Hello everyone,
I've been following this thread religiously for the past few weeks ever since I had a work trip to Bangkok come up on my itinerary. But reading this thread has made me think about cancelling the trip all together especially with how the situation in Bangkok is. Seems like the nightlife there is dead? Is this correct? A lot of the massage parlors and soapy massage places and gogo bars also? Do you guys think the situation might improve by the middle of January? Would a trip to Bangkok around that time be worth it? And which hotel would you guys recommend the Sheraton grande in sukhvimit or the JW Marriot by Nana plaza. Your help would be greatly appreciated. And if someone is down for a beer when I'm there I'll gladly pay for it. See.
No one can say what the situation will be like in January. Bars are supposed to be allowed to open by Jan 16th but who knows for sure.
As for hotel, I recommend JW as SG is a bit dated though the location between Nana and Asok is a bit better.

More howling at the moon
Take for example BKK or Pattaya: 3 thousand for an average looking Go Go girl, plus the barfine (700 to 1500 bht), plus drinks, and sometimes iffy sex: this is not a bargain IMHO.
That is why many of us did the majority of our punting at the PSE oilies like Tulip, Snow White, Mango, etc.

SL.
Absolutely. Especially from the mid-00's till a few years ago when quality started to nosedive. I discovered the oilies about 06 or 07 after Thermae became the layer of the Asian punter. And some of my best P4 P experiences in those places. But I must say the online scene in Bangkok has reinvigorated and excited me in just about the same way the oilies did 15 years ago. And overall the girls are prettier. Much prettier.
Truthfully, Covid has been pretty awesome for the hobby here in Bangkok. Great quality girls, excellent prices, and no tourists. I'll be sad to see that end.

Prices in thailand
I can't help but chuckle when reading all the arguments about what prices should be and what should one say in X and Y situation.
If the girls want to charge 3 K, let them, it's their decision. Punters have the power to counter or walk away. The decision is ultimately ours.
There will always be some stupid tourist ready to overpay, be it a taxi or a girl, it's like that in many third world countries, they count on tourists comparing prices with what they usually pay back home.
I do not believe we can change how business is done, but why try to shoot the guy who tries? Do whatever feels right for YOU and let others pay whatever they feel they can afford.
We don't all have the same disposable income when it comes to P4 P, some also have to be careful about OPSEC and can't be seen in some public places.
Funny thing is, a girl I was chatting with on Tinder, who turned out to be a prostitute and asking for 5 K for ST, contacted me because she needed money for rent and things to pay. Offering 1 K ST if I would see her on that same day.
I guess the girls are the same as us, they would like to get a high price, but sometime have to accept lower because life catches up to them.
Do whatever you feel is right for your budget, stop worrying about everyone else or trying to "teach" people how they should behave.
Tourists are back on the lower sukhumvit, many places are bustling. Girls of the night are in attendance. TukTuks and dodgy taxis are on the prowl. Bangkok starts to get back in shape, it's good to see.
I have a camera and all that mind numbing shit is fodder. Everywhere in the country. Its a stoners paradise. Wow, look at that, dude! Click click.
At age 69, firm tight cute unwrinkled 18-21 year olds are a bonus to the mind numbing dumb, crazy and weird shit. My motto: smile, agree, be happy and jai dee, its only $X and if you're in Thailand, say wow dude I'm lucky, look what my wrinkly old ass is banging!
That is how it is done in BKK!
Whoa. Feels sad when someone is leaving.
Have spent a couple of years vacationing in east Asia now, always good to broaden my horizons a bit, especially since I like to mix in non hobby activities as well. I hear Rio and SP are quite the destinations, from other Thailand experts as well. Sounds like the P4 P scene is not quite as commercialized as Thailand, and the girls and service are something else. Colombia is also on the table but since I've got zero Spanish skills I'd wager Rio and SP are probably easier to navigate.
but since I've got zero Spanish skills I'd wager Rio and SP are probably easier to navigate.
Yes, they don't speak Spanish there so you will be OK. However, there aren't many that speak English either so learn a little Portuguese and make sure that you have some translation tools.
Yes, yes, I am sure there is an exception or two somewhere down some dark street. But the vast majority of Thai P4P girls you and I would ever encounter are not now nor ever have been so poor that they will truly go without food, clothes, shelter, a smartphone and plenty of internet access for more than half a day unless they accept whatever act for whatever amount of baht from any customer who comes along.
If they don't get things pretty close to the way they want it and at the price they want it, they will head back to their province. It will bother them momentarily in the way a game player is bothered by losing this set. But it never ever means they or their family will go without the necessities of life and a few luxuries, parties and good times as well.
This has been the theme with every girl I've seen on this latest trip, many of them mentioned that they've either switched to some other line of work since the pandemic, with stints online catering to wealthy Thai clientele whenever they need cash. Some of them have said they prefer the new norm and don't plan on returning to the bars or soapies. I'm sure the bars and soapies will fill with new talent, but I'm less sure the quality to price ratio will improve or even remain the same.

Cheers.

February should be a good time for me to pre-book flights, and hopefully good deals for good hotels on Sukhumvit continues till then!

Hey bros,
Update. I will have a booking with the Soi 7 beer bar girl who wanted 3,000 before. She is now online for 1500/1/60. If you do the online thing, you will know what that means. I guess things have a way of working out. Maybe, I showed her the light. She will be in a surprise to see me again. Wish me luck!
You must be new to Thailand. Logic is absent from basically all small Thai businesses. TIT (this is Thailand).
This is the most accurate quote about thailand for anyone asking questions about thailand. Its so weird from a western perspective about how small business in thailand (and SE in general) operate.
You must be new to Thailand. Logic is absent from basically all small Thai businesses. TIT (this is Thailand).
You are dreaming if you think nana area bars will suddenly lower their prices because of fiwfans. By that logic they could also raise their prices to that of Thai brothels / soapies which charge 3500-15000 for a 90 min session. You're comparing apples to oranges. Yes both are fruit, but they are quite different. And asking girls to lower their prices by half after months of not working is never going to fly, prices will not change but you can run into trouble. Why even go out to nana and ruin your night by doing this?
New? I've lived here over two decades and speak halfway decent Thai. And yes, bar girls lower their prices by half. Alcohol prices are fixed due to high rents, but you would be surprised what girls will take especially at this stage. And no, as long as you're polite and do everything with a smile you're not going to get into trouble.
Soapies? Very few if any will reopen. The land most are on is way too valuable at this point. Chuwit actually came out and said that soapies are a thing of the past in an article today and that online has taken its place. In addition they are not very discreet and cultural norms are changinf. It's no longer okay for groups of Thai co-workers to go out to a soapy together.
Basically this, I'm happy I found it sooner than later. Just cut the crap and goto the PSE.
Unfortunately, the PSE shops that are still open have the same girls that were working there 15 years ago and they weren't all that young 15 years ago.
