the world doesn't see it! Everyone in the world know why they are there stopping people but funny as it may seem they still have their pride!
My brother and I were stopped in Bangkok a few months ago while we were heading back to Pattaya and directed into a particular toll booth. On the otherside the police said we made a illegal line change? What was clear was we were flagged for being from another province our license plate clearly made that clear to them. We were told that if we had to come back to BKK, to address the citation it would cost this much.... while he turn for a moment my brother folded a 1,000 baht note and when the police return he lean into the window slightly with one hand holding his ticket book and the other slightly in the car.. like a spider crawling slowly I watch his finger slowly take the note into his palm and withdraw from the vehicle slowly like he wrote a ticket his method was proven and down right funny to us and off we went a 1,000 baht lighter.
