Sending money to Colombia
I just looked up the exchange rate of the colombian peso and the US dollar. They seemed to be locked in at. 0004 to the dollar. Yet when I send money to colombia, western union charges a different exchange rate every time. Why is that?
Thanks
Mel
The best way to always get the true daily exchange is a bank card.
Easy to control for you , a seperate account , no hassle and no bank charges if you are a preferred customer.
It is only in the last 2 years that US dollar restrictions have been increased but it is still only nominal amounts , I believe $500 a month through Banco Colombia.
Bank cards however allow virtually unrestricted amounts to enter .

phoning colombia from st martin/st maarten
hi all,
i bought some Inter calling cards on the french side and used them to call Eva in Pereira. The cost was 1 Euro per minute. Skype appears to be 0.77 Euro per minute, which is not much less.
Anyone have any other cheaper methods: other brand cards, or cellphone company charges, etc.
thanks

zing
Zing,
my own opinion is that Skype is far cheaper than a calling card because it is consistent in pricing where a lot of cards charge extras and then expire suddenly.
Skype is my prefered method of calling home when I am away.
Sitting in a hotel tonight in Shenzhen, China and when I called my wife in Peirera an hour ago the charge was 11.9 cents a minute CND dollars. If I phone her on her cell it is 12.8 cnd a minute.
I am calling customers in the USA & Europe for 2.4c using Skype.
Discounting the dollar to US is another 15%
