Barko, you are a snob.
"Now that's quick. Have you always been this quick, or is this something new?"
Thanks Naughty. Somebody out there has to do it, might as well be me. I'm old as dirt and WTF I deserve it.
Hope that answers it. Where do you stay?
I stay at the Westin, Sheraton or Meridien. All "blind eye guest friendly" in my experience. I haven't found them to be snobbish to me or my guests. I also wouldn't categorize them as HiSo which is why I was trying to understand better your comment.
I can't imagine a girl heading back to Soi Cowboy the next night 'he took me to the Sheraton' and all the girls drooling so I am not sure how staying in these places scores you big with the girls.

Go ahead call me a snob, you did ask though.
For my guys, it's the Grande Centre Point Ratchadamri one bedroom, ;):
I second this - outstanding property, free wifi, good coffee shop (excellent pastries and cakes), lap size pool and good gym, really nice rooms. And close to BTS, MBK, Siam Paragon (all the hi-so hotties :) )
Just a little pricier than the standard Sukhumvit haunts.
I noticed I booked a room for 1 person, but it is it the same price booking the same room for 2 persons. Can this be a problem if I bring a girl back to the hotel?

Depends on hotel. Always book for Mr. and Mrs. or Mr. and guest....

BTW: The brunch at the Millennium yesterday was outstanding, starting with single ice blocked Estonian vodka and Caspian Sea caviar, (all you can consume of course) and ending with a very nice flourish, an ice cream chef that hand dips custom colors & flavors with nuts & hand made whipped cream to resemble popular sushi. (You get your own personal guide and sommelier to show you what's what throughout.) Lots of outstanding imported seafood and chops. Rack of lamb, Beef Bourguignon made with real French Burgundy, and two prime rib stations, one "bleu" (still mooing) and one medium rare+. Many customizable salad and bread combinations as well. Lots of snarky looking Japanese dudes there with haughtily creeped out over the top gelled spiky hairdos, their golf club bags awaiting in the foyer.

Barko,
Thanks, I made my Millenium Booking for very near future.
Look forward to taking my girl to the sumptuous feast too.
Its also a pleasure to read post from you in basically normal English for a normal subject. I don't miss all that hyped up funny talk (I don't even know what its called) ;)
Will shortly be in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son, so might be looking for special things out of ordinary for "pai thiao" in a non mongering sense. Probably have done most of the standard Touristy things in Chiang Mai.
Any special suggestions?
Obviously my girl will want to see the baby Panda.
In Mae Hong Sorn we go for the spectacular Calcite crystal cave Tham Kaew Komol and visit also Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu.
Sorry folks, I probably should move some of this post to Chiang Mai thread, but as it doesn't relate to sex mongering, thought no harm to leave it here.

As I am the Rabbit, I know the girls call you the Panda. So as a point of clarification.... your girl will want to see your baby panda or she will only want to see the newborn panda in the zoo?
:D :D
I liked Baantawai (seen it spelled baantawai and Ban Tawai) have you hit that up yet? South West... down Chiangmai - Hod Rd (Rt 108)

The zoo of course!
There's nothing baby sized about me. ;)
Not an elephant, not a mouse, so Panda is about right.
I have done handicrafts places before.
I have to stay absolutely clear of any Jewelery places of course!
Barko,
Thanks for the tip. Do you know if there is an option to pay a higher upgrade fee to an Executive Room with access to the Lounge?
Cheers,
Rambis
do you know if there is an option to play a higher upgrade fee to an executive room with access to the lounge?
hey rambis,
i'll just bet that there is. be prepared to pay an extra 1100 baht or more though. i have a buddy going in there later this week, will have him do a check.
keep in mind that using the other wotif secret deal available on that page (for 2999 baht) really is a great deal too, this has breakfast for two included, normally it's 800 per person.
btw, the executive lounge did have some real cute attendants when i checked it out and there was no one in there but the two girls and me, nice. but for some reason they didn't think i was very funny. until i came back dressed correctly. (very often i book stuff on the fly and seriously at the last second, no time to print out a voucher for the front desk. so i talk them into letting me use the exec lounge to print the thing, and the receptionist powers up my normal keycard to give me exec floor access. heh. all i really need is the booking #, which i could easily write down, but this gives me club access. am i bad or what? )
the exec club rooms are exactly the same as the grand deluxe, just on the exec floor. if you plan on using their computers, don't, they are the slowest clunky junkers in bangkok. very nice laser printers however.
all grand deluxe rooms have blisteringly fast internet, download speeds are sensational, but ftp uploads are seriously in the upper stratosphere for thailand: i was doing 1 gig zip files, five at a time, every 20 minutes. hello, that's fifteen gigs an hour. uploads? this alone is a great reason to stay there. hell, this alone is a great reason to live there!
more later.

The room has been good. Very comfortable beds and good view.
The evening buffet fell a bit short. I have had significantly better at lesser Hotels, like Century Park. Perhaps due to low season, the sushi was a bit inadequate, for example. My GF got all 5 Salmon slices and they did not replenish them later. I had to fall back to Tuna. They did have that silly crab-stick stuff (a bit low class for the sushi).
Some salads were good.
Did not seem to have any roasts. For hot food there was a fairly limited selection each of Chinese, Thai, Indian and Western dishes, cooked on request. GF had some Duck, I had fish which was rather ordinary.
Deserts were probably the best part.
Did not seem to have any roasts.
Thanks for the report.
Hey Mick, did you go for the 1700 Baht per person Sunday brunch? IMHO, the normal buffet isn't anything to write home about and after perusing it on Saturday evening, we simply gave it a pass. Sunday is the day. Using the hotel guest discount, the 15% off coupon, and skipping the wine, you can get it down to 1100 Baht. Still pricey, but good. We just went whole hog with the thing, teased the wait staff & some of the patrons quite a bit, and enjoyed that couple of hours immensely.
Oh well, next up is a test run of the Column Residence, it's just down the street and across Suk. Reviews say that the rooms are super nice. (Not Compass or Accor) Just hope it's GF!
Thanks for the GM hotel tip. Just booked 2 rooms for my brother and myself for early September. I usually just stay at Majestic Suites next to Nana, so this will be a fun change of pace. Afterward, we're heading to Krabi for scuba diving, and our room there is 500 baht a night;)
A question for those of you who have stayed at the Dynasty Grande.
Is it worth the little more it costs to book a Grande Deluxe room vs. the Deluxe room? I think it only costs like $6 more, but is it worth the difference?
Thanks
I often get upgraded to the better room, because I bring business associates there. I like the upgraded room, because I like sitting in the window seat while working on my computer. Other than that, there is just not much difference in rooms.
