Gidday Panamajack,
Thanks for the advice.
I think I'll be in Cali awhile by all the good reports that I read here.
I've got plenty of time, about 2 months this trip and also I can come back. I must return to Aussie for a couple of months to finish a few things and then I can go back to Cali if things turn out O.K.
I also would like to see Rio and S.P. in Brazil and B.A. in Argentina but only just a quick look.
I want to spend most of my time in Cali, improve my spanish, which is only a few words, enjoy there food but most of all find Miss Universe to care for my every need in life !!, just take it a day at a time. Maybe go to the coast.
Yes Panamar, I'm looking for a traslator and tour guide but I think Antifreeze maybe has someone for me, I'll check with him first.
Yes I will check out Chipichape Mall.
Accomidation, midrange to cheep hotel or find a Colomian family to live with. I think that would be the way to learn spanish, enjoy the food, culture ect. Any suggestions Panamar !
Muchas gracias Senor Panamajack. por favor if you have any other hints and time to write to me please do, I need all the advice I can get mate.
Regards,
aussie greg

[i]Hello aussie,
I totally agree with Antifreeze book a hotel before you set foot in cali at least for one night, believe me you don't want to be walking around Cali at night with your luggage, you become a target right away.
I've stayed at the intercontinental a few times nice hotel but over priced, if thats your cup of tea its a fine hotel. Also stayed at the Windsor plaza wonderful hotel very good service, a bit cheaper than the inter but a alot more intimate, only negative is that its in the north, not alot to do at night becomes desolate. Really it depends on what you want, how long are you going to be in Cali, how much do you want to spend.
About translator, most nice hotels provide translator at a substantially higher rate than a individual translator but at least you know your not going to be jerk around. I wish, I was in Cali for that time, a have a good friend thats a english professor real nice guy and at that time there on summer vacations so his got the time to earn a little money. Good luck Aussie and don't fall in love with the first beatiful girl that smiles at you, take your sweet time and enjoy.........oh also please take the time to go to Chipichape mall on the weekend you will never forget it, God I know I dind't. Hi Antifreeze
I am coming to visit Cali for about 4 days.
Would you recommend this place. It looks decent, homey, and inexpensive. How is the location?

Hello guys,
Guys a nice place to stay at, in Cali is this aparthotel called RAYDA, very nice place, I paid $150.00 usd. for two weeks, I've also stay there for 3 month straight. The great thing about this place is location, right across the street from the Intercontinental & the Dann. The very best and safest neighbourhood in Cali even at night. The rooms are all suites apartments, very nice rooms, they have housekeeping every day no problems whatsoever. I hope this helps a little, good luck.

here is a link to hotels/accomodations in cali and included you will find information on the RAYDA that panama jack mentions below

I've been to Cali so many times as a turist, and my best choice as for hotel stays Hotel Casa del Alférez (Avenida 9N 9-24 Juanambú, phone 661 8111).
They have a resonable price, have a Colombian touch to their room, and are even cheaper during the weekends. If you feel like something romantic, book one of their 3 suites (2 rooms with a Jacuzi). It will be lower than $100USD per night during the weekend.

Thanks Guys.
I appreciate the hotel tips.
Rayda sound good, but they do not seem to have a web site. I will call them and book a week. Is it $75 a week?
-
Hola Panamajack,
Yes I think Aparthotel Rayda is the way to go for me to Panama, do you have a address to contact them mate or a telephone number por favor.
Another question, do you think $25 US is a average price for a guide ? or am I paying to much.
Do you have the telephone number of your teacher friend in Cali !!
All the best, adios.
Aussie Greg.

I have 4 days.
What should I not do?

BUENAS Guys,
Alright this is the telephone number I got from a page online, APARTAHOTEL RAYDA tel. (572)892-4202 from the U.S. dial 011. also (572)892-4204.
Antifreeze I got a question for you, have you ever being to ESCOCIA bar? is near the DANN, I used to walk to that bar often late at night, once I brought 3 girls up to my apartahotel for a all nighter, great pussy some of the best I've ever had. If I recall the name of the 3 girls where yesenia maria, paola, and yolanda. I got the tel. number of yesenia maria but since I haven't been to Cali since about 1 year I don't know if she is still working.
Assuie about my friend I'm going to attempt to contact him before hand to see if he would be interested in translating for you. If so I'll email you his tel. number alright.
About the girls that I met in ESCOCIA, I used to see them saturday morning exercising at las tres cruces, I really coulnd't speak to them because I use to be with my girlfriend but it was fun seen this beauties in their tight exercise outfit walking up the hill made me sick, walking up that hill with a hard on, Only in Cali baby.......

What is the weekly or daily rate at APARTAHOTEL RAYDA tel. I called them, and the guy told me it was $75 a day. Must be my bad Spanish. Anyone knows the weekly rate?
Hey PanamaJack, do you live in panama?
-
panamajack,
I've never been to ESCOCIA. It sure seems interesting and I'll make sure to pay them a visit.
Aussie Greg,
I was not able to find any trusworthy translator for you. Sorry, you'll have to look through other channels. I'd say that when you'll arrive in Cali, just come north. There are plenty of English teaching companies. Have them propose someone to you. I'd stay away from the newspaper for that since some distorted colombian may want to prey on you...
-
Hello guys,
My MAN I think that there trying to stick you with what I like to call gringo pricing. This is what you do in this cases tell them when you call, that you have a good friend that recommended this place and that your friend paid $300,000 colombian pesos for a two week stay. tell them to quote you in colombian peso. If I'm not mistaken $300,000 colombian pesos equals to about $145.00 U.S. Dollars. They are really trying to bull shit you, typical colombian business practice. Move on if they don't cut that price by half per day.
About if I live in panama? I'm in the process of moving to Panama this summer, I'm in the states know. I travel to Panama often, I just bought an apartment in Panama city, looking foward to living in the tropics once again, been about 45min by flight from cali. I'm as much a panamanian as an american.
Also Aussie, are you going to try the marriage agencies? do you have any info. on a good agency in Cali?. If I'm not mistaken TLC worldwide is having there tour june 26 at the intercontinental. Has anybody attended this tour? sounds pretty nice, they send me there promotional video shot mostly in cali wow.......

Just booked a last minute trip to Cali for this memorial day weekend. Have not yet picked a place to stay but I would appreciate any recommendations on hotels in the safest part of town. If anyone will be in town and would like to get together, let me know. While I have been to Buenos Aires 3 times this year I don't know much about Colombia other than the rampant tourist warnings, but I'm willing to see for myself. While I have gone back and read the previous posts, any additional tips would be welcome. Thanks
