My experience: Agoda adds taxes on top of the posted rate
I think Agoda advertises the price of a room without taxes. When you click to reserve your room the other fees will be added to the final total.
This has been my experience with Agoda. The listed price does not include taxes. The taxes may bump you up another $5 or so. But I have found Agoda to be very reliable. They have a good selection in all parts of Manila and at various prices. Also, their system works swiftly and accurately. You click on the purchase button and you have instant email confirmation. The confidence of knowing for certain that you have a reservation is worth something. I have reserved rooms several times with other online services and sometimes directly through some hotels' own websites and ended up jumping through some hoops (i.e., follow-up telephone calls) to make sure the deal was sealed.
Locals can get a better price
My gf made a reservation at the Executive Plaza for a one week price of 15,000 Pesos. At the current exchange rate, that comes out to less than $44 US daily. When I checked on Agoda, the room rate was $39 + $7.84 tax each day ($46.84 total).
Now however, she says we might want to try the Tri Place Hotel. She says it is in Cubao. But their web site (triplacehotel.com) lists it in Quezon City. She says they offered a one week rate of 11,000 Pesos. Anyone have any experience with this place? How difficult is it to get to the good entertainment places like EDSA, LA Cafe, and P. Burgos Street from there?

Tri Place advertises cheap rates
Hello,
I am looking for a cheap hotel in the Pasay area.
Last time I was in Manila (back in March), I stayed at Kabayan Pasay in their cheapest rooom, which was about $35 per night, if I remember correctly.
I just checked their website and the rate is up to $44 now.
My gf there just wants to be with me and couldn't care less about the room. And I AM a cheap Charlie and would like to keep my accommodation budget around the $30-$35 range.
Any good suggestion for hotel in that price range (or cheaper) that is similar to Kabayan and close to Kabayan Pasay?
Thanks in advance.
Diver69,
Take a look at triplacehotel.com. They advertise a Pasay location. Not sure if it is exactly where you want. Their rooms are listed from 299 Pesos for a Barkada Room to 2100 Pesos for a Deluxe Elite Room. I'm sure your price range is in there somewhere.
