BTW, a question for the non-Brazilians working in Rio. How do you as a non-residential open an account in a Brazilian Bank?
GK
Hi GK,
You need a tax-number to open a bank-account. To get a tax-number you must have some kind of proof of residency. Without this. No tax-number. With no tax-number no bank-account.

I had a tax number and no residency and could not open an account because I did not have the proper visa. I had a tourist visa. Banco do Brasil recommended that I go to the branches in Miami or New York if I wanted to bank with them. For people with a residency visa or work visa it should not be a problem.
You need a permanent visa (visto de permanência) and a Registro Nacional de Estrangeiros (RNE)
This is correct. And it is fucking hard to get. And even when you get it, the banks will fuck it up. Me and my partner applied with the same permanent visas and same RNEs (which, by the way, are issued on a temporary basis at first for up to 180+ days). The bank, HSBC, approved his account and denied mine. Because different muppets looked at our applications. I had to point this out to them and they finally agreed. Note HSBC was the 4th bank we tried. Banco do Brasil refused to do anything, Itau punted, and Santander hemmed and hawed. Despite banking our company. Finally HSBC came through and then. 2 weeks later, Santander. It took me nearly 2 months after getting my permanent visa and my (temporary) RNE.
So enjoy the path!

CP
Wrong. CPFs are relatively easy to get even if it takes time and BS process. As Pocolocou says you need a permanent visa and an RNE for a bank account.

But why would one want to have a Brazilian bank account, when those of us who know Brazil know that their method of doing business is less to be desired. Lastly, when I asked Brazilians about opening a Brazilian account they laughed and said that Brazilian banks are less than 5th rate to gringo banks.

Additionally the limit pr day at the ATMs are too low.
If I could wire money from home to my brazilian account before I leave home, I could withdraw cash from the cashiers counter instead and avoid the ATM limit.

gk
a brazilian account is a major pain in the ass with high fees etc. if you wire money from your home account the central bank takes about 5% fee off the fx rate. everything just costs money when dealing with the inefficient brazilian economy.
the best way to use a large amount of cash each day is to bring your limit in in cash, which is r$10, 000. then bring as many atm cards as you require. my citibank card allows 2 x r$1000 withdrawals per day at the citibank atm's. my hsbc card also allows this but strangely only at the citibank atm, hence i can get r$4000 per day. if i required more than that i would just get another card. most people will need to call their bank to up their limit that they can withdraw per day ie, standard amount with citibank was r$1000, after i called them they upped the limit to r$2000, but it must be in 2 separate tranrep001ions.
Hi I am a photographer working for US porn and erotic magazines. Arrived in Rio a few days ago (comming weeks I will be in Sampa) and would need help casting girls in termas for photoshootings, as my Portugues is practically non-existent. I Once have been helped by a Brasilian guy for this couple of years ago, but he is not available right now. Also maybe people here have tips were I can find more english speaking girls. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the tip Bubba Boy.
I think there is no real limit to the amount of cash you can bring to Brazil as long as you declare it on entry to the country.
This is at least the information I found on the official customs pages on the internet.
Have I misunderstood something?

GK
Yes that is correct, you can bring in any amount as long as you declare it. I have always felt uneasy doing this at the airport. Federal Policy are very corrupt and any declarable amount would be worth it for them to organise a nice quick robbery on the trip into Copacabana. Hence I wouldn't do it.

GK
You can carry any amount as long as you declare excess of R$ 10, 000 on your baggage declaration form. As you go through customs they usually take you to a private room to examine and count your holdings (checks, currency, travellers checks) They will question you about the purpose of bringing the money to Brasil. After this procedure, it is a good idea to take a radio-dispatched taxi to your destination, (e. G. Cootramo) and watch your backside.
Wire transfers cost $60 from US to Brasi at HSBC regardless of the amount being transferred. HSBC uses the daily Tourismo cambio rate at the time you make your withdrawal.

