I just had an incident happen to me that really pissed me off. I go into a new barbershop. If you are walking on the right side of Dr. Rosen and you make a right and goto the last business on the commercial strip there is a Barber Shop. I walk in and there are three barbers sitting in the chair chilling. The next up invites me to his chair and I ask him how much is a shave and haircut as I walk to his chair. Ask the question in Spanish. He replies in English: "1000 pesos and that is a good price". down. That is why Medellin is such a breath of fresh air to me these days. Go where you are treated best people.
While in the Su I attempted to get a haircut. I went to the barbershop, they remembered me but my man was not there. They kind of tore the place down and move the barbershop a few yards over. Two Barbers sitting down, and all I wanted was a clean cut.
I remember the prices and knew I should have gotten my haircut in Boca Chica. I asked Barber how much and he said 700 pesos. I did not even negotiated. I just walked out. The one Barber, who remembered me told me that prices are different since the pandemic. So you go from 300 to 700 because of Covid? (Dominicans will think of anything to rationalize, charging you more). He offered me a cut for 500 pesos, but I was in motion of leaving and I kept my stride.
I walked up toward the other barbershop, and the barber quickly remembered me. I small talked with him then asked him how much for a haircut? He told me 400 pesos. I gave him 100 peso tip.
I missed the DR a little; but I what I don't miss is the hustle. Its typical for Dominican to lose business in attempt to overcharge you than just charge you a normal price.
Currently in Cali Colombia. The differences is like comparing a Camaro to a Lexus LS. I definitely prefer the smoother ride over the faster ride.
