Miscellaneous information
Flew out on Jetblue from JFK on a 12:30am flight from the new jetblue terminal. One Duty Free shop was open, but was closing around 11:30pm. The bars, restaurants and just about every store in the new terminal was closed at that hour. Flight left on time, smooth flight. I knew a chica who worked at the airport in Santo Domingo and she met me at the door of the plane. I met another guy from New York on the plane, I believe he was half dominican, nice guy, he had people meet him at the exit of the plane and he was through customs and out of the airport in less than 10 minutes. I rented a car from Alamo, the rent a car counters in the airport where empty, so I went to the building near the parking lot, where the paperwork for the rental cart was completed (Supposedly Alamo is open 24/7 at the airport in Santo Domingo, Alamo is not open 24/7 at the airport in Puerto Plata). Booked online, used a coupon from BJ's (large wharehouse type store here, similar to costco, sams club) which saved me about 50 dollars on the rental. Before I went to the Dominican Republic I ordered 4 scandisk mp3 players from Buy.com. They have 1gb scandisk mp3 players refurbished (with the slot for a 2gb micro sd card, I believe this mp3 player also shows photos and video) for around 13 dollars each. I gave one to the guy at the Alamo counter and I got a bigger car, free upgrade on the car to a nissan tiida, nice car.
SDQ airport was dark when we landed, not hot. I left the airport maybe around 6am, in the rental car and drove to Juan Dolio. Check in time for the hotel palacio was around two pm. Drove to the public beach in Juan Dolio and looked for a place to eat, nothing open near the public beach at 6:30am. There was a pickup truck parked in the parking area, that had food and drinks in the back. Then another car pulled up with a short dominican guy. I chatted with the short Dominican guy, he was working on an advertisement for Claro. Soon after, two vans pulled up, that had female models for the photo shoot for the advertisement. The short guy gave me free coffee from the pickup truck (the pickup truck was like a catering truck for the photo shoot). They eventually drove away to do the photo shoot in another location. I had been in Juan Dolio in June 2008, so I knew a few places there. I knew one restaurant that has a small grocery store attached to it near the Barcelo Capella, has free wifi. I went to this restaurant and ordered breakfast. Same cute waitress who I had seen in June 2008. Skinny, light colored hair, cute face. I drove over to the small souvenir shop across the street from the barcelo capella, I changed money there and bought a claro card. I called a chica I knew in San Pedro de Marcoris and she took a guagua and a motoconcho to meet me at the restaurant near the capella.
We eventually left Juan Dolio around 11:00 am and drove to Santo Domingo and Hotel Palacio. Room was not ready so we sat up by the pool on the 4th floor to wait. It was my first time meeting this chica in person and she was friendly, I laid beside her on a lounge chair near the pool, while waiting for the room. Hotel Palacio has an indoor parking garage that can hold maybe 5 cars. Large inside courtyard with small palm trees and other plants. Old style oil paintings on the walls (some portrait type oil paintings). Hotel Palacio has two elevators. Plastic Key cards for the rooms, you just put the key card near the the door lock and the lock opens, no sliding the card into anything. Old brickwork, high ceilings, arches above most doors, one room had a really high ceiling with 6 x 6 beams in the ceilings. One room I used had a small balcony. I saw another room there, which had a large private balcony. From the wall near the pool, the view is into an apartment across the street on Duarte. Pool is on the 4th floor, clean, with nice lounge chairs. Not many people use the pool. Digital safe in the room, you set your own code. Refrigerator in the room. My first room there, I had a wired internet connection, the room had a long Ethernet cable coming out of the wall between the beds. The hotel also has wifi, but in my second room I was unable to get a connection. 45 year old swiss or german guy runs the place. I left my electronics out on the bed and never had a problem. The guard at night can call a taxi for you, usually numerous taxis waiting on duarte, just down the block from the hotel. They lock the gates to the front door late at night, but the security guy is always there carrying a pistol. The workers at hotel palacio are pleasant. The first two days I was at this hotel, I brought around 5 chicas to the room. The chicas have to have cedulas to enter the hotel. I brought one girl who was with two friends and the other chicas were alone.
Zona Colonial at night is kind of empty, not many people walking around. I walked over to Bar Atarazana two nights from the Palacio, it is about a ten minute walk, streets were practically deserted. I learned from the taxi drivers, best way to return to the Palacio is to take the malecon and enter zona colonial from the malecon. There is a Codetel call center on el conde around the corner from the palacio. This Codetel office was unable to activate a new samsung phone I had and they said I could go to the main codetel office to activate the phone. This codetel office also sold Claro cards, but on a few occasions they did not have cards or they only had 100 peso cards.
I eventually got into my room in Hotel Palacio and my wingman took a long walk, and left me alone with the chica. Good sex, busted my nut. Gave her taxi fare and bus fare and she went home to san pedro de marcoris.
As I usually do before a trip to Dom Rep, I visited Marshalls/TJ Maxx, discount stores, and bought name brand cheap perfumes, 10-15 dollars per perfume. I also bought two t-shirts, one a derek jeter yankee t shirt for 5 dollars (first sports shirt I have ever owned, I have seen numerous Dominicans with yankee caps, other dominicans like the red sox). One day at the palacio I invited a chica to the pool, the chica and her friend could not get into the hotel palacio, no cedula, so i offered to take them to Boca Chica, I put on the jeter t-shirt and shorts, for the beach, but it was late and when we were going to get my car, we changed our minds. So I walked with the chicas on el conde. The chicas went into various stores and I stayed outside. One young male hustler came up to me, trying to talk with me. I was not in the mood. The young hustler kept trying to chat with me, he said "You are German, Jet-er is a German name" (Jeter was printed on the back of my t shirt with his number and the yankee logo was on the front). I said to myself what a moron, this young hustler doesn't know baseball.
Geeks.com, has several refurbished and new digital cameras for 50 dollars and less. I bought two 8 megapixel samsung digital cameras for around 50 dollars each (there are coupons for geeks.com where you can save 10%), which I gave to my two favorite gf chicas. I am sure they will take some good pics (naked hahahah) and send them to me.

American in Santo Domingo
I'll be in SD for a few days. Thinking of moving to SD if I can find a safe cheap apartment. Would love to hook up with a SD veteran for drinks, fun and to learn about the island. I think my biggest challenge will be that I don't speak spanish at all. Yet anyway. If anyone wants to hang let me know. Cheers
