I want to recommend a legitimate massage place .....
What exactly do you mean by 'legitimate massage place'?
Is it an euphimism for a place where they won't let you f**k?
(This is supposed to be a serious question)
I want to recommend a legitimate massage place for those of you who are running low on gas and staying near Soi 33 (read Livingstones).
I totally agree, this is like going to heaven without getting laid :)
Seriously speaking, I did a 120 minute session while my buddy was doing Miki at Akane up the soi and excellent service, all legit. Highly recommended.
This is my first trip to Thailand. A short jaunt from my current base in another asian country. My luck could be better. I've tried 2 gogo girls (one from patpong--a "mistake" I know) and the other from Nana, and neither had the first idea about their jobs. Total dead fish. I've run across this type before, but at least they tried. These girls were awful.
I then tried Annie's fishbowl near Nana based on some touting on the Internet. Again, just awful. I finally picked a girl out of guilt, and thinking I should have one shot at the soapy experience, but after she got close I just left and wrote off the 1500B plus mamasan tip.
Okay, that said, I know that this is monger heaven--my god, there are hookers hanging out in front of McDonalds! But still, I've not quite hit the jackpot. I know, RTTF.
In the news you can use category, the Infinity JC place just off of Patpong is completely renovated (based on the old reviews I read, which were blase). It looks quite upscale and elegant. The girls there were very tasty looking, including about 4 bona fide stunners (at least at 6pm on Thursday). Unfortunately, I hit that joint first, and they were quoting 4k-5k, which was double what I had read on the net, so I thought it was a ripoff. They came down to 3k, but that was still higher than the old report. My sense, however, is that they have improved the quality about 2 or 3 notches. The other clients there appeared to be japanese. Another soapy nearby, Versailles, was closed for renovations.
I've got one more night. Any sure bets?
It depends. Is it a GSM or CDMA phone? - LG makes different versions for different carriers - for example, if yours is a Verizon phone, it's CDMA, and you can't use it in Thailand, period. If it's a GSM phone, what are the frequency bands that it supports, as not all bands can be used in both the U.S. and Thailand. We really can't deduce anything unless we know what carrier service you use in the U.S., as that is what dictatates the characteristics of a phone bought in the U.S.
As a general rule, phones that are sold through U.S. carriers are NOT compatible with many of the international GSM frequencies. But some are - they are called Quad Band GSM world phones - but unless you specifically sought out such a thing when you acquired your U.S. cell phone, it is highly unlikely that you would have one of these.
There are 4 GSM frequencies in use throughout the world. Also called bands. 850 and 1900 mhz are the ones used in the Americas while 900 and 1800 mhz are the ones used in Europe and most of Asia. That includes LOS, HK and the Phils, to name 3 favorite monger destinations. There are very few countries outside the US that use CDMA; I think South Korea may be the only one in Asia?
A standard dual band phone bought in the US will not work overseas; by the same token, a dual band phone bought overseas will not work in the US. Tri band phones will overcome some of that, but your best bet for full coverage anywhere that has GSM is to buy a quad band phone, that way all four bands are covered. You can pick one up on Ebay for relatively cheap. So that cheapie phone you buy at the mobile phone stand in BKK is likely a dual band phone that will not work in the US, but that's OK if you don't intend to use it at home.
But this also brings up an issue that I discuss with friends but no one really has an answer - where have all the good looking freelancers gone? A few years ago the Nana Disco was packed, the Nana parking lot was packed, Thermae was packed, the Beer Garden was packed, Sukhumvit was packed, the Grace was packed. None of these places are that great any more - so where did they go? Nobody seems to know - are there just a lot fewer girls in the biz than there was five years ago? Or are they so spread out now?
Dear DR, it is obvious to anyone who is following the decline of Thailand as a destination for our hobby that the numbers and even moreso the quality of both freelancers and girls who are pimped by bars has fallen precipitously. That, coupled with continued growth in the numbers of desperate first world men visiting means that prices are shooting up, service is becoming rapidly worse, and scams are being attempted more often.
Thailand is just a few years away from becoming a South Korea.

I understand that a law regarding such a fine has been in place since well before 2007, but as to how it has been enforced in these areas at various times is another matter. No doubt this situation has driven many P4P TGs off the streets. That being said, however, IMO there still seems to be an abundance of fine shrimp available to tap. In the past, perhaps, there was an over abundance, which would also explain the drop in numbers. Another factor involved could be the drop in tourism, hence less customers. The recent hot BKK weather does not help, and a little bird told me her friends in Phuket say there are many farang.
Most USA providers have "international roaming" but it does cost. It works for me as I can receive and send calls without anyone knowing where I am (when I'm suppose to be in NYC and am instead in BKK). NOTE: The giveaway is the ringing tone to an alert caller. The subject of SIM-card/frequency capable phones have already been beat to death so I won't discuss it further.
It showed two girls trying to get Farang husbands in a Bar in Nana, only problem was the bar wasn't anywhere near Nana. It was a pool bar that faced onto a main road.
Rednose
Very disappointing - couldnt work out where the sort of arcade was where the girls bar was - no full shots of Nana or anywhere really.
Some funny descriptions of terms like "barfines" and "ladydrinks" .
Managed to see most of it when wife was upstairs so avoided awkward questions about my forthcoming trip
I want to recommend a legitimate massage place for those of you who are running low on gas and staying near Soi 33 (read Livingstones). Cefle is an upscale, legit, professional place offering a variety of masssage therapys. I chose the 90 minute oil massage for 600 bhat or about $20 us. Absolutely outstanding service. This place is opposite the "Office Bar and Grill" in an alley just offof Soi 33/2. Tiled floors and walls. First level devoted to foot massage. Second level traditional Thai massage in one open space with clothes on. Fourth level nice individual rooms with their own shower for pre and post massage. This is the kind of place you can hit in your "down" time. I could see doing this each day staying at Livingstones.
Your a sick sick puppy, going for a torture session with no fun. Just kidding :D
The girl must have been stupendously gorgeous to be worth it.
But I thought the 'General Reports' thread was for non-mongering stuff.
Thank you ALL for chiming in on my question. I successfully unlocked my SAMSUNG T629 phone, got a new SIM card (and phone number) and 100 baht extra credits at MBK for the grand total of 700 baht. So I did save about $7.

BR
There are no such things as sure bets, because so many variables. But PM me for a couple of suggestions.

If all of this is true it's truly problematic. Do other experienced mongers agree with this view of monger scene degradation in Thailad ?
I was there almost two years ago and it seemed there was enough numbers and quality, was the 19th of September the turnaround of all of this ?

I actually don't agree with this. While my Thailand experience only goes back 3 years, I have NOT seen a noticeable degradation over those 3 years. What I have seen is that some venues have declined (NEP and Nana Car Park), while others (Biergarten) have improved. In terms of the particular caliber of ladies that I ended up going with, the most recent trip that I just returned from - it seemed to me that I was finding better ladies on average than the past couple of trips at the same prices. This was observed in both Bangkok and Pattaya.
There are very few countries outside the US that use CDMA; I think South Korea may be the only one in Asia?
CDMA is the basis for what we call 3G in the UK. Most 3G phones are GSM and CDMA, due to the lack of coverage. But I you have a standard SIM and buy a CDMA handset, you will probably only be able to use the GSM functionality.

Define degradation?
If you mean looks, one could argue whether more or less stunners available. As I get older, less (relative to service) demanding when it comes to looks ;)
If you mean 'service', I would agree that over the past 25-30 years, level of service at MP and freelancers have gone down...I think primarily due to more mongers and less educated/demanding clientele.
POV, other's might not agree.
