PhnomPenh is as dirty (utterly filthy - trash all over) as ever - there was some interesting talent down around the riverside for $5 to 10 or so. Try happy pizza (about street 184 on the river) for a pizza with a bit of a difference - the herbs are the thing - about $4 for a small. (same ownership as in SiemRiep and Snooky) Mikado and Cyrcee are still $15 (got a bunch of duds though - one "shy" about baby belly - kept light off - and another was essentially worthless - those at Mikado) Mikado seems to allow underwear now (was more fun without) Rain at 92F, cools down, rain stops then result is a virtual sauna at 90% humidity - not fun. Seems to rain 2X/day - thunderstorms.

The overland trip from Bangkok was about 14 hours total trip time (so much faster to fly, 1 hour and just 2X cost at about $80 for the return including airport fee on AirAsia) Costs 200B to Trat, 110 to border (stayed overnight in the KohKong little shithole) $2 to KK and $20 to PP. $5 room with big roaches. Got by with $25 for the Cambo visa at KK.

Walkabout didn't have any "cute" girls - just a buch of hardcores. They do a pat down at Heart of Darkness. Take ear plugs - it's LOUD!! Perhaps the best option for rooms is at Flamingo at $20, but there are others

You mentioned there was some talent around Riverside. Can you be a little more specific on the location. Were they opposite the California 2 hotel or around the FFC? What time of day were they there? Did they approach you?

Hmm. I was wondering what hotel has rooms with the most light and cost under $20. Got a new camcorder I wanna try out but the lighting in most rooms is pretty low. Wanna hear your thoughts.

You can't go wrong with the flamingo if you can get a room,I have heard that PP is pretty empty now so you should be right.The big luck is another that sounds OK,only a little further away and it has a pool.
Billabong starts at $35 with a pool and is only five minutes walk from flamingos but it is not really girl friendly although ANZAC owned.But it is very nice and quiet.
The best thing about flamingos is the location near the walkabout,chip lay,shanghai,heart,howie,soho2,mikado,le cyrcee,sophie,sharkeys and the riverfront.All within ten minutes walk.
Martini is a little off the beaten track from anywhere,about ten minutes on a moto.
A word of advice to those seeking women on the street whether the riverside,monument or wat phnom-don't bother,why would you with all the other options available?You are only asking for grief especially if you can't speak khmer.

Some girls along riverside speak minimal English. They say "hello" and you can go from there. I didn't go anywhere else. Of course, being able to speak minimal Thai does NO GOOD whatever.

Flamingo is right around the corner from Walkabout (1 block away)

About the most annoying thing about PP is that every motodriver thinks that you need to ride with them. I swear NOBODY walks a block in PP (except barangs) Seemed hotter there, though, than in Pattaya

As to the why bother with street girls - depends on what you like. Actually get a better "deal" and some are more GFE. The one I did didn't do BJ though

I am revisiting PP on 25th May, And I m interested in meeting some up Market girls. I remember reading in this forum that there was a hotel there catered for the up market sector.

Very sad news guys, the lovely Srey Lisa from Barbados just passed away very suddenly 8 days ago from dengue fever.

She was one of my regular and I just had spent a very nice afternoon 2 days before she died. She was a nice fine girl, I just wanted to pay her a little tribute her, she really deserves it. Another shattered life in Cambodia...

I have my doubts that she died from dengue fever.

Number one reason to come to Kambo is the fruit-slush. They make it perfect. Much better than the thais. Sweeter, fruitier and more sirupey. The Kambo version is so thick that the straw stands in it straight, while in the average thai it flips. And the cost is minimal, one dollar or less for a large cup. Where I come from they charge 5 bucks for a small cup. Certainly justifies the expense of travel. They call it "toek krolok" which equals "nahm panh" in thai.

You can buy it at any restaurant, at the markets but the best is at Sorya foodcourt. You can have mango, watermelon, banana, coconut and more...

I got this far in my thinking and decided it was time to move on. Early evening, darkness just set in but still plentiful of light from the shops so I opted for walking. Quietly sneaked away from the hordes of motos and left Sorya shopping centre in Phnom Penh.

