I am no expert. I think each person has there own experience or perhaps none at all. So best to not drink much and moderate physical activity and that could solve any problems.
Oh shit. I had forgotten that altitude can be a problem for some visitors to Bogota. I doubt I would be in Bogota for five days before moving on, so a period of adjustment is not in the cards. Is adjusting to altitude more of an individual problem or a typical problem for most visitors? I've heard that Mate de Coca was a traditional remedy, and was curious if that actually helped.
Mind you, I visit Taos, NM on an annual basis to visit family. Taos is right at 7000 feet and I never noticed any problems there except a little shortness of breath walking upstairs to the guest bedroom. There is an oxygen lounge near where I stay and apparently some visitors need it there. But, I've never noticed any sickness at 7000 feet so I wonder if Bogota at 8600 is going to be a problem.
Any insights would be welcome. Also curious if a few days in Medellin at nearly 5000 feet would be a helpful before moving on to Bogota.
I spent 5 nights there and came from Florida which is basically like living in water. Ha! I had a terrible headache and no appetite which are normal symptoms of moderate / mild altitude sickness my entire stay. I totally forgot when I arrived about the altitude but then grabbed some ibuprofen which definitely helped. I was never right the entire time and think I was just starting to adjust the day I left. It didn't help probably since I did walk too much my first few days since that is what you do when visiting a new place and soaking it all in. And I was sweating like crazy since with my jacket and jeans on although it was like 65 degrees. The first night I arrived I was all excited to head out but my body just couldn't function and with the headache I crashed right to sleep.
So I did some reading up for a next visit and from what I found everybody is just different, but if you've been in higher altitudes before and didn't get any symptoms you should maybe make out better as you're just one of the lucky ones or your body is used to living in a higher altitude. I'm a bit concerned of returning for that reason and instead planning a Cartagena visit next time.
But, although I felt that terrible and still drank my alcohol and beers while staying up to 3 am every night, I managed to go out every night and call in for fun with the escorts although some of it's a bit fuzzy and I ended up having to sleep more than I would have liked! If you don't drink there are prescription drugs to help I've read or just do continuous daily dosing of ibuprofen to help with the symptoms. Sounds like you'll be fine though if have done the 7000 feet thing already and managed, but it is another 1600 feet and maybe that's your bodies breaking point. Incremental steps up to higher altitude is the best way to adjust. Or just say that and use it as an excuse to visit Medellin.
Have fun if that helps you at all.

Just checked the altitudes I've been to. It's kinda fun. From NYC, altitude what? Zero?
Landed in Cusco (11,152) and thought I'd die within the next few minutes. My buddy (heart problems and older than me, in his mid-50's back then) couldn't grasp what I was talking about.
Boarded the train to Machu Picchu. Disemabarked in Aguas Calientes (6,693). Totally fine.
Next morning went up to Machu Picchu (7,972). Felt the "squeeze" somewhat, tiredness when climbing, but nothing major.
Stayed for a couple of days in Ollyantaymbo (9,160). Surprisingly, didn't feel a thing.
Rode a car to Pisak market (9,751). Quite a squeeze, but no headache.
Finally went back to Cusco for a couple of days. Major squeeze, major headaches on the day 1. Was actually scared to go to bed that night because it felt like I might fail to breathe deep enough. Next morning woke up fresh and ready. The headacke's gone, the squeeze is gone, lots of energy.
And all this time, my buddy is, like, stop fucking around. Never even felt it one bit. .
So, I don't know. I'll be in Bogota next month. Will find out.
Landed in Cusco (11,152) and thought I'd die within the next few minutes.
Cusco is a mf. As soon as the plane landed I felt it. And I thought I was going to die walking up the jetway. I have asthma though. Never any problems in Bogota. Used to be hard walking to immigration then after that fine. These days not even a problem there.
Cusco is a mf.
You don't say! We only had 2 nights in Cusco. First night, buddy wants some action while I'm more interested in staying alive. And he hates hunting alone. There was some major bitching that night.
Sorry to interrupt. As much as I want to visit Macchu Piccu one day, isn't this the Bogota forum? Seems like the topic has veered from altitude sickness in Bogota to Cusco. Just saying.
Fellas,
I'll be visiting from May 17-23 if anyone wants to hang out!
Just got to my hotel, not sure their policy on girls but just coming from the airport I'm just amazed by all the ass around here. Even the female hotel security guard has one. Might not be able to wait till tomorrow to go out haha. But what are everyone favorite hang out spots? Also I'm looking for another hotel under $45, that allows chicas and if you could let me know of the fee (if there is one) for them to visit. Looking for a place to sit back, have a drink, watch some chicas, and bang them when I'm ready.

