Antifreeze,
I have been to Cali several times, usually for busines. On my last visit, I went to Flores Frescas and to Kaliente.
My time and dollars are for Kaliente. Yes. A little on the expensive side but found them to be really good looking and great service. Flores Frescas was just OK for me.
I would like to see other places and will see if we can get together during my next visit. I plan on being there in late February.

As I told Antifreeze, the SHOW at Flores Frescas is worth the 15K admission but better value for doing the deed is certainly available elsewhere.
The Sexta SWs DO have some nerve demanding 60K when one can get fs in a casa for less (generally, freelancers are CHEAPER!). SOME of the Sexta SWs are top quality and worth a few extra pesos IMHO. If you get introduced to them, they will want 100K (as they must pay a chulo fee of 40K) BUT one must use discretion in approaching them as they do not dress any sluttier than the "regular" girls. Also, unless they dislike you you can get longer substantially longer than an hour with them (whereas casas operate on time).

I have been asked to compare Cuba with Cali, Columbia. After having taken over 30 trips to Cuba, I recently visited Cali, Columbia. I noticed the following differences:
In Cuba, virtually every woman is for sale. However, many are
semi-pros or amateurs. A GFE therefore is very possible or even probable. The women want to stay all night. That is what is generally negotiated for. The hardest thing to do in Cuba is to get rid of a chica. They don’t want to leave.
Professionals in Cali are very easy to find. The city is full of casas, and there are plenty of SW’s along Ave Sexta in the evening. Semi-pros were there if you searched, but didn’t seem as plentiful. In the casas and with many of the SW’s, everything is by the hour. You have to talk them into staying the night. The rest of the women wanted relationships of some sort. Dates with non-pros were easy to get, but you weren’t going to get laid the first couple of dates.
Sex is expected from the start in Cuba. I’ve actually seen women insulted if you didn’t go to bed with them. Maybe it’s because Columbia is very Catholic and almost all of the hundreds of women I’ve dated in Cuba had no religion.
If you go with a woman for an hour or less, Cali is now cheaper than Cuba. All night with a SW or semi-pro was somewhat cheaper in Cali also. All night with a Cali casa girl was double what they cost in Cuba.
The average Columbian woman is far more beautiful than the average Cuban girl. However, Cuban women will aggressively come after you. The Columbians are more reserved. The Cuban girls are wilder in bed IMHO, although Columbian girls seem to want to make out more. They like more foreplay.
Prices for drinks, food and lodging seem about equal. However Columbia has everything you would want to buy, while things are far more limited in Cuba.
There’s the political thing, too. In Cali, the police and military were there to help you, while the goal of Cuban police is to extort you and try to put your girl in prison without trial. I wouldn’t want to be a policeman in Havana when Castro finally dies. Everyone hates them.
In Cali, you’re free to roam wherever is safe; in Havana, your chica takes a big chance being seen with you in public. This was one of the major reasons for my Cali visit. I’m tired of skulking around or staying in with a girl who doesn’t want to go out.
Street crime seems more prevalent in Cali than Havana. Cuba has no guns. You can buy a handgun in Cali for about $40. (US). Cali streets that can be walked during the day must be traversed by cab at night. I have never had this problem in Cuba. Yet, with my guide, I always felt safe in Cali.
If you’re looking for a lot of different (and beautiful) girls for short time and very inexpensive, Cali would be the choice. If you crave instant GFE with a semi-pro or amateur, Cuba would be better.
I’m returning to Cali next week for another two weeks. This time one of my US friends is coming along also. I think I got the lay of the land well enough to have a very good time. I also cultivated a girlfriend if I care to go that route some of the time.

Having just read the last 24-25 pages of Cali information, I feel I have a good frame of reference for my first adventure to the inland. Thanks to all for the valuable Intel. I spent several weeks in CTG in 2002 and from the conversations with my fellow travelers and first hand experience of the smorgasbord of girls I had I became determined to travel to Cali. Hence, I am leaving Friday, Jan 9 for about ten days in punnany paradise. Although, I have traveled to many of the hotspots Rio, Bangkok, DR, Cuba, TJ I would love to grab some cervezas and get the lay of the land from the veterans, I’m 35 years old from Los Angeles email is [blue][Email address deleted by Admin][/blue].
One question please; I’m leaning towards the Hotel Don Jaime bases on its proximity to Avenida Sexta as I don’t want to be concerned about walking in the evening back from the bars. Is approximately $20 still the going rate? Do they charge for guests? Any other recommendations for hotels within this area?

