Leo
You're tearing me up inside. I can picture you and B. player prowling Chippechappe and unicenter every afternoon while the rest of us are stuck here getting ready for another ho hum friday afternoon happy hour. Enjoy the rest of your stay. While the puente may have gotten you off to a slow start it sound like you guys have kicked it into overdrive. Look forward to the reports.

antifreeze.
I think you can get a Cali-Caracas flight for about $300US.
Come and visit me :)

Antifreeze,
I know that since you are the sole gringo living in Cali, most of us feel comfortable asking you for some assistance. I gone back and read every post on this "Cali" thread because I don't want to ask something that has already been asked.
Anyway, I was in Bogota in April and I will be returning Aug 2nd for a week. The weather had been rainy and cooler, especially in the evening, and I expect the same for this trip.
After reading your posts and the others from all the other great posters on this thread, I WILL TAKE A WEEK OF VACATION AND COME TO "HEAVEN" FOR THE WEEK. My question, How is the weather there? Does it rain every day like Bogota? What types of clothes are acceptable there? In Bogota, normal "gringo wear," (jeans and tennis shoes) is out of the ordinary and draws attention. Dark "Dockers" and non-athletic shoes are more the style there. How about in Cali? Tropical wear is ok? Light colored Dockers and a golf shirt ok or is this out of the norm also?
I have lived in Mexico the last 3 1/2 years, and until April, (my first trip to Colombia), I loved it. I married a Mexican woman a couple of years ago, and if I had been to Colombia before my trip, I wouldn't have gotten married.
I feel the same as Antifreeze; my wife can give me everything I need except for variety. ONCE a monger, ALWAYS a monger. Old habits are very hard to break. Especially when you are around HOT Latinas!!!
For the week in Colombia, I never got so many looks from hot women. ALMOST NEVER IN THE US!
Anyway, If you or any of the other posters have a chance to advise me on the styles, I would be in grateful.
Thanks,
Dollar Bill$

Catire: Why would antifreeze spend 300 pesos, let alone $300 US Dollars, to go chase skirt in Caracas when he lives in paradise?
You have all this free time on your hands now so the question to be asked is "Why don't you go visit him in Cali?"

I did a two week trip to Cali in Jun/Jul.
Since the primary purpose of this site is to report on pay-4-play action around the world, I don't have a huge write-up to offer... pay-4-play is not so great (compared to Brasil and Argentina, maybe Thailand or Czech) IMHO.
On the otherhand, the non-pro action is OUT OF THIS WORLD, SPECTACULAR! So, who is Cali for? Most important, it's not for the hobbiest that no longer plays the amateur game, the hobbiest that is strictly a pay-4-pay player. It is for the dude that likes both amateur and pay-4-play, and is in it for more than sex, as described below.
Is Cali for You? - I offer the following:
(1)
You are let's say younger (say 20s-40s), not too ugly (although that may not matter), relatively in shape (ie. not obese)... and who knows, even if you're not these, maybe you'll still love Cali and meet many non-pros.
(2)
You hobby not only for the sex, but also for the GFE, or the companionship (not meaning GFE in the bedroom, but GFE as a destination); you like to make a date (as in the sense of time spent with a girl, courtship, etc.), or I mean outside activities (dinner, movie, country club, etc.) of your time with a girl instead of only sex; ... then Cali may be for you.
(3)
You have some skills. I mean, you don't _only_ hobby because you dislike, or you're not good at, meeting non-pros and scoring with non-pros. On your int'l travel you like (or would like) to blend pro and non-pro action. If you still play the game (non-pro) in the U.S., but don't get quite the results you want (who doesn't want more??), and wouldn't mind playing the chase game if it was so EASY, then Cali is for you!
Guys, I really don't mean to offend anyone that doesn't fit these descriptions! I'm trying to provide detail for those that are going or contemplating a trip to Cali.
To be honest, my friends and I saw many dudes that didn't fit these descriptions, and they still loved Cali for the non-pros. I mean, there were gringos that were in their 60s, or were young but not in great physical shape, or were complete dorks in the personality area, and they all were loving Cali (granted many had paid to have introductions made through numerous services).
In Cali, the game is reversed. If you fit the description above, you take on the role of the Swedish supermodel at a college frat party! Girls stare you down, even when they are sitting with a man. You can approach any (well, just about any) women/girl and get a "yes":
"Would you like to meet sometime?"
"YES"
"May I have your number?"
"YES"
...never fake digits, they don't know that one!
...ringgg... "Want to meet me tonight?"
"YES"
Why can't the rest of the world, or the U.S. be this way?
Some girls will give it up the first date, some won't. Some are loooking for material things or golddigging (or blue-digging, as in the passport color!), some are not. This can be used to your advantage, just like they would use their assets to their advantage (I'm not saying use or mistreat girls!).
OK, details to follow in separately written posts.

