I was in TJ last weekend and have two experiences in Las Chavelas to share. Here’s the first report.

[B]The Place[/B] : Found myself in Tijuana Saturday evening and decided to check Las Chavelas. This place is next to Hong Kong and built like a typical Mexican bar but pretty decent sized with two entrances on North and South sides (like Hong Kong) and plays only Mexican music. There was a stage in the middle for a live band but I did not see any while I was there (told by the server that they are there after 8PM). I was told they share the same owner with Hong Kong but caters more to the locals than gringos.

[B]How it works[/B] : You can buy the girls their Fichas ($7 of which they get $3 at end of their shift) and can sit with them or dance on the floor with them. The girls look a little more homely / natural (which can be a plus or minus based on your preference) than the ones in other bars like Adelitias and Hong Kong. Most only speak Spanish and you will need to be able to speak at least some level of Spanish to really be able to enjoy this bar. The girls range from average to some diamonds-in-the-rough but the Spanish disclaimer is still relevant. The cost of drinks is same as any other bar ($3. 50 for your beers/$7 for girls drinks). I invited a 21-year old to come have a drink with me and dance on a few songs and generally sit and hang-out with me. The experience is more like a typical Hostess Club in downtown LA than like AB or HK. We sat / talked / danced for about 45 minutes with 2 drinks for each of us. One important thing to note is that not all girls in this bar go upstairs to the room and are there to just make money of fichas. For those that do go upstairs. The standard $60 is the prevalent rate and they use the same hotel as Hong Kong uses (Cascadas).

[B]Final Comments[/b] : It is a nice change of pace from HK and AB and the fun you can have is directly in line with how fluently you can speak Spanish. If you like to sit / drink / dance with your girls before you take them upstairs and can speak some level of Spanish to hold a conversation. This is a good place for a change!

Stopped in on LC last week and was not particularly impressed. I wouldn't say that all the girls were fat. I wouldn't say that they were all unattractive either. But, the quality just wasn't there when compared to HK Club, Adelita, and Tropical Bar. It got a wee bit better late at night, but not enough for me to stick around on foot patrol with high hopes of finding somebody who would appeal to me.

I found the meseros to be the most annoying here of all of the clubs I went to. Constantly presenting girls and asking if I wanted to buy them drinks and the girls asking for tips. Regardless of whichever club I was at, I never felt compelled to talk to or sit with a girl and buy her drinks if she didn't appeal to me. Nor would I tip just because a girl asked.

If I didn't call her over or ask a mesero to bring her over, and if I wasn't squeezing on her big, fat fanny or grinding my stiff pecker into her ass gap, then I felt no obligation or pressure to tip a girl or buy her drinks. And believe me over four days I bought drinks and tipped a plenty! Copiously! But only when I wanted to, and not because a mesero or tute was asking me to.

Overall, I have to say that for me LC was a thumbs down.

What's funny is that I've been with one or two of the more attractive ones from Las Chavelas. The next thing I know, they have permanently moved on to Tropicals. They were the thinner ones. So is there a weight minimum one must be to stay at this place?

About a month ago, some girls came from other bars to Chevelas to work. But as of last week, the better looking ones went back and Las Chevelas is now mostly stocked with fat girls. And if they're not fat, they're very short and scrawny. Rates run from 600 - 800 pesos per half hour. Weight and pesos seem to have an inverse relationship. Heavier girls mean lower pricing and vice-versa. I generally use it to either cool down or as a short cut to the alley. LC plays rancheros and banda music; HK plays a mix of Latin and Nortenos music. The target clients are 2 different crowds. Clearly HK is preferred by Gringos, Chinos and younger Mexicanos. L see is full of ranch hands with cow boy hats and snake-skin boots full of cow shit hehe.

A good chunk of the time its pretty dead in LC. However I would base it on the day and time you go there. While many complain about HK being to crowded with dudes on weekends, LC is my favorite bar for a Friday or Saturday night. It gives off more of the feeling you are in a pick up bar than a h o bar. I used to get that feeling in Tropical, but since the remodel its just not the same over there.

I checked into Hotel Cascadas in the middle of the week, and dropped by Las Chaveles about 7 pm to see if there was any action, but it was kind of dead. There were just a handful of girls scattered around the bar, and a couple of customers. I ordered a drink and sat at the bar while adjusting to the darkness. I do think there is a correlation (a strong one really) between how the girl treats you on the floor (while drinking etc.) and how she will treat you upstairs / outside of the club. I have yet to be with a LC girl (which might change fairly soon). Still, The Tall Man makes a good point here and I must agree based on experiences at some of the other places. As for Las Chavelas, I usually get a mixed-feeling when I go in there. It seems to have gone downhill during my past 2 or 3 visits in terms of talent / quality working there. For me, it's usually a "wait and see game" when I get down there whichever bar I end up at. I still must admit that "Adelitas" is the most improved bar in terms of girl quality that I have seen over the past year or so. Finally, as for Explorer8939's comments regarding his experience at Las Chavelas (and I agree 100%) - it seems as if the place really does not get going until after 9 or 10pm - meaning, the girls don't seem to really warm-up until then. Every other trip I will go into Las Chavelas for the bucket of beer coupon and after checking into my room, I come back and drink the bucket. Still, I am simply there to drink - not necessarily expecting much in the way of friendliness or talent. After 10pm or so, the vibe does change a bit.

You newbies have no idea how bad Chaveles used to be. Chaveles used to be the old folks home for Sinaloa. The new girls would start at Bar Tropical and end up at LC when they couldn't cut it at Tropical any more.

Often when I want a drink to drink instead of checking the chicas out.

The San Ysidro California public school district looks the other way while US citizen kids cross the border every day to illegally attend American public schools there. I say "illegally" because even though they're US citizens they don't live in the district or pay taxes in the district. Therefore the taxpayer money that's supposed to be there for the education and enrichment if San Ysidro residents gets spread extra thin to support the out of district kids who are cheating the system. I honestly don't have a dog in this fight. If San Ysidro voters don't have a problem with it then it is what it is. But what I want to see is a reality where these kids don't see crossing the border every day and attending a school that they're not legally supposed to be attending as their best option. I want these kids to be able to attend good quality public schools in Tijuana. How do we make that happen? For now just keep organizing, keep lobbying, keep advocating for change and progress.

In Tijuana it's coming from 20 different places. There's a lot going on. An international airport. A major soccer stadium, along with the agua caliente casino complex. The maquiladora factories adds a lot to the economy. The import export shipping logistics, banking, medical tourism. I was reading a report that illicit money is what is pushing up real estate prices, most notably on the higher end properties valued in the millions of dollars. You have to take into account just how much illicit money ends up in the Tijuana economy. But hell, there's got to be some way to harness some of that money and funnel it into education. And if they want to fix the security problem they need to expand their court system. They need more courts, more judges, more prosecuting attorneys. Even if the cops did arrest half the perpetrators of crimes, the court system would immediately become overwhelmed. They don't have anywhere near the capacity to prosecute even half of the committed crimes, that's why like 90% of crimes no one ever gets arrested.

Some agree to the lesbian shows. Most have to spend a certain amount of time (usually an hour) in Chavelas. Once they put their hour in, they get the right color wristband. So these are the same girls that are in HK.

As KoolBeans pointed out, some like it there. They do often have live music. Or Banda. Many girls do see it as timeout. But you can use that to your advantage too. The sad girls see it as downtime.
