JRIDE: View Talay Villas is THE Place If You Can Afford the Tariff
USED to be about $80 each for the 3 bedroom house with private pool (maybe beyond your budget as you said 4,500 Baht was too steep but they DO discount the posted rates).
We had parties there with MANY girls and NEVER an issue with joiner fees. Other than cost, the ONLY drawback is the remoteness (you need to walk several hundred meters to get to the main road where you can catch the Baht Bus.) Plush kitchen, Big TV with DVD players in each room etc.

The picture on home page is the 3 bedroom unit we used.
Gladiator: I like the look and location of Siam Bayview a lot but the joiner fee thing prevented me from staying there. A guy on another board CLAIMS he is there now and no fee for first guest per night if you book a double. Would like some verification if anybody else was able to avoid joiner fees there (which I REFUSE TO PAY!)
JRide: We Paid 9,000B, although That was About 2 Years ago
Note the 1 bedroom villas are MUCH more reasonable and still have their own pool (albeit smaller). In addition to the bedroom is a living room which could count as a separate party area.
Is this hotel girl friendly?
Dear traveller,
The hotel looks neat, and reasonably priced, how would you rate thier location and are they girl friendly or they charge extra?
Please specify.
Thanks
BT

My Solution to Joiner Fees
Upon arrival stash your belongings with a friend or at a trusted gogo (or even rent an ST room!) find a companion for the evening, THEN check in the Hotel! Make up a name when you make reservation (if they won't accept "Mr. and Mrs. Falang) then when the names differ say you sent the wife back to Isaan and brought the Mia Noi instead!)
I think I may well do that and stay at the BayView next month, now that I think about it. (:
I find joiner fees a reprehensible example of opportunistic fleecing (worse even than doubling of bar fines during Songkran. Loi Krathong etc). I wish the Thai Government would be as brutal on hotels charging joiner fees as they are on Karen rebels who cross into LOS from Burma while fleeing oppression by SLORC (they shoot them without bothering with Western niceties like lawyers and trials).
Lazy first-timer needs Hotel help. (sorry if this question sounds like a broken recor
Hi guys,
End of April I am heading to Thailand for my birthday, and will get myself down to Pattaya for 7 days. It will be my first trip there, and now I need some advice on hotels. I will be traveling on my own, no friends or partners in tow.
I will give you a quick story about me, my expectations and experience etc, and that way it might help you in giving advice to me on where you think might fit my preferences.
I am male, Australian, 32 years old. I am single, no wife/kids/girlfriend so very much free to do whatever the hell I want guilt free.
I have traveled to Angeles City in Philippines a few times now for sinful activities. Each time I have visited I have stayed at places that you could consider relatively ‘out of the way’ like the Swagman, Koala hotel etc. If you have been to Angeles and know these places then you know what I mean when I say they are ‘out of the way’. They are probably 10 mins walking or 5 minute trike ride from the main strip of bars, girls etc. This kind of thing really suits me as it means I can easily ‘get away’ from all the crap/noise of the main drag and relax a little. I really don’t mind a nice walk or trike ride for 5 mins to get to the action. They are also relatively friendly and cosy places run by expats so you feel safe, you can drink and eat very comfortably and safely at the in-house bar and restaurant. I am not the type to go for glitzy hotels.
So, that is my little story about what I have enjoyed and liked so far. With this in mind, here is my short list of what I am trying to find in Pattaya:
1. Not a big hotel chain sort of thing. As I have explained above, smaller places are my sort of thing. Hotels make me feel like a number, and that I have to “act nicely”. When the waitress asks me what drink I want, and I say “pu$$y juice” I want her to laugh and have a good conversation with me, not get offended and make someone else serve me. I also like being a lazy sack of sh|t, crawling out of bed in the morning and going to the bar/restaurant in the morning for breakfast/drink in my thongs (‘flip flops’ for all you non-australians), my singlet and underpants. Ok maybe not completely true, but you know what I mean.
2. Girl friendly, and quite realistically understand what you are there for, so you don’t have to feel guilty or hide the fact that your girl is giving you a handj0b under the water in the pool.
3. They can stick joiner fees straight up their ar$e. In no way will I pay that sh|t.
4. Families/kids: Forget it. In no way do I want to be banging the hell out of my chosen nightly companion to have to worry about offending anyone, or having to “act nicely” because some stupid idiot decided to bring his children and wife along. I want to sit in the bar with a hangover the next morning and talk to some other guys about their fun the night before, not have to act like a gentleman and talk to some woman or family about the weather. I don’t want to have to worry about when a girl is getting frisky and I hang my c0ck out for a look that some idiot is going to be offended.
5. Price: I really would start to think twice if I had to pay over 2500 a night. This is not to say that I will be happy to pay 2500, because the cheaper the better. I feel perhaps 1000 a night is a realistic asking price, but if there is a standout place for up to 2500, then I would still consider if all criteria are met.
6. Location: if I had to walk more than 10mins, or ride baht bus more than 5 mins to get to the girly bars, I would start to question the location. I don’t really know which areas of pattaya are the best for girls, bars etc. As far as the beach goes, yeah sure I will probably go to the beach a few times, but I don’t mind a 5 – 10 min walk for that. I am sure all the beachfront places are overpriced hotels anyway. Also close enough so when you tell the girl where you are going she doesn’t get a frown on her face and complains.
7. Quiet: I don’t expect anywhere in Pattaya to be quiet, but please don’t put me somewhere near a road or nightclub in adjacent room etc. Also, if you suggest a place, tell me which rooms are noisy and which rooms are quiet. Maybe you might have advice like rooms on lower floors are noisy, deluxe rooms up top are quiet etc. I do like my sleep ins!
8. Aircon would be nice.
9. A pool would be nice.
10. A view would be nice.
11. A balcony or some sort of private outdoor area would be nice (And when I list these things as ‘nice’ I mean that if they are not there, then there better be some other fantastic reason for why I would stay there in absence of a pool, aircon etc).
12. Security. At least a lockable box in reception/office etc for cash/passport.
13. Quality: Hmm, maybe around what you would expect at the 2 – 3 star level? Not sure if that is realistic? I’ve stayed in some real sh|t holes in Philippines before and still had a fantastic time. Ive also stayed in penthouses with private pool before and it has been great to just hang out nude and bone your girl all over the place, in pool etc. So please feel free to tell me about incredibly lavish places as well. I am open to all suggestions if they fit all my other criteria.
14. Internet at least somewhere in the building. Would be nice to check email for 5 minutes once a day. I wont take my own PC, just whatever is there for public use.
15. Bar/restaurant of decent hygiene level: The place should have its own bar and restaurant so if I feel like being a lazy fat ar$e slob I can just hang out there and not need to go out. It would need to be the type of place that isn’t going to infest me with food poisoning every day. Bonus would be to actually have attractive girls working there, not some fat hogs older than my mother.
Sorry for such a long post, and sorry if you think this is a large list of demands, but definitely want to list out my criteria and be very clear so you guys can give very good advice.
Thanks everyone.
