Is Jenny's safe to exchange a lot of cash?
The best policy is to change dollars at Jenny's grocery, and pay the room bill in pesos upfront. You'll save over changing money at the hotel.
Its pretty sensible if you think about it. If you can't manage your spending well, it ensures your room is paid for, without resorting to cash machines, an extra 20% with credit cards, etc. I always paid for my room upon arrival, and one less thing to think about. $300 upon arrival for several days is not a big deal.
It also protects them, in case some guy gets a burr up his butt and decides to leave early, leaving them with a vacant room, and no time to fill it with another guest, or has trouble with his credit card, etc. Everyone has their own ways, but I usually just carried cash, traveled straight from the airport to Costambar, and after a quick stop to change money, to the hotel. Once in my room, the cash stayed in the room safe, and taken out for changing to pesos as needed during my stay.
I get your point, but if I am going to be giving that much dough at check in is it safe to exchange that much at one time at Jenny's?
Can you pay for stay in Dollars?
M911, I don't recall that Jenny's was open at night, anyway, but by day, I never had a problem. I usually bought some items like bottled water anyway, so I looked like the scores of other expat customers leaving there everyday. One never flashes cash anywhere in the DR. Just my experience, I guess. As I mentioned before, if the person asking is nervous about carrying cash, stop at Jenny's immediately upon arrival in Costambar. Have the cab wait for you. Change the cash, go back directly to the cab, and he will drop you off at the front door. Once there, walk around the area and get a feel for your self what the level of security is.
That sounds cool. I am from Chicago so I am used to not flashing cash around. Is it OK to pay for stay in dollars upon arrival at BB's? Than I won't have to cash out as much at Yenny's.