Bite your tongue antifreeze. How can you call a city with little to do besides chasing chicas "paradise"? I mean I love the local chicas too, but let us not confuse a city with lots of chicas with a World Class city with MANY diversions (like Cartagena or Rio). And do not be introducing Colorado (or ANYbody) to my future connection to your wife's family!
Colorado: Sorry I will miss you visit as you will be gone before I return. Be careful if antifreeze takes you to a cheap lunch of ceviche near the Mercado or tries to get you to help defray the cost of transporting horses to a cabalgata! LOL! This REALLY is a bummer as I would enjoy discussing your most recent trips to Cuba., despite your opinion that the average Colombiana is better looking.

Surfer, my friend, Cali may not be a paradise to all, but it is surely a paradise to me.
Fact on the matter, I do not like to travel anymore. So, comparing to Sao-Paulo, Rio or else is irrelevant to me. With a kid and wife, traveling has nothing to do with relaxation anymore (Her relaxation is your stress). You end-up going in expensive hotels, spending half your awaken time chasing restaurants and getting rid of people that see you as a life support for a wallet. And they call this vacations... I can live without that.
I live in Cali. As a living environment, I think it is excellent. I have all the services that I would want. It's cheap, secure, full of surprises. Cali is my paradise (which may be someone else's Hell).
Traveling is my Hell.
See ya soon my friend!

Antifreeze, I'll have to agree with you sir.
Although I still enjoy traveling (alone), when I come back to Colombia ... I'm in my PARADISE too.
Medellin is my spot though.

Freeze: You know I love Cali too, but it is not for everyone.
Colorado: Sao Paolo is MUCH larger, more modern, more diversions, more traffic, WAY more high rises, more polluted, more rushed, colder, more expensive than Cali. Imagine Cali as San Diego (but without the beach) and SP as New York (except Paulistanos are MUCH friendlier than New Yorkers). The beach is closer to SP (and Buenaventura area aint in the same league as Guaruja, beachwise).
While I have never had a problem in either, knock on wood, in many ways I feel crime is a larger risk in SP than Cali. Once you leave the city, however, the converse is true (countryside of SP state is very safe, as opposed to rural areas of Valle which are often QUITE dangerous). A bit more English spoken in SP, but not much.
If you have the $$$, the average looks of the girls you can find in a top club like Bomboa is SEVERAL notches better than the top clubs in Cali (Flores Frescas, Kaliente-seen their website but only visited their Popayan branch) . Flores Frescas would be mid to lower end in SP. Colombianas are WAY more eager to emigrate than Brasileras. Colombianas are more nationalistic than Brasileras. In SP, like ALL of Brasil, the bunda (ass) is king whereas boobs are more sought after in Cali.
Hope this answers your questions.
While gringos can do better in SP than Rio (because there are WAY less of them), it will take more WAY more $$$ to impress a Paulista than a Calena.

I'll arrive in Cali about Jan 21 for a few days. I'd like to stay at a decent hotel. So I'm thinking about either the Pacifico Royal Hotel or the IC. I've stayed at IC's in many other countries and never been disappointed. Of course it’s also important that the hotel be “chica” friendly and relatively close to the center of nocturnal activities. Does anyone have a preference between these hotels or maybe another recommendation?
Also based on WSG posts I plan to visit Floras Fresca, and Kaliente Club. Would these be good starting points?
Finally, I have an unlocked GSM phone. Can I buy a SIM card in Cali or how would I go about getting cell phone service?
Any fellow mongers that wanna hook up for a beer, PM me.
Thanks again.