If you don't mind spending a little more go to Lidos or Lalos at night for top notch talent but it is a bit pricey.
Of course you can't go wrong with Santa Fe for the cheapest action.

You cannot beat SF for quality and quantity.
Thanks Woodman, I just checked in there today luckily haha. Started walking toward Santa Fe and chickened out. I'm planning on going there tomorrow afternoon, and going to pussy house tonight (or maybe SF). Not sure why I'm so nervous this trip, I think I just needed to get acclimated, going to do some backpacking this next week and then come back for fun. If I order an escort to my Ibis, how does that work, do I meet her in the lobby and just take her up, or does she have to fill out paperwork or anything? Also if you have info about your tours I'm interested.
These reports seem to take awhile to go through, but I went to Santa Fe last night and had a mixed experience. Went to Troya first, used Uber which is very cheap.
Troya: My waiter totally ripped me off when I was buying beer, the first one I paid with a 50 mil note and didn't check the change well enough, the second one I thought he said 20 mil, so I paid and then went up to the bar because I realized I was getting ripped off. Bar tend shook his head in disgust and said 6 mil! Bartender was very nice. Girls, many were 6's or 7's. Maybe two or three 8's. I didn't really understand how it all worked. So I left after watching for awhile and went to Venus.
Street: plenty of chicas of all types. Only place in Bogota that I've been harrased by people so far, the men were very pushy and grabby. It really annoys me if a guy touches me when I'm walking.
Venus: Walk in, go straight to the bar, a waiter follows me there and asks if I want a beer. He speaks English. So I go sit down, and he brings me a beer, 6 mil and you pay when you leave. This waiter was incredible! His name is Sergio and was very very helpful. The girls in Troya: lots of 5's and 6's a couple 7's. Girls were fairly flat chested or chubby. I like big tits and ass. Finally saw a girl I liked, had my waiter grab her. Waiter said 15 k for a dance. I also bought her a beer (that I knocked over and spilled on her jeans, woops.) 15 mil for a dance, she got completely naked during it, all the touching you want, offered me a hit of coke (I don't usually do drugs though). Lasted about 5 minutes. Not bad for 5 bucks. Ask her how much for sex, she says 70. I tell my waiter, pay my tab, and the three of us head up stairs. She wants another 7 mil for the room. My waiter starts arguing with her and says no, she pays for room and goes in, my waiter pulls me aside and says Do Not Give Her More Money! I go in room and she asks for more. So I say if its bien 7 mil propina. It was very bien! I know the going rate is 60/20, but she was the best looking girl in the club (in my opinion) sex was great, only last 10 minutes, gave her the tip. My waiter was waiting outside, and asked me if anything went wrong. Said no, and went and had another beer before leaving.
Waiter gave me the WiFi, added on WA, and said uber was the best to get home. My cards got declined on uber, (though I used earlier) so I said I needed a cab. He took me outside and found a cab, 10 mil to ibis. (a uber is aprox 5-6 mil) cab driver was nice, and that brings my first night to a wrap.
Went about 10, left about 1.
Stuff I don't quite understand, how you get a girls to sit with you at Troya, I assume you just have to pay for drinks. How much is a dance at Troya? Ill be headed to SF this afternoon and then again tonight I think. How much is a bottle?
If anyone needs help, I will be in Bogota until July 10. I speak English very fluently and Spanish as well. I can take dollars or pesos. I can show you around the Santa Fe clubs and the other clubs such as Pussy house and La 49 and the clubs in the pricey north. Safe mongering!
Hey fellas,
I'll be in Bogota on the 25th and leave to Medellin on the 29th. I am traveling solo, if you are around let me know. 40 year old male, still new to the hobby. My mother tongue is Spanish.
Thanks to all for your reports.
