Juniour and Spidy,
I appreciate your insightful and detail reporting on Manaus. I’ll be visiting Manaus with two other mongers in late May for a few days. Two of us are Americans and the third is my buddy who is Brazilian residing in Sao Paulo. However this would be his trip to Manaus.
Buddy of mine called me that he has reserved rooms with Novotel Hotel and a rent car as well for transportation.
Do you know whether Novotel is close to where actions are in Manaus?
What kind of day trips is available from Manaus so we will have some flavor of Amazon jungle?
If I missed from your reports, what would be average fee for over night that these girls ask for if they were picked up from the clubs you have been?
Mongering activities in the evening will be based on your reports. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

OFF2Golf, as far as I can tell, my trusty Manaus map informs me that your hotel, the Novotel Manaus is located in the Zona Sul (South Zone) area and is somewhat south east towards the "Distrito Industrial Castelo Branco" area. Which does NOT look very close to the action. I would guess about a 15-20min cab ride to Centro and 45min-1hr to Ponta Negra.
Is this trip business or pleasure? If you can change your hotel I suggest something closer to most of the action in Centro, although Juniour mention Fellice which sounds interesting and is closer to Novotel.
Get a map, some are free at tourist infomation at the docks/pier. Head to the docks/pier for day trips. Pick or point to a destination and go. Trips are very very cheap. Manacapuru is very good and only about 2hrs trip by boat and bus. Paradiso de Angelo is a wonderful hide-away spot just 5min cab ride from Manacapuru city centre. This is assuming your the adventurous type. If not then deal with the expensive tour guides. There are lots to choose from. I chose to create my own fun.
I found the garotas to be GFE and very inexpensive. See posts/reports from Juniour and myself. For an overnight romp, probably in the range of R$70-120 and $150 for the best garotas. But remember, there are NOT that many mongers that come to Manaus, so please keep the prices, close to local prices.
Please report any new findings, updates and interesting tid-bits on Manaus, as I am thinking of venturing back in Nov/Dec.
Ciao

Spidy,
Thanks very much for your quick response. This trip is purely for pleasure - taste the jungle and some honey too.
I'll pass along the hotel information to buddy of mine so he may change a hotel reservation to one in near centro.
I'll make sure to keep the cost in line with what local folks pay and report my discovery.

LISTEN-UP ALL YOU BRASIL SOMETIMERS:
I'm going down there Sept. 5-ish through Nov. 20-ish to look into a few long-time ideas have about setting up in Rio -- buying property, looking into club-rental arrangements, etc.
I could use a few old-timers down there to rally with for a few days during the scouting.
Give me an email if these dates work for you.

Sorry for the delay is my reply, I have now come to the end of my five-city tour of northern Brazil and was sadly making my way home.
Just to add on to my earlier post and answer your questions.
Fishing
On your question about fishing, I have just seen in the Ícaro Varig’s in-flight magazine, April 2003, an article all about Fishing in the Amazon, information:itapara.com peacockbassfishing.com tel (11) 5091-7000 or 0300-788-7000
Tours:
As I have said in my post avoid the Ariaú Amazon Towers tours its very expensive for what it is, if you are planning the day trip. Two other people I had since met, have said the same thing, however, if you get an overnight stay at a good price then consider it but they quote prices in U$ and as I stated we were first quoted $400 each then down to U$200 each then U$200 for the room. The day trip consists of two and half hour trip up river then two to three hours there before a quick lunch before departing to come back.
One tour I can recommend is the Amazon Explorers, tel: (Matriz) 633-3319 Fax: 234-5753 e-mail: Info@amazonexlorers.com.br
Loja (shop/store) Novotel – tel: 613-1210 fax: 613-1221
e-mail: amazonexplorersnovotel.com.br.
The price was only R$79 (U$23) and its feel like a real tour with proper English speaking guide and filling lunch thrown in. You have the opportunity to buy souvenirs on the tour but be warned they don’t take credit cards, bring cash.
On being near the centre of the action if you are renting a car Manaus is not that big, so estimate a maximum of 30 minutes journey time, during peak time, anywhere in town. The prices up here are cheap, so overnighters you should be looking at around R$100 (U$30), its not like most garotas are rushing off to look for another client after you so they are most likely to stay the night. However, if you have some time to invest up here (I did not) with dinner, shopping & sightseeing (most locals never go on the tours) and they like you should soon be able to get a GFE. Several girls I spoke to working in the malls I said that if I had time I would have liked to have dinner with them; so that can tell me about Manaus, all readily agreed.
The other thing is that for people of Manaus its very difficult to leave, there are only two options flying or by river (both expensive) because there are no roads out of the Amazon connecting to other cities like in other parts of Brazil, so no hopping on the bus. Naturally, any guys from out of town instantly look attractive. Plus, all the girls I met told me Manaus guys are not romantic or affectionate; but to be fair in every city I have ever visited in my life women always say this, that grass looks greener on the other side. If I had a week there rather than three days I would have met heaps of women. But I do have Cristiani, who regularly e-mails me and is very keen to meet up again, here or there.

