JamJam222 & Rwenotmen,
Thanks! So I can smoke in bars & restaurants with a balcony (including mongering spots). But could you please confirm that one is not allowed to smoke in the streets of Nairobi? And that the police hands out fines for this offence?
PS
Thanks for the link to the picture gallery. Some great images! This is the Casablanca Night Club & a sample of the talent.
Loso
If you smoke outdoors you are running a risk. I think that it is not allowed, and if so, the police if the spot you would certainly don't say no to an extra bonus from you ;)
So Casablanca still exists? A girl I spoke to this Christmas couldn't confirm this. She thought it was out of business.
If it is still open I would appreciate if someone could tell me a little about the place. Expensive? Better class chicks etc
I will be in Nairobi in late june/july if anyone fancies a beer

Loso
Normally its the municipal askaris, not the regular police, who arrest even if you spit or throw litter. Soon they will be arresting jaywalkers if a new by law is passed. Cross the road at the wrong place and you are in for it.
I much prefer the laid back mombasa.

Absolutely agree
Absolutely agree. It's called marriage where if you don't do or do that, pay for this or that, you don't get sex. What's the joke? Marriage is like prison although in prison you get regular sex.
Interracial, that's certainly not wrong! But even a 'wealthy Kenyan girl' is not for free! For sure somehow or other we have to pay a certain price when we f**k her! Agreed?
Cheers

Interracial:
gosh, marriage would be indeed the worst case! :) I was thinking of favors like providing them with an US visa or something like that!
Cheers!

I have to laugh, as this sounds like Columbus, Ohio. When a cop stopped me in graduate school, I thought that he was joking. Fortunately, he only gave me a warning. One of my classmates spent the night in jail for jaywalking, failure to obey a law enforcement officer, blocking a public road, and the like.

Smoking in Kenya
I just found out about the smoking ban in Kenya. You can't even smoke in the street in Nairobi? Is this ridiculous law enforced?
What's a chain smoker to do in Nairobi? Where can one still smoke?
PS
Why are smilies off in the Kenya forum? This smoking ban deserves a big, fat EEK!
Loso
Yes this law is enforced and can be very painful.
Fines are 50,000 Kes or 6 months or both ! ie $625 !
There are some smoking points in Nairobi - next to public toilets!
Hotels have small areas set aside. Some bars & restaurants too.
My suggestion - take nicotene gum !

Well guys you seem to be on the edge I happen to know of various pro brothels actually run by a mistress. You go in choose a girl and then you negotiate a price (for a single shot or a whole night). If you know Kiswahili, thy don't overcharge but if you don't, they know you're a foreigner. That's the best place and gives est service. As for no-pros, it takes time to pin one.

Thanks for the warning! But according to this article, smoking in the street is actually legal.
http://blogsofbainbridge.typepad.com/jackie/2008/11/kenyas-tobacco.html
Anyway, smoking on the street is legal in Tanzania & Uganda. I'm checking out the threads already. If Nairobi insists on pissing me off, I'll be quick to hop on a bus!

Smoking areas
Loso69,
You'll find spots where you can smoke, and you'll have to remember to stop in all other places, 'cause even if some law says you can, the average cop (or other law enforcment people) does not know about this, and you'll very quickly get extremely tired of arguing for hours with a brainless idiotic cop. So, you'll have to learn where you can enjoy yourself, and where you cannot. Even in the New Florida, for example, you'll have to go in the reserved smoking area (it can get crowded in there!)

yes, or simply talk to any policeman on the road and have a fag together with him - in public of course! :)
Two weeks ago in Nairobi I was told: "You are white, so you can do whatever you like! And I am from the police, so I can do whatever I like as well! And now give me light, please!"
Cheers!

LOL!
I've read and summarized the Uganda & Tanzania threads. I'm now back to doing research on the place I actually have plane tickets to.
Unless the smoking ban makes life unbearable, I should be in Nairobi June 25-July 6. No business, just pleasure :)

Gentlemen,
just to avoid misunderstandings: no (smoking) ban can spoil your time in Kenya! You bet your life, you will always have a lot of unforgettable moments there - with or without a cigarette! :)
Cheers!

On other boards, I'm simply Loso. But a 4 character nick won't do on ISG, so I added some digits. I was born in '66, though.