strip clubs / chica clubs (take out)
flores frescas:
i was so under-amazed at flores frescas. i mean, it was like i couldn't get laid!... like a was black-listed. man, do the girls have attitudes in there. here's my story:
one of our first nights of the trip, say around jun/28, and it's me, b.player, and his friend n... we also have a local caleņo cabbie who is fluent in both languages. we know that the going rate is (all prices pesos) 80k for locals, maybe 120 if you get stuck paying full gringo... usualy starting price is 150k, if not us$100 (idiot gringo price)... all these are for an hour.
we all get quoted peso 150k, per hour. we each ask for the 120k - no movement from the girls. we ask for multiple hours, girls stick to 150k per, all the way up to over 1,000k for tdn!!
we had picked out three of the hottest, and even went as far to keep up the conversation right to the cabs. i mean, we watched the three hotest girls get in a taxi to leave, vs. coming with any of us.... and none of us are over 40 years and none are what i'd consider not in atheletic condition. finally, i offered my favorite 150k pesos but for something more than 1 hr (i was that ambiguous about the time requirement) and she left.
i figure the girls had other men that they had planned to meet, but we spent much time with them and they didn't appear to have spoken with that many others.
later in the trip, another friend d, did manage to have nicole (shorter, super cute face, light brown hair, nice body) meet at the apartment - 150k and she bailed as soon as he blew (40-50 minutes).
ok, our favorite girls...
evy or eveylen - smoking hot shorter light haired brunette, about 21, incredible real tits that were large for her body size. claims one child, but i couldn't tell. our friend rigo called her 'the *****', and explained a story about his son's experience with her. b.player is still working to meet her, so maybe i'll be able to update later.
johanna - super cute tiny girl, 18 yr-old, claims one child but you can't tell. only problem with this little spinner is she won't shave her legs (i asked to shave her, and she claimed some alegery) - and sorry, her legs were hairier than mine, and i couldn't do that... i'm not talking common carioca tanned fuzz here, i'm talking forest.
"21" - can't remember this girl's name, but she seemed to always wear some jeans that had a "21" on one thigh.
"butterfly" - again, can't remember her name, but she has the butterfly tatoo right on the small of her back above her ass. i tried to take her home, and offered her the 150k for 1 hr. she said she'd be at my apartament, but she no-showed.
ok, i listed all these girls to let you know that they each failed to allow any of us to spend sex time with them. thus, when you visit, and try for one of them, be prepared with some form of strategy or plan, or at least know that she is the girl of my story.
we found other locations for pay-4-play girls, none with girls quite as hot as these 4-5 girls (although all the others were similar in quality to what we found), but again, cali is not a top flight pay-4-play destination (in s.a., compared to ba or brasil, imho).
faraon:
faraon and faraon del norte (located nextdoor to each other)
calle 2 #23-48
about 4 blocks past the torre de cali tower (tallest building in cali).
i don't believe these places are owned or run by the same people. each has it's own door staff, and entry fees: 15k pesos at faraon (on left) and 10k pesos (or was it 5k pesos?) at faraon del norte (door on right).
both had the same prices for girls:
20 minutes for 30k
30 minutes for 40k
60 minutes for 50k
on my only visit to either, saturday 12-jul, i found about twice as many girls (18 vs. 9 approximately) at the del norte building. girls were mostly prettier also.
b.player and i were turned down by the 3-4 girls we asked for bbbj - all said cbj only. so we decided to skip the bjs and just do the deed. my first choice denied photos, but luckily another girl appeared just in time so i traded to her.
girls seemed to imply that we could have gotten a large room and do say an hour and swapped girls for second rounds, brasil style, but we preferred a simple shot and make tracks to the clubs (love the non-pro action in cali!).
oh, 2 soda or limonade (mix, not fresh) are included with your door charge at faraon del norte.
