another new terma - Formula 99 (2pm to midnight)
New termas are hardly news. But I do like it when someone has the forethought and generosity to open one on my doorstep. Or at least just a few discrete yards away.
This one´s on NS Copa, just a few yards west of Prado Junior. During the day it´s a terma and at night it´s a boite. The O Globo ad says 70R, but it seems there´s a room charge of 60R on top of that. Ok if the girls are reasonable. Just had a look in (just past midnight) and it´s a good size, nice and new and glitzy, like many of the boites in the immediate area. I think they said they have half a dozen suites so presumably you don´t have to take the girls in a bag off the premises and hide them from your hotel reception. Not many girls about just now. Same owners as Quitanda downtown he says. But the girls ´can´t be bothered turning up when it´s sunny and it´s carnaval.´ Only a couple of so-so´s on the shelf when popped my head in.
The address is NS Copa 99A. Tel 8807-2800. The boite or ´American Bar´is open 8pm to 5am, ´striptease,´ blahblah. Whereas the terma is daytime. Nice that the girls do get a few hours nap ;)
They should learn some Portuguese
Sitting in bar Alexandra (Ave. Prado Jr.) last night, I observed the typical ugy Americano, a fat, loud, balding rube, dumbshit from Hamtramck, (Detroit) Michigan. This guy was the epitome of the type that often piques Christopherd. He was trying to impress a not-so-attractive garota and talking loud enough I could hear him across the room over the blaring music. He mentioned that he had lots of Marijuana that he brought with him in his suitcase. He noticed my disapproving stare and asked if I spoke "American." I replied I could understand the language because it is similar to English. I suggested it would be in his best interest not to openly discuss drugs lest he attract unwanted attention. He replied, "well, everyone smokes it," Then politely thanked me for my advice. The garota was not impressed and soon left the bar.
Recently I was in a bar in Leblon, half the people were on the street drinking, I asked the waiter for a drink, he said to me are you French? I said I'm American, he said bem portuguese para o americano. Could you imagine of all the nationalities an American being mistaken for a Frances?
All the girls I meet in Help during introductions they always ask, where are you from? I tell them to guess, usually first comes Italian, then French, Then sometimes Espanhol, then sometimes German but never American. When I tell them I'm American some say you're a Carioca? Because bem Portuguese.
Even the Americans don't think I'm American, in restaurants I have sat down next to tables of Americans and spoke to the waiter in Portuguese. They keep on talking away loud and free, I have heard some good stories that they probably didn't think I understood. On occasion after I was finished I stopped by and commented to them about their stories and can see their embarrassed faces.
So not every American is so obvious to be an American, some of us they would never guess.
Brazilian Economics in Practice - L'uomo
Was at L'uomo last night and the girls were complaining about the lack of customers. So in typical Brazilian fashion, fewer customers means raise the prices and that is what they have done.
Entrance is R$60 with no discount for taking a girl (was R$10)
40 minutes now is $210 - was $200
60 minutes now is $300 - was $280
30 minute massage is now R$70 - was R$50
Drinks have gone up too. R$14 drinks are now R$15 and Martinis which were R$6 are now R$10.
Luomos management is merda!

Sad, but true. I broke the ice in Luomos a few years ago when first arriving in Brazil. I had the time of my life, and it was just a blast at Luomos. Then, a couple of years ago, I had a bad experience in which a couple of my newbie friends from my hometown were getting ripped off big time......simply because they were rookies and did not know a word of portuguese. I had an argument with a bartender as well as that ***** lady they call a manager who deals with the garotas as well.
This place has been going down the tubes ever since. As far as I am concerned, they can go out buss. I have not visited that establishment in about 2 years.
Hopefully they are just raising rates for this busy tourist traffic in town for these few weeks, and then lower them. But that is just wishful thinking on my part.
I just don't get it. For example, the economy is rough in the states, so what do I see in yesterdays morning paper.....Fridays rest. chain is offering a buy one, get one free meal with a coupon you must print online. Well, thats creative, and also getting customers in. On the other hand, what do these fucks at Luomos do, they try to make up for slow business by.....oh yea, lets jack up the prices! What asswipes!
Just to be fair, by far, Luomos is not the only business in Brazil to have this mentality. Let's see what happens in May, June, and July when its low season and a rough economy is in progress as well.
