Done!
Thanks but I prefer using BZR, it is the correct manner to spell Brazilian Reais in the stock exchange and financial market.
Isn't that BRL?
Isn't that BRL?
You are right A. P. It's BRL.
Ok, so all you Sao Paulo brothers with boots on the ground there, how does it look for the World Cup?
When I was there a couple of months ago, there was a severe water shortage, and the main stadium wasn't even close to ready.
I have this morbid fascination with how the World Cup is going to flop in Rio. Yet another way that American Football blows away soccer. The Super Bowl runs like well oiled machine.

With a week to go before the start of the WC, SP's metro operators are on strike.

Don't understand a fascination with a bad World Cup.
These Brazillians are mostly pretty good, happy people.
I wish them all the best, and hope for a great Copa do Mundo!
The Super Bowl is a whole different, one game, every year bananza.
I dig it too.
But I dig the both of 'them!
Good luck.

There are 10 new, hundred million dollar soccer stadiums that will have no function in 8 weeks. They can either let them fall apart, OR they can spend even MORE money trying to maintain them to rent them for events that won't bring in nearly as much as it costs to maintain them.
Can you imagine what they could have done for their society with the BILLIONS of dollars they spent?
The same thing happens in America, though on a smaller scale. The NFL has tried for decades to get a team in Los Angeles, but they want the taxpayers to pay for the stadium while they take in the profits. It is criminal. I love football and other sports, but PROFESSIONAL sports is all about corruption.

With the Olympics coming after the World Cup, there will be even more spending and over-spending, I'm sure.
I was originally, however, only commenting about a fascination with a flop, as you put it.
Most Brazillians I know, and I'm in Sao Paulo quite often, are still proud of the World Cup in Brazil, even though they of course read and hear of the problems.
The vast majority of the people are not protesting nor on strike, the majority just want their team, Brasil, to win!
I understand the problems and all, but I hope for a great World Cup, and that team Brazil does well!
That's it.

The money Brazil paid to build those stadiums were a waste. They evicted people out of thier homes. I did hear anything about moving the evicted to a new house.
We will see what happens.

They have the Olympics coming up. And even when both events are over, they have to spend more forever just to maintain all these facilities. The brazilian goverment is borrowing to do all this. In a year or two, the bill is going to coming in. The govt is then going to have to raise taxes and eliminate civil services. The olympics contributed to taking down Greece, and the money involved here is many times larger.
I guess in a twisted kind of way, it will be good for tourists and punters. Prices at places like 4 x4 would probably come down. But it doesn't make me feel good to be benefiting off of someone elses poverty.

It does boost the egos and pockets of a few well-connected people.
