This post was made to offer a different perspective on how to handle a demanding situation in light of the recent incident of a fellow American monger at TL.
In order to handle these situations, one needs to leave his / her pre-conceived notions as to how justice is delivered behind; and especially the US variant which is different but just as corrupt.
Just from your response, it is clear to me that you do not have a solid grasp on Dominican culture and how things work in real life (google "Timothy Schwartz Dominican Justice" for an insightful treatise.)
And what computer system are you referring to: the high-tech, satellite linked PCs that PN carries on every moto and in every car?
You didn't bother checking, didn't bother asking, maybe even didn't want to know? But you pretty much knew what you were doing and rolled the dice! Playing with fire you always risk being burned!
Like others said below, likening this to a traffic ticket were you "grease" the cop is absurd. You're lucky you weren't thrown in jail a very very long time. I would never go back to the DR if I were you for you might be in their computer systems and the whole thing could happen to you all over again with other people wanting to extort.
Go back to the monger drawing board and start from scratch. The basic do's and do not's. Could save your life amd / or jail time!
