Gentlemen,
Those of you in the know; please help me understand the scene here. I see more information going back and forth on bars in the downtown area, particularly, Herradura and Intimo...more so now that BT bars. What's the deal...is it just coincidence among personal choice with those who post here or is there really something to it. Reason I ask is that me and my buddy who are long time patrons of BT have stopped going because it's just gotten to be to risky and on the verge of dangerous. So, we're looking for options or alternatives to BT...and here I see a lot of comments on the down town scene. Help me understand what these clubs are like; are all the girls who visit these estsablishments "working", or are some just regular chicks just hanging out looking for more normal realationships. I don't quite get the picture. In other words if I walk into one of these bars am I to assume that all the girls there players for cash exchange ("prostis")? Or do I need to be careful in that there is a mix or women and play a guessing game. The beauty of NLBT is that when you're there you know exactly what you are there for and what the girls are there for, so there is no trepidation in approching the women with any consequences of getting yourself in trouble for asking the wrong questions, like, "how much do you charge", or, "lets go to the room and have some fun". I would appreciate some insight.
I have made 3 trips to downtown NL in the past couple of months. I think there may be a few ladies who go mostly to dance for the typical dollar a dance and maybe some drinks, but most of them that are of interest are there for exchange of dollars for sex. They also make it obvious by eye contact and approaching you. It is also no problem to ask any of them and they will say they do not go to the hotel.
Hey Chuck91,
Thanks for the inside information. But it almost seems as if it's more trouble in dealing with all that preemptive stuff instead of just getting to the point of things. Just the same it's an option to BT. It would appear that the two settings have there own pros and cons, such as BT has some level of control for the girls being checked for STD (at least the more established locations), and at least those dseases that can easily be detected over those more insidious such as HIV, unless your using one of those newly developed rapid tests but which I am sure BT clinic is not using because they are just too costly to use on such a regular basis. So, you'r on your own risk with that one. I am thinking that the ladies who occasion the downtown exchange clubs don't really go through any STD screening. Secondly, at BT the action is in your hands, literally. In the downtown clubs it would appear that you have to staulk the hunt a bit more. One drawback to BT action is that it's too fast. 20-30 minutes. Unless you're a regular customer maybe 40 minutes for $20 room cost. Or you can always dish out extra cash and stay longer, which I hate to admit have done in the past. Which may also affect how much the senorita is willing to stay for the original quoted price. She may require an extra tip for the extra time. Here again, unless she's a regular of your's. But don't kid yourself, they're all there for one thing, and that's the money, so that won't last very long without some adjusted to the arrangements. It's really sad to see what has happened to BT; all the corruption has really taken a toll on the old zone of tolerance location.

Really made me resolve that I would not go to NLBT again unless it was in the van from the truck stop. At least the one time I went with Doc in his van there was no search and no hassel. The problem is going and returning on the vans schedule which leaves NLBT about midnight or so after arriving about 8 pm. The downtown ladies that are openingly working do have to have the same health certificate as those in NLBT. I know that because one lady I was with downtown had to leave for an hour on Friday afternoon to get her health inspection. Also that night there were many inspectors around the bars and I guess they were checking. That being said I do not know if the rules are as strictly inforced downtown as they are in NLBT as I have not seen the inspectors on other nights. In either place the girls are on a strict time schedule although dwontown there is an oppoartunity to establish some sort of relationship with them even if you speak only a little spanish. To me that makes it more satisfying than the quicky available in BT but you do have to work at it and treat the girls with respect. I do very much wish that NLBT could go back to the busy and fun place it was before the violence in NL and the total corruption of the police at NLBT. My dream is that someone will bus in girls from Monteray and open a bar in NLBT comparable to the current HK in Tijuana and that they will have enough power to make the police at the entrance not hassel anyone. I guess it does not necessarily need to be in BT.

Yes there are drink and dance girls, but damn, but I think we have covered that many times. There are also flat out liars, girls that promise the world just to keep the ficha beers coming, I witnessed just that tonight. I am telling you, the way to cut thru some BS is ask the girl if she goes, if she says no, she is dismissed, if she says yes, then say let's go, if she balks, she is a liar. The liars will have an excuse as to why they can't/won't go. Get her to comit, then if you want to drink some more with her do it.
I sat with a realtively inexperienced, guy tonight, he failed to exercise what I have preached, and I translated/negotiated for him, he got took, she baited both of us, promised him the world, only to dump him when he was ready to go. He got some redemption tho, we found an old reliable and he brought her back to his apartment.
If she says ok, then if you are ready, go, if you are not, then at least, you established she says she will go and is actually willing. These girls are pros, and can spot a newbie or a dumbass in a second. They get 20 pesos a ficha, and will milk that to make money, lying thru their teeth doing so. Try and negotiate drunk and you are really in for a lesson.
I live here, and am in the bars probably a whole lot more that I need to be. I know most of the girls, some flat out hate me, because I inform guys of their ways. Some love me as they know I will steer guys to them and the guy will know he is getting a girl that will generally provide good service. Everyone has different desires and tastes in women, I respect that. If I tell a gut to avoid a girl, and he don't listen, it's on him not me. Am I right 100% of the time? Hell no. Some girls I have given a thumbs up to are duds for some guys, some girls, that I say avoid, turn out to be just what another is looking for.

Yes they do, and health inspectors are out frequently. Girls without their sanitation papers are not allowed in the bars. I saw a girl that refused to leave the Montera, when ordered out by a health inspector, arrested by police, called in by those inspectors. The health checks are normally visual checks, but about once a month they draw blood.
Things have sure been very quite around the forum. Where is everyone? I guess there's nothing to report being that there's been all the violence throughtout Nuevo Laredo. I had to cancel my trip to Sabinas Hidalgo last week to see a "BT girlfriend" of mine because of all the damn cartel and military mess going on. Oh well, just thought I would rattle the cage a bit. OH, and by the way, Bbond, your're right about those women, aside from being professional prostitutes they are professional liars and not just in the club scene, they carry out their daily affairs and relationships filled with lies and manipulation. I know, been there done that. Gotten burned big time with it. But what the heck, as long as it's only money and material stuff you lose and not your dignity, heart or selfrespect. Life is for living and living is for learing is what I like to say.
Later guys.

Yes, been quiet and you should expect it to stay that way. I would hope that those who dare venture here would report some details, but ain't likely to happen.
The Montera is scheduled to re-open on Monday, I have a girl coming at 9pm Monday because she don't want me in there. And she ain't no bar girl, but has heard rumors as I have, from totally different sources, so it really makes me wonder if it will be safe or not to enter there.
I mean when you hear very similar stories from very different girls, then you had better pay attention when those stories match.
The Montera actually opened Sunday, July 9th. It was calm and cool in there. No idea as to what happen later, but the opening seemed well received. Stayed there till about 9 pm then moved over to the Herradura.
I have to cross the border on foot, and walk into Mexico at Nuevo Laredo in a few days. Does anyone know where I can pick up a visa?

Say what? Visa for what, exactly?

I was just gonna say the same thing. I'm from California and US citizens can freely travel throughout the Baja peninsula. I've also spent the odd weekend in NL and never experienced any problems. Are you going be getting on a bus to Monterrey or something? You would only need an FMT (Mexican Tourist Card) if you planned to travel into the interior of Mexico.

You can get a Mexican tourist card at their customs office just after entering from the pedestrian bridge. It will be on the right near where cars are inspected. (Tourist cards are only needed if visiting the interior, such as when going to Monterrey.)

I am going to be traveling to San Luis Potosi by bus from Nuevo Laredo.
Do you know the cost of the tourist card, and how many days it's good for?