The brothel I was looking for is actually a small hotel. However in daytime the gate is firmly locked, no sign of activity. Needless to say it is hotel only in name. Only when night comes they open the doors very slightly to reveal the pink/red lighting inside. Old papa was sitting by the door. I thought about a little joke and asked for a vacant room first.

-"Mien bontop tomne tey?"
Old papa seemed a bit surprised by farang approaching him and turned away muttering a slight "Ot!" (meaning: "No!")

I laughed at my own splendid joke, since it was obvious they don't sell rooms, and continued:

-"Mien si'rey sa'at tey?" ("Do you have pretty girls?")

A sudden glow and smile crossed his weather-beaten face (there are not many oldies in Kambo) and he keenly replied:

"Mien." ("Have".)

He led me inside where about 10 young viet girls sat by the wall. Four or five seemed doable. I had been there before and fucked for $4 but this time he wouldn't go lower than $5 a pop. Walking in the dark....

Decided to continue walking in the dark, reached the riverfront. I have walked before the dark streets of Jakarta, Bangkok, Surabaya, Manila without any troubles so far and wasn't too concerned. Only once got nibbed in Manila - in broad daylight. Phnom Penh is not the worst.

While sitting down for dinner, I was unfortunate enough to share close space with a strange looking couple. 100 year old farang Fuck-Object who looked totally ridiculous with overdone lipstick and lots of gold jewellery and a young Khmer man, who was obviously on her payroll in some way. They were not "friends" but rather employer/employee it seemed.

Their conversation centered about some other Khmer man, I gathered. From here on I will just abbreviate "Totally Ridiculous 100 Year Old Fuck-Object" to "TR100YFO" for simplicity.

TR100YFO says: "I want to give him all my heart..." Young Khmer man obediently listens.

TR100YFO continues: "He doesn't understand my feelings...." and doing all the heart-wrecking facial expressions at the same time.

I had to try hard not to vomit. So did the young Khmer man on the payroll, as I read his face. I had an idea: I noticed a slice of pizza thrown in the corner with big red ants crawling on it. When leaving for the toilet, managed to kick it under TR100YFO's chair so that it got positioned right at the chair leg. The ants left the pizza and started crawling up for better food.

"Oh, ouch, arrgh. Itch! Oh the little bastards are biting...." I expected to follow soon, however I did not wait that long. Quickly paid and headed out for Circee bar. Still on foot. There I was in for a big surprise. But that's the next story....

I bring my own light. For a variety of reasons I'm tired of the crappy light in Asian hotels including many high-end ones. I carry a couple of 220V 60W bulbs and a couple of cheap clamp-on light bulb fixtures. The same one's the night markets in Thailand and Cambodia use. The total weight is only a few ounces and total cost is a few dollars for a great quality improvement. I change out the 25W bulbs in the rooms with the 60s and maybe use a clamp-on or two.

BTW there's nothing better than natural sunlight coming through the windows for camcorders.

The small cost of 2 bulbs would most definitely be worth the improved lighting for more detail and hopefully better color. I was thinking that I may have to go back to Paris hotel which SAD mentions often which I am only so-so on. I have an extreme sense of smell and the Paris bleaches their sheets with some very very strong chemicals. Can't sleep face down without feeling queasy although the view is great and lighting good during the day with such good window views. Hmm LOL problem solved for a dollar. Muchos Gracias. Just thought I would provide an update on ATMs in Phnom Penh, which for me are the only source of money when I visit.

Sorya Centre is known to all Moto Dup drivers and so is an easy place to get to. Until recently the ATMs on the ground and first floors were the only facilities available and so were only available during 'opening hours'. There is now an ATM outside the market and so is available 24hrs.

I have just returned to the UK and the smallest dollar/sterling exchange rate I received was 1.975 (free of all fees) and the highest was 1.993. I am convinced that this is the best option for me.

I am told that there will soon be an ATM in the lobby of the Flamingo Hotel which will make life even more convenient for those of us in the Walkabout area of the city.