Juniour,
Thanks for the information which will be very handy for me when I get down to Manaus. I'll report back to you with my experiences. Thanks again.

Thanks for the info, Juniour. I found some more info on fishing on the net. I am likely on my way to Manaus sometime in October. Probably land in Sao Paulo and visit four other cities with Brazil pass.
Anybody wants to hook with an old fella for some mongering and fishing!

Friend of mine and I spent four days in Manaus from May 24 to May 27.
Hired a taxi for four days at all-inclusive rate of R$200.00 plus one full tank of gas (R$60.00). We thought it would be good idea to use a taxi driver as our guide to Manaus for day tour and evening fun. It worked out great as the driver also enjoyed staying out with us for seeking fun throughout the night.
As previously posted on this board, I quickly found that Manaus offers limited opportunities for evening action. Quality and quantity of ladies were somewhat inferior to those of Rio and Sao Paulo. However I was happy to see their availability considering size and location of the city in Brazil.
We visited two dance places - Club do Forro on Sunday and Caracao Blue meaning Blue Heart on Tuesday. Both outdoor dance clubs offer same – live band and bunch of locals dancing their night away. Entrance fee was R$5.00 and drinks (beer or soft) are R$2.00. I could not believe there is a dance club with live music where you can get in less than US$2.00. Music was surprisingly reasonable. According to our taxi driver (Orlando), local folks in Manaus consider Caracao Blue is the best outdoor dance club. We did not get girls from neither clubs. Patrons of the clubs appeared non-pro’s and did not want to spend energy to pickup one by going through hand motions and body language fighting loud music.
We also visited Ponte Negro area on Sunday – blue bar. Not much actions were there because it could be too late for action. It was about 2:00 a.m. Then we moved to a night club called “Hemurrus” (written as it sounds). When we got there, it was about 3:00 a.m. Orlando (taxi driver) picked up two girls leaving the club. He knew them and we took both to hotel.
Novotel has little issue with garotas. Novotel registered garotas and charged R$31.00 fee. The garota (Adria) has 7/10 body, 8/10 face and 10/10 attitude, but sex was kinda so so. I was tired anyway. She stayed until 9:00 a.m. and I had to kick her out for our day trip to jungle. Drove about two hours north and went on one day jungle expedition. Walking up and down the jungle through water falls and caverns with chorus of birds and monkeys. Had great time and recommend it everyone.
On Monday evening, we checked out Caracao Blue. We moved on to a night club “Kilds”. Even though the club was open but not many men were there so the club was closing when we got there. Ladies exiting the club appeared decent. One quoted R$150.00 and we passed her. Taxi driver said there is another club called “Kiss” which is known to locals as decent club. We did not go as we had to wake up early next morning for boat trip so we wrapped up the night without any action. We were tired because of the jungle expedition all day.
On Tuesday, we got on the boat for almost all day trip – boat trip to where two rivers converge plus small boat trip through the jungle after lunch. It was great trip for city boys like us. When we got back to hotel, we called in full service massage at R$80.00 before dinner – great way to finish the day and start the evening. A guy at hotel front desk has all connections. R$5.00 tip did trick very well.
After dinner, we went to the club Hemurrus. R$3.00 for entrance and the place was strip club with one runway and several pool tables. Again, everything is so inexpensive – R$2.00 beer. Bought a strip dance for R$10.00. Taxi driver’s hands were in just about every place of the dancer’s body. It last at least 10 minutes or so. Taxi driver picked one girl for me at price of R$70 for the night. She stayed until next morning around 11:00 a.m. Great attitude and good action. Where can you get these kind of lusty fun at this price?
In the afternoon of Wednesday, We headed back to Sao Paulo for having more fun. Life is good!
In summary, we had great time day and night. I have no clue about locations of these places as we were driven by taxi. Renting taxi worked out great and was very convenient for us. Taxi driver worked really hard for us so we gave him extra tip in addition to agreed price of R$200.00.
We tried to keep the garota price to where it belongs at range of between R$50 and R$80, so our comrades visiting Manaus in future would not be penalized by inflated prices.
Much thanks to Juniour and Spidy for Manaus information.