casas/reservados
these are places where you can do incall real cheap. from the street they look like a residential house, nothing more. the large adress plate and/or security dude (in civilian dress) give them away too.
la clinica del doctor amor:
avenida 2n 23n37 (right along the river)
hours: monday through saturday 9:00am to 10:00pm; closed on sundays
prices: 30 minutes for 25k pesos
non-pros bars/discos
since cali is such a great non-pro city (and not the greatest pay-4-play city)... and since cali has to be one of the easiest cities in the world for picky up non-pros...
here's some info on the best bars and clubs to visit, current as of my jun/jul-03 visit. the bar life is divided into the early slot, which starts as early as about 8p, and everthing must close by 2p; and the late slot, which is discos located out of main-cali that are exempt from the 2p close rule. i suppose the salsa clubs of juancito, or whatever that area is called, fall into the late slot, but i didn't experience these.
la casa de las cervesas:
a great outdoor/indoor (balconies) location for both beers (2,000, giraffa not expensive, they have all columbian brands - club, costeņa, lgiths, poker) and drinks (call vodka and tequillas, whiskey likely too, cuervo margarita 8,000). this place is famous enough that all cabbies know it.
mysti-k:
pronounced (mistic-ka), this is the best disco type bar that is open in the early slot. it has a nice open air central area! no cover charge, drinks range from 10k for absolute/quattro, less than 5k for beers, 60k for small bottle of absolute (1/2 fifth?), 15k for red bull equivalent... although the music is loud in most the place, you can find nice spots where it's not (e.g. balcony, outdoor table, etc.). arrive after 10p, leave stay the night if you're not doing a 'disco', or leave about 1p to beat the crowds to the discos. many cabbies do not know this place, as famous as it is (and we couldn't believe they didn't know it!), so note it's 2 blks east of av. sexta on 25th.
forum:
this is a disco/club nextdoor to misti-k. didn't do it, but it's rocking on wednesday night which is ladies night -free drinks all night for ladies! damn, the talent going in there the one wed i was outside (going into mysti-k).
another great 'bar' option for non-pros are the kiosks in the two malls - unicentro and chipechape. the most famous of these (they have all of them in both of the two malls) is "reggae & pop". there is another one, next to a coffe kiosk more or less (in chipechape on the opposite side, next to the center area of the kiddie amusement rides area). they get busy on weekdays beginning at about 4p, and 5p-7p the really start to jam, and go into the evening, say 11p, especially on wed-sat nights. saturday days are good too, say after 2p. beers 2,400 i think, baileys 5k (girls seem to always order this), giraffa 2l 24,000, fresh limonade 1,500.
tienda vieja:
the best program for a sunday is to hit tienda vieja by 6p.
tienda vieja full of non-pro hotties, but you won't find any (well, many) gringos here. most any cabbie will know of it, but if not it's located at "autopista con 44". they play salsa and other local music, and the girls love to dance.
the place is more or less divided into two section as part of the place has a very much indoor feel (hotter, smokier, the albeit high ceiling seems low) and the other half of the place has a very much outdoor feel (high ceiling seems not there, lots of breeze, feels like an outdoor plaza). there are tables everywhere, with two dance floors (one in each area) - but the tables are all taken by 6p.
beers are cheap, an almost fifth of absolute (what's the 4/5s a 5th?) is 60k, i don't believe you can order a cocktail. food is lower quality (think bar food). the place is next door to a rather well known and very good restaraunt called ranchero de jonas.
closes after 11p, although it peaks before 10p. this is a sunday place, although maybe open saturday... not any other days/nights. cover is 3k.
ok, the discos
baioa (or something like that):
this place was packed the one night we went, but it was so loud and all tables so we had no change to even approach girls. thus, a total waste in my book... unless you are bringing a date to dance electronic music (grrrr).
mission:
