I just realized that that webpage with the list of BAQ hotels is now down. Luckily, I saved the page in PDF form. For some reason, I can't post the same file in 2 threads. Oh well.
Look at anything between/around Carreras 48-58 and Calles 70-98. Generally the better/best areas to stay in.
Shouldn't be a problem finding hotels for reasonable prices during Carnaval off of this list. Just stay away from Barranquilla Plaza, Dann Carlton, El Prado, Hotel Royal, American Golf and Puerta del Sol as they are probably all booked up already and at ridiculously inflated prices. And I would call beforehand to reserve. Some will require a deposit to make a reservation.
I wouldn't suggest staying downtown in El Centro, but I did have a buddy who stayed at the Genova (#33) and it was a pretty decent hotel and cheap. Hot water, pool, restaurant and bar on premises, but no A/C in room, just a fan. Just have the hotel call your cabs for you, and don't wander around down there at night. I stayed at the American Golf.
NOTE: Remember these rates are about a year old. You will need to call for actual rates.

Are ypu still there bro?

would enjoy crossing paths. Please email me or PM . Thanks.
I might pass through town before Carnaval. Not sure yet. Working on a couple of trips abroad around that time. BAQ ain't a priority trip for me this time, even though it'll be a very cheap trip after airfare. Got one of my BAQ friends looking into places for me to stay. Might be a hotel, might be an apartment. I'll keep you posted by PM on what I decide.

I am wondering if any of you fellow mongers can recommend an assistant for me in Baranquilla. I am planning to go there in about 10 days to work on a photo/portrait project and need someone to give me a hand and help me round up subjects and watch my back--and equipment--while I am working in the street. I speak nearly fluent spanish and don't need an interpreter or guide, just a good, hard-working and ideally charming person. Perhaps a college student looking to pick up a few extra bucks or someone like that.
Of course, in addition to my serious artistic intentions, I intend to take full advantage of this project to meet lots of these hot, friendly non-pro Baranquilla girls you are all raving about! I have done similar things in Medellin with impressive results!
Please PM or post here if you have any ideas.

Indulge yourself into any dating site for the upcomming days. Write, write and write to BAQ chics. Sooner or (hope not) later, one will be charmed by you and you got yourself a private aid once in BAQ. One maybe you can bang at night the same time. Tell them you are willing to pay for the aid (or whatever else). Many will like the idea to help a gringo, as USA men seem to pay pretty good wages compared to Colombianos. And they all can use the money.
Thinking about going to Barranquilla in a month, wanted to find out if anyone has used International Introductions or any other agencies over there?
Also what are the "spots" again, I know of Lucitania from the forum but there has to some other ones out there. Need a full report guys.
Thanks
Just spent 2 days in BAQ and could not find any decent (8+)
girls available. Went to Lucitanias and found Andrea, thin blond,
great dancer and pretty face. But she had clients lined up,
did not feel like waiting so I got her number. There were about
12 girls there with a big crowd of guys. Don't know how many
girls were in the rooms. Wanting to hold off for an 8+, I left.
Went Juernes next, this place was worse (at least this night),
2 ugly girls with about 40 guys there. Left right away.
Next got a taxi, looking for SW, nothing good. Driver took me
to Victors, there were about 15 girls there, ranging from 3s to 6s.
Not willing to settle, went home alone.
I also tried calling Maria Paola listed in Austriaco report, but it
was a wrong number. (At least thats what she told me)
Spent time with a girl I met there in 2004. She took me to Henry's
Cafe near Parque Washinton. Man, this place had the most good
looking girls that I've seen in BAQ. These girls were stunning. Tried
coming back the following night w/o the girl, but it was closed.
I will definately visit this place the next time I'm there. Its an American
style bar.
Also, went to the party at the Prado Hotel. This place was also
packed with regular beautiful girls. In fact, I would say that they
were as (or better) pretty than Medellin girls. They seem to be less
made up than Medellin. Which lets you truly see their natural beauty
(less make-up). (My taste are lean model types).
Here are a few pics from the Prado Hotel party of some regular girls.
Lusitania has some hot girls.
150k for one hour in the room, or take out fee is 60k plus negotiated fee with the girl (around 200k). Beer is 10k, media botella is a better deal at 40k.
If she likes you, you can get a phone number and set up something with her the next day. Girls will ask 100k to 120k for a couple of hours. I got a couple of phone numbers in Lusitania and surprisingly both girls answered their phones the next day and were available, and this was right in the middle of Carnaval.
A nice quality motel is Hotel Casa Grande (aka Casa Blanca). Cra 53 no 59-50, tel 349 5093. I was quoted 18k per hour. Nice comfortable rooms although no hot water.
Juernes has an OK selection, though not even close to the presentation and girl quality you get in Lusitania. I paid 70k to the girl I took, plus 25k bar fine. For that money she stayed until the next morning. And in fact she came back the next night on her day off and visited, didn't ask any money. Just a nice bottle of red wine in my hotel room and dinner at a restaurant.
There is a place called Orquidea Norte or something like that, one block up cra 46 from Juernes. Beer is 2k, girl selection is not great but you might find something you like. Room is 10k, I negotiated 60k for one hour with the girl.
Some street action in the park at cra 46 with cll 70.
... to CTG the day I arrive.
i'm due in BAQ 16:30 - given delays and time for getting through customs should I push on to CTG or call it quits and stop for the night in BAQ.
Apparently its election this weekend so the bars & restaurants may be closed.
If so, where's mongerfriendly for one night?
I tend to like slutty SW's so that would be an interest - if not available a good Casa may do the trick.
Or should I go on regardless travel in the dark to CTG and take whats on offer there?
The marriage agency's are a big thing in Columbia. Because, very few american's travel to columbia, a market has been created. I heard that all the agency's are owned by Americans. I met a few of the chicks from an agency. Some were downright, sweet hearts. Others, were kinda young/dumb & just wanna have fun. You gotta understand, that going out to a nice dinner, visiting a nice hotel and being treated well - is very special for a latin woman. So, there are plenty of women here, who will spend time with you, just for a nice dinner.
If you do use an agency, make sure you monitor the web site to make sure that the photos actually change from time-to-time. Stay away from sites like latineuro, where they absolutely refused to remove a girl from the site (even if she's dead!). Checkout latin-wife.com Their personal introduction service was cool.