You might also inquire at HSBC in your home country about opening a Premier Account which would allow higher cash withdrawls in foreign countries without a foreign bank account.
Note* Excuse me as I had posted this in the Sao Paulo thread by mistake.
Rio Trip Day 1 and 2
I was just in Rio. The exchange rate is as follows: 1 USD = 1. 65 R at the Termas; 1. 6 at the cab stand at the airport; and 1. 55 at the exchange booths plus a fee at the Airport. My cc gave me a slightly better rate but I had to pay a 12USD fee. Probably the best option is to exchange your money at the termas.
I had grand plans when I arrived. The first night I decided I was going to visit Monte Carlo because I had been reading some good reports on ISG. The deal at MC is there is 70R entry fee. 70 R cabine rental fee and 150R for 40 minutes with a girl. Prior to my visit the locals on the beach and a cabbie were talking about how bad the talent is at MC and that Centaurus was so much better etc. I made my mind up I was going there any way. Later that night I entered MC in nervous about what I would find. I was hoping the cabbie the cabana boys were wrong about the talent. In short, they were wrong. The place was hopping with plenty of fuckable garotas.
Monte Carlo.
During my scouting trip that morning I almost missed the place. I was walking up and down the street. There is no sign that says Monte Carlo. There is just a door with a 19 over it? Nothing like advertising eh. I saw a girl open the door and I said "Monte Carlo?" She said "Yes but come back at 3PM" she was the manager and very nice. Note* Enclosed is the address: Rua HiláRio de Gouvêa. 19 Copacabana. Rio de Janeiro Tel: 2255-4489.
I returned at 6PM. I enter the Termas and see several beautiful garotas. I know what I like (spinners). Right before me was a menina loura bonita. My radar locked onto her and I went over to say Hello, after only 3 minutes in the bar. We hit it off and we spent a good hour DFK and fondling each other in the corner of the bar. On my third beer she suggests the cabine. I raced her up the stairs. She took my key and left me standing there while she went to shower, charge my account for the cabine and her, and change into some lingerie. 10 minutes later my little blond Brazillian equivalent of a spinner, comes back in some sexy lace outfit and leads me to the cabine. We simply had great sex for 40 minutes. I was on my second SOG when the buzzer went off. She gave me a few minutes extra but the 2nd SOG wasn't meant to be (no buzzer beater for me). BBBJ, DFK, MPOS. 69. Everything I wanted was on her menu. We went back down stairs and she sat with me and we made out for another 30 minutes. I told her I was going to drink a few more beers and then have a massage. I planned to shower and go back to the hotel. She spoke mostly through a series of interpreters. She said she would meet me at my hotel after she got off at midnight. I said "cool" and I let her get back to work. I had my massage but I didn't want to leave. The talent was too strong at MC I wanted to sit around and listen to the music and drink beer and watch the girls dance. Then a curious thing happened. Several of the hookers made passes at me and were hanging on me. My blond spinner walked over and claimed me. She announced to the girls "I'm keeping him for myself" which was about the extent of her English. We sat together the rest of the night and we made out.
At 11:30 she asked me to go to my hotel and wait for her there. She explained that her bosses do not let her date customers so we cannot can not meet out front. So I waited for her to arrive by cab at the hotel entrance. She shows up at midnight. I pay her cab fare of 10R. We split a small pizza and have a drink and then I try to sneak her into my upscale hotel. I walk in with her laughing like I own the place and walk right by the management. They stop us and make her register. I found out later here was no extra charge by the hotel for a guest. For 300+USD a night there better not be!
Anyway I took this girl up to the room and we fucked for hours. H-O-U-R-S. She fucked me to death! We spent hours communicating through bablefish prior to sleeping. At 7AM we both up. She explained the night before that she has her bambinos today. She is taking them to the beach today. I walked her to the cab stand. We exchanged numbers and email in the room. I tell her I will see her Monday at the Termas. We both say I love you and she hops in the cab. All she asked for was cab fare and I gave her 70Rs. So for the entire night she was 80R + a small pizza margarita.
Now the bad news. She fucked my sun burnt body to death! I could not fuck the next day. I pathetically "limp-dicked" it over to Balconi and had to sit there and pass up some of the best talent in Rio. Most of the girls at the Balconi did look like they belonged in the bar from Star Wars but every 20 minutes some hot SPs would show up. A beautiful Amazonian brunet that looked like a movie star and then an hour after that there was a young SP named Nichelle. She was a beautiful 18 year old mulato that looked like she was not a minute over 18. She was wearing the sexiest red painted on Tarzan style mini with heels smoking her cigarette like a sex queen. (Man why has someone not scouped this girl up yet? I was thinking) How sexy! I talked to her and she wanted 350R but was down to 250R before I decided my broke-dick self was too sore to fuck her from the work out from the previous night. Also, how can I get a girl dressed like this past security at my respectable hotel? She looked like she was barley 18. In my hotel there are families waiting for cabs to take them out to dinner etc. They are good decent folk and not mongers like us. I decide have to take the night off.
I had a few more beers with fellow mongers, until the rain cleared and it was off to the hotel. I left the next day. Man do I love Rio!
Can you fall in love with your Rio SP?
