La Plascencia also has some great Spanish food.
Villa marina seafood in the zona Rio has grate sea food. Its a nice place to splurge one night and the service is excellent. Would cost you 2 to 3 times as much in the states.
There is also another Spanish place that serves great Paella, it's called La Taberna Espaņola, you can ask any taxi driver to take you there, usually they know it, if they don't, just tell them that is right in front of were the bull ring used to be, or right in front of the Big Boy Restaurant, he can't miss it.
Great tip, I love Paella and haven't come across any places in Tijuana serving. I've been to Spain a couple tiimes and couldn't get enough of it, 1yummmm.
There was a fire Saturday night near the Zona, I was on the street when I saw a bunch of fire trucks zoom by. I was done for the night so I left soon after the fire trucks arrived, didn't want to get caught up in any commotion. Anyone know if there was any damage to the area?

About a block from the arch, and noticed the door to what used to be a strip club standing open. When I looked inside the whole place was destroyed by fire. I can't remember the name of the club. But it used to have a big hoop hanging on the stage and the girls used to swing in it. The place always reminded me of the circus.
A while back someone posted about getting a Mexican cell number but I can't seem to find that post.
Anyways, I was wanting to get a mexican cell basically just to text a couple working girls in TJ while I'm in either SD or TJ (I have reasons for not using US cell to text). If I find my old phone I believe I can just change the sim card. Otherwise I just buy a cheap phone. So I'm wondering.
1. I know most plans are prepaid. I can get my phone charged at OXXO but can I buy a sim card in OXXO? If not where would I get one and cost?
2. After I get this cell, will I get reception back in SD? Prefer Tercel or Movistar? Would I be constantly getting roaming charges if I have the cell on and use up my credit quickly?
Thanks

Thanks
You can get a half way decent cell phone for between 900 and 2000 pesos. A SIM card costs 125 pesos. You can get the phone or the SIM card at any OXXO but you have to go to Telcel office (not an agency) with your passport to register your number. So you might as well buy the phone or SIM card there. As artistype said, there is a Telcel office at Plaza Del Rio. Definitely go with Telcel. When you prepay for your calls you can put in 30 pesos. 50 pesos. 100 pesos. 300 pesos or 500 pesos. When you purchase 300 pesos they give you 150 bonus or 450 total. When you purchase 500 pesos they give you 400 bonus or 900 pesos.

We started with a bread bowl of chowder. Two very good seafood dishes and drinks the total bill was around $35 dollars.
Yeah! That strip club went out of business several months ago, it never really did well, word on the street is that the owners torched the place to get the insurance money.