I am moving to BAQ in late July and was wondering if anyone will be in town around that time? Ideally someone who really knows the city or an expat who lives there.
My work will keep me busy Sunday afternoon - Friday afternoon. With the exception of holidays. So my free time will really be Friday night - Sunday morning. I figure this means I ought to be able to write a decent BAQ guide this time next year for the board (grin).
Any tips, suggestions, and advice would be appreciated, I've read the stuff already in this forum about BAQ (weather, websites). All really good and useful stuff. Just wondering about anything else you can think of, based on what you know about BAQ, if you were moving there for a year.
As a way of background, I am fairly new to the hobby. But a quick study as this past year I visited PTY (10 trips, about a week each), CCS (1 trip for a week), and ended up in Colombia (1 trip) were I spent three weeks in Cali and Medellin. In an effort to really learn the ropes I am taking a job in BAQ for 1 year to polish my skills in both spanish and to graduate from being a newbie monger. I am not rich, so money is an issue. My experiences have shown me while I always known and loved latinas. I have recently discovered that Colombians are the best latinas. IMHO) I have had two serious Colombian GF's (Cali, Bogota) and one Latin wife. Not looking for another wife, just a good Novia or two. My Spanish is very poor but improving to idiot tourist level. I am more of the GFE type as opposed to the LAL (love them and leave them) type. From what I understand BAQ is ideal for the GFE'er. I am therefore very interested in the non-pro scene. Or rather I should say with this kind of time on my hands, I ought to be able to figure it out for once.
Thanks ahead of time,

I chose to head to another country instead of Colombia during Carnaval. And several of my local friends in BAQ headed for other cities in Colombia during that time, to avoid the crowds.
I'd like to hear stories, successes and failures. Any problems finding hotels/apartments, monger stuff, willing chicas. Just want to hear your impressions of BAQ.
I stayed at the Royal Hotel. Its about a 2. 5-3 star hotel, depending on what room they give you. I felt a little cheated, because they did not give me the room I deserved. According to their website, they have a business center with Internet access. However, the Internet was constantly down. It was never available. I stayed at the hotel for 7 days, and the Internet did not work, even once. I had to walk down to the Prado for use their Internet. Whenever, I asked the Hotel staff about the Internet, they seemed to look puzzled as if they were saying 'duh. Of course there is no Internet silly! ' The basic room at the Royal, is equivalent to a motel 6. If you get a suite, it is much, much nicer - like a Holiday Inn. I am not sure who built to Royal Hotel. But nothing seems to work there. Never, had any problem with women at the Royal. Which you would expect from a lower-class hotel.
I took a trip to Cartagena. Cartagena is a beautiful city. It is also very, classy, clean and safe. Totally different from the dirty & tough streets of Barranquilla. Cartagena is very tourist friendly, with many shops, Internet Cafe's and banks. The hotels in Barranquilla, don't even know the basics of what a tourist needs. For instance: At the royal hotel, they cannot exchange money. They also don't have an ATM machine. There is no convenience store, for shopping for items you might have forgotten. The Prado doesn't even have an ATM machine. In terms of tourism, I guess one simple statement can sum things up. I was in Barranquilla for 7 days, and did not see come across a single American. Barranquilla, is not supported by tourism. There isn't much American influence there.
The women are friendly toward American's, because its a rare occasion when they meet one of us. In general, they are polite and friendly. Are they the most beautiful? nah. Brazil wins that competition. Easily. But, they are very family oriented. Columbia has different classes of people. The upper class women are a little snooty. You will have to work extra hard to get one. The poor folks, don't give a damn. But, I can never forget being at a disco and asking one of these high-class, superfine chica's to dance. She looked at me and waived her finger at me, like I was a dog. Maybe its a cultural thing. But I've never felt more humiliated. Waive your finger at me? Damn. A simple si o no, would due. Yep, there's definitely snooty people here, who think they are better than everyone else. But, getting a woman in Columbia is just like getting a woman in any Latin country. If your persistent and show them that you are sincere, you'll get them. I have rarely met a Latin woman, who would not go out with an American guy, who is sincere, honest and persistent. The only question is, how much time do you want to put in?
Every woman I met in Barranquilla, asked me one particular question "Why am I in Barranquilla, and who am I seeing"? The woman are not just jealous, they are competitive. I would meet a woman, and then her so called "Prima" (best friend) would hit on me.
I totally agree, that Columbia is for the experienced, fluent traveler. You can't go stumbling around out here, unless you want trouble. On the way back from Cartagena, we were stopped by a group of military police with M16 rifles. They required that we get out of the car, so they could search us and our car. We got through, without problem. But again, not exactly tourist friendly. Totally different experience, when compared to Rio & Dominican Republic. I've walked to streets in Dominican republic at night, never felt threatened.
As I stated, Barranquilla, isn't a tourist spot. Not many Americans go there. It is easy to understand why. Hot weather, ugly beaches, nothing to do in the day. I went to one of the Casa's. The women were quite average - at best. Furthermore, it was overcrowded with locals.
With all that said if I showed you a few pictures of the women I hooked up you would buy your tickets to Barranquilla today.
