Osu - Hawkers, Hustlers, Pimps and Hos
Hi all,
just back from another trip to Ghana where I travelled all over. Will report more on that when I have time. I stayed in Osu for the first time, at Frankies for a few nights which is an ok place but in my opinion, as Osu seems to be the place that many tourists gravitate to when in Accra, so it also attracts some of the flotsam to be found in Accra. Walking down the street you are constantly hassled by all sorts of low life seeking a way into your wallet, and these people are simply not typical of 99% of Ghanaians. Also the hotels (Frankies, Penta etc) are relatively expensive at $69 a single room compared to similar standard hotels elsewhere. I got hustled by some Ivorian who hangs out outside Frankies, also propsitioned on the street by what I assumed to be a regular girl (she was not anything special). Stupidly I took her up on her offer and after 30 minutes of action she demanded $50, man I'm fucking stupid, she even punched me in the face the *****, I got rid of her with 300,000 and learned my lesson, never again. I hate the pros, I just didn't think she was one.
I will never again stay in Osu, I simply don't see the attraction of the place though I do have a good friend who lives there (Ghanaian) so will visit.
Recommended Budget Accra Hotel
Newhaven Hotel
This place is located just behind Paloma complex on the ringroad also near Busy Internet. It was recommended by a Ghanaian friend, I would never have found it. Nice courtyard, leafy with trees, rooms are pretty basic but with a fan and shower/toilet, very good value for 120,000 cedis per night, or for 230,000 you can have aircon and a massive bed. Paloma is great for eating, Champs Sports Bar also there. And no hustlers like in Osu. No problem bringing ladies of course.
Age of Consent in the World
The Italian version of Wikipedia reports a world map of the age of consent which looks to be better updated than the one displayed in the English edition.
Unfortunately Ghana is not determineted but since Togo,Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast have assumed 13,12,15 it should be for Ghana something alike.
As I check, Yemen looks to be the "most liberalist" with an age of consent of 9. Good position of Nigeria with 12 or 13, it is not clear.Moslem countries have a low age of consent, generally.