it was a friday afternoon and night full of excitement, joy, stupidity, and several mistakes (thus the stupidity).
parked at the duty free lot, and stocked up on tequila (first mistake) , and a couple of bottles of baileys for one of my favorites. stay at the ticuan and opened a good size tab, just in case. i was in a hurry to get to hk, first because i was hungry and wanted to hit my favorite taco stand, and second because i had a busy day and evening planned. so i jumped in a cab (second mistake) and this dude decided he would travel via revolution. damn if he didn't hit every damn stoplight! i could have gotten there faster if i walked.
once in hk, i spotted my favorite hk girl, and even though i ditched her for the "floater" a few weeks ago, she still had a big smile and kiss for me; i was in lala land for the old bastards. speedy stopped over for the usual "fill me up with tequila" tradition. i've learn that hk has a special mix and the tequila is watered down to where it is about 5% alcohol; it's no wonder i never got tanked. up in the room, the girl turned loose on my ass and reminded me how i should never ditch her in the future; her point was clear and understood!
i called sid up and told him i was pressed for time because i had my other favorite meeting me at the hotel at seven. so i had him and his wife meet me at the hotel bar (third mistake). on the way there, i could not pass up stopping in the bar at caesars to say hello, to my favorite bartender in tijuana, manuel (forth mistake). because as soon as he sees me, he automatically starts making me a real tasty margarita and grabs my favorite tequila and pours me a huge shot. life is getting a bit fuzzy and it is still early.
the ticuan bar was a bad call because unknown to me, the tijuana soccer team was playing locally, and it was blacked out on local tv, but not at the ticuan. usually you can hear crickets in the bar, but not on this friday. it was filled with muchachos, most of which were not drinking, but just enjoying the free telecast. when my girl walked in at seven, she was dressed in her bar dress and she was looking smoking fucking hot! for several minutes thereafter, the soccer game became not as important. she told me she got pulled into work early and did not have the time to change; no worries!
we weren't in the room for more than thirty before she pasted out from exhaustion. we were just talking and then she was out like a light. i let her sleep because i knew she needed the rest. between the home life and her work schedule; she was due to rest. as she slept, i could not help to feel bad about her situation. no, i don't feel bad enough to support her and her kids; but i still felt bad. i let her nap for awhile before play time, and then we ordered room service. i really like the food at the ticuan; never had a bad meal there.
we took a taxi back to the zona and she wanted me to join her at her bar, but i refused and headed back to hk. i walked in and on the front stage, the night tequila guy was trying to get volunteers to get on stage for free shots, but out of the thousand muchachos, no one would go. this put me into deep thought because there were two hot women on the stage as well. free tequila, check! two hot women to fondle, check! at that point i realized the moon and the stars aligned! i was on stage within seconds. i had a fine ass in each hand while have tequila being poured down my throat. i had one of those,"life doesn't get any better than this" moments!
i had one my trusted meseros find me a place to sit down and now it was time for the "who to meet" game. i was looking for the young sally field, but she was nowhere to be found. the hot ass, but lousy fuck, marlin was on the half horseshoe platform, and i just had to lick her ass crack! there was a hottie dancing near the rail, so i had johnny bring her over. her name is karen and she is from tijuana, really hot chica. she wanted 80 to go to the hotel, got her down to 700 pesos, but then realized i was already spent; sent her packing. then the tequila guy came by, took the top off of his bottle and handed it to me (fifth mistake). i decided "what the hell, have a bunch!"
i was headed back to the hotel, but i don't think i was walking in a straight line. there should be handicap rails on every sidewalk. but wait, la estrella is on my way to the hotel and why not stop in there? sixth and final mistake of the night! i stumbled in the place, literally, and things and life were unclear after that. i woke up in the morning with this huge arm wrapped around me. i was about to ask the buffalo to move over, but then i looked and she took up most of the bed. seriously, she was the size of a fucking honda, an 8 cylinder honda! my first thought,"what in the hell is wrong with me and when will i seek therapy?" my second thought,"why in the hell didn't the hotel stop me coming in with this monster truck size of a women, that could have broken their elevator?" those thoughts were short lived. my last thought,"what the hell, she is already here; why not tap it." we played for an hour and then i got her name and phone number for future encounters.
I went to Tijuana last Sunday to be with one of my favs. And took her to see a movie and dinner. Went to the Cinemark theater on Blvd. Sanchez Taboada on the same block as Restaurant T. G. I. F. Or Fridays.
We went to see John Carter in 3d. The cost was mx$75. 00 which come out to under $6. 00 USD per person. Not bad since in L. A. The average cost for a 3d film is around $15. 00usd. We also had a combo which consisted of 1 large popcorn, and 2 med. Coke's for mx$109. Next time 1 small popcorn and 2 small drinks will do.
What's good about this theater is it's only a half block from the Mexican version of Restaurant row. We walked to Cheripan, the Argentine steak house. This used to be my favorite restaurant but when we arrived, I didn't know anyone in there. I used to know all the waiters but either they had the day off or they changed the entire staff. The food was good but not great and the service was slower than anytime I visited before. Maybe it was just an off day for them.
Also on that block you have La Espandana, La diferencia (Mexican food ). Chan's (Chinese' ). Villa Saverio's (French ). Tai Ki Shi (Japanese) , and a whole bunch of other restaurants close by.
After dinner, a quick 5 minute taxi ride to Motel La Maison for some well earned playtime (LOL)
Anyway, hope this helps anyone who want's to do something outside the zona with their girl or not. I believe the price for the regular movies was mx$50 or mx $55. 00.
Last add. I change some money on the USA side and it was better than anything I saw in Tijuana. I got mx$12. 41 to the dollar. In Tijuana, the best I saw was mx $ 12. 35.
Next time try the VIP theaters from Cinepolis, they're on the Rio Tijuana Mall, great big seats, they sell alcohol, they have waiters, and they still cost less than your average ticket in the states.

You are correct about the VIP cinepolis. I went there a long time ago and you are correct about the seats, especially the ones in the rear. More like couches, great to make out with your date kind of seats. But because we were going to eat at one of those restaurants afterwards, it made more sense to go to the cinemark. They also have stadium seating but the seats in the rear are just normal seats.