Off2Golf, I enjoyed your report. Glad to see you had a great time overall. The cab idea was probably the best way to go with a limited amount of time, since things can be very hard to find in Manaus. It is good to know you also found the wowen to have a good sexy attitude and enthusiastic good nature.
Curious to know whether or not you would do Manaus again? If not, what would be your reasoning?
Thanks again for the report and your insight! Ciao!

Me too with the same questions as below. I'm going to Brasil in Sept. and was going to prioritize Manaus. No?

Spidy and Jwadd,
I absolutely would go back to Manaus. I enjoyed very much to walk around in the jungle and explore the rivers. I would love to go further into the jungle to spend a few days to experience true rain forest. Even though night scenes for mongering are much less developed in Manaus, it was sufficient for me to enjoy my evenings and nights in balance with enjoying the nature during day. Ladies whom I encountered in Manaus appeared less sophisticate and glamorous comparing to those in Rio or Sao Paulo, but their more countryside attitude and less business-oriented (hardcore to sell sex) are good enough trade-off’s.
Jwadd, don’t expect anything or anything near like Café Photo in Manaus. If you do, you will be greatly disappointed. As long as you are flexible to adapt to local scene and mingle with locals, you will enjoy the city. And, the pricing is better than right. I also hope to have an opportunity to have a drink or so with you when you down to Brazil in September. I'm sure I'll be there at least once in 4th quarter.
Only drawback I truly felt was the location of Manaus. Adding another segment of the flight (waiting and 4 hour airtime) is not particularly fun after overnight flight from US. But you have to pay dues if you want to have some fun, right?
Enjoy your life when you can! This is my new motto (ha ha ha)

Excellent philosophy. Actually, my favorite city in Brasil (last time I was down there) was Recife -- for the same reasons Manaus sounds good: cheap, less glamorous, country fare, etc.
As for that drink -- make mine a double!
'Til then,

If your looking for a city thats a complete dump then you found the right place: Manaus. Lousy transportation worse dining and a poor choice of women. If you must make it to the Amazon, take plenty of insect repellent. I stayed at a tree house hotel (5 star)and would have paid them to ship me out the same day. The only thing biting where the mosquitos and the ants. Even without light the little creatures seem to find you.
Traveling to Manaus to get laid : you have to be crazy. Could be the worst selection of women I have ever seen. Could be the biggest waste of money and flying time I ever pissed away.
A differing opinion
Starfe
You think they will ask me to to a travel brochure for the city after this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