in yumbo, north of cali, we hit this on consecutive saturday nights. one had a party of visiting djs, and damn, the hottest girls of my trip were there. i met the girl of my dreams that night (non-pro). of course, lots of drug dudes and the entourages of girls... so be careful who you approach. one the next saturday night, with no special event, the place was empty! so, ask around first... 15k cover charge for the night of the event, 10k for the 'normal' night. no cocktails sold, bottle service only (although not expensive). only electronic music.
oxs (or something like that):
nice spot up on the hill. more salsa than electronic music. not the greatest selection of girls the one saturday night we hit it, maybe on others... but great late spot if you have a girl (and she's not coming to your apartment...).
noise:
lots of the girls go to this place. music must vary by night or by time, salsa and/or electronic. we paid no cover on one saturday, but i seem to remember a cover charged on one thursday.
hotel
hostal san fernando:
calle 3, 27-87
phone: +57 (2) 556-4818
prices: from $22 us per night
http://www.calihotel.com/
calihotel@hotmail.com
not really a hostal, but not exactly a hotel.
location is excellent, in the very safe and mellow neighborhood of san fernando. nearby:
dry cleaners (3 or 4 within 0.5-2 blocks)
grocery store (2 blocks, including small pharmacy)
atms (2 are 2 blocks away, 2 others 3 blocks away, and the one at the grocery store is the only atm we found that would give 400k instead of a limit of 300k per transaction)
fruit juice / smoothie spot (3 blocks)
rigoberto (rigo) is the proprietor, and he is super nice, and fluent in english, too (lived in us many years). his internet is slow, so better to hit chipechape, or the great i-cafe in the lobby of the rayda apartments, across from the hotel intercontinental casino.
the staff (girls that do the rooms) are super nice! they will do your laundry for you, although their prices are as much, if not a little more, than the neighborhood cleaners. the phone charges are slightly more than a telecabine: 300/minute for local and 1,600 per minute for cells).
it's a little quirky that you have to have rigo or one of the girls unlock the gate for you with each arrival or departure, but then the place sure is secure.
the airconditioner units are strong! but the fuse blew many times, like almost once per day, during our visit. the typically will fix it immediately, but once rigo was away and it took many hours (tv was thus down also).
water pressure was super!
typical sampling of tv channel options.
you get free access to the club san fernando, a nice high end (for cali) country club with huge pool (fun 5m high dive), restaurant, message, tennis courts, bowling, [CodeWord116] hall, steam/sauna/hotub. this is a great option for day dates!
they require payment in cash! no credit cards. so use your atm to grab a lot of pesos, as their exchange rate sucked - only 2700 (vs. the interbank rate of around 2860). note, the cambia houses/desks and/or banks likely only gave 2700 or less, maybe only 2500... but that doesn't mean 2700 doesn't suck (sorry rigo).
random other stuff
phone/internt charges:
gsm just hit cali in jul-03. i don't know if you can buy a sim card, but you can buy an unlocked phone for about us$60, and i assume pull the card. no plan is required, and you can from there simply buy cards/codes for usage.
at telecabines the standard is 200 per minute for local calls, and range 500-800 per minute for cellular.
you may also find hawkers along av. sexta that carry cell phones, and allow you to call a cell phone on them for 500 per minute.
internet ranges at 2,000 - 4,000 per hour.
wines:
i'm a amateur collector of reds. i searched long and hard to find a quality wine store in cali. i was looking for top end reds of chile and argentina. don't try carrefour, you won't find them there.
your real only choice is la cava in normandia (a convenient location, not far from the hotel intercontinental), at avenida 4-oeste # 1-108, 892-1319. hours in july were 4p-1a.
we were able to purchase lagarde (they had cab '96, crianza '97, syrah ?, malbec ?) from argentina, and i remember montes and montes alpha of chile (with many others of chile).
the staff is helpful, but be sure to ask if they've personally tried the bottle your discussing, and the prices are great.

