Social Cleansing in Parque Lleras not La Mayorista !
I live here too. Paisas consider la Mayorista dangerous.
This social cleansing thing is no joke. It has been around for a lot of years and is not going away any time soon.
So who are the people who live in Itagui/La Mayorista, El Centro, Sabaneta, Envigado, non-Paisas? Of course if you live in a very rich or high end area, of any city in the World, you're going to consider a poorer area scary and dangerous ! People fear what they don't know, that's perfectly normal! We all used to be afraid to come to Colombia because of all the stories, and it being a third World Country and all, and we found a "Paradise"! People that don't believe, are loosing out on this Medellin Paradise!
Well, people who don't want to believe about La Mayorista, are also loosing out on another part of the Medellin Paradise on the Cheap-N-Good, and are paying more than necessary! I suspect that some of these guys writing lies about La Mayorista have vested interests, and either own rental properties in El Poblado or own businesses and are trying to protect them from the competition !
If there is any cleansing, it's going on in Parque Lleras and El Poblado! Where did the last robberry at gun point occurred against Americans? Yes you got it, in El Poblado, right accross from the ritzy Oviedo Mall, the Medellin Mansion! Where was all the media focus recently against gringos? Yes, you're right again, Parque LLeras! Where was the location of the last place that shut down their Sunday BB-Qs with "gringos and cuties"! You are right again, Parque Lleras! I know you guys are really smart and can read through all the fear monguering!
I was just at La Mayorista Last night, impressive! Normally I quote 30% as cuties, last night on a rainy Tuesday night at least 50% of the ladies there were hotties, I was in "awe and shock"! As expressed by 4 other "gringos" that where their last night, their only problem was choosing the "cutie" for the night !
When El Centro is closing shop at 1AM, La Mayorista Strip is oppenning places where you don't pay extra for a girls drink, and where you can talk and dance until 4AM! There are 2 of these places now, with the 3rd being a 24/7, open day and night! Police in Motor Cycles all over the place day and night! Not to mention that a few of the Medellin Mansion cuties where hanging out there last night also!
My friend Rob (changed name to protect identity), a small guy, maybe 5'7/155 pnds. , blue eyed, balled, "gringo" looking, a mile away, World Traveller, first time in Medellin & La Mayorista, dissappeared on me for 3 hrs. As a worry, worry, I stayed up waiting for him until 4AM, and when I finally decided to hit the sack, I took a last look down my balcony, and there he was, standing with a girl, whom he later claimed entertained him all night ! She walked him around, purchased his drinks, without stealing any money, (something he monitored very closely, just in case) and she walked him back to the door!
He told me repeatedly that I did not have to worry about him, he likes being with regular folks like in La Mayorista and was thanking me all night for the great time he had, his very first night in Medllin. He arrived last night at 9:30 and hit the ground running! I had so much fun with him and with all the new "hotties" in La Mayorista, that after having spent a year with every "cutie" in La Mayorista, I became excited again about all the new prospects ! And also with the new "drink and dance" places that are now opened, "every day", until 4AM ! And, at normal prices ! Where "cuties" come in and out all night, and where you can sit, drink and party, before........!
I also helped some really nice, but huge, black guys score for the normal $25, 000cop! The girls where asking them $100,000cop! I guess cause they're a little afraid of the "big package" that they may carry! But once I explained to them that they were very gentle guys, no problema, they got the same deal as everybody else, at no charge from me! This is what I do, help men have fun! Even some of my girls have asked me, "what do you get out of all this, helping these guys have fun! " It's just what I do, I enjoy it, and I do most of it for free ! I love women, love sharing my knowledge, love helping "gringos" have fun here in this "Medellin Paradise", specially since I know American women are so screwed up!

Didn´t Medellin Police Clean Escobar´s Clock ?
Little hard to believe, considering the Mafia lives of the "drugs" that the prostitutes and their clients consume. It must be a new "marketting tool" to kill of your clientele! But then what do I know, I just live here!
Heard about the pamphlet in El Centro! Hate to break it to you Paraco Bob, but there is more police presence in El Centro and La Mayorista than anywhere in El poblado! The last time some "goody too shoes" handed pamphlets like that in Cartagena or Barranquilla, can't remember the exact city, the whole lot of them got their ass rolled off to Jail, and they were'nt the "Mafia" trying to kill off their own clients, just a group of "vigilantes" trying to scare of business!
Frank Casio!
It was in Medellin that Uribe and his Military Police first destroyed the Escobar Cartel. He uses the Military as Police in the whole country to fight even the all powerful FARC which used to dominate all the highways, back when nobody could leave the cities without putting themselves in danger! This was less than 8-10 years ago! That's why we are all here now, because the Military Police protects the whole country!
The same Military police that patrols all the highways and byways exiting the cities in Colombia, is the same Military police that patrols the streets in Medellin, keeping them safe! They're all over El Centro and La Mayorista, and they are not corrupt like in Costa Rica and Brazil where Americans are afraid of them! Often they go after the cocaine dealers to arrest them in front of everybody, never consumers, since there is a degree of tolerance towards consumption of Cocaine and Marihuana in small quantities ! They shake down the "traffickers", and unfortunately sometimes they do accept a little bribe here and there, they're not perfect, but they keep them on their toes! Not only don't they harrass the normal citizen, but protect them and are quick to response to any act of violence! Colombia's Military often moves their police force around, specially when they suspect that they're getting to "cozy" with the local drug dealers! They just re-shuffle them so they lose all of their connections, very smart!
Colombian police are taught to "serve and protect", from the Chief In Command, President Uribe, who, by the way, Colombians want to re-elect to a 3rd term, but unlike Chavez, Uribe, believes and respects "democracy"! The Military Police here is praised and encouraged to "Protect and Serve", and they take pride in doing this! They're hawks at protecting the subway system, I've been turn away at least once and questioned another time for looking a little "too tipsy"! They just told me to hop on a bus or a taxi where less restrictions apply! They were nice enough to direct me to the bus stop for Envigado from El Centro! This was at 4AM in the morning when the subway re-opens! I was being a "typical Paisa" and was trying to safe on the "Taxi Fare"!
This "Pride" to "Protect and Serve" comes straight from "The Top", from the man who destroyed the Cartels and saved and restored Colombia, Presidente Uribe! With a little help from good old USA (4 billion US$ given to President Uribe by the last administration to fight "terrorrism", and protect our "american's asses" down here), for which I'm thankfull for!
On a lighter note, my first house in El Trianon, Envigado was very closed to a house owned by Escobar's Mom! Escobar is now burried in Itagui, near La Mayorista and The International Club (Sriptease Bar)! When Escobar's entire Cartel was destroyed, many of the little shops in Envigado which where used to launder money for Escobar, found themselves with a business and cash that nobody ever claimed!
The cartel was wiped off the face of the Earth, and apparently the police didn't have enough records to know which businesses where legite, hence, a few locals, quite a few, found themselves set up for life! So in Envigado, a very quiet community, no prostitution, Zona Rosa "La Bota Del Dia", like Parque Lleras, you will never Know which shop owner once laundered for Escobar ! Many people did that "back in the days" (a little Lancaster,PA slang) !
