WARNING on New World Renaissance Hotel, Makati
During my stay in Manila this past week, I had the unfortunate experience to be put up at the New World Renaissance Hotel in Makati. This hotel has the worst girl-unfriendly policy of any upscale hotel in the Philippines. Any guest you bring in must have a valid ID and they make you spend at least 5 minutes at the reception copying down every detail on the girl. The hotel security acts like they are saving the world when they nab a girl and the ladies working the front desk give you plenty of you're-no-good stares while you check-in your guest. This is the only Marriott chain hotel in Asia that I have ever experienced such treatment. Even the Renaissance in Shanghai, China never bothers you to bring a girl to the room.
To add insult to injury, the service is crap as well. From the tiny overpriced rooms to the lousy breakfast buffet, this hotel is to be avoided at all costs.
If Havana Doesn't Pan Out
On a Tuesday night, no less, I was fortunate enough to be escorted by two stunners to the V-Bar disco just around the corner from Havana in the Greenbelt area. It is upscale and pricey by Manila standards and the clietele was non-professional and swanky. The cover charge with some of it consumable was 300 pesos ($6 USD). This is about the equivalent, by my calculation, of a $30 USD entrance fee at New York City. It had plenty of talent and opportunity even on a Tuesday night. Just another option in the Greenbelt area of Makati.