Surfer, antifreeze expressed an interest in visiting other cities in the south american region.
Hence my offer.
As to my going there, that would make it a tourist trip with tourist type costs involved, costs I am not willing to incur at the moment.
-
Thank you, Leo, for those two excellent posts. I will print them out and use them as a travel guide. You told us everything we need to know, without adding in any extra BS that we don't need to know. A 5-star post.

gracias... just the fact, sir.

Antifreeze -
Please see my post back a little ways on date 7/16. I am a regular member and Jackson just approved to post. It fell back to when I wrote it, not as the newest post to this section.

Antifreeze
Still in Cali, my report will come later, no time to waste now with soo much action around.
Antifreeze, do you know an English speaking real estate agent and possibly a lawyer? I am thinking about renting an apartment for a year, soo any other information on how to make this process easy would be great.
Leo is right. I haven't heard the word "NO" in allmost 3 weeks. Life is great down here. I want to be just like you antifreeze, well at least a part time resident.
-
Leo, Your reporting is spot on! Was there in May, and going back in 2 weeks. The one requirement for doing well with nonpros that you omitted was language ability; VERY few speak even passable Engish (Cali is NOT Copacabana or Recoleta).
I, too, never made it to the salsatecas in Juanchito but hope to this trip. GREAT report.
-
I completely agree about the language requirement - so much so that I ommitted it because it's so obvious. You're not gonna have fun with amateurs in any country if you don't speak the language - in Brasil, B.A., or Columbia.

Dollar Bill:
I mongered in Cali a couple of years ago in the July/Aug months. It rained off an on reminding me of spring showers in the states. It is still warm and somewhat humid during the day and cools off in the evening. You will be fine with a light jacket.
Cali is the opposite of Bogota with regards to dresswear. In Bogota, Colombian dress is more conservative and professional, whereas Cali is laid back and casual. Gringo wear (jeans and sneakers) actually fits in quite well in Cali since you rarely see the colombian dudes wearing shorts. When hitting the clubs, anything is fair game so attention grabing attire is a good thing. A hipp Hugo Boss type shirt will garner looks from the chicas. The Hawaiin shirts were still popular If I remember correctly.
I also seem to remember this being a good time to pick up amateur puss as there wasn't any school during this time of the year. Like others have stated, ChipeChape is the mecca for picking up amateurs. If one know Spanish, one could easily get 2 to 3 numbers in an afternoon. There is also another mall on the other side of town that you might try. I believe it's called Centro.
I'm sure Slick or Antifreeze can elaborate more on these subjects since I was there a few years ago. Good Luck!
Late,
Judd

Cali is not goog for P4P!!! Did I read that well??? Well, what do you guys need??? Because a woman is intelligent enough not to perform BBBJ on you doesn't make the destination unattractive for P4P, as a matter of fact, it's the other way around.
Thank God they don't go that way, consequently increasing odds of spreading things around.
In Cali, you can get a georgious girl as a wife for an half hour that will cost you less than $10... As you go to those places, they do not send a cow sitting on your side to harrass you for money for an half hour. They all line up, and shake your hand while stating their names, and you call the one you want. Slip her a $10, and get to work. She'll open her legs - there's no such thing as a girl that is a prostitute and feel that your hands can't go down. The Hell slip your thung in there if you want. Then, there's no such thing as getting into a room and the girl asking for another $5 to take her bra off. God I don't miss the US!!!
Well, I must respectfully disagree. Cali is the best P4P city that I've seen. It is not Brazil, but it also doesn't have Brazil prices... And Colombian women are unbeatable. They can make excellent girlfriends as well as terrific wives (can't say that about most Brazilian women).
As for how to dress in Colombia, I agree that jeans are OK, but stay away from sneakers. Colombian woman look at a man from bottom to top with the shoes being their first stop. Sneakers is written GRINGO in flashing neon... And it is not appealing to them. You can go downtown and get a good pair of shoes for about $15, and they just like that.
In the US, to have a leasure appearance is appealing since it shows women that you can pay yourself some vacation once in a while. In Colombia, it's the work type appearance that works since it shows women that you can afford to work...
