Fon Tok's Photos & Camera
Nice photos Fon Tok! Would you mind telling me (us) what kind of camera you use? Is it a P&S or a pro-model of some kind? What brand? Sorry, I am very interested in cameras and photography.
Thanks.

What kind of camera is an insult

LexLuther
It's like asking Shakespeare what kind of pen he used, or asking Picasso what kind of brush he used, or asking Frank Lloyd Wright what kind of pencil he used. It's not about the camera. It's about the genius behind it.
Superman shoots with a Leica M9 Digital Rangefinder Camera.
hey lex, what does superman shoot with?
me? i use a canon dslr & different lenses. while a zoom lens (e. g. 70-200mm. 24-105mm) is nice for flexibly, a fixed lens (e. g. 85mm) works very well, too. i shoot in raw mode, edit in lightroom, and reduce the file size for isg using miha's image resizer.
point & shoot cameras are not great for street shots as there usually is no viewfinder for accuracy, and the speed / aperture settings are normally not as adjustable. moving subjects are hard to capture with this type of camera.
here's a couple of "away" shots from yesterday in pattaya.
don't get me wrong fon tok. i really like your photos a lot. they have a certain je ne se quas (not sure how you actually spell that). however, since you asked, superman shoots with a leica m9 digital rangefinder camera.
there are actually reasons for that.
1.) camera and lenses are much smaller and easier to pack and carry.
2.) camera shutter is very, very quiet. borders on being silent. when you are taking street shots or shots in a mall or market of some kind, or anywhere there are close quarters, this type of camera allows you to get in closer and take photos without your subject being aware of it.
3.) photographer has full control of the entire photo making process. he controls focusing, shutter and aperture separately, etc. there is no (or actually very little) automatic anything.
4.) this system has the absolute best glass. you can really tell by the fact that the detail in the shadows is incredibly rich.
thanks for asking.
getting back to your photos, i really like the color (skin tone, shadows, foreground, all of it). i like the way the girls are shown walking. since they are not aware that they are being photographed, they don't pose but move very naturally.
keep up the good work. and thanks again for answering my questions.
and to those who resent my questions, fuck you very much. if you don't like the questions or the answers, don't read it. just continue pounding your puds as per normal.

I actually shoot with a pretty specialized kit when I'm on holidays: While most of my gear is Nikon D90-based, my travel kit is actually an Olympus E-520, which I have replaced the viewfinder screen with a split-image ground glass screen that I use primarily with old, manual focus lenses. Because just about any brand of old glass can be adapted to it with cheap lens-mount adapters, and in so doing, My Olympus E-520 body retains aperture priority auto-exposure, as well as in-body image stabilization with an infinite number of old lenses which, given the replacement viewfinder screen, I can easily focus manually on this camera. My particular favorite lens for people shots cost me around $15 on ebay, and it's a 40-something year old 55mm f1. 8 SMC Takumar Pentax screw mount lens, which, when mounted on the Olympus, becomes a razor sharp and extremely fast effective 110mm portrait lens.
Some of the other lenses that I use on this rig in addition to Olympus' very fine 11-22mm wide angle autofocus lens, are a 28mm f2. 8 Elmarit-R (Leica R-mount) , Tamron 90mm f2. 5 Macro (Nikon-mount, but interchangeable) , And while I only use these for sports and wildlife shooting, a Nikon 180mm f2. 8 and 300mm f2. 8 manual lenses which are optically the equal of the current professional lenses that sell for 10-20X what the old manual lenses can be bought for on the used market. But for people shooting, that Olympus E-520 with the 55mm f1. 8 manual lens is an extremely compact, light weight rig with exceptional image quality, and exceptional available light capability (it's razor sharp wide open). And nowadays, body, lens, and the replacement view screen all together could be bought for $300 or so. Basically, I consider that Olympus body as a digital back, including image stabilization, for use with all the myriad of wonderful old glass that's out there for pennies since the camera world went to autofocus.
Oh, and to answer Mr. Enternational's other question, I tend to use either LifeStyle Skyns or LifeStyle X2 as my condoms of choice. When I use a condom.

Out of my league plus I have never used a rangefinder camera. I carry a Nikon D300, F100, F and Canon G11 in my bag. I'd like to see some of your most recent work if it is not too much trouble. I know the pictures have to be reduced in size for this gallery, but I would be interested in what you have done. Thank you.

Is Bangkok a good place to buy second-hand lenses and bodies? Quality and price-wise? If so, where would one go? I need to buy a full-frame and was thinking to get a second-hand Mark II.