CM,
I personally don't like staying at the IC. All the prices are greatly inflated. Even the street vendors outside are major rip-offs. However, if you don't mind paying double for things (food, room, etc), it's fine. The benefits include safe taxis (not that the others are dangerous, but you'll probably feel better with the ones outside IC) and the staff speaks English. Also, if you like gambling, they have a casino.
I recommend looking at Don Jaime on avenue Sexta. It's a lot cheaper, much closer to the action (street walkers are just outside and Frescas and some casas are within walking distance). Plus, there's many decent restaurants and discos around Don Jaime.

I second the Don Jaime...
It is not a 5 star, but it is very clean, safe, chica-friendly, and affordable. The door men will also get you whatever you want.
Room 304 is a great room. It has a balcony (one of the 5 rooms that has one), nice bar set-up, 2 beds (1 for sex and 1 for sleeping), x-rated cable to get the girls in the mood, walk-in closet to keep you stuff out of site, dining/card table, bathroom with shower stall big enough for a few extra people, and plenty of hot water!
Room safe is not available but they have safety security box at the front desk for your valuables.
VERY CLOSE TO ACTION ALSO. GREAT LOCATION IMHO!
sorry - can't help you with the phone info, although next door to Don Jaime is a internet cafe with international phones available also.

I have recently joined this board and the main reason for which I did is to say a couple of things to Americans who share the same mentality as antifreezer who complaints about girls charging 50.000 pesos which equals to 20 American dollars to get layed for an hour.
How much in the states do you have to pay for an hour? Minimum 150 dollars if I am not wrong. How cheaper do you want it. People need to live here too buddy. As a Colombian and behalf on my Colombian people I'll say to Americans like antifreezer that you are not welcome one bit in my country, it's a real shame that people like you are living here in our city, complainting about prices when Colombia is already cheap and you are trying to make it even cheaper for your own selfish interests, and encouraging others to get women for ten bucks and less, don't come for our women and leave nothing on the table my friend, pack your bags and go back to the states, see if you can get women for less than 20 bucks there for an hour.
Treat Colombians right, we are friendly and warm people but the minute we are mistreated in any way we'll turn into something that you'll be quite amazed man. this is a country in political, social and economical termoil, our economy went far down since 1993, and it's restablishing again. We don't need people contributing to make our economy bad specially not Americans. So if you came here to exploit us and be cheap and above all leave us absolutely nothing in return I hope I never run into you right here where I am writing from in Cali Colombia because I will tell you what I really think since I have to be careful what I write here so I can post this.

Cali Dress Code
I'll be in Cali next week. I've read differing ideas on acceptable attire. For the most part I like to dress casual when on vacation, jeans if it’s cold or shorts if not, Tommy Bahamas and Polo shirts, either tennis shoes or top-siders. General Caribbean casual is my style. On the other hand, I don’t want to be out of place in Cali’s Casas, Bars and Restaurants. So will this be acceptable or do I need to step it up a bit?

ChinaMonger,
The best way to 'blend in' is to wear long pants ie, jeans, slacks etc., a t-shirt or reg polo shirt, NO sunglasses, if you notice hardly anyone wears them, regular shoes or topsiders. That's the way most guys dress I have noticed. I think one would want to 'blend in' in Colombia IMHO.
-
Mojo Rasing,
First welcome to this board. By the way, I am not American. In order to fix prices in a location, one does not need to compare with prices in the US all the time. There is such a thing as a local price where ever you go. Respecting local prices is the best thing to do in order to preserve an economy without relying on 3-4 planes a day filled with Americans landing at your local airport. A wise woman should never prostitute herself all her life. Her situation shouldn't be so comfortable prostituting herself that she wouldn't go back to her dream of becoming a doctor or a lawyer or anything else. It should instead be a temporary situation that helps her get to her next level. Throwing too much money her way for such an activity isn't help, it's slavery.
You say that I am selfish, well guess what, I believe we could easily say the same thing about you. Here comes a guy that tells things like they are, and you get pissed because your little profit is in jeopardy.
I could present you to 20-30 women and you could ask them what they think about Antifreeze and they would only have good things to say about him. I take care of them. I treat them well and am an happy returning customer, and they love it. After all it's not my fault if you as a Colombian guy can't treat a woman well and they need to rely on foreigners for sex as well as mariage.
Good luck finding your way towards decency (if it is ever a desire of yours)!
Antifreeze.
